Headset Too Loud - Touch2 General

The volume on the wired headset supplied with my Touch2 was too high even when the volume on the handset was set to its lowest setting. Note that the HTC handset does not have its own volume control, unlike older headsets. After reading this forum I was finally able to change the settings to something more suitable but there was a twist compared to what I had read.
On my Touch2 a file \Windows\audiopara3.csv controls the audio settings. This may be different if you got your Touch2 from a network operators. Mine was sim-free. A group of settings “PHONE_HEADSET_VOL0” to “PHONE_HEADSET_VOL5” controls the volume of the headset. The factory settings are a set of 6 hex values: 2013, 2861, 32D6, 4000, 656E, A0C2.
I changed them to 200, A00, 1000, 1600, 2000, 2600 which work well for my headset and ears.
The twist is that there are TWO sets of values with this name in the audiopara3.csv file.
The first set has “B0” at the beginning of the row but these have no effect on the sound.
You need to edit the SECOND set which has “F0” at the beginning of the row.
To do the actual editing I copied the audiopara3.csv file to a desktop PC using activesync. Make a backup copy in case you screw up the editing.
I read the csv file into a spreadsheet program like Excel or Open Office Calc to see what the actual values look like. However I edited it in Notepad because when saving the file, Notepad doesn’t add extra formatting characters, as happened to me with Excel. Because the file coped from the Touch2 is read only you will need to save a new version with a different name, delete the original and rename the new version to audiopara3.csv
Next copy the audiopara3.csv to a folder on the Touch2 using Activesync. It’s not possible to copy the file into the Windows directory using Activesync so copy it somewhere else.
Load the Total Commander utility on to your Touch2. Then use it to manually copy the edited audiopara3.csv file into the Windows folder. It will probably ask you if you want to overwrite the existing version – say Yes.
To make the new settings active, power off the Touch2 (using the “Power Off” option) and back on again.
If you screw up the changes and need to give up, delete the edited audiopara3.csv using Total Commander. If you then power the device off and on again it will get the original audiopara3.csv out of ROM.

PLAY MIDI ON UR XDA WITH FULL INSTRUMENTS

Now you can play the Polyphonic Ringtones on your XDA-I,Qtek1010,Siemens SX56,MDA-1 and T-Mobile with full instruments just by installing this file into your device  :
- MIDI56.sa.CAB
How to:
1- Copy the MIDI56.sa.CAB into your xda to any place you want then open the Explorer from your XDA,goto the folder you pasted the file in then click on the file after that get a *.mid file paste it into the \WINDOWS\RINGS,
Open the Phone from Settings and select the midi file you want it to be as your ringtone.
2- For whom the ringtone still doesn't work at all you just neet to extract the file >>CameraRC132_WWE_1.5.sa.zip<< and copy the cab file to your device and install it. Get the file from :

Ps: My O/S is WM2003. I didn't test it on WM2002 if someone will just post here the result.

I don't have the code that you're asking about bcz I didn't write it! I took this cab file from the Newest Himalaya's Extended-Rom
Your MIDI56.sa.cab has problems
Not that it matters that much to some folks...but in case you have an XDA-1 /MDA/PPC Phone Edition....I can confirm the following:
1. With WM2003, you will definitely need the Camera------.cab file installed, plus the MIDI56.sa. Mind you, you will have to install the MIDI56.sa file first, and then install the Camera------.cab
2. It will use up about 600+ K of needless memory on your XDA-1 because obviously, we don't have camera's. So.....what're you to do ? Well, go to
\WINDOWS
and look for Camera.EXE ( approx 500+ K )
Then, what you can do is launch Album, and look again at the \WINDOWS directory...and you will see a bunch of bitmaps obviously ( among other things ). Now..what you're looking for is files dated from 8/20/2003 ( that's 20/8/2003, for you folks EAST of the Atlantic ). Primarily they're bitmaps that were used by the Camera application. They add up to about 50-60 K. There's probably more files associated with the Camera.exe application that you won't need, plus any references in the PPC's registry will probably need to be ferreted out.
But...once you've done that, you've actually reclaimed approximately 800 K in space. Which on a 32MB unit, is a fair bit of memory.
Enjoy !

Marcelo,
I updated the installation instructions, you needed more to read about it.
Mind you, it doesn't matter what you install first cos I had the camera and album files in ppc b4 the midi cab file so it's ok.
Actually it's taking more than you are claiming, since those files installed in the \WINDOWS you can move them to "\Storage card\Album\Album.exe" "\Storage card\Camera\Camera.exe" like I did and gain back the used space , there's also a help file related to the camera it's about 56 kb you could remove it from "\WINDOWS" plus the little bitmaps. Thus you can as well fix the path in the registry for the files associations + making new shortcuts for the Album.exe,Camera.exe and by replacing them on the old ones.
Excellent !!!
I have to remind people that you MUST be careful when deleting the little bitmaps...look at them inside of Album first before deleting anything.
I had to reinstall my GPRS Monitor application because I deleted one of it's bitmaps by mistake....word to the wise !!!
Also I found TONS for MIDI files ( amateur ones ) to use as ringtones....,now if there were a way to make the ringtone directory point to my storage card, that would be great !!

