IM app on Cyanogen ROM - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi, i have a rooted Vodafone UK magic running Cyanogens 4.0.1. i noticed some extra app's were installed specifically from Tmobile's packs, including the IM app.
i also noticed even in my default vodafone ROM that there is an IM client (but only visible when u view manage accounts). Cyanogens rom provides the IM application yet i cant seem to use it, is it tied only to tmobile accounts? or tmobile handsets? when i run it, it tells me it cant find the mobile number or something.
just curious as none of the other IM clients seem to be that great

Yap,i would like to know too!

I have the same issue on my Tmobile (uk) g1 running latest cyanogen. Would like to know if there is anything we can do to get this working? Hi msn is an alternative but that seems a waste of time and space as there is already an I'M app there for us

Native IM (AIM,MSN,Yahoo,Gtalk) app on JF ADP 1.51

searched but haven't found anything.
running JF1.5, wondering if the US RC33 app works and where to get it if it does?
i know there's meebo and stuff out there, but i have yet to find a 3rd party app without connection issues. i also don't have data plan but do have unlimited sms, so i'd actually prefer the use of sms on the native app.
otherwise i'm assuming we'll have to wait for the official t-mobile OTA release for a cupcake compatible app?
update: now looking for an IM app port from the US to ADP/other versions of cupcake

There's a stock gtalk app on JF1.5(and all the other versions of ADB 1.5). The new IM app is apparently modular, so people have to make the plugins for the other IM protocols(will probably be available in the t-mobile release)

well, at least not in our german update :-/
Germany is also so small that noone notice/care
*Looks at his address... Denmark*
Well, maybe .. but i think it's more due to tmobiles policies .. they also don't allow IM besides p2p and voip afaik.
I hope we see a plugin soon. The only reliable IM it appears is Hi Aim. Every other application on the market suffers from constant disconnects or other issues.
Meebo works fine and very stable for me! I connect via my meebo account to msn and icq.
Meebo disconnects often for me.

palringo for ALL your chatting needs!!!..in the market
the thing with 3rd party apps is that they get shut down by android automatically when you start using more memory for other apps. correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the built-in IM app has a service always running in the background that keeps connection.
anyone know if the RC33 app works with cupcake?
i tried parlingo, hi progs, meebo and ebuddy. i like ebuddy.

download eBuddy in the market.
I tried Meebo but it kept disconnecting. I think the best one for MSN is Hi MSN. I love it because I can send nudges and winks too. Lol. And it seems if it loses its connection it automatically reconnects. Nice!
ok, so i tried moving various combinations of the following files from Jf 1.51 US to JF 1.51 ADP and none of it seems to be working...
IM.apk
IM.odex
ImProvider.apk
ImProvider.odex
TmoImPlugin.apk
anyone know if there are any library dependencies or some other way to get these working on ADP builds?

Even the native IM apps get bumped off when more memory is needed for other apps. It's sad because we can't find an AIM/YAHOO/WLM application for Android that can stay connected 24/7. This is the only thing I miss about my sidekick.

I have Hello IM but I don't like using it because it drains the battery really fast. Even Hello IM is not excluded from being shut down to make more memory room for other apps.

Microsoft MyPhone Premium features not working?

Hi,
I've been trying to get the MyPhone premium features trial (locate lost phone/remote ring etc.) to work on the HD2 and to set this up the service needs to send 12 silent messages to the phone. This worked on my old Polaris just fine but on the HD2 it fails to recieve these 12 messages and therfeore the service cant be used.
Does anyone else have this problem???
Thanks
Just gave it a go - same problem - FYI I'm on Vodafone..
Have you guy's updated your ROM to the newest version? Maybe HTC has fixed it... I don't know, but it's worth a try.
I've not flashed yet, due to the O2 branded ROM, might try the goldcard method on the weekend.
Anyone with the newer ROM care to try the free premium features trial and report back
Thanks

Hd2 my phone premium features dont work
I have a HD2 which i bought sim free which Im using on the Orange UK 3G network.
I've also noticed that the premium features on ms_myphone dont work with the HD2.
Along with everyone else, I get the message that the phone cannot be contacted.
As soon as the ROM is officially announced on the website of HTC: Report this issue. Maybe they fix it soon then...

TBH don't see the point in waiting until ROM is officially announced, after all it doesn't work in the current ROM neither! So reporting it as "not working" now just means they can't come back with a "this feature is supported in a forthcoming ROM" (or if they do then we'll know they are talking about something coming later in the pipeline than 1.48!).
I think the more people that report it the better; especially as the whole MS MyPhone feature doesn't seem to have had all that much marketing (at least the here in the UK) therefore the might not immediately be that many people complaining about it.
Just my opinion
Don't know if it's relevant, but having run MyPnone on the original ROM I was (as is standard) asked to download an update to the application. I did this and all was well until today when I was asked to download another update, which I have also done.
Why not see if there is any way to force this update - it may be a bugfix?

