Make Sprint & HTC aware. - EVO 4G General

It seems that everyone is doing their part in getting some sort of response from Sprint and HTC. Im preparing a *nicely* worded email expressing my many concerns. I will be trying to compile a list of users that are also having issues and attach this in the email. I will be letting both companies know that we are disappointed/displeased in build quality and and handicap of phone. We now know the fps issue is directly correlated to hardware, hdmi output. Meaning there is nothing we can do and definitely nothing HTC is willing to do. I truly believe Sprint should have demanded more from HTC as a major retailer. This is directly affecting their pockets. New customers like myself have and are considering cancelling our contract before its too late. I myself love the phone and find it hard to swallow the fact that I might have to set it free. I am a brand new customer that came over from AT&T to buy the HTC EVO 4G.
I have been mostly happy with the phone, but very unhappy about the 30 FPS cap on the graphics ... the Nexus One runs on the same hardware and is able to push 60FPS or more. To add insult to injury, my EVO's screen is starting to separate at the bottom of the device, which means I am going to have to either return it or exchange it for a new EVO prior to the 30 day limit. At first I was content to just exchange my EVO for a new one, but here are my concerns:
1. Are these problems going to be fixed? If I get a new EVO, will HTC/Sprint ever fix the graphics problem? Will I have another instance of hardware failure (screen separation)? Further reading on this topic here: (links removed due to XDA policy)
2. I bought and paid about $30 to have a ZAGG shield installed on the face of the EVO (lifetime warranty permanent screen protector) ... if I exchange my EVO, there is another $30 I am paying. What happens if I keep having hardware failures? Do I have to pay $30 each time to have my ZAGG shield replaced? Unacceptable!
3. Screen Responsiveness - The top part of my EVO is not very responsive, possibly due to a improperly grounded screen. Yet another reason I have to return it. Unfortunately, there are none in my area so I have to wait until they come in. Will the new one have the same problems?
4. WiFi strength on the EVO is lackluster at best. More reading here: (Link removed due to XDA policy)
5. Evo 4G is the first 4G phone - too bad you can hardly ever get 4G reception and when you do, the speed is not nearly what Sprint has advertised. This is not a dealbreaker because this phone has so many great qualities, but the speed tests that I and others have done show that the speed on the 4G is not that great, not even better than AT&T's iPhone 3GS speeds much of the time. Very sad.
I would like to say I am going to be a loyal Sprint and HTC customer for many years, but with all these issues I am seriously considering returning my phone and cancelling my service within the 30 day window.
Can you help me understand how these problems will be fixed? What is your time frame for fixing them? Are the Sprint and HTC teams even aware of these issues and are you looking into them? I have found I love Android phones now, but I can just as easily cancel my contract and move to T-Mobile who supports a wide variety of Android phones (Nexus One, anyone?). Please help me understand why it is best to stay with Sprint and HTC. I *want* to be a loyal customer, but I need to know that my concerns are being heard and addressed.

Thanks ... I tried to keep it as positive as I could. I have had pretty good luck getting things accomplished with EECB's that are positive. (I recently had my Dell XPS m1730 repaired out of warranty after I aired my concerns to Dell)
I hope we can find a resolution. The EVO is a GREAT phone plagued by a few problems that hopefully can be resolved one way or another.
Edit: Perhaps if some other forum members would like to write up their own letters and send them, maybe we can get some movement on this.
Pull your ZAGG screen off and then get a warranty replacement for $5 shipping. They replace it free if you replace your device.
Thank you for that tip about the ZAGG shield - I was not aware of that... I will have to wait until the last second though to make sure I actually get a new EVO from Radio Shack

My only complaint is the serious lack of WIFI, and even when i do have it the speeds are terrible. also 4g isn;t official in my area but i get it sometimes 1 or 2 bars max (only in 1 spot outside my house its kinda odd). The speeds are hitting close to 4mbps for me. I hope they finish installing 4g in the boston area.

