Bluetooth audio for Google Navigation - Hero CDMA General

I found a thread where someone else asked this question but it was a few months ago and they didn't really get a good answer. I just bought a Motorola bluetooth speaker phone because it was on a wicked sale from newegg and I was hoping it would be a better car solution than the little battery operated speaker I picked up. While the bluetooth device seems to work well for calls it doesn't route the turn-by-turn audio from google navigation through it. It also doesn't seem to trigger the google voice search/dial/command app you get when you long press the search button. Is there a fix for any of these problems? Probably my own dumb fault for not researching it first.
Thanks.

I think I have the same speaker you do. Is it the T505? I never tried Google navigation because 1.5 is more stable than 2.1 for me so I switched back. However I have tried Sprint Navigation and it does turn by turn perfectly.

It works over BT but it goes through the A2DP (stereo) profile, not the HSP (headset). From your description of voice search, I'd guess if doesn't support HFP (handsfree). Search Wikipedia for "bluetooth profiles" for more info. Best thing I ever did was to get a bluetooth enabled stereo receiver for my car -- works flawlessly for both streaming audio and handsfree.

Its the Motorola T215. According to the manual it supports handsfree and headset profiles. When I pair it with the phone it appears to use the headset profile. I guess its not a huge issue since the phone still does a pretty good job of picking up voice commands on its own if I long press the search button. And I can hear the navigation cues alright thru the phone speaker. Thought maybe one of the clever coders on this board might come up with an app or a mod to make this work.

Help with Bluetooth Headset!!

Sorry if you have already read this but I am still having a problem!!
I got the new Bluetake iphone mini stereo headphones for christmas and was hoping to use them with my MDA Pro (running the new O2 ROM).
I have them paired as a "Hands Free" device...
I know that I can't use the stereo features until the new A2DP patch come out (hopefully soon!), however what I want to be able to do is use voice command to initiate calls etc. However when I press the call/power or Play/Pause button all I hear is a beep from the headset and nothing hapens on the PDA...
However I can use the button to answer and hangup a call (as long as I answered it with the handset...) If I initiate the call on the MDA then I can't hangup with the headset...
Am I doing something wrong or does it sound like something is faulty??
Any advice?
Thanks
Andy.
I actually had an oportunity to try out the voice levels and sound is awful! I also tried to connect it to my SE T610 and it refused and it did the same when I tried to connect it to my Toshiba M200 tablet PC as in both cases it never asked for the passkey...
I am begining to think that they must be faulty??
But becuase I have never had a BT headset before so I'm not sure if I am doing something stupid!
Andy
I have managed to try a SE BT headset with my MDA Pro and it did work and activate voice command. So it would seem that the headset is faulty. Does anyone have any ideas before I send it back?
Andy
Please!! Is there anyone here who can comment on whether they think these are broken or if I am just incompetent!
If they are broken then I need to send them back really soon...
FWIW, my Jabra BT330 and the SE HBH-662 just need a single quick click to activate the voice dial, but these Plantronics Pulsar 590A things I just got (which are fandabidosi by the way!) need a prolonged press to do the same.
Have you tried keeping your finger on the button for a while?

Just looked at the instructions for the bluetake i-phone (bt450rx),
(got them myself for xmas)
and it does not say that you can connect to the phone for voice control,
however you should be able to hang up from the headset.
i have got the k-jam (wizard) and can dial from the k-jam and hangup from the headset.
voice control may not be available because the new bluetooth stereo headset's are ready for AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile).
the older bluetake headset bt420rx can be used for voice control but do not have AVRCP function.
I hope i am wrong, but it may be the answer you have not been looking for.
Hmm... That sounds bad...
I only have a few days left to return it and don't know whether to get a replacement or to go for a different headset?
i like the idea of being able to play/pause/f-foward/rewind via the headset(when bt v2 upgrade is available), because music playback is more important to me than voice dial.
of course if you can send it back, then perhaps just wait until bt v2 is available, and then buy a headset for the uses you require it for.(wish there was an emotion with cross eyes) LOL
I know what you mean but I would still be able to use voice command!!
Does anyone else have the 450Rx and a universal and could test it for me?
if you do prove me wrong (and i hope you do) please let me know.
answering this problem further,
the bluetake i-phono mini headset cannot be used for voice command,
however the motorola ht820 can be used for voice control.
Had similar issues with my headset (not the same type). In the end, I had enable secure mode on the universal, pair the devices, select serial port and then immediately initiate the voice dial, otherwise it didn't work.
Gareth
I decided to play it safe and returned it back to Expansys for a refund. When someone else gets a set of stereo headphones and A2DP is out... and crucially they can confirm it works! Then I'll buy a new one!
Cheers
Andy
one good thing with motorola ht820 is that they can be used with a detatchable cable, so whilst i'm using them bluetooth for the phone side, i can still hear good quality music.
also i know from trying them with my wife's qtek s110 that you can control windows media player as well.
you may have already tried this, but just in case you haven't,
install and run the three files for either "bt off", "bt on", or "bt toggle",
this will switch all audio to the bt headset or away,
of course quality is not good, but at least no cables.
ps. if the headset is switch off and you put bt on, you will get an on screen error message.

