I'm using Panorama MoTweets now so would like to remove
HTC's Peep completely from my phone,
could someone hold my hand and talk me thru the process please ?
Anyone ?
Surely others have removed this largely useless App ?
As its one of the apps shipped with the phone (or bloatware) its not as simple as just uninstalling it...........
You could just go into the appropriate folder and delete all the files.................
And relevant registry entries.........................
(I wouldnt advise that though........).
Or you could flash a custom ROM that has things such as peep stripped out.......
Hope that helps......
Thanx mate,I realised it was set pretty deep within
the system that's why I asked for a step by step guide,I'm unsure
which steps to take and in which order.
I can't help you with that I'm afraid.....
I've not removed it myself..... sorry.
why remove it why not just turn the tab off and sign out of it?
Well that was easy thanx Demon_man,nice simple fix.
Would still like to explore complete removal and free up some more Device memory.
remove un-used ringtones, message tones, wallpapers, animated wallpapers, clear cache

I intend to roll out the htc hd 2 to my staff however I don't them to be messing with social apps that comes with... Is there any chance these apps can be removed?
be a nice boss.. let them keep the apps.. i'm sure they would be responsible enough to play it only on their breaks....lol
but yea.. there is no way..... technically... lol... if you download a registry editor.. you can remove the file shortcut and all other associated files.. to remove from the phone's memory... but even if your employee's aren't the "brightest"... it wouldn't take a full fledged developer to know that all you would have to do.. is perform a hard reset on the phone and "voila" apps have reappeared...
lol so yea.. in other words.. NO there is no way to remove those apps considering that they are embedded into the rom...
i guess you could flash a custom rom that doesn't have those apps installed.. but i'm pretty confident that no one is offering a custom rom like that... now you can always become a "cehf" and create your own custom rom.. but then it gets to the point where "common sense" starts kicking in... and you kinda realize that removing the apps is way more trouble and time consuming as opposed to just "trusting" your own employees to be responsible....(not quite sure why you wouldn't have responsible employees.... right??.... )
so yea.. in conclusion.. just be a nice guy/boss and give them the hd2 in its full working stock condition... just tell them that you don't want them on the apps during work hours... i think that's easier.. but yea.. sorry for not exactly helping your situation or what you asked.. ..
the problem with removing them is they can be just installed again lol, i guess you could just not let them have data connections, or just trust them and say it will be taken off you if you get caught on them
Hi there,
I have been using htc hd2 for nearly 6 months now and have installed:
cookies home tab editor 1.85
few apps like g alarm, sky browser, torch and a carrera watch
Trouble is my fone keeps crashing and its annoying the hell out me
Can you guys work with me to figure out why? Like can I post something on here that will enable you to figure out why it is happens?
It just keeps freezing and I have to take the battery out and put it back to get rid of the problem, its so annoying...
So any help and advise would be appreciated
Many thanks
P.S. Trouble is whilst I am happy with the way my fone looks now i.e. the wallpaper, the carerra watch , I am certainly not happy with the freezing so how do I avoid this? Please I'm desperate - thanks in advance..
no support?
no assistance?
can somebody please help
I'm assuming you're using stock rom?
I have the same problem with CHT 1.85,; i use the new Energy Rom and the built-in version. Try to use the standard lockscreen, this was for me a help to get less crashes. I think it depends to CHT and some manila versions.
If you want to flash a new rom, here are many threads that will help you.
Yep I am using the stock rom
So are you saying my problem is because of the CHT editor 1.85 I am using?
Should I remove it in that case?
Do you think I should change to the energy ROM?
I just do not want my HTC HD2 phone to crash, it is so annoying - having said that I enjoy the features CHT editor 1.85 provides is there an alternative?
Please help me before I restore to factory settings
Thank you
Your problem looks al lot like thism posted on 27th of august. (If you could read dutch)

