Looking for plain 2.1 OTA ROM with root - Droid Eris Android Development

I own a droid, but my wife has an eris, so sorry, but I am not overly familiar with the ROM scene on the Eris. I have done some looking tonight and have not been able to find a 2.1 OTA based ROM to load for her. I would like for her to keep root since she uses WiFi tether with her iPad.
Is there anything out there like this? She likes the stock Sense UI look, so I am looking for just the plain OTA, which I assume looks pretty much like 1.6 did.
Thanks!

i might be wrong but i didnt find a wireless teather in the plain jane rom.....

Go to the market and download wireless tether... If you're looking for a basic OTA rom... download jcase's plain jane rom.... next time use the search.

download it off the market, type in "root" in the search bar.

My wife was the same. Honestly check out pure Eris Rom. Test them all till she finds one she likes. The 2.1 sucks compared to all the roms.

HTC Magic official ROM update with Sense Released... Anything new?

Anyone have a friend or family member with a Magic?
I'd be curious to see if there's any new features that could potentially be ported to our Hero.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/29/htc-magics-sense-update-ready-for-download
Looks like they have a pull port of Eclair as well. I bet we could steal their sense for our AOSP builds, problem with that IMHO: Most of the people running AOSP want Vanilla - The push to get it in and working would be minimal. Sense is sadly not as simple as installing an APK.

Why would you want to add Sense to an AOSP build? That's basically your stock ROM minus some of the crap apps crammed on there, which is already available.

It is 1.6.
My co-worker has one and likes to remind of the fact that it came pre-installed on his MyTouch.
EDIT: Correction, he got it OTA. I'm running AOSP1.6 now anyway so... screw him!

Anyone switching to the official OTA ROM from a custom ROM?

Reasons for and/or against? Are the bugs and constant upgrades aggravating enough to move to a boring, but somewhat more stable official ROM?
No way, man! This is much too fun to abandon!

Big thumbs up here. How else would I waste my Saturday nights?
Just hold off until 2.1 OTA is rooted and get the best of both.
Leak4base ROM includes the same software and radio versions as the OTA, so you won't be missing much by waiting.

lol... not to mention all my other nights in between!
anyone that wants to lose root to get the ota needs to have their head examined in my humble opinion.
Yeah i wouldnt give up root for the ota, that would be like trading a corvette for a geo metro. But i did do a little test between a non root 1.5 and 2.1 eris vs my rooted eris on the Icm3 Rom v1.0 and it was like a night and day differance my rooted eris was seriously twice as fast when loading web pages and was way more responsive. SO IM STAYING ROOTED NO OTA FOR THIS GUY.

Froyo upgrade path for Google Ion (dev phone)?

So with T-Mobile releasing Froyo for Magic, is there an official Froyo update for ADP2 (Google Ion) from Google or HTC? Should one be expected?
Post removed by me
If you mean semi-officialy, there will soon. As you've deduced, the Mt3G is a rebranded magic, just like your ION. We're just waiting for someone to dump the ROM, so it can be packaged up ready to flash. You'll need root for that of course.
The Froyo source code has been out for a few months, so you could have installed Froyo ages ago. I'm currently using a community build on my magic, but I'm going to flash Tmo's build just to see if they've changed anything.
Personally I don't see Google or HTC releasing Froyo officially fo the ION. If they were going to they would have done ages ago. So if you want 2.2 you're going to have to flash a custom ROM.

Oh, I've been running CM6 on it for a while, I was wondering about update coming from either Google and/or HTC (just as I have posted).
PS. My Ion came with Eng SPL and rooted -- there was no need to do anything to flash any of the community ROMs.

It's just a matter of time before tmo's build gets dumped. Either way, it will be a lot better than *shudder* CM6.

CM6 doesn't " run like crap ", there is some things that we would like for it to have but 2.2 to g1's and Mytouch's was completely out of reach and Cyanogen gave it to us and remember that it's only 6.0, there will be more releases. Partition your SD Card the right way and maybe it wouldn't run like crap for you... maybe. I'm not sayin' I'm just sayin'.
And lets not forget Cyan gave us 2.1 and T-mobile NEVER acknowledged it.

Each to their own, I guess. In my experience it's slow and straight-up AOSP is way faster. Partition how? I don't need ext, swap is a con, really.
Ok, its one thing to stand up for CM6 another to blindly nut hug.
CM6 sucked....
Not only did i ditch CM6 for Biffmod, i ditched all root for 1.6 and im loving it.
CM6 could never keep a single thing opened.
Yes, i had my card paritioned right, yes i had custom MTD partitions for massive internal memory, yes i used firerats swap patch for CM6 and swap option in Biffmod, NO nothing would stay open.

