First off kudos to the folks that got root working on the MT3GS.... I'm at work right now, but this will be the FIRST thing I do when I get home....
Now that we have root, there are 2 things that I would like to see, and this would make the device even more awesome than it is:
1 - The stock 2.1 Launcher, I would love to see the stock 2.1 launcher & lock screen on this bad boy. I LIKE Espsresso, but find myself using LauncherPro more and more.
2 - Live Wallpaper Support.
I would attempt to program it myself if I knew the first step in programming for Android, but will gladly donate to whomever gets these 2 things working.
Isn't the stock 2.1 launcher available as a separate apk?
I haven't found one that works appropriately on the MT3GS screen. All of the apks I've tried are for WVGA devices.

So I've successfully rooted my phone and gotten the ENG image with the SlideMeRoot update all installed. Now does anyone know if there are any wireless tethering apps out there that will work with this phone? I tried Android Wifi Tether and while I was able to connect to the ad-hoc network from my laptop I was never able to get out to the Internet.

Has anyone flashed either Cyanogen or Enomther's "custom" ROMS? Just wondering if there is some sort of pressing reason why I would want to.
That is a good question.
For me it would be Cyanogens as he has incorporated multitouch I believe.
For the increase in functionality.
Tethering would be a good reason.
Enom makes theming easier!
Yeah, same here. Tethering hands down is a really critical application. I'm not big into themes, but they made it easy for those too if you are.
Custom roms usually have a bunch of neat functionalities that don't come stock.
For instance, on the G1 we had a modified phone.apk, which had the ability to blacklist callers. I love that feature so much and hope it will come to the nexus. Basically you put in someones number and it will hang up the call on the other end, without sending them to voicemail. It just hangs up and dead air. Bonus is you get no notification of the missed call either, and with no voicemail you can always say I didn't know you called to your boss... atleast that is how I do it... did it i guess.
Please work on the Phone.apk!

that sounds like an excellent app... any idea when the Cyanogen rom will be released..
i rooted and unlocked my N1 yesterday, little scary the first time but i did ok, Im anxious to do it again.
i rooted my n1 with custom room MoDaCo custom ROM 1.2 and i love it. of course the added feature of wireless tethering makes a world of a difference and multitouch is great too. im just now looking for new apk to install to keep my N1 in tip-top-shape
right...but I can add the wireless tether on my own via code.google.com. however, I get what you all are saying. thanks for the information

forgive me as i am new to this so i havent really checked to see if there is another thread about this particular subject. I want to root my device but i heard that i dont get access to official updates anymore.
If i root my phone will i get access to the 2.1 update when it comes out. will it be available to download anywhere else. As i have noticed 1.6 android is great. any help is greatly appreciated.
Also can i just ask also, what are the best benefits of rooting a sony ericsson experia x10?

Yup u should be able to get 2.1 one way or another, I don't see y not cuz we'r able to get hold of the minor updates as we speak!
hmm rooting allows you to do mor things with your phone..
Allows you to get rid of most of the crap se have built-in (some have side effects lol so u gotta watch out what you remove here)
Allows for better backup & restore functions
Able to use themes that developers have worked upon
Use apps that you couldn't use before such as barnacle wifi tether, root explorer, adfree, etc..
I'm sure there's more but I'm just in bed thinking of the top of my head lolz

I've had some problems getting HTC apps working in cm6 latest nightly.
I get my apks from DC froyo.
First I tried an easy install which failed.
Then I moved it to the system/app folder and chmod and chowned to make sure the permissions and owners were the same as stock.
Right now the HTC internet browser opens but force closes.
How can I get it working?
Aren't the HTC apps tied to the Sense framework? If so, I don't think it'll be possible to get them working on a non-sense ROM.
I could be completely wrong.

No you are not completely wrong. You are completely correct. Sense is deeply integrated into Android. It's not like there are just some added libraries. The source code that compiles into the framework.jar and framework-res.apk, etc are directly modified by HTC. This means Sense is no mere skin. It is a complete integration into Android. Regardless, without this framework HTC apps will only run on Sense phones. Some can be ported over but it's a difficult process so most likely the apps you want will not be ported over. Out of curiosity though, which apps are you trying to use on CM6?
If you want Sense, go back to Sense.

Can't use HTC apps without Sense. Please check the FAQ in the future.
if you provide the applications you're trying to run, perhaps alternatives can be suggested for you.
I personally like the HTC Tip Calulator widget....
and the HTC Notes....
But you can't use them on adw.
I don't want an app shortcut, I want a widget.
I prefer AOSP thankyou very much.
I just like the option of having some apps that I got used to.
HTC_ime for example. The keyboard.
Even though I use swype.
The camera app which pwns the stock.
Got flashlight and car panel working.
FM radio and weather would be nice too.
There were some nice Widgets but the only one I miss is the clock.
Any porting tips?

last nights CM6 build incorporated a new camera app and deathray (er...Flashlight app w/ widget). just get the nightly build and flash over what you have...i wipe 'cache' and 'dalvik cache' ...you loose no settings.
i use 'MyWeather' but then, i don't care for weather widgets. have you even looked on the android market for this? maybe try browsing from a computer on a site like www.appbrain.com
i use digital clock widget to provide my time date...many folks praise Beautiful Widgets.

