GPS not working - Touch HD General

After reading numerous posts, trying endless number of ROMs and radios, I must ask for help regarding my GPS.
Everything started with finding a simple WM6.5 ROM having a locking software that would prevent accidental dialing, turning of the mic with my face and would have a nice unlocking screen. From my point of view, thats a big problem for the ROM chefs.
Anyway, after trying PocktShield (problems with dialing from contacts if you choose the default dialer- why don't they solve it?) and S2U2 (showing wrong time on lock screen after wake -up) in combination with probably all availible ROMs I could find on XDA, while flashing the last time the touch screen on my HD stopped working. Went to the service, the guy said: 200 - 300€! Yeah, right! But, after few more days, it came back to life and seemed to be working fine - except the GPS.
So, I'm clueless and need help. My data:
OS 5.2.23568
ROM: BC_Cloudy_1.8 WWE
Manila: 2.5.20121225.2
And, yes, I use QuickGPS, and My Location and Google Maps, and VisualGPS and HTC GPS Tools and Garmin XT and I was waiting for hours under the blue sky... It seems like the GPS works, but there is no signal...
So, any ideas?
Radio: 1.14.25.24

I've the same problem after sending my HD for some repairs regarding to the display. I've already checked the gps with the official rom too but there was still no amendment. I guess I've to send it in again -.- maybe they cut an access to the receiver. anyway, it bothers me...

Does anybody know where the receiver is placed? Prehaps I could replace it...

Is your Bluetooth or FM-Radio unit broken?

Ok, the longer the Test-Radio ROM 1.58.25.14 is around, the more people seem to suffer Bluetooth and/or FM-Radio hardware failures.
I know it's very unlikely to be connected, but what if it might is? What if, for example, the test Radio diverts too much power to the respective units and thus actively destroys them over time?
I don't even know if this is possible, I have no idea at all what a buggy Radio ROM could cause. But I want to know if there is a certain correlation and that's why I set up this poll to see how many people are affected. I try to find out if it might be a coincidence and all the defects are actually caused by weak hardware used by HTC. However, please vote in the respective category. Condition: please do not vote, if you don't use or only rarely use Bluetooth or FM-Radio, I only want votes of people which actively use Bluetooth or the FM-Radio every day and thus are seriously affected (or not).
If your unit breaks down after you voted, post a message in this thread, explaining how the situation changed for you.
Thanks
Maybe I don't answer your question as you request it but I can say following:
1. 1.58.25.14 is radio ROM this is true but it is radio rom for GSM only (as well I can understand).
2. I use bluetooth on my Polaris nearly all the time (4-12 hours a day) with headset and laptop.
3. I do not use FM receiver so can't tell anything.
my polaris stopped working after i´ve upgraded the radio rom to the 1.58.25.14 then i come back to the 1.58.25.14 but the message BT hardware problem apears....

Some details
I've got both units broken.
The FM-Radio had a weird behavior before getting broken:
Sometimes, when I started the FM-Radio application, it didn't tune in a single station. I was able to solve this apparent hang tapping "Scan _Save" in the context menu on the right. When it fineshed scanning, the radio appeared to be re-started and everything was smooth. It worked a few times, and I thought it was only a bug of the application itself related only to software.
As I said, it suddenly stopped working, and my workaround was also useless. At the same time, I noticed the bluetooth unit didn't respond as well. The device "tries" to activate the BT for a few seconds, and finally it remains off. Today, I observed a very strange thing: the blue LED that blinks when BT is on, was blinking like if the BT unit was turned on, but... it was not activated!
Since this afternoon, I didn't see the blue LED blinking again. Of course, the BT wasn't actually working, only the LED.
I have contacted the technical support to repair it...
*bump*
I'm on bepes .66 now with standard shipped Radio and Bluetooth is still working fine. I do have the switch-on glitch though: out of no reason Bluetooth obviously gets turned on as the the blue LED blinks for like half a minute during the boot phase. After the boot its turned off though and all is fine.
What do you mean with hardware failures? Not working, error messages, bad receiption...?
So far I didn't encounter any problems (bluetooth + radio with stock rom). I didn't vote cause I don't use it regulary. Only thing I can say is that radio receiption isn't as good as that of the Siemens SX1. I noticed it when I travelled by train. With the Polaris I couldn't listen to radio anymore.
Keep in mind that this poll's results will be skewed b/c ppl that don't have an issue with either Bluetooth or FM Radio are unlikely to even open this thread.
I have the same problem with bluetooth and radiofm.
I have original rom, radiofm stopped to find station and BT stopped to work.
when I click on bluetooth in the commManager appears the loading wheel and after few seconds go back to the off position!
I tried to hardreset, but is the same