Have you ever experienced crashes / black screen when switched on or spontaneously restart HTC HTC Sense on HD2? Here is what I call the most important tips that can help the HD2 of his problems to help:
Note: If you have no problems of course you do not have to. But there appear regularly posts from frustrated people who just seem to have problems. Especially for them, it is intended, although the tips can help anyway HTC HD2 less taxing and therefore easier to react.
The cause of the problems related to self-Sense, which obviously does not run well on any machine. In particular, the background activities of Sense (Data services, weather, etc.) could be "sensitive equipment" for problems.
HTC Sense off is a rigorous but effective solution (Settings, Menu, More, Today, Items, uncheck Hide HTC Sense).
A Sense replacement as SPB Mobile Shell can provide a solution when the interface of Windows Mobile will not (and are most of us, right?).
Sense if you still want to keep using these tips will be given from the trouble:
• Remove sites that you do not need from the Weather application, so the phone in the background is less active (Tap the Clock Sense, Menu, delete Cities)
• Switch to reason that data services that you do not need, such as shares, Twitter and Facebook, in Settings, Data Services.
• Put in Settings / Locations continuously collect location data from
• Remove old SMS permanently (usually first removed and then permanently removed from the SMS application, Menu, Deleted Items, Menu, Clear).
Also keep in mind that if you install third party software, such phenomena also occur (the latest version of Co0kies Home Tab -1.8.5 - notorious example is when you turn it to lock screen). Even then these tips may help, but it will be clear that this is not saving can be when there are errors in the software are installed.
One that opinion is outside the scope of this article, installing a custom ROM. I mention it for completeness, but I'm not a fan of a solution that precisely because the category is third-party software. The experiences are varied, and the popular ROMs appear at every turn to new versions to fix bugs. There is a risk that you're digging a hole to the other gap. But who is desperate ....

Not sure what style lock screen my android install uses but it's the one like a rainbow shape that you drag downwards and it's awful as I keep finding the phone unlocked when I take it out of my pocket.
I'd like to change the lockscreen to either what I think is the Frodo one (sideways sliding icons for lock and volume/speaker mode?), or the X10 one which is like quarter circle swipe.
Is there some app (free ideally!) that will let me do this or a manual way I can do it if there's a source for necessary files (without too much grief).
I read that if I delete the htclockscreen.apk file then the phone will revert to the froyo one (as I use a froyo build), but when I try that with a file manager I can't delete the file - presume it's a permissions thing or something?
Thanks for any help!
ETA that most lock related apps I see in the market seem to relate to disabling locks rather than anything to change the one you already have.
Forgot to say I'm trying out Lockbot at the moment and it sort of works but it seems a little hit & miss.
In particular when you unlock the phone and it normally makes that little click sound (if you haven't turned that off of course), it sounds more like a machine gun before the lock screen comes on, and that worries me a little bit that there's something not right going on.
You could try a-lock from the Market, which is somewhat like S2U2
You could flash a cyanogenmod rom like this onetycoon cm7 comes with 4 different lockscreens ..or try simply lockscreen from the market..
Had the same issue of phone unlocking with the "arch style locker" so bought widget locker, which works perfect, it allows you to have different styles of lock screen & add widgets, cost next to nothing, I'd recommend it.
www.appbrain.com/app/widgetlocker-lockscreen/com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker
But if you really don't want to pay for a lock screen, I've attached a different lockscreen for you to try.
Worked fine for me before I bought WL, see my sig for rom, but as always when changing system files, use at your own risk, tho there shouldnt be a problem.
The LS with 2 circles was extracted from a htc dhd build (free), the other pic is WLocker (paid)
Try if you like... don't try if you like, just an option
I feel CM7 may be your best shot, I use and love it! Very easy to customize.

