Problems with Fender edition Mytouch - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I know this would have been asked by someone else but I just can't find the answer.
I have a HTC (Magic) MyTouch 3G I brought in from the states as I loved the phone. I am using Virgin Mobile but have just found out that the phone automatically sends info back to T Mobile via text. I my phone has sent 289 text in the last month meaning I have a bill of over $260.
I have read that the phone sends these text as part of the My Fav app but this app is not removable. From what I understand I need to change the firmware to a standard version and even though I will loose the custom apps I will save $230 per month. Does anybody know where I can find either the HTC Sence UI or even the vanilla version of 1.6 and how I install it on the phone?

You would need to root your device and install a custom rom.

IM app on Cyanogen ROM

Hi, i have a rooted Vodafone UK magic running Cyanogens 4.0.1. i noticed some extra app's were installed specifically from Tmobile's packs, including the IM app.
i also noticed even in my default vodafone ROM that there is an IM client (but only visible when u view manage accounts). Cyanogens rom provides the IM application yet i cant seem to use it, is it tied only to tmobile accounts? or tmobile handsets? when i run it, it tells me it cant find the mobile number or something.
just curious as none of the other IM clients seem to be that great
Yap,i would like to know too!
I have the same issue on my Tmobile (uk) g1 running latest cyanogen. Would like to know if there is anything we can do to get this working? Hi msn is an alternative but that seems a waste of time and space as there is already an I'M app there for us

Microsoft MyPhone Premium features not working?

Hi,
I've been trying to get the MyPhone premium features trial (locate lost phone/remote ring etc.) to work on the HD2 and to set this up the service needs to send 12 silent messages to the phone. This worked on my old Polaris just fine but on the HD2 it fails to recieve these 12 messages and therfeore the service cant be used.
Does anyone else have this problem???
Thanks
Just gave it a go - same problem - FYI I'm on Vodafone..
Have you guy's updated your ROM to the newest version? Maybe HTC has fixed it... I don't know, but it's worth a try.
I've not flashed yet, due to the O2 branded ROM, might try the goldcard method on the weekend.
Anyone with the newer ROM care to try the free premium features trial and report back
Thanks

Hd2 my phone premium features dont work
I have a HD2 which i bought sim free which Im using on the Orange UK 3G network.
I've also noticed that the premium features on ms_myphone dont work with the HD2.
Along with everyone else, I get the message that the phone cannot be contacted.
As soon as the ROM is officially announced on the website of HTC: Report this issue. Maybe they fix it soon then...

TBH don't see the point in waiting until ROM is officially announced, after all it doesn't work in the current ROM neither! So reporting it as "not working" now just means they can't come back with a "this feature is supported in a forthcoming ROM" (or if they do then we'll know they are talking about something coming later in the pipeline than 1.48!).
I think the more people that report it the better; especially as the whole MS MyPhone feature doesn't seem to have had all that much marketing (at least the here in the UK) therefore the might not immediately be that many people complaining about it.
Just my opinion
Don't know if it's relevant, but having run MyPnone on the original ROM I was (as is standard) asked to download an update to the application. I did this and all was well until today when I was asked to download another update, which I have also done.
Why not see if there is any way to force this update - it may be a bugfix?

No, still doesn't work with my SIM free HD2 on Orange UK- "The ring/ lock request couldn't be sent due to a problem with our service"