This is just the same that happens with my device!! I'm waiting for the repairing service to return it to me for the second time. They give you a report with the description of the problem they might find. I will tell you which problem they say...
I bet it is a hardware problem :S
Well more and more people seem to suffer FM-Radio and Bluetooth breakdowns. I gave up believing its any Radio ROM, it seems to be poor quality components. Qualcomm, what did you guys do...?! Psh...
Definetly seems to be crappy hardware. Check my thread about upgrading radio roms:
Reception Difficulties
I agree, there isn't a definable trend so it does point to a hardware issue. I haven't had any reception or bluetooth issues but now my camera doesn't work properly... plus add that to the poor build quality of this unit (rattling keys, sticky sounding screen, loose scroll pad, poor SD card cover and a double clicking d-pad), it's not what you'd expect from a 500€ device.

do you think it's a good idea flash the rom? maybe there is a problem in the rom after some installation (gprs monitor? netframe?).
I would try but I don't want to come back again to the original rom for the repairing service.
some notes:
1) after the second hardreset for a while the bluetooth was working, then I restart the device and the BT was off!
2) with an hard reset not everithing is deleted, some information still in the memory (gprs monitor data, bluetooth device associated...)

Hi everybody !
My Radio FM doesn't provide any sound anymore
I had a SFR's polaris and I flashed it with all the recents ROM : bepe, radio, etc...
MP3 are working great, radio found some stations, head-phones are plugged, but I can't hear something.
What's wrong ?
Do I re-flashed with any ROM ?
The Polaris-Radio is crap, it's of a very bad quality. Is it just the sound volume then? There is a thread somewhere which is supposed to contain a fix for volume/sound issues on french ROMs...
I posed the patch for volume of MP3.
My Radio FM haven't a bad sound, but no sound.
It's very hard, because I don't know what to do : reflashing from the start (bepe, ...) or try to find a radio fm cab, to try to re-install it
An idea is to flash another language version. For example, just for curiosity, flash udK's WM6.1 ROM in English (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386862) and test the fm radio... it could be that the volume limitation got baked in in all french ROM editions...
If it doesnt work on that ROM either, I dont know what to do and at that point I suppose sending it in for repair wouldnt be the worst thing to do...
I wonder how many returns they´ve had with this device??? It´s a real shame cause when everything works well it´s the best thing out there

X1 - GPS does not work anymore

Hi all,
since today all of my gps-programs (smartrunner, terracrosser, on the road panel) i´m normally using (at last yesterday) do not find a gps-siganl anymore.
I´ve tried htc gps-tool, but it is saying "failed to send NMEA command"
In settings the internal gps is set to com4, harware (external) no com, managed by windows.
Any ideas, or is there a program to check if the gps-chip is generally ok?
Thanks and all the best.
Coincidentally, about 5 days ago I found that my GPS on my R1A ROM stopped functioning after exactly 2 minutes. Tomtom and all other GPS apps would get a fix normally, then crash the phone after 2 mins (Tomtom goes gray) and a soft-reset is needed to get the phone going again. I tried reinstalling most of the apps, but nothing seemed to help.
In the end, I took the gutsy way out, flashed my X1 to R3A (even though there's rumours that it's not the 'official' release), and everything has been good ever since.
I know it's not really a 'solution', but I sure as hell couldn't find the fix. I've had my Xperia since the November release with R1A, and it just did this to me about a week ago.
Anyways, happy with R3A having skipped R2A. Not HUGE benefits to upgrading, but definitely some positives.
Hi Scar,
flashing to R3A means that all programs and data will be deleted?
Isn´t there a way to reinstall the gps-driver, like at "big windows"?
How did you flashed? With SE Update Service?
I am a X1 User for about 7 weeks, so i do not had such issues until now and flashing would be my first time.
Any other ideas around?
Thanks and all the best
Hi mrx_bln,
Flashing to R3A will mean that your device data will be lost. If you use ActiveSync, then all of your Contacts/Appts/Tasks/etc. will get re-synced when you re-create the partnership after flashing. You also might want to search the forums for "PIM Backup" which will allow you to set a "Custom" backup to grab your files, as well as its ability to save Call Logs + SMS.
I flashed my ROM by using the microSD method, which is to place the (official) ROM in the root of the Storage Card, and have it named "kovsimg.nbh". You'll find more info from Jack Leung in the ROMs section of the Xperia X1 forum here.
As far as I know, there is no way to reinstall the GPS driver. If you have never got a signal though, and your symptoms aren't like mine were (I got a fix for 2 mins then it always froze after that), then you might want to leave it outside for 10 minutes to ensure that the GPS isn't working. Also, run QuickGPS to make sure you've got the latest data file.
Hopefully you can figure it out, as flashing is a bit of a pain to have to reinstall and reconfigure everything. The silver lining to that dark cloud is that you can ensure that the device is running mint.
Let us all know how you make out!
If your GPS crashes satnav apps after a couple of minutes, try deleting your 'extra.bin' file.
This is the QuickGPS download file which is likely to be the culprit, and you can always download another which is likely to be okay.
Hi all,
thanks again for your suggestions.
I´ve run "configuration - system - delete memory" (in german: Einstellungen - System - Speicher löschen) from the phone, which is a "hardreset", i guess.
And look, after that my GPS is working again.
The HTC-GPS-Tool is working and my favourite apps (Smartrunner, Terracrosser) have GPS-Signal.
So, my result is that is was definitely a sw-problem and i am wondering that there is no fix for this, because regarding to some threads it looks like that happens quite often. I mean, even the developers of htc gps tool should have the knowledge to write a fix, don´t they?
May here is a wm crack who has a look at what a hardreset is doing with the gps and writes a little tool to fix this manually?
Many other users would appreciate a lot, i guess.
Let´s have a look when the problem comes up again
Even the quickgps tool came up with an error (something like "can´t connect - try later"). Then i will try to delete the "extra.bin"
All the best
My GPS hasn't been working for about 2 weeks now. Not about to hard-reset, but would love to find a simpler solution.
Try this solution. That worked for me and many others It is way simpler than a hardreset

