Tomorrow I will have had my Evo for two weeks. Today the USB connector on the bottom is funky/loose, only goes to recharge if I push/hold it a little sideways. Even then no adb or drive connect. Arrgghhhhhh!!! Who wants to bet Sprint won't fix since it's rooted? How does rooting it make the connector work loose?
Sorry, just wanted to pitch a *****.

Pull the file out of the stock exe and put it on your sd card then reflash it to root, you don't need the usb port to go back to root and get them to replace it. The exe is only a little program that pushs it onto the phone.
No I don't know which file you need i just know that it's possible, anyone care to elaborate?

My brother had the same issue on his moment. He had to tightly wrap the cord around the phone to get it to charge. He had insurance on it, and they swapped it out for a new one for free.
did you charge using one from sprint or the one that came with the evo? The one i bought from sprint is a lot harder to put in on my phone =/

Yeah, it came with the phone from Sprint!
You're saying the aftermarket cable has a slightly bigger connector? I'll have to try it.
It does look like the "shell" of the female connector in the phone has spread a little, maybe a "vaginal tuck" will help.
Can someone who has both an HTC and aftermarket cable tell me how they differ dimensionally, especially WRT the positioner tab in the middle of the shell, it seems a little too thin to do its intended job on the HTC cable I have.

Of course it was rooted! I'd also replaced the boot animation and removed the start up sound. Oh yeah, the recovery too. The boot sequence I can fix from the terminal, but I don't see how to get back both the stock ROM and stock recovery without having adb.
Anyway, I did do a little prying on the connector shell and no joy, at least not yet. It bends way too easily, like thick tinfoil, probably tears just as quick.

When you use the stock RUU to unroot it removes everything and sets it back to stock. Recovery, boot anim, everything

Did I mention I have no system available that runs those wacky .EXE files (and no inclination to install one)? Besides, doesn't this require a USB connect?
Current status: it appears no amount of connector shell reforming is going to re-establish USB connectivity. I can charge, but that's it. I'll report back when I've tried another cable. In the meantime, be gentle with your USB connector!

If you can charge then something else is wrong. You are getting the connectors touching to create the charge.

I know this is a strange request but I need to deliver my phone for repair because of HW issues and since it seems way to hard to recreate the original operator image from the dump, I thought that if I could get the phone into a situation where there is no bootloader then that should be enough.
Any ideas?
Thanx,

Wish I could but if I break it physically need to pay a fine
simple answer:
HTC doesn't take "the phone was burned" under warranty...
So instead of giving nonsense remarks, you could have said nothing instead.
Of course this is cheating, in a way, but since there are HW issues and HTC doesn't repair unless it's the original ROM on it...
Jocool: One method would be to disconnect during a ROM installation, thou i'm not sur if you can't still get it right after that.
You'd probably have to get it to the original bootloader which shouldn't be too hard and then interrupt it during a Radio flash.
Flash a radio and pull the cable about half way through...i think that should do it!

actually, i thought HTC dont cover software issues?
and if YOU damage the bootloader in the update process is that not your responsibility? as i'm pretty sure the RUU states somewhere that you update at your risk?
if i were you, just do something to fubber up the mainboard, best thing i suggest is to put something into the micro sd card slot which will basically insulate the pins such that it doesnt make contact with the memory card, that way you can get the thing changed like i did with my old charmer!

brick your phone???
4 months ago I sent my device for repairing, but they sent it back after 3 months with a note that: "the device can not be repaired any more becasue the Flashbaustein (this is the name in German and I couldn't find the english word) is kaputt"
of course I can assure you they even didn't try to switch on the device in these 3 months... after a long discussion with the T-Mobile agent, I took my device home and tried to re-flash a new ROM on it and everything went as it should be.
be careful with the risks you might cause to yourself
i once did it with my htc wizard ... though i forgot how already ... but I think it did it through the sd card... not sure if it's possible with hermes though since I didn't try that ...
but anyway, i think I modified the first few bytes in the 512 header of the rom with random characters and copied into the sd card to flash my wizard.
Tada, killed the bootloader
I hope that you can do that with the hermes ... I did see a wiki on how to flash your hermes through your sd.
Hope this helps

Hi
Try this, i assure you that will do the trick.
Connect a USB Cableto the HTC, get a 20V AC adapter, connect a wire to the Positive and one to the negative on the AC adapter connector, connect the negative to the outside of the usb cable, and, use the positive in every other contacts, wen you see SMOKE, STOP.
I'am preaty shure that they wont get to the BootLoader
New Idea
I have an idea...
1. Get an anvil
2. Get a sledgehammer
3. Place your Hermes on top of the anvil
4. Drop the sledgehammer on it
5. Pick up the pieces
6. Glue them together
7. Polish it with a fine cloth
8. Wrap it in a fancy paper
9. Send it to wherever you were sending it in the first place
Cheers.

