Coreplayer Configuration - Touch HD General

Since changing my Rom and upgrading to coreplayer 1.3.6 the video quality has degraded so that now even media player is better.
When watching a video, sometimes the video freezes, but the audio carries on. I usually change from fullscreen to normal mode and back to full screen and the video carries on as normal
I used to be able to read the text in a video, its now degraded and barely legible. I checked the video in media player and it looks better.
I was going to post this query in the coreplayer forums, but I noticed how many of the treads actually had replies.
I've tried googling for configuration settings, but all I found was HD2 config settings, some of those settings arent listed in my configuration.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve the quality of coreplayer video?

What was your coreplayer settings before you changed rom? If your settings worked before you changed rom then just set it to what it was before.
Anyways, my coreplayer settings are;
set everything to default then in tools-settings-advanced
tick disable avc deblocking filter
set soft drop tolerance to 1.000
set hard drop tolerance to 1.100
these configurations work best for me
I hope it solves your problem

Thanks for your reply.
My settings were probably default before I had to flash a new rom, it seemed to work fine, so I didnt muck around with them.
Just to confirm I have Coreplayer 1.3.6 build 7427.
I have Tools => Settings => Select Page where I can select VIDEO, BUFFER, etc. I dont have an advanced option.
I couldnt find any of the options you mentioned either.
Is there a way to reset the settings to default? I cant find any options.

The only way i know to set everything back to default is to install it again.
tools-settings-select page-advanced. you have to press select page then go to the advanced page
I have the same version coreplayer as you

Lol, you're right. Sorry.
I didnt realise that I was able to scroll that screen up.
I did some more searching and managed to find this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-481714.html
It had the following setting suggestions:
Htc Touch Hd
Select Page ---
BUFFERING:
Normal buffer size = 992 KB
Preload at underrun = 70.0 %
Preload for audio = 0 KB
Microdrive mode = checked
Microdriver buffer size = 16000 KB
Microdriver starts at 1472 KB
VIDEO:
Video output = QTv Display
Video quality = High
Smooth Zoom = On
Dither = Uncheck
ADVANCE:
Slow video memory = Check
I entered the above settings (except the ADVANCE).
On Testing I found that coreplayer played fullscreen video for 10 mins without a problem.
I havent tested the clarity yet (ie being able to read text), but will do so this evening
Thanks for your help.

If you read further down that thread, you can see that I also participated in that discussion. I believe it was barisahmet that suggested playing with some of the advanced settings. I have since stuck with the current settings that I mentioned above because it works best for me.
Glad to be of help!

I found coreplayer was still having problems. My audio wasnt syncing with video.
Despite mucking about with the settings some more, things didnt improve.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to wipe the settings, but that didnt help.
I eventually found the settings were stored in Application Data\Coreplayer\Config.xml.
After renaming the file, things went back to default.
EDIT: Just thought I would add that this is also where coreplayer keeps the serial number. Really secure
If you're comfortable editting xml files a better option would be to delete everything between the <CONFIG></CONFIG> tags.

Large & CIF Camera Video resolutions hack

HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\P2\MainCamSupportCapSize = dword:0x0A (10)
change to dword:0x3A (58) and you will have Large & CIF resolutions.
Dmitry
can u explain better how to do it because when i go in i cant change the dword value and its # is 10 for me

Use any registry editor (like Resco Registry Editor or PHM Registry editor) and going to the HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\P2\MainCamSupportCapSize . Default value is 10 decimal (0xA hex). Change value to 58 decimal (0x3A hex).
I modified the registry for these values and it does seem to increase the quality but not the image size of the pictures or video.

After registry patch the L & CIF resolutions will be available in video camera mode. Try to click on resolution icon on top bar or select it in options.
the new resolutions are
L = 320x240
CIF = 352x288
which are much better than
S = 128x96
M = 176x144
thanks for the info
i made the edit and it enabled the two resolutions in the options, but when i actually tried to take a video with those settings (either large or CIF) it came out as the same low resolution it normally does, but the video quality is even worse (very choppy). is there a way to get around this?

