I recent was playing around with different ROMs and EXT_ROMS, and I found one that would allow up to have the phone Hermes set its time via the tower.
I have also searched the threads to see if I can find it but have had no luck.
Can anyone tell me with version ROM does that is in or the EXT_Rom to use to get this....
Any help I get get tracking this down will be great.

y? the tower time is not that accurate. i rather it just sync with time.nist.gov.. everytime i sync with home pc, it will sync the time with time.nist.gov
I am ready to throw my phone against the wall!
All of a sudden about 2 days ago my phone began to run extremely slow. I cant even describe how slow it was. If I tried to send a 8 word text and after the 4th letter or so it would simply stop recognizing keyboard input. Its acting like its low on ram but I have plenty of memory. If I let it sit, turned on, for a 10 mins or so it might finally show the text so I could then send it. Also, the internet stopped working and it wouldnt connect to my email server (hotmail). I did a hard reset, soft reset and nothing worked. Its acting like it has a virus or something.
Cut to today, I thought I could just reflash it with Black Satin Medium and it would fix everything. It always seemed like a good program and I never had any problems before so I thought I could just reinstall it. It was fine for about an hour and now its moving slow again. I dont know if it could have been one of the .cabs I installed but they are the same cabs I had on my phone for months before it flipped out 2 days ago.
So please help! I use my phone for everything and right now it is unusable!
Once I get that part figured out I need help to figure out how I can get my contacts back onto my 8525. I have flashed my phone before but they always appeared right back onto my phone when I was done. It was effortless. And now I cant figure out how to get my contacts back. On Activesync, when I go to Tools, Options, then try to select Contacts as an item to sync I get a message that says "Activesync cannot synchronize Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes, because outlook is not installed on Windows PC. To Sync Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes do the following: Disconnect the device, Install and run outlook, and then reconnect the device and try again."
But I have outlook on my PC and 8525. I never use either of them but they are there.
Lastly, and this is another big annoyance, any time I connect my 8525 to my laptop the clock on my phone jumps ahead 3 hours exactly. The time on my computer is the current time and so is the time on my phone. but everytime it jumps forward.

Hi Jim,
1. Hermes is a good device - don't do that with some patience everything will be fine.
2. In such a situation I will go to a major upgrade. Flash new radio e.g. 1.54, and maybe try some of new ROMs - Schap'a or Shamanix
- dont rush to install any cabs first, just see how the device performs for some time. Try syncing with your pc to see can you get the contacts on the devide
- it could be that some of the cabs got corrupted. maybe make sense to download them anew.
- start installing the cabs one by one, with significant time and usage between the installations - you can figure out which one is causing the problem
3. before start syncing for first time, just delete all mobile devices on PC activesync -- >File>Delete Mobile Device
4. Check your regional and clock settings
Have you installed any other software from your PC? I use to have similar problems with early versions of WM6 after installing CE-Star (Asian languages support)
Let me konw how the device performs

PS. It is recomended after fresh flash of ROM to hardreset the device imediatley and only then start installations od applications
I just installed Schap's WM6 Pro 4.20 ROM and its running much better. It looks to be a great program. I wish the clock wasnt so huge but it all seems to run great.
I still cant get my contacts to sync though. When I put my device name in there and connect using activesync it keeps changing the device name to WM_Owner.
Im playing with it. Any more suggestions could be helpful.

Glad to hear that the device start running better
re sync issue - did you delete all mobile devices on Microsoft ActiveSync? after that you should be able to establishe a new partnership between the PC and PPC - then everything must work fine
But if i delete all of my mobile devices it will erase my saved info then my contacts will be lost for ever wont they?

You dont delete any info on your PC, only the partnership between PC and Pocket PC. This will not affect your contacts. After that should establish a new partnership - choosing all settings etc., and everything must be fine.
WARNING! Better first archive your contacts and then proceed.
I deleted one of the two relationships, WM_Owner, and it deleted the folder on my pc with all the info in it. I haven't deleted the WM_James_Klafe2 relationship yet because that's the one that should have all my contact info it it. that was the name of my phone before I installed schap's 4.2
I have it backed up, should I just delete it and see what happens when I reconnect it? should I name my 8525 WM_James_Klafe2 again?
I hate creating more clutter but I started a new thread that specially relates to this problem.