Like many other potential smartphone customers, I've been looking forward to the release of the HTC EVO 4G. I've been using prepaid phones for too long and had myself set on finally becoming a Sprint customer with an EVO.
As someone who was lucky enough to get an EVO from Google I/O this year, I've been using the phone for the past three weeks or so. While the phone has almost lived up to my expectations, there is one major flaw that I find unacceptable: the artificial graphics performance cap on the phone.
At Google I/O, Google and their partners showed off many different Android phones, both new and old. Most of the higher-end phones, including HTC's own Nexus One, have great performance. Games run speedily and smoothly and the interface positively flows. That, however, is not the case with the EVO. The EVO, even with its top of the line hardware, is artificially capped at rendering 30 frames per second. I find this very unfortunate, as a side by side comparison between the Nexus One, EVO, and iPhone will show that the Nexus and iPhone run their respective UIs and games much more smoothly than the EVO. I expected 3D performance to be a selling point with such a gorgeous phone—I guess not.
I, along with many others, have contacted HTC about this issue. HTC's official line is that the 30 FPS cap was intended to "improve battery life" and they have no plans to change this. While this is disappointing, it is HTC's right to build their firmware how they want. However, I ask HTC: please make this fact more public. This cap was a rude surprise to developers and has made many of them unhappy, even leading to some phone returns, as evidenced by the discussion on prominent phone dev boards: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=620. (I've come close to wanting a refund—but my phone was free, so I have no hard feelings.)
In addition, I'd like to ask HTC to expedite the release of your Android kernel source so that developers like me can remove this cap. I'm sure many others will do the same, even if it does void their warranty and is not officially supported. It would be nice to have a phone that actually works as advertised.
HTC makes good phones; there's no reason to artificially limit the EVO from becoming HTC's best.

On another note, I have been reading about what may be Sprint's 2nd 4G phone, the Samsung Galaxy S Pro... I am thinking of returning my EVO and waiting for the Galaxy to drop... too many problems with the EVO. The sad thing is I have to do it within the 30 day money back timeframe, so I am quickly going to be coming up on a hard stop.... ARGH!

Update on current issues(FPS and Screen) with the EVO. (Email from HTC)

I just got a response from HTC regarding an email that I sent that had to do with pretty much all of the EVO's issues, grounded screen, fps, etc. I'd like to attach the email, however their is a confidentiality Note at the end of it stating that I could get into some legal trouble if I share it with others...Not exactly sure how that works, but I don't want any problems so i'll just sum up what was said.
Regarding the screen issues, I was told that they are under investigation and changes have been made and they are researching any other changes that may be necessary. He said they do have software updates coming out soon but he couldn't specify the exact date... so from all this I assume that within the next month or so all screen issues will be resolved. Their will be an update that takes care of the grounding issues and newer model EVOs wont have issues with the screen coming out of place..
Anybody holding out on the EVO because of its screen problems just wait a month and most likely it will be good.
As for the FPS cap, all he did was confirm that it was a hardware limitation and that they are aware that it has an impact on gaming performance. However, he also stated that they have reports of the FPS rate causing sluggish screen responses (which in all honesty, it doesn't) but they haven't been able to replicate....He did't address as to whether or not any changes would be made or not..
I think that it is finally safe to say beyond a reasonable doubt that the fps cap is hardware related, no more need to waste time over whether it is or isn't. I don't know much about phone development, so i'm not sure if you can remove the cap if it's hardware related, but I assume since HTC was testing to see if it had any effect on the overall performance of the device and since they were trying to replicate any issues the cap might have caused, then that might be a signal that it is fixable. Why would they even worry about it otherwise?
I just wanted to update you all because I know a lot of EVO users have been having numerous concerns. I started a new thread because all of the previous ones are becoming to overcrowded with egomaniacs.

P.S the email that I received actually seemed to be very genuine and wasn't nearly as generic as most of the previous emails many of us have been receiving.