No problem. HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Recparam\MP4Large\Bitrate
default value 128000. I chaged it to 1024000 and now video quality is better.
hey, thanks for the reply...did what you said, and picture quality is better, but video is still very choppy and still much below the framerate id get while recording in medium. id be happy if I can just get it up to 15 frames per sec at this quality.
MJPEG @ 15FPS seems to be the sweet spot with Dmitri's tweak
Thanks for this tweak Dmitry! After spending few hours testing various settings, I found that using MJPEG @ 15 FPS got me the best results in both visual quality and framerate consistency (FPS for MJPEG can be set under Recparam\AVILarge although 15FPS is the default, if I recall right). Anything higher than 15-20 FPS with high motion videos will result in erratic captures.
Note also that you'll want a fat MicroSD card to store MJPEG videos as these can become large fairly quickly.
This is an amazing reg tweak, i knew it was a matter of time before this leaked out. This camera is more powerful than whats let on and i know it
Now if only we can get some frame rate tweaks in here that work
Well I actually got the frame rate to not be so choppy by just changing HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Recparam\MP4Large\FrameRate to 5 Hell you may even be able to go lower. Because that's all I kept doin an it just seemed to get better each time I lowered it.
Changing the framerate to 5FPS for Mpeg4 yields horrible playback results. It's not even worth taking videos with the setting at 5 because of the slow, jerky movements.

5 frames per second? That is REALLY choppy, maybe you meant 15?
i've done some testing and it seems like mpg4 just uses too much processing power to do the compression and that motion jpeg (AVI) at 15fps yields pretty good results. will try and do some more testing and report back.

I messup. I changed the maincamsupportcaptsize and dont remeber the org setting. the 2nd problem is that i could not add change to dword:0x3A (58) it would only let me change from 8 to 58 but not the 0X3a?
Not sure if changing this messed up my MMS but I haven't changed any other feature. Right now after doing this hack, my MMS won't send out, giving me an error that says my image size of 16k or whatever is over the 0k limit?
Reseting to default
thanks for the info but I have tried that reg hack and it will stay at 58 until i launch the camera/camcorder function then i go back in and it is back at 10. don't know if i need to soft reset before i launch cam? any help would be a appreciated.

TCMP flv plugin give choppy playback

Before on my 6700, this played flawlessly. I even upgraded the ROM to WM6 with no issues either.
Now sprint gave me a 6800 Mogul phone to replace the 6700. I went to ytpocket.com and followed the instructions and installed TCMP .7 and the FLV plugin, and it gets the video but the playback is terrible.
I thought that maybe updating the TCMP to the .81 version would work, but that version says it cannot read the MMS protocol (even with it selected under file associations).
Has anybody ran into this problem?
**EDIT**
I resolved my issue, I had to change the video driver and it played fine! But now I can't get the video to sync with the audio...any ideas would be helpful.
I am having the same problem. Although the flv files didn't play back choppy, the audio never synced up. I've tried changing a LOT of settings, and they have all improved sound and video quality, but they still don't sync up. So hopefully someone can enlighten us with what could work.
Thanks
there's a setting for audio/video offset under settings -> advanced
I forget what value I set it to, but play with that until it looks about right.

Ya, I was messing with those settings before, but I guess I didn't change it enough. Cause right now I have it set to -350 for the A/V offset to adjust the video being ahead of the audio.
With this setting, it worked a lot better! Everything is just about synched, maybe a hair off here and there...however it's being viewed off my phone, so I doubt myself or anybody else will barely notice that it's off by a fraction.
To test this, I viewed the video 1 2 3 4 by feist, it's a basic video with her singing and it's easy to see the video and the sound.

Best settings for CorePlayer?

I am trying to get the best video using CorePlayer, mostly for YouTube now. I will start watching DVD's in the near future as well.
What are people seeing as good settings?
after installing coreplayer set the buffer size to 2400 and the preload underrun to 70 and that should give you perfect playback

Where are these settings? I just bought and installed the latest CorePlayer for Windows Mobile (1.2.5 build 4506 for ARM) and I don't see these settings anywhere under Options or Preferences.
Menu, Tools, Preferenfes - then click Select Page and pick what you want to adjust. There are some other pages that people recommend settings, but I haven't found one that really sticks out yet.
Thanks, Ryan; I never would have found it--"Select Page"--that's a new one on me.
"Preload at underrun" is located on the Buffering page. Interestingly, both the buffer and the preload at underrun came preset to the values that Dominican706 recommended.
i to would like to know if there are any optimal settings for watching .avi on my mogul in TCMP. i looks very nice with stock settings and for the most part plays well but it does tend to skip every now and then. i was watching a file on my SD card if that makes a differnce
Please, anybody knows what Microdrive mode does from the Buffering page in CorePlayer?