Marcelo,
Moving the ringtones to the Storage card that was my other issue since a long time. I managed a way to do that it. Well for the first try it was successful but when the ppc turns it self off and some one calls you you’d hear the "windows default" ring and it remains whether you selects another ringtone. I kept a backup up on my registry to restore it back to the last status.
So if you like to share me your assistance I'd be grateful.
I'll give you tips of doing that and the project from here it starts…
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P.S: I recommend a backup on the registry b4 applying those tips
===============================================
1- (Looping Ringtones)
This tweak works perfectly you should apply it to your ppc's:
While playing a wav or midi or a wma as the ringtone the phone has a delay of 3 seconds before repeating, now this is really annoying if you've just created that great wav,wma ringtone, spent time making it loop properly in sound editor or whatever, and then the ppc does the silly delay, well, here’s the fix...
Open the registry editor:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0
Select 'Values'
And modify 'Script' by removing the w3 (eg. change 'av0pw3r' to 'av0pr')
"w3" stands for "Wait 3 seconds" you can make it "w1" or "w4" or remove to make the ringtone loops
===============================================
This tweak works for the first time you do it but when the ppc turn it self off the ringtone you selected won't play again :S be noticed.
2-Ringtones on SD/MMC Card
Open the registry editor:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0
Select 'Values'
Select 'Sound' and change the Value Data: \Storage Card\path to wav\wavname (eg. \Storage Card\Ringtones\mytone.wav)
We need here more try about this tweak and good ways to fix so ppl let’s do some tests
===============================================
This is the registry key where all ring tones s/w is playing whenever it comes to customizing a phone ring tone ... including PZP
and that's why all these s/w keeps a "live" component in the back ground to override what Windows is updating each time.
So, PZP was designed as today plugin, so Windows will force it to update the ring tones with each system referesh ... other s/w may keep a background process DLL running or to reconnect cprog.exe to their DLL ... or even to trap the system events to cprog.exe and redirect them to their handler.
So, I think (I might be wrong too ) the trick is to build a live demon to keep updating this registry key.
Necessary Files
I've been able to cut the necessary files for polyphonic ringtones down to ~570KB. Keep in mind I did this on a device with a ROM that was already cooked with supposed "support" for polyphonic ringtones, so there may be other files it is relying on. At any rate, the kitchens need to be updated with these files, because it doesn't work as-is.
There also may be ways to trim even more down, but this is what I have after many hard resets and adding/deleting files one by one. Hope it helps.

Setting custom sliding keyboard open/close sounds

It requires some registry editing, so as usual, mess with this at your own peril.
Here are the steps:
1.) Prepare/get two sounds files. One will be used for the sound when your keyboard slides open, and the other closing the keyboard. I'm not sure what sound files formats are acceptable. The ones that I used, which work fine, are 22khz 8bit mono PCM .wav files.
2.) Name the closing sound #_in.wav and the opening sound #_out.wav (where # is any number greater then 2 because 0 1 and 2 are taken up by the default sounds). I am assuming you can add as many as you want, and just keep them in the numerical sequence. You might be able to name the sounds files anything you want also, as long as they have a corresponding entry in the registry, but again I haven't tested that assumption.
3.) Copy the sound files to the \Windows folder on the Mogul (not in a sub folder below Windows!).
4.) Using a registry editor navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\SlidingSound.
5.) Create a new key with value of the next available number (eg. 3)
----A.) In this new key, set the (Default) string value to a friendly name for your sound (eg. Star Trek Communicator)
----B.) Create a new String named in with a value set to name of your sliding in sound file (eg. 3_in.wav).
----C.) Create a new String named out with a value set to name of your sliding out sound file (eg. 3_out.wav).
6.) Close the registry editor, and go to Start->Settings->Personal tab, and tap on the "SlidingSound" icon to pick and test your new sliding sound set.
Here's a link to several slider sounds I put together:
Rapidshare Link to Mogul Sliding Keyboard Sounds
Included are a long and short transformers sound set, and a light saber sound set. The light saber set is courtesy of PDAPhoneHome forums member Wizzums. The long Transformers sound set I made by downloading it off a website, and reversing it in a audio editor for the closing sound. I thought the sound was too long, so I made shortened/sped up version. I also included .reg files you can import, for those too lazy/scared to create the registry entries themselves.

