T4243??? - Touch Cruise 2 General

I picked up an HTC Lolite on eBay and the seller said he bought it new from:
http://www.expansys-usa.com/d.aspx?i=178100
now, i did my research before purchasing and it does have the Qualcomm processor and according to Expansys, it does have the 850 band however when i got the phone and looked at device identifier, it states the phone as a T4242....
and here's even the more odd part, the OS: Win Mo 6.5 but according to most sites i've seen, it ships with 6.1.
now, before saying it's a fake, i did get the whole hoopla of accessories that comes with this phone. everything points to an updated 6.5 OS for the phone but i didn't know they released one for this phone or did i miss this piece of info during my research...
thanks for any information anyone can clear up. i need an US/NA 850 band 3G Lolite. do they make it or not? thanks!!

Hello, perhaps you have an original phone but it is flashed with a custom 6.5 Rom....check start/system/device info and see what it says.

oh no.. it's an HTC ROM alright. Boots up and does all the HTC TouchFlo and everything else.
this does perplex me very much.

Check Rom version and date.......

htc magic question...pleese help

Hi, i am planing to buy the htc magic this weekend with vodafone australia.
I heard the the sense ui (hero rom) will be an update for the device in the neer future.
but i also heard that it will only be coming to specific magic devices...something about weather it has google written on it or something.
I was wondering weather anyone has any idea on weather the htc magic with Vodafone Australia will be getting this update.
If this is not possible i know i am able to root my device and get the sense UI. But will it work just as good as on the hero? As it only has 192mb ram and 288 on hero.
also, if i am going to have to root the device. Does anyone have the stock rom for the australian vodafone magic?
I am warried that i will not be able to find the right rom as vodafone australia has made their own little teaks to the rom, and if its any different it will void my warrenty. :S
P.S If there is any reason why i should not buy this phone, PLEESE TELL ME.
P.P.S I know theres no bluetooth for file sharing yet but i also heard theres an app called bluexx or somthing. I heard for some countries this app doesnt work... has anyone in australia got bluetooth to work?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE! AND SORRY FOR LONG POST.
OMG...i just found out that if u buy the phone with three then it hasn't got the with google written on the back....and on the three version it has 288mb ram instead of the 192mb with vodafone.
So if you buy the phone with three you get updates??
and if you buy it with vodafone you don't?
that's a scam...
It's a shame because vodafone is offering a much better deal, i guess this is why.
i'll still probly end up rooting it. so all other questions still need answering badly.
PLEASE HELP
AND THANKS

ahhh thank you very much!
just what i wanted
I am starting to lean towards the hero though :S
The only differences between the two are,
multitouch,
Teflon coating,
5mp camera,
flash player 10
umm
I think that multitouch on the magic actually works
and I'm pretty sure you can get flash player for magic aswell?
could anyone confirm that these are the only differences?
and if the other 2 can be added on magic?

flash is available on hero rom.
multi-touch is avail on hero rom
I can see your issue but here is the main thing- here in australia, the magic is here and now- here- no wrranty issues (if buying OS), the Hero wont be here for another month or 2 and oyu know that release dates often get pushed back, by the time it is released there will be an even faster/prettier phone being released 2months after......
I love my magic- wasnt sure i would, just wanted the 3 half price data plan...was gonna sell on ebay and keep my g1.....now for limestar's super android phone (see whirlpool forums) coming at the end of the year....the magic will do me until then.....

Has any1 found a turn by turn voice navigation (gps) software for a android phone? if so can someone please link me?
P.S. please don't refer me to something that uses data useage... i understand the software may cost, but i don't want to be paying for internet usage.
THANKS
For turn by turn get copilot. Not free but way less than standalone GPS, and best of all you download the maps to SD so they're always there and NO data usage

It seems there's only Australian maps with winmo.

Whoops. Sorry didn't see you're in Oz - CoPilot site lists it as coming soon, I'm UK where maps already out.
Don't think there is any other Turn By Turn app on the market at the moment
You in Melbourne? If so let me know and I'll take you through the ADP1 and ION phones to show you what the difference in memory means in terms of performance.

i guess if the ram doesn't make much difference to the hero rom speed,
ill get the vodafone 1
its 59 a month and 500mb data and $350 credit.
its 58 a month on three with only 150 credit haha.
ohhh, and with copilot, i heard that it's going to be getting australian maps next month or so.
seems as it has a picture of hero with copilot, im guessing it will come out when hero does?? anyone with more information on that pleese tell. ^.^
I have the vadaphone $59 plan and it great.
Small issue though that after 2 days of excitement and grabing as much as I can from the market, mid stream using the internet explorer someone rang and the unit haulted. After a reset I had the android boot loop which forced me to change the rom.
I went and uploaded the Fatality Hero, its great but slowish at times, internet seems slower and 3g not working.
Is there an aussie rom that has the hero roms that work with our 3g.

This is probably something you've already tried but if 3g is not working make sure your APN settings are filled out correctly as it may not have auto-detected. Had this issue with dad's Magic (he bought one outright the day he saw mine delivered from 3).
Beautiful device. Though I hope we'll still get Android 2.0 when it hits because from what I hear most of the Android devices next year will be on Snapdragon (1 ghz chip) which will probably **** on the magic hardware wise. Still a while away yet.