I experience a constant lag (every 5 minutes) when listening to MP3, do you think change the settings of buffering can help?

I've had this when the built in equaliser is enabled. I solved it by not using the built in equaliser but instead using Audio Booster.
I have no improvements with those settings :S Its the same but it isn't bad.
But if i see the benchmark the video is much smoother than playing it.
Edit: maybe a bit faster after opening a new video

Do you know the REG setting for this so that i dont have to set this over and over again when I flash a new rom?
No REG, settings is located in the config.xml in the Application Data folder...
//Nik
no difference
Hi, I see no difference or at least no discernable one, however I am using stock latest rom, i reencode all video and use wmp as hardware encoding is enabled through wmp api.The way you can play a decent quality with a decent bit rate 500 and above whereas coreplayer will struggle to play anything smoothly above 150.
An example. download any recent 350 lost episode and load and play it in coreplayer, this will be around 620x352 at a bitrate of 60-120 depending on the download. It will play and not too badly but will skip and freeze now and again. Reenode it using Mp4ForHD v2.6 using a higher bit rate and 800x640 res (phone standard res) and it will play perfectly in WMP even though you are using a higher res and bitrate as the hardware encoding is ised. There is no real need for coreplayer as long as you can be bothered re-enocding, if you cannot then you will have to put up skipping video.
coreplayer is greate for music and low res video as it has a lot of codec support however, A good purchase with this in mind.
WOW!!! It works on my Raphael..

For touch HD, just tick "Disable AVC Deblocking" at advanced tab, "soft drop tolerance" to 0.3 sec, and let other settings defaults. Enjoy your hardware-like video player.
P.S: Other settings must be default. I tried with the settings at the first post, just got worse.
512kb of video buffer is pretty enough, and I couldnt understand why no audio buffer and higher video buffer, since I have got even better results wih 256kb video buffer and 64 audio buffer.

Hi, can someone post the default buffer settings, I have mucked about so much with them I have forgotten what they are. Note however that the soft drop change seems to be produce the best overall results in that you get the longest amout of smooth play in between frame drops and minor freezes. This is going to be different though depending on what we are playing. I wonder when discussing issues like this we should all agree on a movie or TV episode we can all download and then we are all reading from the same book. It should also be noted we are all probably using different roms which also adds another layer of complexity to it. I am currently using GRIDEVO 1.7B based on 28011 os, those that claim to have smooth playback, what rom are you on and what are you watching, ie whats the bit rate, size of file, codec used and image size.

feck it
feck it, i'm going to get a HD2, these problems will go away then, my contract is up soon.

The Ultimate HD2 & coreplayer 1.3.6 setup, 3800kbps wvga (h264) no single frameskip.