Dude, no. We won't know for sure until more research is done and the kernel source is released. Everything else is pure speculation.
As for the responses, you apparently got the same canned responses people have been getting on the other thread. I'm not sure if creating a whole new thread for this was necessary.
well the person I emailed was the HTC product support manager and he and htc in general have no reason to lie about it being a hardware issue. It doesn't save nor create any extra hassle for them if they lie to us. We are their customers and the EVO is their product, they know it best... So being that THEY HAVE NO REASON TO LIE TO US, we can conclude what both sprint and HTC managers have told us about the cap is true...
and I didn't post this thread to necessarily be a replacement for the other, I just wanted a fresh start so I people could avoid reading through all of the useless bickering and get updated.
No hostility is necessary, I was just simply trying to do the members of this forum a favor.

Um, yeah they could lie... And have a really good reason to. Imagine if they told you it was a software issue, would you back off? But your willing to back off if it is a hardware limitation.
HTC has lied to us before. I want to say Mogul with the GPS chip, but I don't remember which phone it was. So many ROMs and phones ago..

There's a law requiring them to release a kernal source? Considering how out of touch the legal system is with technology, I can't imagine that.
This sucks if it is hardware though. It doesn't explain the 60fps boot-up stuff though, usually hardware is hardware, if it can do 60fps at all, it should be able to do it within the OS with the proper drivers/etc.
It's just like the AT&T Tilt when they claimed the phone didn't have the "hardware" to do the 3d. When it turned out (if I recall) they were just too cheap to buy the drivers from Broadcom and co.
I can't help but think that maybe this is a hold-back feature (limiting 3d gaming) simply so they can release an almost identical phone (different shell, model. carrier?) 6 months down the road as "new" without doing much R&D on it. It's a tactic that Apple has thrived with for years on their iPhone.

Short answer: Yes. Many companies have successfully been sued for millions for not complying with the GPL license. This isn't much of a "technology" issue as it is a licensing issue.

Yeah- When Sprint first released the Mogul (PPC-6800), they said the GPS would not be available for use. The Internal GPS was locked blah blah blah, then HTC released a firmware that unlocked the GPS along with Rev A and other stuff.

Yes, they agreed to the GPL by using the linux kernel. Nowhere in the GPL does it say 'you can release your modified source whenever you feel like it, as long as you do it EVENTUALLY.' HTC is violating the GPL every second that the kernel source remains unreleased.
Also, this whole hardware/software based cap issue is tending to be rather heated. People just need to chill. It all boils down to, noone has any proof that it is either hardware or software based.
There are many interpretations from that HTC email that you talked about in the OP. My personal interpretation is that there was a hardware limitation that caused them to create a software based cap on the framerate. Which would still imply that it was a hardware limitation, but the only solution they could come up with at the time was to cap the framerate. Now I could be wrong, but that is how I take the vagueness of their responses.
Keep in mind too, these are their customer service emails. They aren't going to go into detail with you about why they did what they did and how they did it. They are just going to try to make you feel like you got as much info as you needed to remain satisfied.

People are you flippin serious ? We overclock our hardware all the time with software . Even hardware ( the screen) has software. We just need the kernel source and asop Rom. We overdrive our lcd's from 60 to 75 and even 90fps on laptops. Iam sure we will drain battery and gain more heat.
The Droid Incredible is the same hardware minus the different screen and it does not have that issue. The cpu/gpu is the same. So the screen is the only thing it could be hardware and there is no way they put a 30hz screen. If the screen was 30hz they would have to put a software cap on the gpu to lock it at 30fps to match the screen. Then why if thats the case are some people getting higher then 30fps when the screen is off? It should always be at 30fps no matter what. I think they put a software cap to save battery and they got caught with their pants down. I bet they didnt think people would find out so quick and was hoping this would give them time to fix battery life issues. I read somewhere that 4g is a tack on patch on 2.1 and the 4g isn't really supported until 2.2 (Froyo). Thats kinda why 4g eats the battery so bad.
The only other thing it could be is because of the Hdmi, i will go into that one later.