Do they come with this cable as standard?
EDIT: Did a search, and they do.... might just buy them now and sell my Sony EX-71's.... would they we at least the same in terms of sound quality? It's the thing people talk about least with these devices!
So lemme see if I got this right.... even before I get A2DP installed on my Exec, I can listen to perfect music using the cable, and also use the hphones as a bluetooth headset as well? Will the music still pause etc when a call comes in?
Just bought a pair of HT820's on Ebay there.... £38, not too bad. Should get about £25-30 for two pairs of existing headphones, so well please.

Voice Command Over Bluetooth

Voice Command 1.6 seems to be a bit of a nightmare and i have given up on my hermes for now.
My trinity though is almost ok, the only thing that doesnt work is when i push the voice button on the headset the sound comes out the phone speaker.
If i use the button on the phone though the sound comes out the headset.
How can i change the action of the button on the bluetooth headset to do what the button on the device is doing.
Thanks all.

FYI I use a SonyEricsson stereo BT headset and I don't experience this problem.
Rjefferis, I experience the same problem as you.
I have a Jabra JX10 headset.
Confirmation voice always comes out of phone speaker, not headphone... and irritatingly, it takes microphone readings from the phone body too. Kind of defeating the idea of hands free voice dialling.

Yeah this seems to be the problem on the hermes too. On mine it works correctly if i use the voice dial button on the phone. So the button on the headset and the button on the phone must be calling slightly different functions. All i need to know is what reg key i have to edit to make the headset button do the same as the phone one.
Try yours to see whether it works using the phone button. I think maybe my a2dp is getting involved somewhere as well.
There is an option about Notifications and Bluetooth devices in the Voice command settings... does this solve you problem?
Not for me.
It is set to read only through handsfree. I havent got my headset here, so I will see what happens if I switch it to the opposite like rjefferis implied.
yeah i doesnt make a difference using the options in voice command.
I think maybe when i push the button on the phone it works through the a2dp to the headset which obviously it shouldnt be.
When i use a non stereo headset then i think it always comes out the phone no matter what.
There are a number of threads regarding this issue and some semi-working fixes to get initiating a voice call through a mono bluetooth headset.
The problem seems to be a difference in the trinity passing audio through the audio gateway using a mono bluetooth headset. Not sure if this is a problem with the implentation of Microsoft's bluetooth stack on the TyTn/Trinity but I'm assuming that's the case.
According to Microsoft's Voice Command site, they indicate that the TyTn (put the Trinity in the same situation) passes audio through the device speaker. They also make note that devices running Windows Mobile build prior to 15097.3.0.0 will pass announcements through the device speaker. This leads me to believe that Microsoft fixed audio to a mono bluetooth headset but I've seen lot's of messages from people running roms higher than this version who still have the problem so sounds like HTC hasn't implemented it.
I've sent emails to HTC who indicate that it's a 3rd party program and there is no guarentee they will fix it as it's a Microsoft problem. I haven't been able to get word from Microsoft if it is being fixed but from their website, seems both parties are passing the buck on this one.
Considering HTC's lack of commitment in releasing updates for their branded products and the delay, we probably won't see another rom after their first release for a while if any since they seem more committed to releasing new products increase their bottom line without keeping their current customers happy. So if it's not in their upcoming rom update and Microsoft isn't releasing a fix, we could be waiting a while. I'd recommend anyone who cares about this issue to send an email to HTC Support. You'll get the generic response but hopefully if enough people complain about it, a fix might fall into their update

Tilt, AT&T Stock ROM, Microsoft Voice, and Bluetooth which work - PLZ Recommend

Greetings,
I have reviewed the Bluetooth vs. AT&T Tilt vs. Microsoft Voice threads, and cannot find a specific answer, so I am going to try to ask a narrow question here ...
... does anyone who has (i) AT&T Tilt with (ii) the AT&T ROMs, (iii) Microsoft Voice, and (iv) a Bluetooth Headset have all 4 working perfectly together? I need to buy a bluetooth headset, and the forums are littered with problems with Voice announcing, or problems answering the phone thru the headset, etc.
That's why I am just hoping to hear from someone who has all 4 of these things ... that work together. Any recommendations for the bluetooth headset are appreciated.
Thanks
My Tilt worked great with the stock ROM, MSVC 1.6.17913 and my BlueAnt Z9 worked flawlessly including announcing calls over BT.
Thank you!
I will look into the BlueAnt Z9. Thank you so very much for responding.
Of course ... if anyone else has the combination of stock tilt/voice/bluetooth, please let me/us know what other adapters might also work.
I did not have any issues with the Motorola H700 and MSVC 1.6.17913 on my Tilt.
H700
Andre - I recall seeing some mention of the H700 on other threads. Can you (please) confirm that you can answer the phone thru the bluetooth, and that call announce works?