New ROMS based on what??? We have HTC Sense ROMs for Eclair 2.1 and Froyo 2.2 and AOSP CM 6.1. What else are you looking?
Personally I hate visiting the other device forums because everybody and their brother has 'cooked' up another ROM (mostly just new themes or added favorite apps). IMO who has time to stiff through all the various ROMs and threads? I find it much easier to review 3 different ROM threads and try to help others than to try and go through 10 or 15 threads and seeing messages such as 'well this worked on this ROM but it doesn't on that ROM, why not?'
OK, I'll get off my soap box now...
I agree. Plenty of good variety in the ROMs we have.

There's nothing wrong with that actually. Sometimes it's a good thing because there are more people developing towards something greater. We have 1 or 2 guys doing all this work. There are some pretty badass ROMs for the more popular phones out there. If we had more people developing and cooking, we'd no doubt have something better than what we have even now.
Screw those giant phones.
But a little more ROMS would be cool, we just need more people with the Aria.
It's not a bad phone...hah.
What would you like to see in a new ROM?

Not too sure, as I have only had the Aria and used the two ROMS.
it's not a bad thing that we may only have 3 roms, but they are actually good quality roms, not just thrown together, and they are constantly being updated, but it would be kool if they had more help with them. Although i wish they had some people creating or porting themes, if i knew how i would, if anybody wanna help me learn, i wouldn't mind contributing by making themes for the aria, cause i kno i'm not the only one wishing they could have a theme to try out

I recently rooted and installed CM6.1.0RC2, and only thing I'd say it's missing is Flash Lite compared to Sense. Wish there was a way to get Flash Lite on CM, sadly not possible. Still loving CM though. Might test Sense again when there's an official Froyo update from AT&T and attn1 has taken out all the bloatware.

That's right folks- get your supercharged Froyo sense goodness now with the newer kernel source released by HTC for the HTC legend. Everything works as far as I know, except for the built in wifi hotspot app for which we have replaced with the working Wireless Tether app thanks to the work of shakerhero. Final thanks go to attn1 and jznomoney for their hard work on the CM kernel, ladios for bundling up the kernel, trackpad wake fix, and wireless tether in a single, proper package.

[Q] New Epic, what to do?

Ok, So I just switched from the Evo over to my Samsung Epic and Not sure if i made the right move. Not a fan of Eclair(android 2.1) and I have not heard good news about the leaked 2.2 for the epic. I'm wondering whats an ideal setup on the epics. Do I upgrade to the leaked 2.2 and get a nice rom?(viperrom looks pretty decent) or do i stick with 2.1 and get a nice rom on that end?those who have a favorite tell me why and let me know some of the pros n cons.
P.S Hi new to forum
I would pick a nice 2.1 rom and wait for official Froyo to launch. There are some bugs with DK28 that are annoying as hell when they occur. None of the things that DK28 fixes are absolutely necessary, such as the much improved GPS. GPS still functions on 2.1, just not nearly as well as on Froyo.
You're kidding, right? GPS sucks on Froyo.

I ran syndicaterom for a while. It was very stable and nice. You can also pick a kernel to use in conjunction with whatever rom you use. Stock kernel is very stable obviously, but if you have concerns about battery life or something like that, or feel a need to overclock, there are kernels available that offer that. SyndiateRom comes with the Xtreme kernel if you flash the "Full" release, if I am remembering correctly. It is a very good all around kernel, although Phoenix 1.43 was always the best with regards to battery life for me.

Odin to dk28, one click root, then install bonsai rom and optionally install a theme.
With this setup my GPS works better than it has for any other phone (lock in 5-10 seconds). Flash works, and the system flies. Not many cons that I'm aware of.

Mine is spot on....running EXT4 and custom ROM
If you want working GPS and Flash support in the browser go with a leaked DK28 ROM (ViperROM w/ EXT4 is my personal favorite). GPS is better than ever on Froyo - it actually works now! Extremely well at that... There is a process for going to DK28 and making the GPS happy, as long as you follow that process you'll be in great shape. I really can't think of a reason to be on DI18, unless you need to go into a Sprint store for some reason.

Still overwhelmed, but I like your site's instructions, very thorough, thumbs up for that tip, I still am on stock rooted, but one of these days....at least this site is thorough...
I agree 2.2 is the way to go. The most of the problems on froyo can be pinpointed to a problem installing it. I've flashed froyo plenty of times and if you can get the gps steps down everything should be just fine. if your staying on eclair the overclocked syndicate rom is a beast.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I vote 2.2, I have it and haven't looked back. Its luck of the draw. Some get more bugs then others. I lucked out I guess.
Another vote for 2.2 here. My ROM recommendation is Quantum, it's well-supported and its developer is on top of his game. Some other ROMs include a lot of... gimmicks. Yeah, we'll go with gimmicks. (It slices, it dices, it automagically makes your internets faster!)
In any case, there's no real reason for Android 2.1. The leaked FroYo is stable at this point. If you're getting force closes then it probably means something went wrong during flash. If you can follow instructions then it's not difficult.