Semi-relevent but sadly not a fix..
The 'updated' version of the MyPhone app contains the code for the 'Premium' service to work, however these in turn have to then be supported by the phone itself. FYI. Turns out what it does is constantly monitor your incoming txt messages for and intercepts specially formatted ones from the MS server instructing it to do something (ie. for the MyPhone app to launch and connect back to base, turn ringer to full and ring, acquire GPS fix, etc etc). I'd hazard a guess it is the HTC Sence txt messaging service which is preventing this service from working - after all it is known already not to play nice with the txt message notification queue and instead hog it to itself.
So in summary: without the update you'd have no chance of the location element of the Premium Services working, with it you still need support from your handset and it would seem up to ROM 1.48 at least we have sadly confirmed not to have this with the HD2 at this stage. A fix needs to come from either HTC or Microsoft (further updated to MyPhone app), or quite possibly both.
There's a relevant thread over at the MyPhone forum that I tried to add to http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/MyPhone/thread/57659d5c-2077-4387-9bda-92643e17cab7
not had a reply yet, maybe we need a new thread over there?
i think it must be the HTC messaging app ... has anyone install back the old windows message app, and try the myphone Premium features again?
Im going to bump this thread now that custom ROMS are out there and ask
Is anyone with the htc messaging removed able to set up the premium features of MyPhone?
How do you disable HTC messaging....?
Can you fully disable senseUI ?
On a stock rom....
Serriously, your telling me that no one cares about locating their lost phone, remote wiping etc!
but threads like oh god I bought the wrong phone get a responce
Any luck with a 1.66 ROM?

If you are looking for find my phone style software, forget the myphone premium, go look at Remotetracker. Free, and superb. Stuffed with tons of features. TXT your phone, it will call you back with the microphone open, another command will text you gps coordinates and a link to the position on google maps, another commands will start the gps, make a 5 minute track log and then text it to you in google earth compatible format,, send popup messages to teh phone, get it to send you all your contacts, get it to wipe the SD card, the list is endless.
http://remotetracker.sourceforge.net/
remotetracker is good but I would prefer to be able to use a website to contact my phone rather than having to send a text to it. also being able to ring the phone etc and view it on a map

HTC New SMS Function Update

New SMS Function Update: http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=297&cat=0&dl_id=812
Has anyone installed this and seen any drastic improvements? I believe the last SMS update they released did absolutely no good. Is this something you should install even if you have ROM versions 1.66.XXX.X?
Sure would be nice to have them fix these issues from locking up during heavy sms usage once and for all.

Usually they say a ROM version number as the one listed has the fix built in.
Here is the link for all the latest HTC updates for the HD2 and this New- SMS update is out after the latest ROM update? That doesn't make sense? They have screwed up the SMS'ing of this phone from the very beginning. That being said, if they could ever fix it, I wouldn't want anything else.
2 questions in one....
will this new update work with my xannytech 2.3 evolution??
Update for HTC HD2 – New SMS Function Update
This update for HTC HD2 amends the internal management of SMS functionality, and enhances SMS transmission stability, and lets you reach out to your friends and family with instant notifications. Keeping in touch has always been very important, and this update delivers just that: fast and reliable SMS messaging.
i ask this because, we all know that the reception or signal on the hd2 is not the best. But , when i send a text and there is no signal i would like the phone to Try and send the text as soon as a signal is recieved on its own. Find it very annoying having to wait or look for a signal (normally putting phone down) to then quickly resend the message before the signal is lost. Im sure every other phone iv had waits till a receotion then sends. Is there a setting iv missed? Or maybe the hd2 actually does this but hours later?
hope you get where im comming from
thanx for any help....

the htc support site says for roms below 1.66.xxx, that means to me that 1.66.xxx+ roms have this built in already
if your on a custom rom, you'll have to double check what build its based on

[Q] About taking in a phone to get contacts synced from sprint?

Ok so i have a question, i have an older sister up in a different state and my dad bought her a brand new epic for xmas. Its not activated yet til she gets it obviously so i was wondering:
1. if i sent it to her rooted so i can give her mobile ap and custom kernal all that fun stuff, will sprint know anything if they are just transfering contacts from her old sanyo pink regular phone?
2. Can it be rooted before activation?
Would Greatly appreciate someones insights,
Thanks
I don't know about sprint but it doesnt effect verizon. All it is is cellbrite