AWESOME. Love the Tformers sound.
if you look at the ppc geeks thread you can see where i also posted a shotgun sound set too
im glad you enjoy that hack i got bored one day and was browsing the registry and saw that set, fiddled a bit (just used logic mostly) and it worked
how about this for the sliding sound?
how do you install/use PHM edit?
please explain how :[
new!
im new to this forum thing. but i have the sprint 6800 & im trying to do this sliding sound thing. but how do i do the registry thing? where do i go for that? is it in the phone or something i have to download? please help!
There is a really easy way to do this on the HTC Wing
1. Set your Sliding Keyboard to Wind chimes sound. 2. ActiveSync. 3. Copy and Paste these two files into the Windows directory. It will ask you if you want to replace/overwrite the ones that are already there. Now when you open and close the Keyboard you will hear The Star Trek Original series Sliding door sound. No registry editing needed. Its really cool.
If you want to save the Wind Chimes for later use just copy and paste the files with these two names out of your Windows directory to a file on your PC.
Enjoy!
One Additional Thought
You can also go into the Registry afterward and change the name from Wind Chimes to Star Trek Door or whatever you want and it will show in the menu on your Keyboard Sliding App.
Also you can change the other two default sounds and rename them.
replace all 3 sounds
Here is a zip file to replace all 3 default sounds on your wing just copy and paste these into the window directory on your phone and replace the default sounds.
You can rename all three
HKLM\Software\HTC\SlidingSound......
0 = change to Star Trek Door
1 = change to Whistle
2 = change to Transformers
Enjoy!!!!
I did this a while ago when it was 1st posted over on ppcgeeks. My problem though is I can only add one set of sounds when i try to add a 5th sliding sound it wont come up on the sliding sounds menu just the stock 3 plus my star trek doors ive done. can there be more the 4 choices or am i gonna have to copy over one. Ive done the same reg edits that i did to make the doors work

i have 6 on mine, stock 3 plus 3 custom
make sure you are adding a new (and unique) reg key for each set of sounds you want
Has anyone figured this out for WM6? I had changed my sliding sounds before I upgraded the ROM, and now when I try to put it all back, the registry isn't the same. Help?
Gah nevermind I'm a blind doofus. Carry on!
If your placing the sounds into the windows folder doesn't it get over written every boot? I've tried to make this work with my tilt using the sounds from this side. I can preview them but I can't get the noise to happen when I slide it. There is no noise at all infact unless I pic the old ones.
I also have custom sounds at my website. I can also make your sounds into a cab installer that will install and un-install the sounds. I have made a few so far. Check it out.
MeGa
PS - Info is in my sig
This same process works for the HTC TYTN II/AT&T Tilt.
This is what I put on mine. It's the shotgun reload sound from Half-Life. There is a short and long version. Short for the open, and long for the close.
cool excellent work guys.... i was actually just thinking of doing that the other day... I have a good 1 to add to the list. Whos a FINAL FANTASY FAN HERE LOL.... Victory sound that would be GREAT to add !! =)

i made star trek files as well, but the bridge door wav that has saturated the intertubes doesn't reverse well (sounds the same), likewise with the light saber.
i thought about getting the simpsons sounds where ralph is playing with the flag on a mailbox...up = laugh (or out, for us), in = cry (in, for us) but everytime i start going through wav sites, i end up spending too much time downloading things for ringtones and alerts, lol. i have a jetsons messaging notification, and oodles of ringtones and alert sounds now...

boost audio on Maple/Snap with WM 6.5

Hi all.
I have an HTC Snap and upgraded the ROM to WM 6.5. The audio through any headset plugged into it is to low. I have tried to install WOW SRS HD but it just doesn't work even after a soft reset. Does anyone have an alternative solution ?
found it
Ok, I have found a hack to get the headset volume up, and different audio settings, for the Maple with 6.5 ROM. On your device, with a registry editor (I use Total Commander), go to :
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev\AcousticFile
and check which AudioPara file is used for audio settings on your device (for exemple, on my 6.5 french ROM, it's AudioPara3_Maple_FRC_V2.csv).
Copy and backup this file on your computer. Now use a text editor or import file in Excel and change the following Parameters :
F5 - PHONE_HEADSET_VOL5 : rxVolume = A0C0
you can raise the rxVolume value to another hexa value up to FFFF, but if you set it to max, it will probably get the headset sound to high and the audio will probably be distorted.
Copy the file back to the Windows folder on your device and overwrite the old file, re-start device.
I also changed the txVolume to 6000, but you can change both settings to the values you prefer for your headset. I did not change and test the other values but I assume you can tweak the volume for the BlueToothHeadset, EarCuple, etc...