Thanks for the replies dudes.
Will have a look at A-lock. And Simply Lockscreen (or did you mean it's simply called 'Lockscreen'?). Not being facetious there - just clarifying!
Kam333 - thanks for that file mate. Will check it out definitely.
I am now trying Wlocker as Lockbot was too erratic. Wlocker seems to be ok so I might end up buying it but I like to try out options first before deciding.
That Rom is tempting too I must admit but the bit about the high drain on BT standby concerns me a bit as I leave BT on all the time.
Decisions eh! But I appreciate all the suggestions, thanks.
Not sure how to use your one Kam - when I run an installer against the apk file it only gives be an option to UNinstall it, which I guess means it just maybe has the same name as the existing one. Am assuming once an uninstall is successful then it will allow me to install it, but why won't it let me remove the other one first?
I've tried that but it failed. Similar problem to not being able to delete the standard apk file from its directory either.
Hey
You need to push the 2 files to your system folder,
For the build I'm using, I placed the files in a folder [DL_update/root/system/app]
This goes on the root of your sd card then reboot,
You should check on your build thread for the name/path of the folder "dl_update" is specific to the build I'm using, the rest should be the same tho.
If you have any probs let me know.
Kam
Thanks - have tried doing that but with a file manager I can copy ok, but paste is not available for some reason when I try to overwrite the existing ones.
Thought I'd do it via the PC as well but that won't work as I can't see the folder structure on the phone itself, only the SD card.
I'm now trying Lock 2.0 which 'would' be great except that when locked, you can use the hard keys (home key and power key I think) to bring up menus, some of which can basically unlock the phone so despite having a better slider I still find it unlocked in my pocket, and doing stuff like trying to dial my mum while I'm having a swearing contest etc.
I can't find a menu option in the program to disable these menus but I'm sure they wouldn't have been stupid enough to make a decent lock app that is full of holes like that and couldn't be disabled?

Hey,
the lockscreen is a system file, you wont be able to modify/edit systems files without root permissions, you'll need to use a root capable explorer such as Root Explorer or ES in root mode.
or use the method in my last post.
if you view this & not logged into xda ive just pm'd you

Hey all, I'm visiting from the Evo 4G forum. I'm running Team Xron and SwampGoblin Droid X Port. I must say, I am impressed, I have heard negative things about Blur. But after using the device and the ROM, I am impressed at how it works and runs.
Back to topic, I am interested in what files/APKs are safe to remove. I am mostly interested in the System apps, but other files safe to delete would be nice too. I have experimented before, but I get occasional problems, such as when I click on a contact it closes. So I have come before the Droid X-ers for your help.
So, simply put, what files/APKs are safe to delete? I am running Gingerblur, system version 4.5.596.MB810.Verizon.en.US build number 4.5.1_57_DX5-3
Thanks ahead for the help!
To Be Honest with you, for the gingerbread update it seems that motorola incorporated everything together. I have had to SBF back to froyo about 3-4 times, because I've tried to delete a multi-tude of different native apps / system files. If you delete social stuff, it kills contacts, if you delete other items, your screen goes black and you cant do anything lol. just leave it stock untill another good rom comes out for it.
Ah well, the ROM is pretty slimmed down anyways. I just wanted to get rid of email and stuff that I don't use. Thanks for the help, root on!
It can be very frustrating to figure out which Blur apps do what.
I froze about ten of them and would later find that something like airplane mode is broken, or that adding a contact causes a force close.
I wish Motorola were straightforward about the purpose of apps. Trashing cardock shouldn't make me wonder if anything else will go missing with it.
Hello,
after going through various threads about building roms...replacing and removing applications...i found the following threads very informative-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049846
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005512
But,i'm still not clear about replacing the Dialer and the contact applications..
I want to use Gocontacts and Godialer instead of the stock ones. It would b really helpful if someone could share some information regarding what applications need to b removed if i want to do tht. Some of the applications that i think are related to it are-
Contacts.apk
ContactsProvider.apk
Phone.apk
dialertabactivity.apk
Oh C'mon guys....Nobody has any clue abt it
A little help won't hurt
You don't need to remove anything. Just install the apps and replace shortcuts.
yes i did the same...but i still have both the dialers and messaging app...now already our phone has a low internal memory and in my phone there's just 60mb of tht left...so i was thinking it might save me an extra 10mb or so
I believe that it's better to keep the stock apps in case something stops working.
Besides, the "third place" apps are stored in data partition, while stock ones in system. So deleting stock apps won't free you app space.
Yeah i searched several other threads and found that dialer apps are necessary coz of the incoming calls...and deleting them will cause instability
though the messaging app can b deleted...thanks for the reply though