Exactly, we get engadget, etc to cover the 30fps cap but there is very little coverage on the GPL violations. We won't get any straight answers on these issues until the source is released, that is what we should be pushing for.
Oh well... I just gave you guys my interpretation on the situation. Everybody has their two cents and thats fine, lets just all agree to disagree... If the devs here have been busting their ass's to fix the cap and have got nothing, then thats just more proof that it is a hardware cap...
In the end it won't matter I suppose. when htc releases the kernel, regardless if its a software or hardware cap, we should be able to fix it.
We should all just wait it out and see what happens. The phone hasn't even been out for a month. Patience is a virtue I suppose...
It's getting pretty obvious that it's a hardware cap. With that said, why on earth would they do a hardware cap just for hdmi when most people will never even use it once? It's not like we'll use hdmi every minute of every day. Bad decision on HTC's part. "Hey, let's take away 50% of the graphics power and put it into hdmi, even though people won't use it everyday or even ever."
Sorry but as a programmer/developer I'm not happy with this, do you know how much code we'd have to add/change for a gimped EVO? I planned on developing some apps for android, but now I have to make special versions for the evo because of hardware fps caps... or I could just say "Because of hardware fps issues, it doesn't work with EVO, sorry EVO users!" I'm definitely not gonna program all my games and graphics applications to run at 30fps when everyone is running at 60fps, except the gimped EVO.
I'll be exploring other options like the droid x, droid 2, galaxy s.

The phone has been out for two weeks. Lack of development on something we need the source code on to fix means jack ****.
Many device have too wait longer just for root much less anything significant.

The Class Action is great, what else can we do?

As someone else said, imagine what would happen if the iPhone's GPS didnt work, so why is Android held to a lower standard? Why are we supposed to accept whatever we are given, regardless of what we are promised? The SGS and iPhone 4 cost about the same amount, but we, as Android owners are supposed to just be grateful for anything that we get even when its less than promised?Samsung is already "rumored" to be planning our phone's successor. Thats bull****, we dont deserve to be treated like this. I love the Class Action Suit, but does anyone have any other creative ideas to not only help out current SGS owners but also ruin possible SGS 4G prospects? Samsung needs to be taught that we wont just be grateful for whatever we get, we demand what we are promised, we demand what we pay for; this is only reasonable.
A company should at least have some concern for their consumers, even if its barely recognizable. Samsung left us with a broken device we paid handsomely for, they have 0 concern for us. So I pray to whoever is listening up there that the SGS 4G fails miserably. If I knew how, Id make and circulate a Facebook page with just a couple of sentences outlining the case against Samsung. Even those who dont know much about Android would pay attention to a facebook page saying Samsung has ripped off SGS consumers, so avoid any Samsung phone at all costs, there are plenty of great alternatives. Maybe there is a more effective avenue, maybe we could even pursue multiple avenues. The goal is to bring attention to the shortcomings of the SGS we currently have, it deserves Samsung's attention. And now is the time, while the class action is getting attention, lets pile it on. Im happy to do what I can, im just not sure what to do. Any ideas?

Well, debut day of Vibrant 4G or Successor is coming up. There will be people showing up to buy them. They will be watching its debut day. There will also be press and reviewers about its debut. Thus, if you have a crew of buddies willing to help you out in boycotting their Vibrant 4G or any of the coming Galaxy S product with picket signs and banners for in front of the local stores with drums and horns. Have your buddies call up local news and it will make it to some news since people will wonder what is going on... Resist if they give you and your buddies Vibrant 4G to shut you guys up. Too bad we just missed the CES. With all those press there, that would have been perfect! We need to organize into big group to do this more effectively even if lawsuit takes forever.
This will get them to know how angry we are about this "Froyogate"
Also, maybe somebody needs to make a boycott app for ALL Galaxy S product.