Sprint uses cellbrite as well and so does best buy

only thing about rooting her device and putting all the cool stuff on it is... she's going to have to do all the updates manually. do you trust your sister to do that? if so, go crazy. i sent my brother a pre rooted EVO and he's still running 2.29something. doubt he'll ever make it because he doesn't have the patience to sit on aim with me while i walk him through it and he's dumb as a brick (too dumb to brick it, even)
butttt i work at a sprint store and i'd ask her about her mod and which one it was.. i wouldn't report her or anything.. in fact, there is no protocol to do so. they just don't support the devices - eg. you wont get her screen replaced if bad software killed it under warranty if they can find evidence of tampering with the software
lol but i would support it. then again, im here

U mean the 2.2 update? i dont think she will care that much honestly.
i know i will tell her how to flash stock stuff and ill do it for her or tell her bf to do the stock flash.
so if she is just getting contacts transfered they shouldnt give her any trouble if its rooted, i mean it will look stock. just have mobile ap on it.

Oh ones that can get them from a sanyo regular phone to the computer or what? Which apps would work?
Anyone got any answer about rooting b4 activation? Will it still activate if it's rooted?

There is numerous ones out there just Google transferring phonebook software. I can't remember what I used to have when I worked for T-Mobile something along the lines of Data Pilot I think but don't quote me. Not sure about the rooting question though. I've had the opportunity to root before activating. If you do root before you activate and it does work let me know for future reference please and thank you.
I found it easier to manage my contacts via Google Contacts instead of trying to clean up transferred data from my 4 year old flip phone.
What I did in Google Contacts:
Created a new group labeled "Android"
Cleaned up, added, removed contacts (Initial cleanup took 2 hours, subsequent cleanup is now only 1 minute.)
Assigned the "Android" group to those I wanted in my contact list in the phone.
What I did in the phone itself:
Went into the contact preferences and selected "only show contacts with #s"
Deselected all of the groups from Google Contacts and only selected "Android" to sync
Then I linked Facebook to my phone to allow the auto-sync (for contact photos)
Finally I manually attached FB accounts to contacts that didn't auto-sync
When I want to add a new number, I add it to my Google account from the phone's contact manager, then later just add the "Android" group via the Google Contacts website.
This was the easiest method I found to keep my contact list clutter free, while still utilizing Google Contacts to it's full potential.

160-character limit on the Verizon Trophy?

Hey guys, HTC Arrive owner here, and I just wanted to ask a question, mostly because I haven't seen it anywhere on the internet, and I don't have a Verizon store convenient to me that has a Trophy on display to try this with.
Does the Trophy (NoDo or Mango, doesn't matter) allow you to create messages over 160 characters? Does it split them, or does it just stop you (saying something like "Message is too long")?
I just wanted to ask because the Arrive currently is stuck with a 160-character cap, and I am trying to find out if it's because WP7 doesn't know how to step around that limit (on CDMA networks), or if it's just isolated to Sprint.
Thanks in advance.
I don't think this is the case on the trophy

If that's the case, it's isolated to the phone.
If anyone else could chime in confirming this, it'd be awesome.
Chiming in letting you know that it's definitely not the case. I'm pretty sure it splits it, but I know for a fact you can go over 160.
Yes, it does split the messages. This is related to SMS, and is not specific to the Trophy. At 130 characters, it will show you the character count. After 160 characters, it splits the message.
I called htc on this issue and they claim its a carrier issue called microsoft they claim its a htc issue and possibley a carrier issue ive pounded the pavement on this im going to take this phone and find who ever designed the software and give them a not so nice piece of mind. i mean really this is ridiculous i cant send segmented choppedn up messages to my clients its a joke. i mean ive had a htc snap tp and a tp2 non of them had this issue no problem after you reach a certain amount of characters bam message 2. That what the receiver wont think i am a moron and cannot finish my messages because right now before i have a chance to type of the second half of my thought i get a reply from ther receiver say huh is there more to your message its madening and im pissed off. How hard is it some top paid programmers cant hash out its a insult to their skills if they are that stupid to leave something so basic out of the equation.
