Two Different Back Covers (Am I only one to notice?) - EVO 4G General

There are two different backs...I have seen two of each so far.
One has a much smoother, slightly metallic back that matches the backside of the rim perfectly.
The other is more matte without the slight metallic look, with a slight (almost rubbery) texture.
I've seen two of each and even my friend said the backs were different after taking a look once I said something.
The backside of the rim had a slight metallic look matching the one backing perfectly, the rim on all phones looked like this.

The backs are, I believe, relating to the different hardware numbers. If you poke around here, you'll see that our phones also have two different screens (Novatec and Epson) too.

No your not the only one to notice, this has been discussed in length in another thread

Capdase + Seidio = $$ = Ultimate Case??

Like the look & feel of a "simple" black leather case, but do NOT like the idea of covering the keyboard with a sheath of plastic (poor feel & seems bound to age poorly) - and so ended up with a Capdase BiFold Leather Case for my Fuze.
Posted pictures & problems with this case earlier, including some Surgery we performed to alleviate Case/Screen interaction. But while the surgery did Help, it did NOT eliminate the problem.
ALSO got concerned about reports of the top LAMINATE lifting off from the lower (button) area of TouchPros. As my screen protector has fallen prey to a similar lifting, having the laminate come up seems at least Possible.
Decided that what was needed was a cover for the TOP of the Fuze - one that would add as little bulk as possible, while both protecting the edges of the unit and providing a bit of separation between the screen and the top flap of the Capdase case (which would sometimes (RE)DIAL the phone at the end of a call! Nice trick if you could control it... )
Ended up buying a Seidio Innocase, which others have reviewed: it does indeed "fit like a glove" - wonderful precision, a nice feel, & leaves plenty of room around the actual Touch portion of the screen. (Carried the Fuze for several days in just the Seidio, but did not like the Exposed Screen.)
The combo of the Capdase BiFold Leather + the TOP HALF of the Innnocase seems to work perfectly: the edges are protected, the screen is protected, the Capdase fits nice & tight against the Seidio (which also provides a bit more protection for the top corners of the Fuze), and there has been no more Accidental Dialing (or Disconnects!).
Combination is obviously Not Cheap (think total came to around $55, incl Shipping Costs), but it IS flexible: can always remove Fuze from the Capdase & snap the Innocase back cover on if a SLIM profile is required.
The Combination fits nicely into an inner jacket / coat pocket (where a tri-fold wallet might fit), and also does well in the top pocket of an Over Shirt (Safari, jean, or wool - as long as pocket has a Closure of some kind!)
A few pictures are attached (hopefully...)
Can never pay too much for protection on our phones. Looking good!
might as well put the phone back in the box it came with and seal it tight so it'll never be scratched. jk

Indeed, the "naked" approach has some arguments in its favor - particularly if ALL you are carrying is just "a phone."
A Phone is relatively inexpensive & readily replaceable: My Razr never saw the inside of a case - but it certainly looked Well Used by the time it was replaced with the Fuze. (At only 16 months or so of usage.)
My Axim (PDA) has never been WITHOUT a case: it has served for over three times as long as the Razr did (and is now approaching 5 years in service), and only in past 6-months or so has it exhibited any outward signs of wear ("chrome" plating on D-pad & "DELL" logo are wearing off). OTOH, have been through numerous screen protectors, and the Daily Carry case (a RhinoSkin) looks like it has been through a war zone: in essence, the screen protectors and the case have 'sacrificed' themselves for the safety of the Axim - and the invaluable data stored within.
My Fuze is PDA FIRST, and Phone second. Like the Axim, I hope to keep the Fuze running for at least 4 years (hopefully longer!), and do not look upon it as Readily Disposable - like A Phone would be. Therefore a good case seems a very worthwhile investment, albeit one that is made more difficult by a) the dual purpose nature of the Fuze (it may be Phone Second, but it DOES still function as a phone), and b) the Sliding Keyboard.
For those who view the Fuze as simply a Fancy Phone - AND have the wherewithal to replace it every couple of years - a case is undoubtedly either a Nuisance or merely a Fashion Statement.
But for others, choosing a good case seems to be a reasonably important decision - otherwise there would not be nearly as many posts on the subject as there are...
well to each their own I guess, I generally change phones every 12 months or so. I guess I cant justify using a case to cover the phone
Kursell Case
This case is ok I own but I like my Kursell orbit Flex Case a lot better the flip leather lid Comes off thats so great plus I love the tight plastic over the keyboard the best case I ever seen