The Ultimate HD2 & coreplayer 1.3.6 setup, 3800kbps wvga (h264) no single frameskip.
This isnt a joke, i finally found the problem of coreplayer on our HD2,
this will solve all your problems with coreplayer:
settings:
go to select page then video:
Video Output: DirectDraw (before you change this make sure there is no video running on coreplayer cus it will freeze your device, otherwize,
go to DirectDraw page and change Overlay to YUY2, then change Output to DirectDraw)
DO NOT USE GDI and RAWFRAMEBUFFER- unless you like choppy or framy(lol) videos. (make sure you have 1.3.6 one to get max performance with DirectDraw).
now this is important:
go to select page then DirectDraw:
uncheck Overlay with colorkey
uncheck Use blitting instead of overlay
check Use device streching for blitting.
Overlay: YUY2
go to select page then Advanced:
Soft-Drop tolerance: 0.300 /0.200 /0.250 ( personally i use 0.250 it seems better )
Hard-Drop tolerance: 0.000
check Disable AVC deblocking filter
( EDIT: about AVC deblocking filter:
with h264 you can see some annoying squares on the video sometimes, now i recommend to uncheck this option and use TG01-D3DM drivers from chainfire, although in 3800kbps videos you will receive skips sometimes, but dont use such high bitrate with coreplayer XD tried 2000kbps one and works smooth with deblocking enabled)
after you have done all this coreplayer will run very fast,
BUT we havnt finished yet!!
playback will still have slowdowns, and this isnt related to the settings,
it is related to a bug inside coreplayer, which affects the autoscale feature of the snapdragon.
have you been wondering why benchmark is so high while playback lags a bit?
I explored this thing, i can tell you that when i check "Play movie in backgroung", and watch the cpu speed: it goes down from 768MHZ to 400-300MHZ randomaly then goes back into 768MHZ, interesting isnt it?
when it drops down to 300-400 it has lags, and when it returns to 768, the lags stop.
the final solution:
http://www.netripper.com/leo/cpuspeed/LeoCpuSpeed_v2.zip
this program will allow you to keep the CPU in its position or make it full 1GHZ.
all you have to do is open it then tap "Disable autoscaling" and you will have Full 1ghz speed.
you can explore yourself by re-enabling autoscaling ("(Re)enable autoscaling")
then activate movie playback in background through coreplayer, then go to this software and watch the speed dropdowns.
now the "Disable autoscaling" is perfect for coreplayer, it also use 1ghz instead of 768MHZ, and also does not drop down randomally.
it is recommanded to activate autoscaling after finishing with coreplayer, so you can use more battery, it barely affects the speed of everything else but coreplayer, because it automatically increases to 1ghz when you switch between apps, but does not stay 1ghz inside the app itself.
(im not a native speaker, i hope you could understand this.)
enjoy guys.
Core player does not work anymore!!
Followed these instructions to the letter.
Core player stopped playing videos!
Had to hard reset and restore. Beware.
Edit: I am using (and paying for!) version 1.3.6
I hard resetted because reinstalling did not solve the issue.
Hard resets are almost painless when you backup regularly (I use SPB backup... excellent).
maybe you are not using the 1.3.6 version of coreplayer
thats why it didnt play any video (DirectDraw works only on 1.3.6 and one more version - at the others you get green screen)
anyway why hard reset? you could reinstall coreplayer..
It worked for me though.
The benchmark for video with following properties reads 140%.
Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 848x480 23.98fps
Audio: MPEG Audio Layer 3 48000Hz stereo 128kbps
It plays smoothly. =)
glad this works for you,
dont forget the fix for the cpu slowdown, cus without this the benchmark is only a number, and the playback will be with lags.
can you post your bit-rate?
Thanks for the tip!
Btw, this might be kinda off topic, but do you know how to get the htc volume slider (volume slider as in HTC music player) to work in coreplayer when I press the volume rocker?
Currently, the video will pause whenever I press on the volume rocker to change the volume.
Umm i have no idea,
maybe you can search google, but i have another solution:
theres an option around coreplayer settings to make the video keep playing when it exits fullscreen, so all you have to do is increase volume, then go back to fullscreen and the video keeps playing..
working
"you are good, you are very good "
No more lost frames, works indeed but now quality is not so good, I see lots of artefacts on my lower framerate videos.
Maybe I messed up some settings ?
i guess you did, go over the color settings etc.. ( i use 0 on brightness )
there is absolutely no drop-down in the quality,
if i play the same video also in album - you cannot tell which is which if i show you both in fullscreen.
I made those brightnes settings and the artefacts are still visible .
???
Thanks for help
ummm i dont completely understand what "artefacts" is lol, (not a native speaker sorry, i used dictionary but the meaning doesnt make sense xD, maybe you should try to explain this better)
i do understand that the quality isnt like before, this means you messed up with the settings somewhere. i do not see any drop-down in the quality of my movies.
Artefacts are little squares on the screen when is lot of movement
Sorry for my poor english
got it, do you say these werent there before? actually this is common with flv files.
one more question: does it happen when the screen goes black?
yes these apear after your settings
I had first part of settings ( yuy2 ) and I guess they apeared after I did the second part of settings ( soft and hard drop )
nope this is defenetly not related to soft and hard drop, im thinking now with my hd2. but tell me if you mean those squares when the screen goes black, cus somehow in the past i solved this.
when the screen is black , the squars are not visible
when I watch any movie, video they are very ugly ( in some grey area )
i cant notice any squares, once i had them left on the black screen, but i solved this, there are no squares!!
try use videos with higher bitrate, usually low-quality videos cause squares, also i would recommend to go back to the default settings to see if theres any difference which i guess there isnt.
EDIT: try unchecking Disable AVC Deblocking filter, and tell me if this helps. (this massivily drops the benchmark)
strange because I did not see them before
How I can reset to the default settings ?
install again ?
Try enabling avc deblocking filter (in the edit last post)
im going to sleep... 2:00AM here, Cya.
when I enable avc deblocking filter those artefacts are not so visible
but now freezes the playback, is not so fluid like before
when I disable avc filter it is smooth but with larger artefacts
I give up and go to sleep, thank you a lot,
to be continued