Thanks for your post, but.
This isn't about anything specific, i simply want to know how to get apps ported, without the java source.
That said, I AM using dolphin, but I prefer the copy-paste that I can only find with HTC sense, I was hoping the browser on stock sense would help.
I've come across that thread, and use Swype without much issue, but having no trackball () makes me wish I had some arrow keys.. Not available in that thread.
Since my OP I have customized ADW and i'm quite pleased with it overall.
Now I just want to be able to use any app I wish. Regardless of alternatives!
Beautiful widgets is good, but has no analog clocks last I checked.
I do use it either way, but again, this isn't about anything specific.
I want to unlock apk's so they work anywhere. Any rom. Not just with HTC apps, but even the touchwiz apps!
Don't care about 4G, and i know that there are bugs being worked out with CM6 but i'm following it closely. On the 8/11 nightly build right now.

The problem which I have won't be solved by simply looking around for a version of the APK that works.

Swype from the Swype key to the SYM key. Voila.
So, now we have the possibility to have custom ROMs, flasheable with CWM. THere are already two guys who have put effort out there, and maybe they'd want some ideas on what you people would like. What do you consider that should be in your custom ROM of choice?
Myself, I would love a Reboot and Screenshot option in the power off menu.
Maybe a minimalist version of 2.3?

I already have reboot options in the power menu of my ROM. Taking a serious look at the Screenshot option. Not many ROMs appear to have it though, but I'm going to give it a shot.

there was a guy who edited the HomeAPK and made it 3 screens landscape
you can edit the Home through comp. to make it more
The stock launcher, at least in the last build, does have landscape support

The one that comes with the phone does have landscape mode.........
1) Auto Brigtness disable
2) Overclock
3) Use the touchpad as a touchscreen emulator (eg swiping on the touchpad is the same as swiping on the screen, great for browsing without touching the screen)
4) Enable the FM radio

+1 for this. The only thing I liked about the Verizon Play is that it's basically running stock gingerbread. Currently, I'm using my custom "hybrid" of r800i rom mixed with r800x launcher/apps. The upside is that I removed all the sony junk and replaced it with stock android apps (dialer, calendar, contacts, etc) while keeping stuff like working touchpad (which failed me in cyanogenmod) and playstation pocket. The downside is that I can't replace the sony lockscreen and statusbar with the stock one. For now, I'm just using widgetlock to emulate it.
If someone can get a working stock gingerbread rom with NOTHING extra (not even hidden SE apps and services), but still have working playstation pocket and touchpads/xperia optimized apps. I will use it.
AndroHero's ROM is certainly in that path.
But really... the stock GB Launcher too? It couldn't be more spartan if it tried...
I took a good run at adding a Screenshot menu item to the power menu but haven't been successful yet. Ends up crashing on boot, unfortunately, so I'm doing something wrong. Not giving up yet though. Decompiling JARs and trying to understand it all is a huge pain in the ass.
I've got reboot options already though along with the ability to overclock and undervolt.
I was looking towards pretty much going as stock Android as possible, but I wasn't sure anyone would want it.

I can't get reboot in power menu working. Well i can get it to work, but then the power off option reboots the device too
There's also the issue with Recovery just rebooting and not directly starting recovery yet. I'll take a look at what Power off is doing on mine as well.
Power Off seems to work fine for me. Are you maybe running it with the USB cable plugged in?

About the 10 finger touch screen. what would you use it for? i've always wondered this lol.
ive had a odd phone crash i cannot recover the phone from its esentialy a brick now. it turns on and functions sort of but the home page is missing just a blank black screen is there and only the notifacations bar and lock screen works. has anyone ever tryed to flash a velocity rom onto a flipside? if so does everytihng work right afterwards?

Don't know what a velocity rom is, but sounds like you either uninstalled your launcher or it is corrupt. Are you rooted? That's the only way I know that you could have uninstalled it. Here's what you can do to recover regardless. Go to play market from your computer, sign in with your assosiated account to the device and find a home launcher you like. I've used launcher pro and go launcher ex on the flipside. Send your choice to your phone. Then when you unlock the phone, press the home key and you should be given the choice to use the new launcher. Should fix, but you'll have to do some customizing.

Should still work. Doesn't hurt to try.

Not without being able to access the home screen. If you can't remember the google account associated with the phone, sounds like only option is to reflash with the stock sbf. You will lose all data on the phone but not the sd card. The files needed are in the development section.
i did it. i did another master reset resetup the emails form the beginning still had issues messed with the phone got the voice commands to open and told it to open the market by voice command and downloaded it from the phone. its working again now.

im not entirely sure how the original got corrupt or missing i unlocked it to make a text on the 26th and it just dident load the home. but its working just as good as it always has now.
well its been a few days the phone works great thogh im not entirely liking the new buttons on the bottom. does anyone know where to get the original motorola flipside home launcher?
