Factory Reset - Lose Root ? - Hero, G2 Touch General

I'm selling my hero to a friend, and it's rooted. If I do a factory reset to get rid of all my personal stuff/numbers, will I lost root ? or the ROMs on my SD card ?

You can just do wipe from recovery image.
AFAIK factory reset is same thing.

i did a hard rest once... and I did not loose root.
But a full wipe in recovery.. will get rid of everything too. It will reboot.. with the last ROM, but no user data or records/google account info.

Just flash the official HTC rom

Hey guys
After rooting, I have villainROM on my htc hero. When official 2.1 comes out (rooted 2.1 ROM as update.zip), can I simply use the wipe and update from zip method from my recovery to install this new 2.1 ROM?
Do I have to downgrade to 2.73.405.5 using the goldcard method?

you only had to downgrade when you rooted your device to flash a recovery image, new htc roms wont let you use flash rec to flash recoverys, when devs take official roms and root them, they take out htc newer recoverys and bootloaders so noooooooooooooooooooo u wont lol

[Q] How to get stock recovery back for rooted wildfire ?

Hello mates,
I have a rooted wildfire with Wildpuzzle ROM v2.2. My recovery image is the Clockwork Recovery.
I want to load the Stock Froyo, now that app2SD is possible without root.
(App2sd is the only reason rooted).
I tried flashing the RUUxxxxx.exe file ,but got the error cannot upgrade your phone.
I found that signing key of the custom recovery is the causing the problem and that I have to get the Stock Recovery. And only then I will be able to run the RUUxxxx.exe file for Stock Froyo 2.2.
Can anyone tell me how I can do it ?
It will be of great help if any one can share an original "recovery.img" .
Also I am having trouble with fastboot becuase I have S-ON in bootloader.
Make a gold card. Flash stock RUU. Flash 2.2 RUU. Done! Look up a guide of making goldcard on xda or modaco.

So you dont need the root anymore?
Then you should download from shipped-roms.com a WWE that is eclair run the .exe on ur pc and when its done go to (in ur phone) to the updates section and OTA upgrade to non-rooted official froyo!
(Htc Buzz:wildfire WWE is under the windows mobile section for some reason xD)

So I think my Hero is rooted...

I'm with GCI/Alaska Digitel and I used Universal Androot it said my phone was successfully rooted. Is it rooted to the point where I can flash custom ROMs?
If not, is it possible to root via another method?
And if so, is it possible to back my radio up then flash a ROM, then recover my radio?
Thanks all,
Angel
Download Rom Manager from the market. You need to install a custom recovery to flash ROMs. If it allows you to flash clockworkmod recovery, you are rooted and ready to flash.

You won't change the radio when you flash roms and such, unless you flash a radio zip. NEVER FLASH A RADIO THAT IS FOR A GSM PHONE!(not yelling just don't want you to brick your phone)
Okay so it is rooted, downloaded and did the Rootcheck or whatever. I got a couple CM7 roms but they won't boot. It just sits at the boot screen spinning, stops for a second, and then starts the CM7 boot screen over.
Ideas? Thanks all,
Angel
Well you need to wipe and format the appropriate things first. Read the readme on AOSP's mod thread.
Hey thanks, will do.
First, you need to wipe data, cache, boot and system. Do this twice and then flash the rom.

[Q] OTA updates with a rooted Desire Z

Hi,
I've previously rooted my Desire Z using the guides shown here and here
I've read that the latest HTC firmware 1.72 ROM doesn't work with this root method. I'm not sure what my current HTC firmware version is, though system settings shows that the software number is 1.34.707.5.
I've just received notification of an OTA update with the following update:
Update: Improve system performance and Camera feature enhancements 43.46 MB
I'm not running any custom ROM, still using HTC Sense, just rooted it.
If I want to apply the OTA update, I assume I need to unroot and return my phone to its original state? How do I do that?
Also, a few other questions:
Will the apps that require root access cease to work once I unroot my phone?
Will I need to uninstall these apps or will they just not work?
Is there a new method of rooting the new HTC ROM?
Thanks!
you are on 1.34 (software number is 1.34.707.5) and once you are rooted and S-OFF you can re-root after moving to 1.72
That update sounds like 1.82 however, and I am not sure if that works. I am running 1.82 rooted but I flashed the whole update from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960149 (without wiping so I didn't lose any data).
Probably would recommend you do the same!
Oh, missed some questions:
You don't need to remove root to flash an update, but the update will remove your root
and if you lose root your apps that require it just won't work. Don't have to uninstall but since they don't work, well????
Thanks! I'm a ROM noob...how do I flash that update on my rooted 1.34 ROM Desire Z?

If I were you, i'd look into getting ClockworkMod installed and flash a custom ROM that has 1.8x already prerooted for you. That way, if you ever wanted to go back to your factory rom, you have the NANDroid backup from CWM!
Have fun!
OK, I have ClockworkMod installed. Do I just download the custom ROM into my sdcard and use CWM to flash it? How do I create a NANDroid backup?

flash desire z

Does anyone know if its possible to flash the desire z without rooting the phone. If possible how
What are you trying to flash? If you're trying to flash a custom ROM, the ROMs themselves are rooted. So even if it were somehow possible to flash without prior root, you would still be rooted afterwards.
I am trying to flash a stock rom that was rooted but i accedently went in to recovery and it cant be rooted anymore by using visionary(+), x4root or the rage method. So i need to flash back to stock or need a way to flash a custom rom. If you have any ideas im willing to try anything
I believe flashing the stock ROM does not require root.
Also, are you S-Off? If so, you apparently don't need to be rooted to flash a custom ROM, if you are still S-off.

unfortunatly my phone is not s-off so i need to find another way to flash or root the device. I checkecd the thread link, But i have tryed this method.
I was wondering would the OTA update to 2.3 gingerbread be enough to reset the device to standard. So i can root the device and flash custom roms?
Thanks
I got this issue solved.
I used an original HTC ruu to flash back to stock.
This worked, And i was able to root the device and i have now been able to clock the device also

T-Mobile FOG->FOJ Root

Hey guys,
I just rooted yesterday (G900T..FOG) using the TrapKernel method and everything is working just fine. Today I got a prompt for a new security update (FOJ). I haven't installed it yet and was curious -- if I do, will that remove my root? I'm assuming yes. Say I do install it -- is there anything I can do to get back my root aside from downgrading and re-applying TrapKernel?
Secondly, would I be able to flash a rooted FOJ ROM over the top of my FOG and still keep my root or will the update from J to G ? What steps would I need to do to accomplish this other than find the ROM and flash & wipe cache/davlik. Would I be able to dirty flash this or would a full wipe be required?
Last question (for now), if I choose to flash a CM ROM like Fusion would that keep my root as well? Again, I'm pretty sure the answer is yes I just don't want to make bad things happen that could be avoided.
1. if you take the OTA, root will be lost. You will have to downgrade, root, then upgrade using a prerooted rom to get it back.
2. Prerooted stock ROMs are the way to go. Just download Muniz_ri's prerooted stock OJ4 rom and flash it, you'll update to OJ4 and keep root.

Straight from that page:
- No need to wipe, the ROM will perform a factory data reset during the flash. Backup your User Data prior to flashing.

The ROM will wipe itself, you'll need to back up your stuff before the update.
3. The vast majority of custom ROMs are prerooted. Cyanogen based ones require you to enable root in the developer settings, FYI