Corporations want to maximize their profits, both for themselves and their shareholders. Thus, this shouldn't come as a surprise.
A tipster has come forward and said that Samsung is holding back the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update from the T-Mobile Vibrant (Samsung Galaxy S variant) because they are afraid that such an update will impact sales of their upcoming Samsung Vibrant 4G Plus.
Reportedly, the new device is little different than the original Vibrant. In addition to the original Vibrant, the Vibrant 4G Plus has a front-facing camera, Android 2.2, and HSDPA+ 21 support.
Here's what the tipster said:
Some disturbing things have happened the last week or so concerning our “Vibrant”. Samsung has NOT allowed us to push the update OTA for 2.2 because they feel it will decrease the value of the upcoming Vibrant4G +. Furthermore, if Froyo works in "Vibrant 4G" - another product of Vibrant, this means it should be already for distribution for the Vibrant 3G version with minor changes.
I like the sound of all of this. I can't stand the idea that samsung suffers no repercussions for selling so many broken phones. Froyo or no froyo, the phones gps is broken, samsung shouldn't have the option to not fix it, it's INSANE
I thought that if you demonstrate to T-Mobile that the official Samsung GPS Tool fails, they would consider it defective and send for a replacement. Don't crucify me if I'm wrong, I haven't dealt with either companies.
My Samsung Vibrant came hardware locked, with faulty GPS. Samsung told me it wasn't there problem (no warranty because I brought it into Canada without an "international warranty"). So what have I learned from all of this? I won't be purchasing a Samsung phone again. They've lost a customer. I vote with my wallet, not by signing some e-petition, or joining a Facebook group.
Do you really think a class action would change anything? Even if you are successful, you'll probably just get a credit towards your next Samsung purchase, or a refund on the cost of the GPS chip.
Let them know how you feel, and that you won't purchase any of their products in the future, and will be advising friends/family to do the same. kobesabi has outlined some great ways to let them know.

I understand your feelings. And I think most people in here is of the mindset that we can fix our phones better than Samsung. What is going on here is a movement towards holding Samsung to their promises. They are in the OHA and therefor are legally bound to release the Source Code for the Vibrant. The second thing is that they promised multiple times throughout the last year that they would release Froyo to the US Galaxy S phones, and they didn't. If you vote by your wallet that is OK. How much do you spend on buying a new phone? With the current pricing around $500 without contract. If one person doesn't give Samsung their $500, Samsung doesn't care. If all the people on XDA doesn't give them $500, Samsung still won't care. However if we can get enough people to realize that Samsung is not a good company to buy from as they have TERRIBLE software support for their phones, if we could get 100,000 people at first, that is $50 million, which is still just a drop in the bucket for them, but that is surely more painful than $500. This is to try to make Samsung take responsibility for their products.
Agreed, Samsung should be held to the agreements made regarding their source code. I also agree that people should be informed Samsung as a company, and their poor customer relation choices.

A company should at least have some concern for their consumers, even if its barely recognizable. Samsung left us with a broken device we paid handsomely for, they have 0 concern for us. So I pray to whoever is listening up there that the SGS 4G fails miserably. If I knew how, Id make and circulate a Facebook page with just a couple of sentences outlining the case against Samsung. Even those who dont know much about Android would pay attention to a facebook page saying Samsung has ripped off SGS consumers, so avoid any Samsung phone at all costs, there are plenty of great alternatives. Maybe there is a more effective avenue, maybe we could even pursue multiple avenues. The goal is to bring attention to the shortcomings of the SGS we currently have, it deserves Samsung's attention. And now is the time, while the class action is getting attention, lets pile it on. Im happy to do what I can, im just not sure what to do. Any ideas?

Here's one more thing we can do:
Post bad reviews of Samsung Galaxy phones on all online retailer web sites that sell them. Got an Amazon account? Post feedback there and drive this phone's rating down it gets Samsung's attention and warns potential buyers about buying a product that they will most likely be dissatisfied with once they realize that GPS is marginally functional and that it's running now outdated version of Android with no update in sight. Do the same on Tiger Direct, NewEgg and whoever else sells this phone.
Collectively we can definitely make Samsung take notice.