Hi Jimbo69ny,
Personally I test almost every new rom for Hermes, and every time there is a new rom on my device I do three things:
1. name the phone - e.g. WM_James_Klafe2
2. delete partnerships on the PC - do not do any backup etc.
3. establishing new partnership between the pc and ppc
thats all!
All my contacts are synced with no problem, including notes, and other stuff defined for synchronization. in fact your contacts are stored in outlook, and deleteing the partnership do not affects them at all

Damn it Ive been having one problem after another with my 8525 just when I think things are going good there is another set back.
My phone wont sync to my computer anymore. I have Schaps 4.20 installed and I installed the cube earlier today just to see what it was like because I was going to upgrade to shaps 4.3. I really liked it but I its more than I need. Now its time to upgrade and when I connect my phone to my pc i get a message that says "usb device not recognized"
What the heck is going on?
I uninstalled the cube from my ppc did 2 soft resets, restarted my computer and it still wont recognize my pcc
After two hard resets I finally got it to accept Shaps 4.3 rom. It still wouldnt do it after the 1st and 2nd hard reset but for some reason, the last time I connected it via usb, it worked.
THANK GOD! I dont know what happened and why it wouldnt connect but Im happy I fixed.
Still no contacts though

to best of my knowledge the contacts are stored in outlook. if do not have outlook on your pc i cant say what activesync will sync - my assumption is that you have, as you was able to sync some time ago, dont you?
(on my secnd pc i have outlook express and it syncs too with no problems)
which Cube you have installed? I never had such kind of problems with any cube.
the problem "usb device not recognized" happens from time to time - no idea about the exact reason. sometime it is enough to disconnect the device and connect it again, in few cases i needed to restart the computer - and then it worked with no problems. never did hardreste.
I am confused that you still cannot get your contacts synced. i guess you followed the steps i gave you previously
let me know how you forward
btw, try focussing on one issue only - get first your contacts synced

I have noticed that activesync will start silently on my WM5 device usually when another program starts (like igo/Navngo). This does not happen all the time.
I have configured it to run manually - no luck.
How can I tell how it is being started and deal with the root cause.

Ok...this isn't really an appropriate place to be posting this question as it has nothing to do with "Development and Hacking".
This question has been asked a bazillion-times. Google "activesync starts automatically" and you'll see a whole host of things for you to read up on.
My bet would be that you have your device set to automatically update the clock from the phone network. This triggers ActiveSync to start every time there is a clock update.

I'm fairly new to the Winmo scene having spent a lot of time using Palm. Back then I had little fear of my personal data falling into the wrong hands as I used many software solutions, most notably PDA Defense which not only locked and encrypted the Palm but also wiped it if fell into the wrong hands.
It's important for me that a thief can't access my data (calendar, emails, files on storage card etc.) - and a second goal would be to get the device back / know WHO took it. Even if this isn't the case for some of you; the majority of you may have spent shed-loads to get hold of this device (which I love by the way) and surely that alone makes it worth protecting your investment.
So, what I would like to know is what kind of security-strategy are you professional WM6 users following?
What do you do to maintain physical security (eg Ultimate Theft Alert) and what do you do for information security?
Lets ignore antivirus software for this thread - but I'd be grateful for not just what you use but also information about stability, performance and necessary changes in your workflow (like for backups, file recovery) etc.

By sending a text message with a password the program picks it up and sends you its coordinates using the GPS. Also sends you the number of the new sim card if it is changed.
Then you can use Google Maps to find it. It conceals itself really good and it'll take a hard reset to uninstall it and i doubt that lots of thieves out there can do it.

wow some of these suggestions sound better than what I have been doing - locking it in the gun cabinet.
I use WIMP in case the phone is lost/stolen.
For file encryption I use Spb Pocket Plus, which has a file encryption option - tap and hold gives the option to encrypt a file with password and erase the original. Tap and hold the encrypted file gives the option to decrypt. It doesn't encrypt Contacts or Calendar, only individual files.
I got Sprite Terminator for $10 extra when I got the latest Sprite Backup for my HD, it's not bad it does the GPS thing over SMS and you can remotely lock the phone etc.
Well, remotely locking the phone is fine, but it works only as long as the thief doesn't remove the SIM card (or simply turn off the radio). What I would really appreciate is a PIN request for opening certain files and/or applications (like work mail account).

I really liked Sprite Terminator after using a few of them. The only problem I had with all of them was their ability to get the GPS signal. I'm therefore looking for not so much being able to locate where they are, but just the ability to wipe data, lock phone, get the details of the new sim card, and the telephone number of the thief's friends.

I pay for Sherweb hosted exchange, but if you dont want to pay or have no need for it, just sign up for free hosted exchange at mail2web, set up on your phone but disable what you dont need (eg email/calendar/contacts sync) and you should still be able to initiate remote system wipe whenever you want
Built-in options
WM 6 itself has two built-in features that can be used to address this - pass code request and encryption (SD). If your phone is lost unless the thief knows the PIN, he cannot access the phone. Even if he resets the phone (lost of internal data), he cannot access the content of the SD as it was encrypted. However, encrypting the whole SD may imply overhead to the system, affecting W/R performance.