There are several nice looking cases available - the Kursell is one & Pdair makes a couple, although recall looking at others as well - that utilize the Plastic Sheath Over The Keyboard approach. Looked long & hard at several of these, as (like the Kursell) some have a very elegant look!
Unfortunately could not get past the plastic sheath. This strays into "personal preference" territory, but
1) Dislike the "feel" of the plastic on top of the keyboard;
2) A plastic sheath seems to force the two layers of the Fuze apart. That should vary with the type of plastic used: if I hold the Fuze up to a bright background it APPEARS that the gap between the halves should be adequate for a precisely THIN sheet... Overall fit of the Lower part of the case might have an impact here as well, but that's hard to gauge without buying Every Case on the market...
3) Was concerned that the plastic would not WEAR well, given sufficient usage. Yellowing, becoming ratty at the edges, & stretching all seem likely.
Case selection is like PIM choice: Personal Preferences play a major role in product selection, and there are multiple Solutions that are equally viable according to the preference of the end user.
Slip case, or Attached case?
Belt Clip, or Not? (Detachable, or Not? Rotating or Fixed?...)
Leather, Metal, Silicone, Hard Rubber, Or ??
Removable Top Cover (Kursell) or Permanently Attached?
Holders for data cards, styli, Other Things?
Have LOVED the RhinoSkin that has served as the Daily Carry Case for my Axim. But it is an Industrial looking piece of hardware - rather clunky & now somewhat beat up in appearance. So also have a nice (Belkin) Leather case that I use for "need a suit jacket" events.
Frankly - along similar lines - can imagine times where I might forego the extra protection of the Capdase and simply carry the Fuze in the Innocase, as it certainly presents less bulk when in the Seidio...
Options are Nice, but trying TOO many gets expensive!
Looking to also purchase the seidio innocase, but before I do can ppl confirm if it gives problems on pushing on the screen. Have had such cases that seem okay for a few weeks, but then the screen becomes unresponsive due to the case pushing on the touch portion of the screen.
Thanks

BEWARE! InvisibleShield For Xperia X2

So! Back in December 2010, I ordered a Zagg Invisible Shield for my significant other. It arrived in time for Christmas.
We noticed on the protector, before installation, while it was still on the original packaging sheet, there was orange peel, (for those who don't know, orange peel is a surface that looks and somewhat feels like the texture of an actual orange; small bumps.) There was also outlines on the front, to what looks like something heavy was set on the sheet either when it was manufactured, or packaged.
On top of that, there were in-prints of lines going across the protector, A 'square-shaped' in-print, from what looks like the same shape and size of either the solution bottle that it comes with, or the SKU SONERCX2FB sticker that they might stamp on the plastic bag while the protector is 'hot-off-the-press.
We were hoping once it was placed on the phone, it would smooth out, and go away... IT STAYED THERE.
It bugged him, there was rainbow effects, you can see the annoying inprints clearly while the screen is in use. THE SCREEN VIEW IS DISTORTED. Tilt the phone towards the right lighting, and you can still see them.
The protector isn't really smooth, it is soft, it does grab the stylus/nail. Creates a drag.
We made sure it cured for a day before using, to make sure the skin dries and adheres to the phone.
Its been couple months, and dirt has already found its way in the corners, started peeling, and has somewhat changed its color to being less clear.
GUESS WHAT? I decided to order another one in early February 2011, because I didn't want his new phone unprotected. I don't have patience for the exchange time period.
The new protector arrives. AND GUESS WHAT AGAIN??? IT'S THE SAME CONDITION AS THE FIRST ONE I ORDERED!! It had orange peel and line in print across the screen! Perfect 'square-shaped' in-prints! I didn't even bother to put it on.
STAY AWAY FROM INVISIBLESHIELD. I do not recommend this company AT ALL. Waste of money! Don't except anything better that GARBAGE.
Try Martin Field. http://www.martinfields.com/US/Print/MFOP-SEXperiaX2/en
Thanks for listening to my rant.
If course the pictures don't do justice, I tried.
I'm a Xperia X1i user, I recommend Shinomi (from Amazon.com) It pretty much covers the entire phone! (Camera lens, the sides, literally top and bottom of the phone.) Takes a while to install, but worth it.

Android Authority Unboxing and First Impressions

FINALLY some decent video coverage of this device.
You can find the YouTube link here.
He also addresses the GapGate controversy. Really doesn't seem to be that big of an issue at all on his unit. Not sure if the US models will differ or not.
After seeing the video and closeup, the said gap is now a non issue to me when initially it was.
It seems to run symmetrically around the entire device. Like a tiny tiny gutter? Lol
That kinda makes it consistent with samsung manual clarifying it is a manufacturing necessity for metal on plastic.
All systems go still. ..
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Free mobile app
yeah, it's barely there, so non-issue for me, and it was on the previous iterations. People just didn't notice.
If I had to gues I would say it is designrd that way to allow for expansion and contraction in different temperatures. There is glass, plastic and metal involved and all of which expand and contract at different temperatures therefore a tiny space to allow such a thing makes sence to me. Just a guess tho

If you've ever dropped a phone on an edge and broke a screen, it makes sense too!
Hard metal bending with no room to go but into glass really shatters screens, if there is a small gap or "buffer" then it will possibly prevent such easy breaks... at least that is one benefit I can gather from some "space".
Absolutely

Anyone tried both an aluminum and graphite? Trying to decide if vibrate is broken.