[Q] sms alert tone Focus only

So i have the phone unlocked and custom ring tones and i also know the name of one of my ringtones i want to use as a text sound but they say there is no explorer for Samsung focus. If i know the name of the ringtone, is there anything i can do to use it? say changing something in the registry? the name is hooha! as the ringtone. thanks for all comments.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\SMS\
Sound:string. The default on my phone is "\Windows\Alert-08.wma"
Changing this value should change the sound made on receiving SMS messages. If you have the ability to write multi-string values in the registry, you can also add entries which will show up in the GUI adding their filenames to
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\
Notifications:Multi_String.
The system is a bit picky about the location of the sound file as well. Install directory of an app is a no go for example. Windir and My Ringtones are obviously whitelisted though.
So how would I know where my ringtone is located?
Sent from my SGH-i917 using Board Express
Is ther an explorer for the focus yet?
Sent from my SGH-i917 using Board Express
There's apparently an application capability manifest entry for installing ringtones, which I would guess gives access to the My Ringtones directory (although it could do something else like enable an API, or nothing at all). You could try using it.
You could also copy the file to the phone using Zune as just a music clip. Trying to find where it got put is non-trivial though; there's a small range of numbered folders it could end up in, and a range of numbered files under those folders. It might not work even if you got it right, too.
I've found the Alert sounds under HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Notifications, but I can't add "Saywhat.wma" to Value Data, as in, I type it in and it won't let me save.
I'm guessing I need to:
1) Find where "saywhat.wma" is located
2) Somehow write it to Notifications
Any ideas? I added the file through Chevron's ringtone loader.
If you added it as a ringtone, the file is located at "\My Documents\My Ringtones\saywhat.wma" and you'll need that full value, with spaces but without the quotes (I believe, it might also work with them).
What's the problem when you try to save? Also, what registry editor are you using?

So you're saying it should be "My Documents My RingtonesSaywhat.wma"?
i have also triedd and cant get it to work
well i noticed using advanced configurator you can select ring tones for sms but why dont any of the custom ring tones i added show up in the list?
i think the best way to make it work is to rename ur custom sms tone to alert-01 then copy it to windows directory using touchexplorer(if its cabable to do so )...
unfortunatlly touch explorer is not working on my phone to confirm if this will work or not
i don't think there is a working explorer for the Samsung Focus
Are custom alert tones DOA for non HTC devices? I've really gotten bummed having a cool ringtone and yet having a standard alert tone.
I have tried a few times to get this to work on my focus with 2 different registry editors and it fails everytime i try. Maybe im not entering the correct path as it seams because it never show up. With the registry edit from the touchexperience site, after i make the edit and select ok for it to complete the edit the app exits out and goes back to the home screen. I also have tried with advance explorer and it did not succeed. I wonder if we have the correct path selected to write to and the correct location to select the sound we are wanting, if we use the samsung registry " that is being used to debrand the device " to write the edit, if we can figure this out and make it happen? When i try to add the tone for sms using samsung registry i get this error: please specify a correct integer
Does integer mean the same thing as value?
i got this to work on my focus using the wp7root tools to modify the registry.
i changed [HKEY_current_user\ControlPanel\Sounds\SMS]
"Sound" = \My Documents\My Ringtones\whatever.wma
it works for sure for focus.
does anyone know the original value for:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Notification
i want to switch back to the default value
How do I copy the tones to the Ringtone folder in the first place ??
You have to have an unlocked device and use one of the ringtone programs on this site to transfer to the folder.

Wallpaper change

Hello and Good Day, first my History,
Maybe someone can give an old man help. Currently my three HTC THD are defective, they have long held. Now I bought two new at Amazon and am currently doing this set up. Both new machines had a very old ROM. Have both on the presumably last originals HTC which is available in Germany, flashed.
Until now everything works. Only the original wallpaper I do not want. (WM 6.1, WM-green, red guava, Win-standard) on the old equipment I had these images, see below. I know that these images have been altered. I do not know how.
I installed them in two ways:
1) Start / Explorer / My Documents, from there the menu background image. Result milky, green bar up and down.
2) Before Intergrierung on the device changed from to. Jpg. Tsk, then copied to the Windows folder from the device. But Windows Mobile has not my fair dealing noted. Now the pictures have a double name XXXX.tsk.jpg
Explicitly, these images are milky, when I run it and also have a different colored top and bottom.
Who can give me a good guide (I'm older)
or
Who can I send the images (As) and can make use of these images an installation Cab. Of course I'll give a donation.
In an hour I would like to make a second request. This is perhaps much easier, since I only need a registry key.
It greets
Dieter

You can use ActiveSync - Explore to rename (see picture - ActiveSync_Explore.JPG).
Or you can also use the phone's File Explorer (see picture - File.JPG).
Open FileExplorer. Go to My Documents - Pictures. You can press and hold on the name of the wallpaper file. A box will come up and you can choose to rename it to XXXX (File Explorer will automatically insert the .JPG).
