I Have to restart phone to regain GPRS connetion every now and then. I have radio version 1.01.00 and rom version 1.03.00 WWE. My provider is Vodafone in sweden.
If I go to flight mode and back to normal then I can connect to GPRS again. Should I uppgrade my I-Mate to get it to work? Any Ideas what to do?
I've heard of people with similar problems, you need to upgrade your Rom, if you wanna stay relatively safe, upgrade to:
Rom Version: 1.72.00WWE
U can get this from club imate
I'm afraid I can´t find the rom on the Imate Club site. But you belive my problem will be solved by uppgrading the rom right? I´ll have to search for it then. ;c) Thanks.
I sure don't see any version 1.72 on Club iMate at JAM Device Support. The latest available upgrade I see is:
Radio 1.01.00
ROM 1.03.143 WWE
Where do you see version 1.72?
Frank
I believe he's referring to the wrong device. 1.72 was for the I-Mate Pocket PC - not the Jam.
Ok. I have posted a case to Imate and they where about to send a file to correct the problem but I got an emty mail.
Imate support don't know what this is. I'm back on the hunt. Anybody else having the same problem with theirs? Please let me know in this thred
Sincere Apologies, I was in fact dreferring to the I-mate....didnt realise this thread was under magician
Got an ansver from Imate. They sent me an PDF file where they showed me how to set up the GPRS connection. The problem is, been there and done that. I’m totally lost here. Is it only me who has this problem with “magican” and Vodafone? (In Sweden). Frustrating! ;c(
Note: With my P800 and the same location and same SIM = no probem at all.
I have the exact same problem with Vodafone gprs in Sweden
Hi Robert
I have the exact same problem with GPRS. I am also a customer of Vodafone in Sweden. I have this problem regardless of the device I am using. I have been running Qtek 2020, 8010, 9090 and S100 (magician) devices with the same problem for quite a while now.
I have started to think that this is not a device problem. It is probably a problem with Vodafone GPRS. I have contacted their tech support a couple of times about this. So far we have tried disabling/reenabling GPRS on my account and switching to new Sim-cards. None of this has worked so far.
I am using their twin cards service switching between different phones, I am not sure if this has anything to do with the problem.
best regards
Christofer
Thanks a lot for giving me this feedback. I'll talk to Vodafone right away.
Solution: I know that Telia supports the magican device because they have them for sale. My solution was to call Telia and tell them that I wanted to use them instead. Its a covards solution but Imate blames Vodafone and Vodafone blames Imate.
I have an old Qtek1010 on Telia, and it is behaving just like your Magician on Vodaphone. Sometimes I have to actually remove the SIM and put it back in again to be able to reconnect.
Another question about the Magician and GPRS. I have read on a couple of forums that the Magician will not keep the GPRS connection alive when in "sleep mode". Is this true? If so I may have to quickly cancel my order...

My gprs connection seems to stay connected ok even when the machine is switched "off". I have an imate jam on o2 in the UK.
I don't know if it stays on forever because i tend to log off gprs so i can go on line through bluetooth.
Simon
This is really bad news. I thought that since Telia do have thoose phones for sale they should have tested them in the net. In that case I should start thinking of going back to my old P800 instead of changing provider.
I Wonder if there are someone in here who it works for in sweden. Please let me know.
I have several collegues who are not experiencing these problems with Qtek devices on Vodafone network. So it does not seem to be a general problem.

I just talked to Telia today as my GPRS broke down totally and there was just nothing that would make it connect. The person I talked to was very helpful and professional and we managed to isolate the problem to my SIM card. Being a brand new SIM I received just two weeks ago I though that just anything but the SIM would be more probable. It was very evident though as my SIM would not work with GPRS in neither mine nor a colleauges phone but the colleauges SIM would work just fine in both.
My new SIM will arrive on monday, and then hopefully it will not be too long before my S100 arrives as well
Ok, thats somewhat god news. Then there is hope to accually use this expensive piece of toy as it is suppose to.
Some input…
I have a Qtek S100 and run it with Telia. Works just fine, never have to reset or remove the SIM. However, I have problem with the GPRS to disconnect when synchronized with my PC and when using the phone. Have heard that an app called GPRS Keep Alive would solve that problem, haven’t tried it yet.

