I think I liked the Windows mobile version better. It was easier to navigate back and forth and make quick jumps across screens. I've tried a custom launcher but it wasn't that great. Anyone got any suggestions?
pinch the screen.
If you mean between the home screens, hit home twice to see all the screens at once, then tap the one you want.
If you mean switching back and forth between apps, hold down the home button, and a small window will pop-up showing recently used apps, and tap the one you want.
Sometimes I miss WM Sense but you have to realize is that while Android Sense has the same name, it's a different product. Sense on WM is a Today screen plugin. It is one piece of software that has lots of different functions so there is seamless switching between them by sliding the slider to different pages. But with Android, there are (in this case) seven different home screens to be filled with apps, widgets, etc. HTC created widgets that often resemble WM Sense pages such as the flip clock, music player, bookmarks, etc. They're fundamentally different due to they environments in which they're used, due to different operating systems.
ya i liked being able to switch pages with just a flick or press of a thumb. A pinch requires two hands and double pressing the home button requires 3 button presses. Maybe if there were a few shortcuts to the different homescreens at the bottom, that would make switching screens alot easier. Just nit-picking but if there is something out there that makes that easier, that would be great

So Ive noticed that the latest phoneAlarm has basically the same functionality as Second today, (phoneAlarm is useless if it is not run as a today screen plugin) and it works jsut as well, if not a TAD bit faster. So my questions is, what have people noticed if anything else in the difference of the two.
Also, One thing I have noticed is that when I launch Manila, via the phonealarm's softkey, then when i press the home hardware button, it doesnt take me to the home tab of manila which bugs me cause i used to use that a lot. Any thoughts on what might be going on there?
You hit the nail on the head with the "home" button, I didn't like that much either.
The main difference is in boot order, I think. If you use PhoneAlarms functionality (i.e. "enable TF3D" option), then PhoneAlarm (and anything else) runs 'natively' in TODAY and adds the softkey to LOAD Manila -- therefore you will always START with the Today screen, and Manila will not run until you press the key. (this appears to effect the hardware home button as well)
If you use SecondToday, however, Manila is now running natively FIRST -- and your Today apps will also start running in the background automatically. Remember to disable the TF3D option in PhoneAlarm, and you can still use both softkeys for whatever you want in SecondToday.
I've tried both, and definitely prefer SecondToday. The Home key now works from anywhere.
Been having fun with 6.5 after getting it loaded up, the home screen is great. I kind of think the start menu has something to be desired, big icons that scroll up and down. Well got me thinking, is there a plug-in out there, for the home screen that when flicked right or left, would move the whole "main" home menu off screen and bring up a new menu(slides in from the approate direction?). Run up and down with in that new menu, then flick again (right or left) and get yet another new menu, all of these additional menu sets either preset or set up by the user. To get back to the home screen, maybe a soft Home key or just wait a few seconds and the software shifts back to Home?
Something to ponder, talk amongst your selves.

Thats a great idea, although not really suited for me and it would be extremely annoying to an extent. Because when you scroll with your thumb up/down you move slightly to the left or right.. that would trigger it and annoy most if not all people.
I'm sure a range of some kind could be set up that would recognize what's meant to be up-down Vs. left-right. Already see it with most of the fields on the home screen. I just saw it as a way to keep the start menu programs "in theme" while not extending the home screen to some crazy length.
i was thinking the same thing.. for the start menu i think it can be done since ifonz and iphone today are similar to this type of a menu. It would be pretty useful or another option would be to get rid of the bouncy option and instead when u scroll the other way, it should show the icons from the bottom of the list.
what do u think?
When home button is tapped it brings you to the last panel/screen you have until you have more then 4 of them, after that it will bring you to the 4th one if you tap home screen when already in the home screen. I think there should be a way to assign any screen as a default one but I couldn't find how.
Launcher Pro can do it. Of course if you like using the Touch Wiz interface it wouldn't work.
Preferences > Home Screen Settings > Default Screen
I like TW, so no way to do it in TW... that's a shame
Found this after looking through the tips thread. I like touchwiz too, too bad this can't be changed.
seriosuly this sucks, i want 3 screens, and the middle one (#2) to be the home but it always brings me to #3. annoying.
I was just reading about webOS and how good its interface is when dealing with multi-tasking and I realised how poor androids multi-tasking interface is. The only way I know to switch between running apps is to hold home button for a few seconds...
I personally think this can be improved by having thumbnails of open apps popup when the home button is single pressed on a home screen. Just as at the moment previews of all the home screens popup I think this should be switched with open app previews. I rarely ever use the home screen preview thing so i think its wasted, but I definitely would use app selector if little thumbnails showed.
Anybody have any thoughts on this? Im not a developer so I have no idea if this is possible but I think it would be a good feature to add and improve android. Do any devs think they can implement this??
Moved to general as not ROM development.
This would be a feature for a launcher app, so might be worth suggesting to someone like Fede who develops Launcher Pro, or cyanogenmod people that make ADW?
yes you are right. thanks. I was too lazy to find the relevant section to post under. will try contacting anderweb. or fede.
There are a couple of apps which overlays a screen on top of the current app you are in by tapping home twice, you can then open apps/access widgets without having to go back to homescreen first.
Currently im using 'smart taskbar', you can set the activation mode to be (1) tapping on a half-circle spot on either side of your screen or (2) swiping from one side to another. You can then open from a list of 5 'pinned' apps or choose from the mini apps drawer below, or click a tab called 'running' which seems the same as the current holding on home button behavior.
check out power strip. allows you to get a popup window where ever you are by doubble tapping home button (ore long press search button). there you can have quick access to widgets, shortcuts etc. really cool.

just downloaded both power strip and the one mentioned above. Will try them both out and report back on whether its what i was suggesting. Thanks for your suggestions.
hey guys , one question does the kin two got multi touch ? i mean can you press two fingers at one time and both of them register correctly?!
thanks
Depends on what you mean by multi-touch. In certain Applications you can do a multi-touch to do a multi delete by pressing the "X" that pops up..and in the browser you can pinch to zoom in/out
Can Kin Two recognize coordinates of 2 fingers?
Real dulatouch...
Is there another way to do pinch zoom in/out?
Also, you can do this in the Camera App as well (both when taking a picture and viewing it later).
I assume that for the Kin to understand the pinch gesture, it has to recognize two fingers and their coordinates so that it can tell whether they are moving closer together or further apart.
One other example of multi-finger gestures on the Kin is that to configure your home screen apps or your favorites in the browser app, you do a two-finger tap to get into the arrange/delete mode and then two finger tap again when you are done moving & removing items.

The hardware can handle multiple touchscreen input at the same time. The software is limited though, in how it interprets that input. You can "two finger tap" the home page to rearrange the icons, pinch-zoom on pictures, webpages, etc.
I'm not saying it would ever happen, but IF the device were to have a fully multi-touch aware OS, like Android and its Apps, then it could handle the input properly.
