Look for "Touch X Taskmanager.cab". This is the one that fits your description above.

Question: does Touch X Taskmanager actually close each program after you use it? I'm trying Duttys right now, but I noticed that it often doesn't actually close some applications (eg. Comm Manager) when you press X. And, yes, I did set it up to close programs by pressing X.

Hmmm I've had no trouble with either Duttys or the Touch X taskmanagers when it comes to closing apps with X. I actually have it set to close with a tap-hold instead of just a tap, and comm mgr closes just fine for me, using either method, with both of those taskmanagers. Is it possible that maybe you're pressing just a fraction of a second too long and it's registering as a "tap and hold" instead of just a tap?

I tried duttys once before and it did not want to work with my phone but it downloaded it yesterday and worked like a charm. It is taking me a while to get used to the fact that it is there got so used to launching the task manager

I have it set to close applications with a tap. My touchscreen is so sensitive that it doesn't take much of a tap to accomplish this. Nonetheless, Duttys frequently leaves Comm Manager and ActiveSynch open, and I have to close them with the regular Task Manager -- one reason I also use Cookies Home Tab, so I could include the regular Task Manager as a QuickLink.

I gotcha. Yes I do see activesync stay open all the time in the background, and it never shows up in Duttys or the touch_x taskmanagers, and I just let it run really. But, never saw that with Comm Manager. Sounds like you've worked around it just fine though

i believe the task manager you are looking for is Maximus Mobile Task Manager or MMTask Manager for short(Not that short) you can find it here >http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655853

Close, not minimize?

Whats a good program that will cause programs to actually close out in WM6 instead of just minimizing. Maybe one that adds a - next to the x so if you do want to minimize you can.
SPB pocket plus and Quick Menu are both good progs for the purpose.
Have you tried the HTC Task Manager with the X button feature?
The new ROM w/ GPS works by holding on the X, if you set it that way
2x SPB pocket plus! Works great. Never have to think or worry about what's running in the background.
I've been using HandySwitcher by DinarSoft for quite some time. It's nice because it adds an icon to the taskbar at the top and allows you to see all programs that are currently running, and close them individually or all at once. The only thing I find is that even though it has a menu option to launch at start-up e.g. after a reboot, it seldom actually did! A small but annoying issue.
I'm actually trying the HTC Task Manager as mentioned above as it is in the DCD rom. It's okay and does what you'll need, but not as configurable or flexible as HandySwitcher. I'm trying it just because it's there and I was bored It replaces the default X in the corner and allows you to either hit the X or hold it for a short time instead to close the active program. The only way to see what else is open is to return to the Today screen and tap the same icon.

no, where or how do i get or do that?
I Installed the new task manager, but the old one is still there. How do i get the new task manager to take priorty and work cause Its still not closing when i hold down x.
Have you tried resetting your device?
Go to start>settings>sytem>task manager and in the settings, se "x" to close down a program.

(REQ) Dropdown menu always on

Hey!
I have been searching for a way to have the homescreen upper right "dropdown menu" always there (in every app or screen) insted of the "X" which apere when in an menu or app.
Can someone clever please help me with a reg entry or small app.
Would be great as a built in task manager were you can with ease switch between apps or just close the ones you dont need with the X beside the appname!
I know you can just press homebutton to go to the homescreen and there it is but that feels sluggish and not very optimal.
And I don't wana use an other havy app like spb or so on..I like the original!
Would be much appreciated!
(sorry for bad spelling)
It's built in (at least on official rom 1.93 that I use)
start
settings
system
task manager
button
untick the first option "Enable x button to end running programs"
Tanx fro you answere.
I got the 1.93 rom and it dosent seem to change anything by doing what you told me to do.. The "X" is still there apart from when in Homescreen..
Anyone else upp for the task hehe
Of course the "x" is still there.. hays described a way to minimize the running app. So the taskmanager is not allways on (as u want it to be) but your app will be minimized and you can switch to another app.
Ok.
so there is no build in function for having the "Dropdown menu" always in the upper right corner..
But can if be done with a small piece of reg edit?
Or if someone can make a little fix for it?
Tanx in advance
I'm sorry dude but I don't know any solution for that too.
Didn't hear of any app like that, but maybe u will find one later
There are plenty of task manager applications that change the behavior of the close button.
I use SPB pocket plus, configured so that X is always close, with an improved task manager that pops up when you tap and hold X. There are plenty of other task manager programs available as I said.