No, still doesn't work with my SIM free HD2 on Orange UK- "The ring/ lock request couldn't be sent due to a problem with our service"

Semi-relevent but sadly not a fix..
The 'updated' version of the MyPhone app contains the code for the 'Premium' service to work, however these in turn have to then be supported by the phone itself. FYI. Turns out what it does is constantly monitor your incoming txt messages for and intercepts specially formatted ones from the MS server instructing it to do something (ie. for the MyPhone app to launch and connect back to base, turn ringer to full and ring, acquire GPS fix, etc etc). I'd hazard a guess it is the HTC Sence txt messaging service which is preventing this service from working - after all it is known already not to play nice with the txt message notification queue and instead hog it to itself.
So in summary: without the update you'd have no chance of the location element of the Premium Services working, with it you still need support from your handset and it would seem up to ROM 1.48 at least we have sadly confirmed not to have this with the HD2 at this stage. A fix needs to come from either HTC or Microsoft (further updated to MyPhone app), or quite possibly both.
There's a relevant thread over at the MyPhone forum that I tried to add to http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/MyPhone/thread/57659d5c-2077-4387-9bda-92643e17cab7
not had a reply yet, maybe we need a new thread over there?
i think it must be the HTC messaging app ... has anyone install back the old windows message app, and try the myphone Premium features again?
Im going to bump this thread now that custom ROMS are out there and ask
Is anyone with the htc messaging removed able to set up the premium features of MyPhone?
How do you disable HTC messaging....?
Can you fully disable senseUI ?
On a stock rom....
Serriously, your telling me that no one cares about locating their lost phone, remote wiping etc!
but threads like oh god I bought the wrong phone get a responce
Any luck with a 1.66 ROM?

If you are looking for find my phone style software, forget the myphone premium, go look at Remotetracker. Free, and superb. Stuffed with tons of features. TXT your phone, it will call you back with the microphone open, another command will text you gps coordinates and a link to the position on google maps, another commands will start the gps, make a 5 minute track log and then text it to you in google earth compatible format,, send popup messages to teh phone, get it to send you all your contacts, get it to wipe the SD card, the list is endless.
http://remotetracker.sourceforge.net/
remotetracker is good but I would prefer to be able to use a website to contact my phone rather than having to send a text to it. also being able to ring the phone etc and view it on a map

Youtube

Hi all
I am having problems with logging in to youtube through HTC sense on the HD2. I can log in to Facebook and twitter just fine, but whenever I try to log in to youtube, nothing happens - the icon does not turn green, but stays greyed out. I have tried on 2 different HD2s, using two different youtube accounts, and have even tried following a hard reset with the same results. I have tried to log in using the data services in the settings, and also using the account manager in the connections settings. I would like to be able to upload my videos to youtube from the HTC album, but of course I can't do this until I am logged in.
Is anyone having similar issues? I am using the 1.43 ROM on O2 in the UK. I don't really want to upgrade until the official ROM is released.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Just had the issue with my German Tmobile ROM.
Youtube was disabled...or no idea what Tmobile did to the ROM.
Now with the clean 1.48 everything works fine.
regards
brook
I'm on t-mobile on the uk and YouTube does not seem to work over 3G or HSDPA. works ok over wifi, now running 1.48 WWE ROM.
Sent from HD2 keyboard
One thing I will ask, is there any way when using the Youtube application, that when you do a search, the search results are similar to that of the actual Youtube website.
I often do a search in the app and will get no results, or very different results and on the website will gain the proper results.
Any suggestions?

Youtube login fix
Ive noticed something odd about the logins in Sense UI for youtube (and probably Facebook etc), if you have a non-alphanumeric password (a password with say [email protected] etc ) you won't be able to login. Just change your password with google/youtube and you can login. I assume the same goes for twitter and facebook.
Thanks for all the responses. Looks like my best bet is to wait for O2 to bring us the official 1.48 (or 1.49) upgrade, or to try the goldcard method. Just to respond to some of the suggestions, I have tried both over wifi and 3g with the same result, and I already have an alphanumeric password. Anyone else having this issue?
yep I have an official o2 ROM and I can't log into YouTube.
Looking suspiciously like an issue with the O2 rom. Have asked over at the O2 forums if anyone else is experiencing this. Will keep you updated.
Im on o2 and I dont have a problem, works fine for me.
Im also still on .143 rom.

Another troll post by you... reported!
On topic: If your device didn't come with the youtube application, you might want to try this alternative: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508984
For all Coreplayer users: Coreplayer also has Youtube integrated.
By the way:
I have written ALL of my recent posts on the HTC HD2. Typing on a mobile phone has never been so easy.
I made a thread concerning the youtube app and the camcorder. My T-mobile device didn't come with the youtube app so I decided to install it but it seemed to mess up my camcorder. I wasn't able to play the videos back.
Has anybody had this problem?
yep i`m on tmobile and i have the same problem, desperate for a fix!!!!! i have the original youtube app off the topaz/hd but my videos wont play when this is installed, uninstall it an my videos play fine. i wish i had the knowledge or understanding to make this work, unfortunatly i dont LOL!!
someone on this forum must know how to fix this, surely!
OK, I'm making progress. I created a new youtube account, which I can now log in to properly from the phone. My original youtube account still isn't working, though. From feedback I have had elsewhere, I'm wondering whether this has anything to do with the fact that this is linked to my google account. For those still having this issue, I would suggest trying to create a new account on the youtube website and trying to log in to that. Also, I noticed that I have to log in using my user name only, not with the email address, as this doesn't work. Hope this helps someone.
same problem
mine was working fine until today when I goldcarded it to the official htc 1.48.405.2 rom. now it doesn't work.
anyone figured this issue out yet?