HTC HD2 vs HD2 T-Mobile

I've read around, as I am considering buying the HD2 very very soon (either I buy the HTC HD2 in the next month when I will be in the US or wait for a friend to go there someday, who knows when, to buy the T-Mobile....) My doubt is of course because of the small (not so small?) differences between the two. I posted this on another thread but got no luck, so I hope to be more noticed here...
I would like to summarize my options and clear up some doubts with the generous posters here:
- Everywhere it says HD2 US comes only in Spring. I assume it will only be available at T-Mobile after March or later. Expansys told me they expect it mid-march. Thus not in time if I want it in February during my trip.
- HD2 Europe vs US: 3G Bands, RAM and ROM. Any other difference?
- HD2 Europe: If HTC Sense is taken out there shall be plenty of ROM space for WM7 (if WM 7 is ever released for the HD2) and say about 100MB for applications (I don't care about installing many applications in ROM - just 100 MB or so)? Most agree with this? - This is my main doubt along with:
- HD2 US: can the camera pink hue be once and for all fixed (many people complain about it even after patching) with this new version of HD2? The Overexposure of Flash as well? - second main doubt.
I thank you so much for any help.

may be the t mobile version will not work in your region where you are from
Thanks. I guess the frequencies are the same. Only problem is with 3G. But then I'll have problems with both as my area is 850Mhz. I have bought from T-mobile US before and had no problems with other stuff.
it's a no brainer as far as i would be concerned. swap full connectivity (it won't work right unless you are using t mobile us)for some extra rom that probably won't make any difference in the win 7 will it/won't it argument? not me, get yourself a "normal"one and forget the t mo one would be my advice.

it would be better if you get a hd2 from australlia it has the same frequency as yours look at these specifications http://www.htc.com/au/product/hd2/specification.html and with respect to the extra rams and rom we discovered that hd2 normal has extra rams and activated now developers are searching now for extra rom

the different radios use different hardware, flashing a new rom won't alter the frequencies it will or won't work with.

Oh, you were talking about the Radio hardware itself. Yeah, I knew I would have to compromise my 3G with both the US and Europe version, although other bands would be fine. But this Australian option changes the picture. I'll take a look thanks to both.

flashing, no problem, sim unlocking has been an issue for some people (there currently isn't a do it yourself unlocker, only web sites selling unlock codes, which some people say doesn't always work.)
am sure that will only be a temporary problem though...
Just to say thanks to you two who have been helping me. I've just placed an order for HD2 Telstra as suggested by hoss_n2. Grateful.

Getting my HD2 - What to do first?

Ok awaiting delivery of my HD2, what should I do with it first?
What must have software should I download for it?
The first thing you should do is charche the phone
After that find yourself a good rom .
And aply tweaks that are suitable for you .

first search about bsb tweaks it is the most useful app for hd2 and keep away from using flash light applications as it may damage your camera flash with continous using ,finally upgrade to the official 1.66 roms from htc site it is better than any coocked rom till now and more stable. best wishes with your new device ,it is really a good device
Read <<THIS>> first as this will enable you to tap into the great work of the chefs who have redefined how the device should truely work....faster and better!

I recall hearing that TMO don't supply the pouch (I'm only going off memory so I could be wrong).
charge phone then check if your phone has the latest Rom version , if not then upgrade.

there is no changelog from htc's site. it's just a small "updated" t-mo uk ROM, still based on the very first 1.43 ROMs. i wont call it an update at all. FYI, this so called update has been made available in xda for a long time now. i've downloaded it and compared the Hash, and they are 100% identical.
omg!
if this is the update i've waited 3 months for then heads are gonna roll!
is it actually the exact same rom as before?
what the hell was the point in it?

It's not even an update. Its the exact same version number that I have on my original ROM T-Mobile HD2 - ROM Version:1.43.110.2.
And yes, I still have my original ROM. It works okay for what I do, and want to stick with official ROMs if possible. Maybe in the future if T-Mobile don't give a real update, or I hit serious issues, but for now I'd like to keep my warranty intact. I'm aware I can re-flash it easily back to the original ROM (even more so now that ROM is officially available to download) - however my concern is over times when I get a fault which means I cannot re-flash it.
i'm on the original t-mobile rom and find it suitable. the only real change ive made is to revert back to the windows messaging set up, not htc messages.
how many people on the original rom have had problems with HTC messaging?
The disclaimer says:
* This is a generic software update. Any additional software or settings provided by your mobile operator or company will be lost. If you require this customization, please contact your supplier first before upgrading.
This may 'unlock' t-mobile from their current position and allow them the HTC rom upgrade path.

Interesting point, however I suspect it's a standard disclaimer they put onto their ROM downloads. Would be interesting though for someone to confirm?
Well, someone try and download it using their S/N and try flashing. Worst that happens is it says 'Incorrect Vendor ID'

I tried it just incase it was generic but that was a a massive waste of time, as far as I can see this rom is identical to the factory version.

so my thread is gone?..so...

Well I asked a question earlier today about receiving an HD2 and wanting to know how i find out if its a TMO usa version. There is no TMO branding on the phone, but when i start it up with my TMO sim in it..it says choose network. I have a choice of TMO or something else..dont remember..started with a T i think.....So..what version phone do I have ..and why was my thread deleted? in the first place. I think I have a legit question.
thankyou
settings tab - about phone - hardware info-flash size.
if it says 1024 its a tmous however more direct hints are.... is it from t mobile usa? does it have red and green start and end buttons? if no, then its not.
yeah ok it says flash size is 512. So this isnt a Tmo usa version. It was given to me today from someone at HTC, so i didnt know what version it is...so it works with my TMO sim..but no 3g I assume....
So is there a serial number or something so I can find out exactly what model I have?
thankyou

look in the back of the phone, if it doesnt have the nextG/Telstra branding below the battery cover, then it's a T8585. If it does, then it's a T9193. And like others have said, TmoUS version has a big-ass T-mobile logo right below the earphone with green/red call/hang-up buttons (not to mention flash size of 1024MB).