It will not. For two reasons:
1. There can only be one network connection at a time, and the activesync connection counts as a network connection (you can use network passthrough to use the activesync connection for network access from the PPC).
2. You can not have a GSM voice connection and an active GPRS connection simultaneously because they share the same radio hardware. Simultaneous GPRS and Voice would need two radios in the phone, and although it has been part of the GSM specification for quite some time there are no such device available on the consumer market yet.
Hi all,
i just took my O2 Exec and i have some basic questions that seek for an answer quickly...
I cannot understand whether there is a simlock there or no... i put in there my sim card (Voda UK) and some strange things happen. i sometimes get a UMTS vodafone uk signal and other times a gprs one... Like every five minuits the G turns in to a U and so on.... What do i need to do???is there a simlock and if so how do i unlock?
How do i hard reset my phone and what ROM should i use?
Were can i get the Voda UK settings for mms and gprs?
Is there anything else that i should set in order to have a fully functioning mobile for sms, mms, voice calls?
and a not important one... shouldnt there be the skype software in my phone?
I know that i should search and find what i want but i am in the the midle of an assignment and i do not have the time to do so... Just need to have my phone functioning properly until i have the time to dig out the rest of the things that i want.So just forgive me for asking insted of searching.Wont happen again.
HELP ME
Excuse my bad english...
Thanx all

It is just moving between UMTS and GPRS. Mine does it too. If it can't get a good enough signal on UMTS it switches to GPRS. If it sees a better UMTS signal, it switches back.
How do i hard reset my phone and what ROM should i use?
Two soft buttons while pressing stulus reset hole. Nothing wrong with the O2 ROM so stick with that.
Were can i get the Voda UK settings for mms and gprs?
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
Is there anything else that i should set in order to have a fully functioning mobile for sms, mms, voice calls?
See above
and a not important one... shouldnt there be the skype software in my phone?
Only the JASJAR and MDAPro come with Skype IIRC.
Thank you for the extremely fast and accurate reply.
So there is no problem with the U and G thing. Ok then i will just get used to it. It was that i have never seen the U before.
U means 3G and fast data speeds.
it seems that i cannot manage to do the right settings so that my sms, mmsa dn gprs works. I found the settings but...no combination worked.
Anyway, is there a how to or something that i can check out?
Any other ideas?
Many thanx

You can install Skype yourself from the Skype website, but IMHO it's not ready yet. It's very slow and buggy, and the connection quality is questionable.
Wait a month or two until Skype is fully compatible with WM5 and the experience will be much better!
I am getting really confused here......
I managed to fix my gprs 3g settings (following a wm 2003 quide and using the settings from filesaveas) and i can surf the net but i still cannot receive and send any mms.
Any ideas????
HELP!!!
edit: Also is there anybody that has active sync 4.1? i cannot even syncronise my contacts.!

Not sure if this will help. I have the M5000 (Orange) version and video calls work fine - I just havent found a need for it yet!!
Matt
i probably wont have a need for it as such but, im one of these guys that likes stuff to be working 100%, wether or not i need it, because sum day i might need it, i get the internet ok using the umts its just video calls
maybe some descritpion or error message would help. I'm calling my wife with video everyday on mine.
it just says unable to make video call, do u want to make a normal voice call instead, sumthing like that neway
Who is your provider, I bought my Exec through One Stop and therefore I pay my monthly bill to Carphone Warehouse even though I am with O2, like you I could not get Video calls to work and got the same message. After contacting CPW I was told they do not support 3G and all I can get is the GPRS connection.
At £2.35 a megabyte!!!
:x
yes. It's probably an operator issue. MAke sure you don't have a wifi connection when trying to use video or it will not work.
You need to make sure both you and the person receiving the call has the facilty set up on the tariff you are using.
Just having gprs is not enough.
Phone them and make sure they activate the necessary other setting.
Do you have GPRS or UMTS connected (for push email, perhaps). I found that if I had an active GPRS or UMTS data connection, video calling did not work. When I closed the connection it worked fine.
Mark

O2 Ireland does not offer video calling yet (though it's 3G network is set-up, and it's *aparently* only a matter of time)....
k im in northern ireland, im with o2 uk, belfast is were i get my 3g signal
I have problems getting video calls to work too. The error message I get is "Video Call Fails".
I'm on Vodafone UK but with an Xda Exec on the latest QTek ROM. Talk about identity crisis. Got push email working so it can't be my UMTS connection.
thats wat i get aswell, has any 1 any solution or is it a replacement exec that i'll need?
same thing
same thing for me in france, it worked fine with original rom but upgrading to latests roms and radios makes it wrong.
even if i install all ext rom of original rom ( i saved it)
currently rom 1.30.97 fre with radio 1.11 with sfr provider
well, i dont know if it is a rom problem with me cos i never really used it back then it was shortly after i upgraded to the latest o2 rom that i first tried the video call, although i had tried it b4 but got the same thing, i have never got the video calling to work
Hi there,
I live in Sydney Australia and have just travelled to Singapore on business. Unfortunately my JAMin refuses to connect to any of the local networks.
On previous trips, my O2 Xda II mini worked just fine. This is the first time I've travelled overseas with my new JAMin, and it just won't work.
I've looked at all of the Network settings and nothing seems to be wrong. I can even manually scan for the local networks in Singapore but cannot connect to any of them.
I upgraded my radio rom a few weeks back to the latest version (2.47.21) - do you think this could have caused the problem? I've just downgraded the radio rom (firstly to 2.20.21 and then 2.30.21) to see if that helps but still no go at all.
HELP! I can't be off the air for the entire trip.
p.s. My prophet is a G3 device and I used the correct ROMS. The phone works perfectly in Australia (Vodafone).