I have exactly the same problem after every ROM flash.
And always manage to fix it in 4 steps:
1. Erase GPS data using the HTC tool, wait 30 secs, all satellites should vanish
2. Cold start the GPS, wait 30 secs
3. Power down the phone, power back up
4. Start the HTC GPS tool again and wait approximately 2 minutes for the gps to fix. If you screwed up steps 1-3 then after starting the tool you will get a pattern of satellites. The screen must be clear and it should start looking for satellite 02 (searching for almanac)
Never had to cold start the phone- I suppose it does exactly the same as my four steps.
I was working with various GPS units before and the Diamond one is definitively the most fiddly of them all.
I suppose there is a bug in the COM4 GPS communication protocol, I have noticed that the stream of data often cannot be stopped by closing the connection with the GPS inside the tool.

GPS Problems on a new G1

I'm on my third G1. The first one died to some strange graphics issue where the screen would go completely pixilated and wacky on me. I think the graphics processor was overheating. On the second one the touch screen died about the same time the speaker in started buzzing during calls.
Luckly because TMobile extends your warranty 90 days every time you get a new phone, I've only had to pay for shipping. I got the latest one, and immediately installed Cyanogen 4.2.5 on it. No problems. Then I followed Michael Mayhew's instructions for the maps update to get Navigation.
I can't get the GPS to work at all. I've since tried going back to RC29, or the base Cyanogen 4.2.5 without the maps hack. I've tried other GPS applications such as the Chartcross GPSTest. I can't get a read at all on any of them. I don't know if it was working before the updates, because I never tried to use maps before I installed the mod.
So I'm wondering somehow a radio update was applied that broke this phone, or if there is anything I can do to change the gps drivers around. Anyone with similar GPS failure issues?
I don't really want to return this one as I've only had it one day!
Yes, similar issues. No solution thus far. I also did not test GPS before flashing. OOPS?!? And now it no longer works, but I can't tell if that was the case to begin with.
I followed the same procedure (CM 4.2.5, Navigation mod), and had the same result--broken GPS. "My Location" not working, "Searching for GPS" forever, etc.
So two possibilities I can see:
1) hardware problem w/GPS
2) one or a combination of CM 4.2.5 + Nav = broken GPS
I have seen a few people on these boards say their GPS doesn't work all of a sudden. In fact, there are stock Droid owners with issues.
Can anybody chime in?
Hmmm
So for about 10 minutes on Friday it started working again. Totally random, I have no idea why. I was at a party and decided to see if it was working. All of a sudden I had signal (using GPSTest) and google maps found my location.
I've since tried it several times, rebooting, and doing a bunch of other stuff. I can't get it working again. Total fluke! So frustrating!
Well now the new version of google maps is in the market. I've successfully installed that one but still no GPS.
Im having the same issue on my G1 right now. Sorry for the Zombie thread, but did this ever get resolved?
I've had the gps fail on my phone and others I know have also. The g1 seems to have issues with the gps antenna strip breaking internally so one minute you'll have reception, the next.. nothing. Only solution is to find a new antenna strip and replace it (good luck!)
Aside from possible hardware failures, the GPS units on these phones tend to be very weak. Sometimes it *IS* impossible to get a strong enough signal to lock on, even when out in the open if there is something nearby that can reflect the GPS signals.
However note that these are AGPS devices, which means that with a cell connection and a data connection, and given that google knows the coordinates of the cell tower you are connected to, it is able to load assistance data (almanac + accurate time synchronization via NTP), and this will *GREATLY* improve your chances of getting a good lock and greatly reduce the time it takes.

