One thing I really liked about the HTC Touch Pro 2 (my predecessor to the HTC HD2) was that there was a key on the corner of the keyboard for flipping the WiFi on and off. Now of course on the HD2 I have to go hunt around and find the Comm Manager to then Enable WiFi, and the darn task manager to shut down the Comm Manager once I have turned on the WiFi. And no, I don't want to have to use up a shortcut off the main screen to launch the Comm Manager...
Doesn't anyone have a quick and easy way with one click to flip the WiFi ON and then Back off? Like some kind of a one-click (or better yet key-press) toggle utility?
check out CHT 1.8
has all sorts of great toggle buttons.

The next closest solution is to use one of the existing stand-alone wifi toggle buttons, but you'd still have to give up a quicklink spot to use it, so I don't know if that's acceptable to you or not. Attached is the one I use (also gives you a reset button).
This one gives you several toggles.
On the stock ROM there's an easier method than what your using.. only 2-3 steps, and it's the same steps to turn it ON/OFF.
press the area in the top right corner of the screen (opposite side from where the start menu is)..
once in there, you're at the "Notifications" screen.... at this screen tap the icon on the right side of where is says "T-mobile Data" (where the "3g" or whatever data your on ICON is... looks like a box).
This will take you to the COMM Manager.. you can toggle on off from there...
pretty easy..
Thanks, two other thoughts, and final resolution
I did find I could create a text file which I named wifi.lnk which has only these contents and put it into the /Windows/StartMenu/Programs folder and use that as a quicklink -
46#ctlpnl.exe mycpl.cpl,7?shellres.192.dll,-13999
HOWEVER, SOMETIMES THE OLD TRIED AND TRUE IS BETTER - I JUST REINSTALLED THE GOOD OLD 'QuickMenu' (that can be downloaded from other forums here) and I am using that, take a look at the handy shortcuts it has in the attached screen snapshot (click on the picture to see a larger view).
I have always loved QuickMenu as it lets you get to one of hundreds of programs to launch it quicker than any other method I have ever seen, as well as letting you switch to other programs already ruinning - or shut all the running programs down - very quickly as well.
So, I actually not only saved a quick link spot by not having to have a link to it THE COMM MANAGER, but I also got rid of having to have a dedcated link to the task manager as well!

I have used the registry hacks to get rid of the battery icon and the wireless manager icon from the bottom tray. However, when I switch the phone to vibrate, there is still an icon there that shows up (a black rectangle with a red line around it). Is there a hack to stop that icon from showing?
I guess that is a no?
I would like to know if this is possible also.
There is a shortcut on my Hermes called 'TrayIcon_MannerMode' pointing to /Windows/TrayIcon_Mannermode.exe but nothing seems to happen when I run it.....
Think twice before you remove comm manager from there as it make boot unstable and device very slow.
This would not be a full solution, but could the icon simply be shrunk (ie. to 1 pixel tall) so that it if it was the only thing in the tray at least it would steal minimal screen real-estate ?
Mike
I was able to remove that icon by disabling TrayIcon_MannerMode from the list on the startup items. The problem is that after doing that it became impossible for me to activate the vibrate mode using the default hardware key (long press on commmgr key). If you are fine with that then perhaps you could try it.

Can you tell me where you find the list of startup items? I am not the best at this stuff.
Thanks.

Hey!
I have been searching for a way to have the homescreen upper right "dropdown menu" always there (in every app or screen) insted of the "X" which apere when in an menu or app.
Can someone clever please help me with a reg entry or small app.
Would be great as a built in task manager were you can with ease switch between apps or just close the ones you dont need with the X beside the appname!
I know you can just press homebutton to go to the homescreen and there it is but that feels sluggish and not very optimal.
And I don't wana use an other havy app like spb or so on..I like the original!
Would be much appreciated!
(sorry for bad spelling)
It's built in (at least on official rom 1.93 that I use)
start
settings
system
task manager
button
untick the first option "Enable x button to end running programs"
Tanx fro you answere.
I got the 1.93 rom and it dosent seem to change anything by doing what you told me to do.. The "X" is still there apart from when in Homescreen..
Anyone else upp for the task hehe
Of course the "x" is still there.. hays described a way to minimize the running app. So the taskmanager is not allways on (as u want it to be) but your app will be minimized and you can switch to another app.
Ok.
so there is no build in function for having the "Dropdown menu" always in the upper right corner..
But can if be done with a small piece of reg edit?
Or if someone can make a little fix for it?
Tanx in advance
I'm sorry dude but I don't know any solution for that too.
Didn't hear of any app like that, but maybe u will find one later
There are plenty of task manager applications that change the behavior of the close button.
I use SPB pocket plus, configured so that X is always close, with an improved task manager that pops up when you tap and hold X. There are plenty of other task manager programs available as I said.
the HD2 has done something strange with programs that use dropdown menus - it has replaced them with a bar.
this is fine for some apps where you can use the slider at the side of the screen in order to scroll, but where there is a small box which just drops down a short list of data for you to choose from, the bar replaces the box, stops the list dropping down and thereby disables you from using the dropdown menu.
is there any way to stop it behaving in this way and reverting to the old form of dropdown menus?
thanks