Official T-Mobile USA HD2 ROM Upgrade! - [2.13.531.1]

Here are a few links with information (including the HTC website download mirror) regarding the official update from T-Mobile USA, courteously provided by: Pocket Now!
Upgrade Announcement!
ROM Information!
I will most likely be applying this update within the next few days. Although, I'm a little hesitant just because I figure that certain, "Manila modifications" won't operate properly on this upgraded T-Mobile USA version... NOT YET ANYWAY!
Thanks,

Install new ROM and restore from Sprite
I plan to install the new official ROM and then do a full restore from a Sprite backup that I will have done while on the old ROM.
Will that work
Do I need to do anything different with Sprite or is it just a normal restore
Thanks for any advice.
I have downloaded this version and installed it...i think its slow and it lags. so i got rid of it and i flashed back old one.

I wouldn't advise that...
Just go ahead and perform the usual steps of "starting fresh."
It's not worth risking any system "tainting" that could occur in the process of another system recovery from a different ROM image.
Besides, if you don't think the update is worth performing in the first place, stick with your current setup.

Really?
Most everyone that has provided a testimony for "TmoNews" has suggested that only improvements are noticed... nothing negative to report.
I would suggest that you CLEAR/CLEAN the RAM after the installation. Use a program such as Memory Maid to run a few system maintenance diagnostics.
Otherwise, give this "new" ROM time to "settle" on your device. 24-hour tests are usually the best idea.
I have installed the new ROM. Things are very similar to way they were before. Didn't feel HD2 getting faster or slower. However, I have a strange problem now: Right now I don't have a data plan so I'm using my WiFi connection to get to the internet. One of the first apps I installed after flashing the new ROM is Omarket. Few hours ago, i.e. before flashing the ROM, Omarket was working fine but now it cannot connect to internet! Opera mobile works fine though (I downloaded Omarket with it!). There are other strange things going on as well: I have an MS exchange account. I can sync my emails over WiFi but contacts do not get synced! It seems that somehow some programs can use WiFi and some others cannot. Couldn't figure out what's going on yet...
Any changelog ?

UPDATE CHANGELOG! (Personal Analysis)
Here are a few changes that I've noticed since upgrading to this ROM yesterday evening:
The HTC Sense menus no longer have the "snap back" feature.
The overall screen sensitivity has been increased.
HTC Peep, the standard Twitter client appears to be completely removed.
The lock screen no longer "stutters" (on occasion) during the "slide to unlock."
Upgraded radio, including the version number.
Upgraded ROM, including the build number.
"T-Mobile Help," the micro-forums application has been included.
"My Account" has been included, with a more "feature-rich" experience.
"Swype" now has HAPTIC FEEDBACK, whereas my version of Swype did NOT prior to this update.

I saw on the Freeware Pocket PC twitter that they where having problems with the OMarket, Maybe this is what you where experiencing. Did the regular market work?
Haptic feedback on Swype.... interesting.
How well does Swype work for holding down a key to get the alternate symbol (like numbers & punctuation). On mine you can hold if down for days and never get the popup - I had to install version 2 to make it work.
BTW - I think I like the layout for version 2's symbols better, especially the numbers, but might be interesting to try out this Rom after enough people give feedback on it.
Missing Twitter tab would be... odd.
Why is this release coming from a HTC web site rather than T-Mo? I'm thinking of upgrading but dread going back through all the settings.

This problem appears to have been fixed in the new ROM.
One thing I noticed is that the new T-Mobile Help app hooks into the dialer and hijacks attempts to dial 611. Dialing 611 brings up the help app and then eventually the phone may dial 611 itself later.
The whole effect is... bizarre and unwelcome.
I cant get the My account or Help application to work. When I click the icon it shows me the initial screen and says "the my account application will be downloaded shortly" and just sits there. Did I somehow mis-flash the rom? I can't imagine this is the case.

Because the phone was created and manufactured by HTC. Just like Apple releases the updates for its iPhone; not AT&T.

Problems with Fender edition Mytouch

I know this would have been asked by someone else but I just can't find the answer.
I have a HTC (Magic) MyTouch 3G I brought in from the states as I loved the phone. I am using Virgin Mobile but have just found out that the phone automatically sends info back to T Mobile via text. I my phone has sent 289 text in the last month meaning I have a bill of over $260.
I have read that the phone sends these text as part of the My Fav app but this app is not removable. From what I understand I need to change the firmware to a standard version and even though I will loose the custom apps I will save $230 per month. Does anybody know where I can find either the HTC Sence UI or even the vanilla version of 1.6 and how I install it on the phone?