I believe it would be more effective with a high voltage... Just imagine pluging it directly into a high voltage power line... It would be better than fireworks
the best way is to cause an electrical fault. just connect a 12V car battery to the battery terminals of your phone. just be careful as you may kill yourself due to the high current flwoing out of the battery regardless even though its 12v.
Thanx to all that gave me ideas some practical and some not
I was able to convince my provider to replace my phone without turning it on so problem solved
I fried my blackberry by just putting it in the microwave for 15 seconds, pop and bam dead
If you wanna brick your phone, just go into clockwork recovery and format your sdcard and so a whole system wipe. That's what I did then took it to verizon and got a new Droid x.
ok so i got a big problem my mogul is stuck at the supposed ''bootloader''.
i tried running a couple of diffrent things to try and fix it becuase i read somewhere that the phone is ''bricked'' but i dont know
my screen has red, blue, green and a white bar
in the red bar it says
TITA100
SPL-2.07.0000
CPLD-9
this has been f'd up for 4 days now,and neither htc or sprint knows whats wrong
and also my mogul wont connect via usb (but my razr will so cord and computer are both alright)
it happened while i was listening to audio manager, the sound cut out and wouldnt work so i tried to reset upon reseting i got here
i have tried to hard reset and the phone just goes back to the same spot
i have also tried renaming the ruu_signed.nbh (from the sprint official rom) to TITAIMG.nbh and it installs successfully but still goes to bootloader (even tried the ollie unlocker or whatever)
PLEASE HELP ME OUT GUYS!!!
have you tried just installing a new rom?
yes it installs successfully (when i load it from phone, not from my computer) but then it still goes straight to bootloader
wait, you were installing a rom from the storage card? and if so i would probably trying installing from an actual computer and see what happens

Silly question, but have you tried pulling the battery? How about the exit bootloader program? I have never used the exitbl program, but there are instructions on how to do it around here somewhere...
TRY THIS
so i fixed the phone myself messing around with it
(no thanks to you so called ''pros'')
but still my charger/usb port wont work and my battery has 6% left lol
im gonna call htc right now and see what to do
So, care to explain what you did to "fix" it so when people search for this problem they might get an answer instead of posting a common question in a thread?
i pressed the camera camera by accident when i was pressing reset and it took me to the htc screen where its shows your radio version and rom version and everything.
it said ''no radio'',so i pulled the battery and put my memory card with the newest sprint rom (the file i used from the sprint rom was the RUU_signed.nbh,i named it to TITAMG.nbh)then i manually put the phone back into booloader by pressing power and camera key at the same time.
the rom loaded up and installed, then when it was finished i pulled the battery.
to turn the phone on i pressed the camera button, then the reset button both at the same time.then the phone loaded up and went through all the ''welcome to windows mobile'' garbage. there you go,thats exactly what i did.
but now my charger port wont work

I did see some threads on a different site I think about the USB port having some issues with the pins getting pushed back up into the back of the port and not making a connection any more. This kind of sounds like your problem as you said that your computer doesn't recognize the phone either. Some people were able to straighten the pins back down and use it again, some the pins broke so good luck if this is the case.

Have you tried a nother USB cable?
Have you tried connecting with a different cable? Are you trying to connect from android or MAGLDR? What do you mean by "adapter"?
Just a couple of questions that might help the community better diagnose your problem.
Also, on that note, you don't need the USB to go back to Windows Mobile, the SD card method is also always availible. Unless of course you wish not to lose HSPL and MAGLDR. Though i realise all of the above is of little use to you currently if you cannot charge your device.
i feel you bro
bro,
i tried everything also the sd card method it did not work out for me.
The only way was just to struggle with the cable in order to charge, it took me alot of time cuz i had to hold the cable the hole time like a statue.
if i moved a little bit i just easily lost the connection with the charging or the usb connection with the pc.
with a lot of effort i managed to install the official wp 6.5 os and remove the hspl.
I just send it for repair to htc so i dont have to worry about it anymore.