I'm using sprite terminator with no issues. Installed with no problems and easy to set up. One slight drawback though is that there is no option to set the gps timeout. Even though the HD GPS is quite sensitive, it can take a while to get a sat lock indoors - especially if the phone is in another location /town since the last sat lock. Sprite terminator times out the gps after 1 - 2 mins.
Looking at sprites forum, this has been reported, and apparently they are looking at adding this option.
You might also wanna look at GuardMobile from Germany, similar to Sprite Terminator. Maybe you can let us know your evaluation of the two, I only use GuardMobile.

WIMP is not properly hidden on the phone. It still appears in the "remove programs" list so a thief can easily check if it is installed or not on the phone. Also it has no manual and there are some menu items that I dont get. I have written to the author but am now the wiser.

I've been trying the different programs and during testing none of them are working. WIMP doesn't sent messages back when it receives the command. Is that because the GPS port settings? Com Port and Baud Rate? what are the default settings for a blackstone? I tried MASPware but again there didn't seem any way to veryify the program was working before I buy it. Same goes with UTA mobile. I just want a reliable program that if i misplace the device, i send a sms and it sends me back a location. suggestions?

I got my HD2 yeasterday flashed it to 1.66 before I even put a sim in it and its been working really well. O2 even sent me a phone I could flash from HTC's website.
One is is that after maybe 1 hour or 4 hours windows live mobile will fail to connnet to msn and pull down emails. Restarting the phone is the only fix.
I have unticked the proxy setting just for it to retick when I click OK. Everything else will work fine just WLM will stop working.
Any ideas why and how to fix it as it is a very helpful feature?
Same, WLM is just useless. It will crash after about an hour starting by "the wireless network is currently unavailable" even if it is, at which point it's impossible to force it to disconnect, to close it, and it will hang task managers that try to enumerate the running processes so no way to kill it. After several long minutes it will finally say "you've been disconnected" stops hanging everything and can be closed, but relaunching it and trying to reconnect will only give a "network is unavailable" popup straight away before it even tries to connect. Usually it will cause lockups to other programs too in its wake, forcing a reboot.
I'd really appreciate a solution or alternative. Slick crashes with memory errors, IMPlus only manages to connect to msn half the time even if other protocols always work... I just can't find any msn client that actually works.

Please post which version of WLM you are using (or is it just the one with the stock rom?).
I`m using an updated version and it's working flawlessly here (although it had problems syncing in the beginning).

I have loaded your first link onto my phone and we shall see how it goes. I have noticed if i leave MSN signed in it seems to do stop syncing and when i sign out msn the email works again.

I met the exact same problem. So I have to find a 3rd party IM software Beejive IM.
But it's pretty strange that in WM system, we even can't use MSN.
Hope some one could fix the problem.

I don't use this software, but have you attempted to edit the registry?
EG what is the proxy it defaults to?
Whenever I install a clean ROM, I *must* go in the registry to HKLM/Comms/ConnMgr/Providers/(something)/(something)/Proxy and clear the key - otherwise youtube NEVER works.
The reason behind this is because everytime you load youtube, Youtube assumed ^that proxy was the one you needed, so it copied the value to HKLM/Software/HTC/Youtube/ProxyName, and nothing worked.
I'm assuming similar behavior is happening here?
So my question is: WHAT proxy is it automatically using?
It can't be a proxy issue, because as mentioned msn works, just that it will "crash" after about 1hr of use, and only then won't connect anymore until the next soft reset.

Anyway; instead of just complaining I want to make it better and try the new version in the supplied link above. There is a notification however about deleting the older version existig on the phone before installing the new version. Question: how to delete the old version?? It's not in the programlist...

It asks if you want to uninstall, just answer "yes" and it does (or does not, but who cares, it does install the new one afterwards )
The one in the link was the same I already had though, so no help. I'm using IM+ lite now. Not perfect, but at least it works.

Just wondering, why dont you use the default mail client on WM(setup the mail account) and for messenger, use parlingo? I too had my run with Windows live messenger failing me. I actually did what i've typed and became a happier man. Maybe you like to try that?
i use only exchange email sync and that works perfekt. Lets me have gmail on outlook exchange. But it sux that we cant use a microsoft product full out on a windows phone, makes no sense. All rom cookers seem to given up on msn messenger. But setting hotmail only to sync "as ithems arrive" works great.
Yeah I use Palringo but WLM has much better visuals, ah well I'll give up on it aswell.
