Hi,
I've bought an HTC Evo and brought it home, outside the US. I have an account with a CDMA carrier and the phone works in roaming mode fine. However, when I came to the service center and asked to associate it with my account, they told me they can't because it is not listed as one of the carrier's approved models.
In general, is there a way of "activating" the phone myself or do I have to go through the carrier?
Thank you
There is a thread about getting the evo to work on metropcs accounts, also cricket I think. Check that and see if you can tweak it to work for your provider in your country.

I am in the same situation,
Cricket is Tri-Mode (AWS) in my area, South Texas.
Been looking for the OEM ROM for the PPC 6800 with no luck

Thank you very much for the link SC-Manhattan!
I have a T-Mobile HD2, but T-mobile doesnt workin at my workplace. AT&T works so I was wonderning if I could force a roam. I've tried to manually connect to the network, but network registration fails. Anybody know anything?
Roaming is for countries other than your home country... no operator that I know of lets you roam to their competitors' networks... (apart from operators that own no physical network and have agreements to use other carriers' networks, in which case you can benefit from all... but that's rare).
But...
That is exactly the case with T-Mobile and AT&T. I got to school in Denmark, SC in the country. There I can roam on AT&T cuz theres no T-Mobile tower. When I got home its back to T-Mobile. The only thing I could say is that the roaming could be region or area specific. Could that be the case?
I guess the best way to know is to call TMO and ask...
I roam on AT&T just fine up here (Mendocino County in Northwestern California) in dead spots, and that's in-market where there are also T-Mobile sites. We're a former Edge Wireless market (AT&T Affiliate, taken over by AT&T in April of 2008), and all former Edge Wireless markets have this, we get to use AT&T and T-Mobile's network, I can force (instead of letting it automatically roam over) it to roam on AT&T if I want as well.
force roaming hd2
i have just purchased a hd2 i would like to know nore on this subject since i do not reside in a area that offers descent cell service... i know it is possible on a g1 (my last phone) but would there ve a way to do this on a wm 6.5 fustom rom?? or another ahdroid on for that matter i know nothing has been discissed in some time now on this thread but any help/redirectoon would br much appeeciated.... thanks. ps. sorry i should enable spell check.
Hi, all. I moved from Australia to the US, and brought my GT-I9505 with me. I'm on an at&t sim, however if I look at my phone's "Network Operators," I'm unable to join the at&t network. Instead, I see that I'm connected to a network called Maritime. I've tried asking at&t for help here, and they've tried giving me APN settings, but nothing has enabled me to use the at&t network.
The AT&T network appears as an available network when I search for networks. But if I select it, I get a spinning wheel saying "Registering on AT&T" followed by a toast message that says 'Unable to connect. Try later."
For now, I'm happily on the Maritime network, which is actually a network here in California so that people on cruise ships get some signal. It's not a huge deal for now, but I have a suspicion that a day will come when this will become a problem.
I'm wondering if I need to change my modem, or my ROM in order for the phone to work correctly on the at&t network. Anyone have any ideas about that? On previous phones, I had rooted the phone, but with this one, I left it as stock and haven't changed a thing and thinking maybe there's some Australian software that is not compatible with AT&T? Thanks for your advice.
Thanks.
did you purchased a sim here? if you did you should go to the store where you activate it and ask the reps for help

Yeah, that was the first thing I did. Then I called and spent an inordinate amount of time with tier 2 support, who eventually asked me if I could just live with it.
Hm, I've taken a few trips to the States with my i9505, and managed each time to roam on the at&t (and T-mobile) network without any issues. 3g worked well, and there were no dropped calls. That being said, my phone uses a Nordic, and not Australian, baseband, which I suspect might be the reason why everything's working here. In addition, I'm also using a custom ROM.
I just replaced my old Moto G 1st gen with a Moto G4+. (XT1644)
Put the sim card in and it doesn't connect. I am using Metro PCS as the carrier in the USA.
Under settings fast.metropcs.com shows up, but it doesn't show as one of the network providers.
Would appreciate any insights

I'd say you may need to Google the apn settings for Metro and make sure they're in your phone's apn settings. I've had to do that for T-Mobile sometimes.

Did your original Moto have sim? My first gen didn't it was CDMA. The new G4 is good across CDMA and GSM. If your using the GSM you need to make sure it's activated. If you are using the CDMA sim you need to activate the phones imei with them as it can be complicated.
I have Net10 and that's what I discovered when I switched between the 2.
MetroPCS isn't plug and play, swapping your sim from one device to another. You have to call customer service and add the imei to your account. Hope that helps. Speaking from experience. Currently using a G4+ with MetroPCS. APN setup isn't needed either as the phone has them already installed
THANK YOU
I was able to get activated. Yes, you have to contact customer service to have them register the IMEI and the SIM number. That was all that needed. No APN changes.
I had a hickup in that I did not know what my 8 digit PIN was. I could access my online account, but there is no way to get the PIN from your account, and the Customer Service only know how to read scripts, not answer questions. Their solution was to go to a store and have it taken are of. I live in Hawaii, and there is NO store here, meaning flying 5 hours to solve????
Finally signed in again, and clicked on the "chat" button which asked for the PIN, but I tried a few possible combos and got in and then the did it all through the chat.
Again thank you for your input. So great to have a supportive community.
Well, I gave up trying to use a Verizon mvno. One of my Page Plus automatic renewals failed, and it wouldn't activate until 2nd level support changed my IMEI to an iPhone 6 I borrowed. The procedure in the Verizon thread about activating an iPhone 6 and then moving the SIM to the Axon didn't work for me.
As we know, going to Sprint is out.
T-Mobile in my area has a weak signal.
That leaves American Telephone & Telegraph.
I tried searching for AT&T and ATT in this forum, but I only get results for at or attempt. I even tried putting quotes around it.
I bought a Red Pocket AT&T SIM, although it might be for T-Mobile. There's no printed identification on it, but someone at Cellular Depot wrote 'A' on it. There are two APNs on it T-Mobile US LTE and T-Mobile US.
When I try to add a Red Pocket AT&T APN, it will save it until I enter 410 for the MNC. Then it deletes it.
Did they send me the wrong SIM?
I'm running version B32, and I'm stuck at this level without the ZTE update server.
Was there a trick to save it on another phone, and then move it over?
Thanks
Just to close the issue...
I was accidentally sent a T-Mobile SIM. Cellular Depot was very good, and quickly sent me a replacement SIM for AT&T service.