I love the facebook idea, we can have a vote "buy from samsung again, yes/no"...set that up and lets start a movement and make other consumers aware of what samsung had done.
Lot of good ideas here, maybe op can update with an organized list. I registered at scam and tipoff report so I'll start or add to samsung complaints, and th facebook thing sounds great. Let's keep it up

No pay day yet. This is Sammy's way of confessing they have been trying to do it their way instead of please the customer for too long.
It still remains to be seen what they actually DO about it.

The bottom line is until sammy gets the carriers in line, and froyo gets released before its 1st birthday! People will rant with good reason. Btw gingerbread has been out for like 3 months! We have a top of the line device running an os from 2009. Honestly I love the hardware but I can't handle this bad os support.

Whoever even buys another Samsung flagship phone with the belief that they learned their lesson deserves what they are going to get and shouldn't complain anymore. If you haven't realized what their intent is, which is maximum profit with the least effort, while actually making it seem like they kind of care with PR rep's that promise things that they cant' actually commit to. My friend asked me what phone he should buy, and looked at the Galaxy S2 and the Motorola Atrix. It was a no brainer which phone was the winner. Go Atrix! Pre-ordered and waiting! He was waiting for a nice dual core phone, but after the mess he has heard from me with Samsung, he said he definitely doesn't want to go through the same thing. To be honest, this crap is making me sick to my stomach just talking about anymore, cause we've all been crapped on, and it doesn't feel nice.
I'm not surprised in the least that Samsung would think that this meaningless gesture would diffuse this issue, but I'm honestly SHOCKED that "Xda leaders" would put any thought into this. I suspect they're making money off this, somehow.
This site has lost its way badly.
At least it's a start and shows Samsung at least recognizes they've pissed off some people. It's better than what they've been doing which has been a whole lot of nothing.

Honestly, this was my first Samsung phone in about ten years is so far, it's my last.
It's not the lack of Froyo, this is just a simple annoyance. What killed it is GPS that works like crap, barely functioning accelorometer, retarded hardcoded GPS accuracy refusal to do anything about these two issues. I have a bad feeling that the last bug isn't a bug at all, but an attempt to cover up poorly functioning GPS on this phone. If I was Colbert, I'd wag my finger at them.

Samsung unfortunately is still working on the feature-phone timelines. What they (and most other android phone makers, with the possible exception of HTC) seem to not quite understand is that these smartphones are true computers now, and need to be treated as such. The OS is an integral part of phone, perhaps the most important part, and people will not tolerate a company that refuses to update an OS that both has critical bugs (and yes, the GPS bug is a CRITICAL bug), and appears incapable of utilizing the hardware it's surrounded by. It's like Microsoft refusing to repair a Windows bug that kept all printers only printing in black and white. It's almost worse that the hardware is so good, and is being crippled by a poorly customized OS (like tantalus, nearby but unreachable relief is far worse than no possibility of relief at all).
It's going to take a really big step to mollify those that have been burned by this generation of samsung's smartphones. Samsung, if your listening. You've pissed off many of your most important phone buyers. These are the people who less tech-savvy people ask for advice on phones, and for every 1 XDA member offended by your apparent lack of desire to properly support your equipment, you probably lose at least 10 referral sales to companies like HTC.
My recommendation, at least open the source code for the devs to look at, and if you're having software quality problems (and that's the reason you can't get froyo out the door), invite some of the best devs to take a look at the proprietary modules that you're having problems with. Work with the community and you may maintain some degree of support for your next generation of phones. But keep trying to astroturf them, or worse yet, pull a Behold 2 on them, and watch out as your current market lead could easily change next generation.

The thing with Eric Lin is that even when he first "introduced" himself to the community at large for I believe it was pocketnow he came off as a very abrasive and quite negative representative for HTC (and that was in 2009). In terms of PR he was a bad move by the company...In that it doesn't shock me in the least that he is a very outspoken critic of HTC America.
Even speaking with him at some of the live events he's still extremely abrasive...he's a really bad spokesperson for even a company performing well

So either he was really good at his job and HTC decided to overlook his personality traits or, since he was at HTC for four years, HTC's incompetent for allowing such a key position to be filled with someone not up to the task.