yeah thats happened to me. some hd2s have an issue with mini usb port not really being soldered right, so it seems sometimes its "loose" and i remember what time i was flashing a rom, and it just paused and i got an error. im sure you had to hold it a certain way just to get a charge huh? lol
if you have a know how, its pretty easy to solder the usb on real tight, if not just send it in for repair.
ahaha nice man,
But i was holding the whole time the phone with the charger and in the same time i was giving my little sister instruction to start the program to flash an go on. Other wise i would lose the charge opportunity, it was really hard.
yea, theres a thread here that i followed to fix it permanently the first try. was real easy. but glad you got it fixed and returned it to stock
Ok so maybe I spoke too soon. Yesterday I was telling my brother that the Note is the most reliable phone I've ever owned.....then....
I started having issues with charging. My Note would not charge, then it would change after several resets. It would charge, then stop, then start again etc etc....making a lot of beeping noises.
Now, it seems to be charging, but Voice talk keeps loading, and I've turned off the home key activation option. I also get the notification icon saying to disable car mode.
I really hope someone can help, thanks in advance.
kris
Great, now it's not charging, again!
Actually when I get the notification issue from Voice talk, the battery starts charging for a second until the notification disappears and stops charging....
Now factory reset my phone again and charging worked while restarting and restoring but when loaded the voice talk app keeps coming up and going off, so I have a black flashing screen constantly....gonna try restarting/reset without restoring...
Hi leicashot, this shouldn't happen. Which firmware version are you currently running? I recommend installing the latest LB1 stock, unless you have AT&T Note.
Some users have reported similar symptoms when there was dust in the mini usb port. Try cleaning the device, and if all else fails, you should send it back to Samsung for repair.

No charging issues for me but my Note started doing the driving mode thing at about 3am today and has been doing it on and off all day!
Exceedingly annoying!
are you trying to charge from a PC or a wall outlet?
I usually charge via mains but it wasn't charging or even plugged in at the time this started happening. It was just sitting on the table by my bed. I even powered it off but it switched itself back on!
Here is how to fix it.
Take out the battery and take a plastic edge like credit card or even a regular tiny small screwdriver and push the pins (strip) inside the phone. I mean, to take the screw driver and push in the pins back inside the phone, in inside the usb charging port. your problem will disappear. make sure your plastic flexible after-market phone cover has a big enough hole at the bottom to allow you to connect a usb cable easily to the phone, or else, cut open a bigger hole on the cover.
Good luck
so here it is again: you have to push in the usb port pins back inside the phone, straight in without bending them. you can also buy a usb charging port from ebay for 22 bucks and change it yourself in 10 minutes. its a hardware problem so stop resetting your phone.
Nop bro i dont think so, cuz it happened same with me sometime after i bought galaxy note same thing happened with me too. I mean exactly same. Indeed. I remain convinced this is not hardware and is software related. The main reason for my thoughts there are that as well as the driving mode thing it seems that some piece of software is trying to load up as it asks me if I want to run whatever it is in either Clock or TuneIn Radio. Bizarre. Also, the first time it happened it was bang on 3am. Everytime I turned the phone off it would come back on exactly two minutes later.
The second night it started doing it bang on 1am.
I'm waiting to see what time it starts tonight.
It doesn't (so far) do it at all during the day.
Going to give it a couple of days to see what happens then go figure out how to go back to a factory ROM rather than the the Rocket 22 I have on here now.

I've been having the same problem for a few days now.
I've just pushed the pins in with the corner of my charging cables connector and the problem stopped.
There was also a notification that flashed up saying something like: USB connector or device removed.
Voice talk is still managing to launch itself, even after pushing the pins in. I'm on stock LB2 so maybe I've finally found a reason to flash a GB rom?
Happened to me yesterday. Got a toothbrush and cleaned usb port on phone. Now seems ok

Reinstall a new rom
For reinstalling a new ROM, surely for the first time, you need to get into NVflash mode, that is a bit tricky to get there as it requires a sequence of buttons in the right timing, be sure to do this while it's connected to the wall socket, or otherwise it won't work as well. Read yourself in about the Vega, and the current stable and latest rom must be VegaBean, however I did not get that from XDA but from some other forum.
For getting the hang of NVflash the first time, keep a beer at hand. It tends to freak people out when it doesn't work first time.
Btw, I'm wondering why you just got this tablet, I have one as well for almost 2 years now, but the unresponsive touchscreen and low quality of it bugs me as hell in this day of age, going to buy a Nexus 7 as soon as it's in stock again. Hope you will be happy with it though.