is there a way to close a program right away

or will it always run in the backround until you end all tasks
thanks

Depends on the program. I have found that if you hit the back arrow key a few times it closes some of the running apps.
hold the 'home' button > task manager > end all task
that's the fastest way i guess.,,
The only program i know of which ends when you close it is IE. If i hit the red button to exit the browser, it completely shuts down the program. I'm using the dash 3G. It didnt used to be this way on the original Dash.....you can also set your shortcut key to task manager if you wanted to.
how do you change a short cut key to task manager??
thanks

Start > all programs > Accessories > Highlight Task Manager and hit Menu then Add Speed Dial.
I use 3, but pretty much any would work (Besides the number 1)

I have Task Manager set as the long press for the Shortcut Key (bottom right of the Dash 3G keyboard) (short press = Comm Mgr). Set this by Start/More/Settings/More/More/More/(5) Shortcut Key
Then you can make it either the "Short press" function or the "Press and hold" function.
Snap & Ozone don't have that key available though ...

You don't really need to... The Maple has SOOOO much freakin RAM, I've never gone below 60MB yet, even with my WM 6.5 test ROM (coming soon).

I'm a complete Windows Mobile newbie, and this seems very strange and very Microsoft to me. How shocking that there isn't a way to switch apps or close apps beyond the task manager, but nearly every app lacks a well defined close button. Maybe I'm spoiled after playing with the Palm Pre in the store for awhile today.
EDIT: after using the snap a bit more i've set the task manager to one of the speed dial shortcuts. that definitely helps, but i'm still looking into how to make the mycircle button bring up the task man. my other thought is that it would be great if the end button closed your currently running application (maybe with a confirmation prompt). then the home button could still be used to return to the today screen and you wouldn't have duplicated functionality between the home and end buttons.

You could create a Mortscript to map the mycircle button, a bit harder to write one for the currently running app.. now I got my thinking cap on lol

hd2 t-mo usa: does it have a app switcher?

When I close a program, I know its in background(via task manager). How do I switch to that program without always loading taskmanager?
Example: If I minimize a IM application, it's in backgorund. B4 I could click on the upper right corner of the screen and see what's running and click on it to bring it forward.

Search for Dutty's taskmanager and your old style HTC taskmanager will be back in the top right hand corner..
Thanks. I was hoping it was "built-in" but I guess not.
I'm using Quickmenu for multitasking
I got my HD2 on Tmobile "launch date", and apps running in background was the first thing to piss me off. So I was forced to turn my Touch Diamond back on and bluetooth over a copy of quickmenu. After I installed it, I went to the options and checked off "register win key of device". Now I have one button access to my task manager in the quickmenu. O, btw, I also checked off on "ok to close program", huge help.
You should try LMT to close apps or switch to a taskmanager ;-)

I second the Dutty's reccomendation. But I wonder why the heck they didn't include the HTC tack manager by default?
I recommend using ArkSwitch. It opens a nifty graphical list of running programs when you click the Start area on the top left of any program. That's almost as easy as Alt-Tab.
I just tried LMT after having tried every task manager/quick menu app I could find and REALLY like it so far. Having customizable multi-touch gestures that are available anywhere is awesome.
Time will tell if it's stable, and it might be nice to get rid of the confirmation graphic after a while, but for those wanting fast app switching and easy app management, it's pretty slick.

Thanks! And it is stable (I hope so... ). Also check out the new version v0.7 with multitouch controller support. It will be released soon!
Resco Task Manager...best ever
I'm just trying the old staple freeware task manager "Magic Button" on my T-Mo HD2, and it works well. (Although a little hard with no stylus to aim correctly at the small icons on the taskbar.)

Task running in the background...

No matter if I close the program out by hitting the 'X' at the upper right or pressing 'ok', my phone will still lag throughout like there is still programs open, which to my knowledge, when I go to task manager, I have like 15 task open, WHICH i thought I close. So why are they still running in the bg, if I closed them out? It's a constant problem always leaving a program because its chugging along to go to my task manager.

"X" doesn't actually close the program, just minimizes it. In the past, HTC had a task manager that allowed you to select close apps upon pressing "X", but they removed that in the new "Sense". Do a search for Dutty's "HTC Task Manager."