Their basing their conclusion on HTC's guidance for Q2 2013 which is below (by 21%) what they actually achieved in Q2 2012 with the X/S/V and that at this point last year their stock price is 33% lower with the One on the market than when the X/S/V were on the market for the same amount of time. I was hoping for HTC's sake that today's big Verizon announcment was that they'd be carrying the One. It turned out to be a partnership with Jennifer Lopez aimed at the U.S. Latin market.

You really don't like HTC at all Barry, do you? Never see you saying anything good about them and always praising Samsung like they have no faults at all and any problems that they do have, you seem to brush them under the carpet like they are non-issues i.e. the screen issues yet when it comes to HTC and a minor problem, it is just an outrage and that this will severely hurt the company according to you......
Regarding this "shake up", just because people have left the company doesn't neccasrily mean that the company is going down, as posted by one of them and an article, it sounds like they weren't happy working at HTC....... how that relates to "the end of HTC", please explain......... besides, it might be a good thing as posted, their marketing is crap (much better this year but still not good enough to match Samsung) and this is one of the most important areas as to if a product will do well combined with sales commissions, Samsung know fine well how it important it is, otherwise they wouldn't be throwing such a stupid amount of money at that department let alone increasing it substantially each year, that is largely why they are so popular and sell so many units as has been proven even if a product gets better reviews and is better overall and is preferred by the majority of users across forums/polls etc. Looking at both devices the other day, HTC one shoved with all the other devices where as the galaxy s4 has its very own stand and the device isn't clamped down anywhere as much and you even have a wee display notice beside the phone saying something like "call for assistance to demonstrate the features" and everywhere you look, you just see GS 4 posters.... this is where HTC and other companies fail big time and is what cost them their sales, X company could have the very best product by miles, however, what is the point if you have Y company that has a device, which isn't as good but are paying/bribing the shops more in order (more than other companies) to push their devices onto the customers?? In that situation, what do you think is going to appeal to the average joe customer more....
Plus HTC need to branch out to more market areas in order to create more brand presence as at the minute, average joes probably view HTC like what we view ZTE etc.
The GS 4 is not the best selling phone purely because of the SD slot and/or removable battery and/or its software gimmicks/features (maybe it is for the likes of most of the people on this forum but not for the mass consumer i.e. average joes and you can quite clearly see this isn't the case as apple aren't having problems with their iphones and sales.....) or/and because it is free of faults (how many note II and GS 3 devices died last year from the sudden death issue?? Surely that would leave a bad taste??? Not to mention when it took Samsung so long to admit that there was a problem let alone fix it.....EDIT: Oh and their awful repair service too! Blaming it on water damage......), GS 4 has more serious issues compared to the one currently i.e. over heating, poor performance in real world usage, screen issues (be it pink/purple tint, red pixels, screen glass or/and AMOLED breaking/cracking with slight pressure), audio issues etc. The one's issues are mainly cosmetic and some aren't even "issues" i.e. that tiny tiny gap at the top/bottom which doesn't even measure in at 1mm can hardly be consider an issue since it normal as the speaker covers aren't part of the zero gap body, if that is consider an issue then every single phone has that issue especially the GS 4, check the camera lens area and back cover parts:

Heck Samsung could have just released the exact same phone as the GS 3 but with that 1080P screen and they would have still have sold the same amount as what they currently have with the GS 4.
It is just like everything these days especially the game and film industry, you hype and market the **** out of the stuff, they sell millions, however, be bloody awful, you then have your GOTY and film of the year that doesn't sell as well due to the lack of marketing.

Anyway, back on topic, as I was saying, this could be a good thing, getting new and better people in to carry out those jobs and get some fresh ideas.
Sounds like the CEO needs to go as well......