I think I know what you mean. Can you give an example of where this happens?
"a picture paints a thousand words" but unfortunately I don't have a camara with me so can't take a picture to upload (at the moment).
An example is a program which give a list of dates in a dropdown menu - on my HD, that is fine, tap the box, the list of dates drops down, and I can select one. On the HD2, however, no dates drop down, but a bar appears inside the box, it's the sort of bar that appears at the side of screen when you use your finger to grab the side-bar and slide down a long window quickly.
That's the best description I can give in words. I was talking to someone who couldn't use the HD2 as it prevented him from using one particular app which used dropdowns extensively to enable selection of items from dropdown lists.
Hope that helps - can't find anything on it in the tips and tweaks, and searching generally reveals nothing at all.
Can't believe I am the only person with this problem/issue.

Again, I think I know what you mean.
Did you know you can scroll by moving the items in the dropdown up and down? You don't have to use the scrollbar. Obviously, if the dropdown is too narrow that won't work as you'll open the scollbar when you try to grab an item.
The alternative is to try a different theme. That might sound daft, but there was a thread a while back discussing how to get the popout scrollbar working and it turned out that it doesn't work on most of the themes. (I believe it only works on the HTC Black one).
Maybe that would help?
I think you do know what I mean!
As you rightly say, when I tap the scrollbar that has appeared inside the dropdown box, that opens up the entire list in a different screen, and so for this program at least, that is the workaround. Whether that works for all other programs that use dropdowns is another question of course.
I am using HTC Black - which I prefer as a theme, I try some others when work subsides and see if that helps.
thanks for quick posting.

Look for "Touch X Taskmanager.cab". This is the one that fits your description above.
Question: does Touch X Taskmanager actually close each program after you use it? I'm trying Duttys right now, but I noticed that it often doesn't actually close some applications (eg. Comm Manager) when you press X. And, yes, I did set it up to close programs by pressing X.

Hmmm I've had no trouble with either Duttys or the Touch X taskmanagers when it comes to closing apps with X. I actually have it set to close with a tap-hold instead of just a tap, and comm mgr closes just fine for me, using either method, with both of those taskmanagers. Is it possible that maybe you're pressing just a fraction of a second too long and it's registering as a "tap and hold" instead of just a tap?
I tried duttys once before and it did not want to work with my phone but it downloaded it yesterday and worked like a charm. It is taking me a while to get used to the fact that it is there got so used to launching the task manager
I have it set to close applications with a tap. My touchscreen is so sensitive that it doesn't take much of a tap to accomplish this. Nonetheless, Duttys frequently leaves Comm Manager and ActiveSynch open, and I have to close them with the regular Task Manager -- one reason I also use Cookies Home Tab, so I could include the regular Task Manager as a QuickLink.

I gotcha. Yes I do see activesync stay open all the time in the background, and it never shows up in Duttys or the touch_x taskmanagers, and I just let it run really. But, never saw that with Comm Manager. Sounds like you've worked around it just fine though
i believe the task manager you are looking for is Maximus Mobile Task Manager or MMTask Manager for short(Not that short) you can find it here >http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655853
Sorry for this one, I have had a quick search...
On the right hand side, the small dock that shows Browser, Apps and Phone.. how can I change this, on the stock rom I had, the phone was wifi, which was much more useful, given that the advent doesnt have native phone hardware!
It depends a little bit on the launcher you are running, but on most, if you press and hold an icon, even in the dock, you can 'bin' it and drag a new icon into its place from the desktop.
Cant tell which launcher it is, currently using Corvus5 rom, but even the Modaco rom had the same launcher... but Corvus5 has Phone (for some reason), rather than Wifi, and I would like to change it....
Holding down the icon doesnt do anything other than launch the app when you release it...
Cheers
I think that is the ADW or the VTL Launcher (both quite similar). Does anything happen if you hold and drag the icon off the dock position?
Nothing happens, you cant do anything other than press them... and the app launches when you take your finger off...
I haven't got my Vega with me at the moment so can't check till later. I guess it may be worth a look in the Launcher settings. I recall these are not obvious to get to. At the desktop, hit the menu button and then go to Settings or Advanced and I think you find Launcher settings somewhere around there.
I have the same problem.
The icon is not part of the normal launcher bit, its the small tool bar on the right hand side that also has the browser and app button so you cant select it and drag it into the bin.
I wish there was a way to remove the phone parts of the corvus rom... i think i need to do some reading
Ok so I got mine sorted, long press on the phone symbol, select edit then wifi setup. I'm using awn, so hopefully helps someone else.
I dont know why i never remember to long press stuff... haha
Thanks for the tip dude!
Does anyone know how to make the tile spaces smaller on the home screens to get more icons on the screen? i can only fit 4 icons across the screen, loads of wasted space
A number of the Launchers have configuration options for number of icon rows and columns. At the Home screen access the Menu and then see if you have some Launcher options accessible under the More button.