Have you already ruled out a Vodafone screw up or problems in the international connection? Usually if you can see the networks then your phone is working, if you can't attach to them then either signalling is not reaching your home network or your Home Location Register configuration doesn't allow roaming.
Try to contact Vodafone in Australia and report the problem. I doubt it is something with your phone.

Yes, you were correct. It was Vodafone's fault.
I've travelled with the same SIM for the past few years without problem so I assumed that my Radio ROM upgrade was probably at fault. When I called Vodafone Australia today they confirmed that when we changed some account details a few months back, their computer defaulted all of our phones back to "no roaming". Very unhelpful indeed! I'd now like the 2.5 hours sleep I lost last night trying to get the friggin' thing working!!!!
Thanks for your response.
i have a cingular 8525 and since yesterday, it keeps dropping my gsm service completely. like i look at my phone and there is an "X" on the service bars, and the service LED is not flashing. if i soft reset the device, or shut the phone part off and back on, it picks up service again (full bars, as usual). also, i tried plugging my SIM back into my old treo 650, and i dont see this problem. is it related to the 3g network? i haven't made any software changes since yesterday. faulty hardware? really frustrating, help would be appreciated. thanks.

shouldnt be caused by the 3g network, do you have the white 3G sim with the orange flaming 3G on it? This could also very well be hardware or the radio... so many variable with this... i would vote for 3 possible issues, either hardware, radio rom, or sim card.. take your pick.. the sim will be the easiest to try, if you dont have the white 3G then just walk into a cingular store, tell them they sold you the 8525 without the 3G sim and they will replace it for free.. well they did with me anyway

the only disconcerting thing is that i had the HTC TyTn for a month before i got the 8525, and i never had this problem with it, same sim and everything.
here's a thread about it on the cingular customer forums, people having the same problem with their 8525's

good point... i can say that i have had signal issues with both 1.16 and 1.20 radio but not to the extent that you are having, and the new sim solved alot of issues for me in the beginning.. Now i dont have any issues when in a GSM area, only seem to have issues in a 3G area
ok got the new SIM Card, but the problem persists. hardware?
I've had the Cingular 8525 for a week and it has one of the newer 64MB SIM cards (same that the Sierra AirCard 860 uses and required for 3G network access). I haven't had any call dropping problems at all. If it persists I'd get a replacement ASAP.

got myself a brand new 8525 from my local cingular store at the end of last week, and the problem persists. i also have one of the new flaming 3G SIM cards. the only thing i can think of now is the network in my area. any other thoughts/ideas?

did not have this problem prior to getting the 8525. had a tytn for a few weeks and didn't experience this (although it did have the screen alignment problem which is why i had to get rid of it). i have had the problem with both 8525's. my radio version is 1.16.00.00
Can't add much to the discussion...but I have an SPV M31000 (Orange Tytn Flavor) And ahve the same issue when in an area which switches between UTMS and EDGE. It also appears it will sometimes lock a call.
I can't add too much either. I've got an 8525, and I do experience the issue at my company's current office (thankfully not the one I actually work out of though, as I'm at a client site and rarely at the home office). I find my issue seems to be specifically with being on a fringe area of UMTS/GPRS. GPRS is a much stronger signal that the UMTS, so I see it swapping frequently. Sometimes it drops completely. Weird thing is though that it doesn't happen all the time..

sounds pretty much like what is happening to me. the annoying part is that it doesn't pick up the signal automatically again once i'm out of that fringe area. if that was the case i could live with it, but i miss calls all the time because of this.
HTC TyTn Cingular 8525 Sim and other issues
I have an HTC TyTn since October 12, 2006, and have had a great deal of problems, but none in Japan while traveling, only in the US. Cingular is constatntly changing and upgrading its services, its servers and its policies. My SIM which worked until 12/26//06 never allowed a SMS message through since then? It seems now to be caused by the fact that I have the old SIM, but was never a problem till Cingular upgraded its towers?
The Phone portion will not work well in the UMTS mode, and the techs say that it is because the towers are not all turned on as yet in my area. If you try and have the Outlook and lets say AOL turned on to download, when the phone is in GPRS mode, your calls are blocked when the AOL goes out to check for mesages. The techs say it is not the same on UMTS. The UMTS uses more battery, but especially if the phone is looking for messages often to other than Outlook. Of course the programs never close, even IE, unless you shut them down manually in settings/system/memory/running programs.