I ordered an aluminum 6p which had a small chip/dent on the phone upon arrival. I decided to return it and went for a graphite as a replacement. Of course it has a small area of paint chipped away near the camera but neither cosmetic flaw is too noticeable. What I did notice is that on vibrate, the graphite's body seems to reverberate after the vibration motor stops a bit while the aluminum does not. Just wondering of this is normal due to the materials or if the vibration motor on the graphite model is bad. It's definitely something anyone would notice having both phones side my side. Thanks for any input.
I've used both and I didn't notice any difference between the vibration motors. There is no reason to think they'd have different motors.

Hmm, maybe the motor is loose then. I was think the graphite and aluminum might be made of different materials so that's why they react differently.

i think every resource available has clearly stated that all three color variants are made from the same AL body, etc. two are painted. one is not.

Sleek solid "New" Note 10+ Schnail case

First I like to thank Schnail for providing me with their Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ case to tryout and review. After unboxing the case which is very nicely boxed up I noticed a small card which tells the buyer that a portion of the proceeds goes to charities to fight cancer. As someone who has lost two family members to cancer that meant a lot to me. That same card provides simple instructions to put the case unto the phone. It also directs the buyer to activate the 1-year warranty on their website. Also in the package is a photocopy handwritten note to the buyer, a nice touch.
On to the case review. It is a two piece case. The back part of the case is clear, to showcase the back of the beautiful Note 10+ back. It has a harden rubber side with reinforced corners. It also has that same rubber imbedded in the back portion of the case in the form of a small thin bead and nameplate. This seems to be a well thought out design to keep the clear back from touching the surface it rests on, thereby avoiding scratches to the clear back. Very nice!
I was disappointed at first to see the bottom speaker cutout was missing from the back portion of the case. After putting the case together I noticed there was indeed a bottom speaker grill in the top portion of the case. The sound seems to be redirected out of the front of the case this way somewhat similar to the top speaker. I thought this might muffle the sound, but I really did not notice this, and in fact the sound may actually be better.
The top portion of the case is a rigid plastic that snaps over the phone. It has a raised top and bottom to keep the face of the screen from touching the surface when laying face down. The top portion when snapped onto the phone does not seem to interfere with the curved edges of the phone and while I still have the original Samsung installed screen saver on my Note 10+ I believe this case would not interfere with any screen protector.
The case feels great in my hands, and my phone just feels secure and well protected. This case is every bit as protective as some of the higher priced cases I’ve used on other devices. The power/Bixby button and the up and down volume buttons are rather small compared to my other case, but they seem to be raised enough for me to find them without looking. The power port and the S-pen dock are deep. This seems to make for issues getting the s-pen out of the phone with case on. This is not a show stopper, but is the one flaw that I see so far. I’ll use the case for a bit to determine if it is an issue. Wireless charging with the case on works as it should.
Overall I find this case to be one of the best I’ve ever used. The difficult s-pen aside, a lot of thought has gone into this case, with plenty of focus on protecting your valuable asset. I think they have done a great job with this case.
UPDATE:
Having had the case on the phone continuously for the last 10 days I have some additional information. My initial fear of the s-pen hole being too small to access the pen has proven not to be an issue for me. I can say that someone with bigger fingers probably would find this to be problematic. Also my question about the sound quality has also not been a problem for me. I’ve used the phone to play music and as a conference device and the quality of sound has been impressive. So no issue there either. As for protection the case has performed very well there to. I dropped my new getting out of my truck shortly after installing the case and picked up my phone in horror only to see not a scratch or crak on my phone. The case itself also had no signs of the fall. I did notice that the clear back that showcased my beautiful device is starting to scratch up from being in my pocket or sliding on the table. It is not surprising to me and certainly not something that would stop me from buying the case, but I do expect in time it will look pretty bad.
Overall I’m impressed with the quality of the case and how thin it is. I’ve decided to keep this case on the phone as my daily driver.
So hang on, you do a review of a phone case, but you don't post pictures of how it looks?

Sorry about that...First review and in my haste to post the review I meant to grab the pictures from my other phone and forgot. I feel stupid. I posted pictures of the case now. Thanks for pointing it out for me.

Very detailed pictures, thank you. I didn't mean to seem like I'm attacking you, you just make the case sound so awesome and I wanted some pictures, it looks awesome thanks!
Not a fan of the rainbow color near the edges on the back of the case, looks alright otherwise

Cool. I figured they offered multiple colors, I was just saying I'd prefer it in a different color.
I may be in a case thread, but I'm definitely not looking for a case! Window shopping doesn't clutter my desk I've have always bought way too many case for every phone I've had, and always end up with a bunch of cases I only used one time. Before I got this phone I said wasn't gonna do that. I've got 2 cases and the S-View Flip Cover for my 10+, so I don't need to buy anymore