I doubt that it was the GPU overheating. Your phone would burn your hand if it got that hot.
The in-call buzzing could be corrected by shifting the screen a little bit while it is happening. It is related to GSM interference with the speaker. The speaker is literally playing the radio waves emitted by the phone. The touchscreen issue was probably a broken cable... also related to moving the screen.

What radio version are you running?
I've also had no luck getting a GPS signal ever since I installed hacked navigation... I wonder if that's the problem? Has anyone tried removing the hacked navigation, to see if that solves the problem?
BTW, the problem started on CM 4.1 with EBI0 radio (2.22.19.26I), and still persists with CM 5.0.7... Has anyone tried upgrading their radio to 2.22.23.02? How about the folks that have gone back to the Updated Rogers EBI1 Radio (3.22.26.17)?
I have been having the "searching for gps" problem as long as I can remember (although I just got this phone a month or two ago)....I remember trying to install the hacked navigation or something so maybe that messed it up?...this phone was never opened, and I would hate to have to open it up to see if it is a hardware issue because I may not put it back as it was. IDK what to do, I even started a thread about it and tried every solution I could find and nothing worked for me....
I wish someone could chime in here with some insight...but it is also nice to hear others with this issue and their advice/ideas also...
Has anyone tried un-rooting and returning the phone back to complete stock and wiping everything ? has that worked for anyone?

Strange bug (freeze when call + restart) :( Please help...

Hello Guys,
I am posting here because I have this strange bug for a couple of weeks now.
I'm hoping someone had the same bug and could identify where it comes from. Or which app may cause this?
* Sometimes, when I want to make a phone call, my HD2 freezes.
* It apparently makes the phone call, but the screen is blocked, I can do nothing, and I cannot hear the callee. I cannot end the phone call.
* The callee can hear me.
* After 10 seconds my HD2 shuts down by itself and restarts automatically.
* Everytime it restarts this way, the Time is changed and is wrong.
It happened to me around 10 times already.
If any one of you had the same bug and could help this would be greatly appreciated.
Could any third app cause this. Actually it happens even if no application is running!
Thanks in advance.
My ROM is Miri WM 6.5.x v17.
Significant third party applications or Tweaks are :
Co0kie's Home Tab 1.8.5 and CHT Editor,
Ameba + Ameba Launcher + Ameba Settings
Kinoma Play, CorePlayer, Ruttensoft Cloudfiles,
AE Button Plus, SK Tools
Batti, Skyfire, CSMI,G-Alarm, SPB Time
Some Touch-X tweaks (power management, Wifi N, speed up scrolling, Opera max memory, smoothness, 6 tabs, etc...)
The problem is recent and the only apps I added recently are Ruttensoft and G-Alarm.
friendly bump
I've got the same problem on mine with Dutty's HG v.2.9 & 3.0. I've only noticed it on Bluetooth with a Motorola H17 headset... I've recently updated to HG 3.1 and will not use that particular Bluetooth anymore... Hopefully that fixes it
I have the same problem. This phone (hardware) is the best phone on the market but you know what. Windows Mobile frickin blows. I get so upset cause my phone always freezes and I have to turn it off and on, or even take the battery out.
I honestly may ditch this hunk of junk and get a my touch slide, that is how unhappy i am with this operating system. How anyone could like windows mobile is beyond me.
If it's any help I'm on Dutty's 3.1 HG, with Cookie's HT and Editor, with Microsoft Voice Command installed, Coreplayer, Omarket, Def's Taskbar, Chris middle lock screen slider, Total Commander and PHM installed... (with other things that escape me now)
I'm currently on a call on BLUETOOTH with the BlueAnt S4 right now and going on 16minutes and received 5 emails and checked the weather and played around on my home screen and it has not frozen at all... I honestly believe it may be the Motorola Bluetooth that is messing it up.
The only other thing it can be is my car stereo's USB connection for music might be corrupting it as well... we'll see about that
(17 minutes now!!! *CROSSES FINGERS**)

Thanks All for your answers and feedback.
I am not using Bluetooth. So I guess this is not the cause.
Apparently it is not ROM related (Miri roms are knows to be very stable and the problem also appears on Dutty's Roms)
So I have the feeling that it may be caused by a 3rd party application.
Ameba ? Co0kie's Home Tab ? I don't know...
I keep my fingers crossed. Maybe someone has the solution
There's a thread on the boards now about phone freezing/hard resetting and they reference Task29.exe...
I've not know about this and just performed it and put back on Dutty's Rom and we'll see...
S... It happened to me again this morning.
Don't know what to do. Could this Task29.exe. procedure really solve my problem? Gonna try.
Hi, in the past i've this problem :
when an incoming call, the phone freezes and suddenly forced to make a soft reset.
have you installed HD2 tweak?
For my part, this problem due the option of the phone's response time before an incoming call, it should not modify.
i 've done a hard reset because impossible to call or receive a call, even having given the option as original.
Perhaps, that would resolve you're matter
hi... same problem as here..
my phone restart once in coreplayer, next time in igo, next time in settings tab... i dont know what is it..
i flash back the stock rom ... but dont help...
i belive its not device bug or bad sector in phone...
maybe its can do same appl. waht we installed..
i think its can be chainafaier driver or leocpuspeed...
but its only id...
thanks for the feedback and tips.
actually i am not using BSB tweaks, Leo CPU speed or Chainfire driver.
so the problem probably comes from another application.
Are you using Microsoft Voice Command?
I'm racking my brain as to why mine can't make a call..
I've installed the STOCK ROM 1.66 and it's stable as all get out, but I've installed nothing else... and my phone just got done with a hour and fifteen minute conference call no problem
no, I didn't....
if only i could discover what creates the problem
freezing
Dont know if you have the same issue, i got mine sorted (shutting down fm radio properly and not just pulling the head set out) after reading this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618621&page=2
Guys are you sure you have the right radio flashed?
I've had this problem too, and a new radio/reflash of the radio fixed it.
I flashed back to the stock telstra rom/radio and couldn't get past a call in 5 minutes
I flashed another Radio.
And so far the problem did not occur again.
May work . Thanks lonelykatana.
Unfortunately, the problem is still here.
I make a phone call and my phone freezes
Cannot believe I'm the only one
arturobandini, you are not the only one. I just got my HD2 4 days ago. I have gotten like 10 freezes already during calls. The phone wont let me unlock. This phone and with windows mobile must be the worst phone on the market. I cam from iPhone that thing has never failed me for 2 years. I HATE WM6.5 but i am stuck on T-Mobile for 2 years sigh...

GPS weak/no fix with Android (no prob at WM)

Hi there,
Has anybody experienced this GPS problem? Since a few days, Without changing anything I got no properly working GPS anymore. That concerns only Android. Everything is ok with gps under WM6.5. So, with Android it takes 10 minutes or more to get sat fix if at all. Then, if I change from gps app to any other app, sat fix will get lost instantly and never return. Even with navigating in car under open sky it is not possible anymore. Under WM6.5 no problem occurs, same location!. Apps under Android which I tried: GPS Tracker, Android Navigation, GPS Status. All the same.
So, I've no clue. Any ideas from you?
Thank you,
Peter
which build are you using?
It´s independent of build. But to answer your question: MCCM SE V3.4 FroyoStone Sense.
Update:
I switched to another build, did not apply my backup as I first wanted to test the GPS. It´s all the same with the new untouched android build!!! (Build now is MDJ_FroYo_HD_v._4.6_MDJ_S78.0).
I used GPSTracker app as I always do. But since this failure, I only get a gps sat-fix as long as I view the "Status" page. If I switch to "Map" I lose sat-fix instantly. It comes back only back on "Status" page - if at all.
Very weird!
Updated Radio Rom from 2.08.50 to 2.15.50 and did a hard reset on WM. IT HAD NO EFFECT. What on earth could do such harm to gps only under Android??? For me its all useless without navigation. If only there was a second person who knew this or I could find out what the reason is. For me it´s nearly bricked!
gonna sell this hd2 for 220 bucks and buy a desire hd.
^^Did you try doing QuickGPS download in WM first and then trying GPS in Android...it really helps..