I keep my unit on vibrate and ring and this is the way I tested it. I first placed a call using my office phone to my mobile handset in the "vibrate only" and "vibrate and ring" modes. When my mobile handset was on vibrate the notification came through to my headset with audible tones and my mobile vibrated, but no voice announce from MSVC was heard. When I switched the handset to normal vibrate and ring mode (assume this works on ring w/o vibrate as well) MSVC announced the caller through the headset and nothing audible was heard through the handset. I would say this headset is 100% compatible with the Tilt and MSVC.
Bought the Z9
My Z9 arrived today, and it does answer the phone, engage in voice command, etc.
Pretty nifty (but expensive) bluetooth.
Thanks!
Glad you like it. I hope you give us a nice reveiw after you play with it for a while. I am contemplating moving up because I have had this same type of headset for years now HS810, HS820, HS850, and the H700.
I've got AT&T Tilt, Stock ROM, MS Voice Command 1.6.17913 and Samsung WEP200 all working together.
Also, in MS Voice Command, there are options to select the source the phone calls are made from.
Go to "Start" > "Settings" > "Voice Command"
Click. "Notifications" button and the options that come up are...
-Announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free only
-Announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free if available
-Announce notifications through device speaker or wired headset only.

i still cant get it all to work on my tilt like my 8125...8126 was the bomb with vc. tilt is so nice but not with vc
I tried out a plantronics 665 the seemed to work well, but I didn't care that much for the headset. Returned it and got a nxZen nx9000, and it doesn't seem to work with voice command. Not sure why one works and not the other. Anyone care to speculate, or state with authority, why the 2nd headset doesn't work? Thanks.
Anybody knows how Logitech Mobile Pro Headset works with this combo?
Thanks

Is the Jawbone working with all this? I broke my last Jawbone, but would definatele get another, assuming it would work.
My Jawbone works with my Tilt with the stock ROM. Make sure you install VC before you pair your phone with the headset. If you already paired, delete the pairing and re-pair after the install.
Thank you much.
Now I've got another issue, somebody said "BLUEant" and I saw went looking... I like Blue
Trying to decide between the Z9 or another Jawbone. Comparitively they're about the same with the Z9 being the smaller and more "attractive" of the two, and it also costs alot less. Not to mention it's firmware can be update.
But the big plus for me is that it's BT 2.0 BT 2.0 + Firmware upgradeability make it a serious contender in my book. The Jawbone is in it's prime... whereas the Z9 could get better.
Can't decide at the moment...
I also have the Tilt and Jawbone working together but does anyone know if it is possible to issue the voice commands via the headset. I can only talk into the phone to make it dial a name and then the call is directed to the bluetooth headset.
has anyone got this to work all through the headset.
I couldn't imagine it not being possible... I managed to use the Jawbone with the RAZR V3 in or to use voice dialing and it worked decently.
Jawbone and voice dial
Have had a Jawbone paired with my tilt since I bought it. Works perfectly except calls are not announced through the bluetooth, but important e-mail subjects are read through the headset when they arrive.
The Jawbone is sometimes awkward because it gets loose on your ear/cheek if you move your head alot and then sounds like your talking through a long tube.
Thinking about trying blueant, but haven't heard any glowing reports yet.

There are plenty of fantastic reviews for the BlueAnt Z9. It seems to me to be just the same as when I was researching the Jawbone. You'll either love it, or you'll hate it.
The big plus to me with the BlueAnt is that it's warranty is fantastic (2 years compared to the Jawbone's very specific 1 year warranty), it's BlueTooth 2.0 Stereo (should result in better sound quality as I plan to use my Kaiser as my MP3 player as well), and the big plus for me is that its firmware can be updated. Thanks to the firmware, the Z9's limitations are moreso a limit of it's firmware than it's hardware, whereas the Jawbone is fixed.
With that said, I loved my Jawbone... and I'll still be using my current one while it's still functioning (it's falling apart... Jawbones aren't very well built I'll say that) and comparing it to my Z9 when it gets here.

Hi URPREY - I have the same setup (with the official ATT ROM update 1.62.502.0) working, but instead of announcing the callerid info, I'm hearing "please answer or not at home" through my Blueant Z9 via my Tilt. Any ideas?

motorola headset s-9

I paired the head set both as a wireless stereo and as hand free and it works good except 1 thing:
while I press the button on the headset to make a voice call with voice tag (which works perfectly for me with others simple headsets) ,I can't hear the beep telling me to say the tag and also i can't hear the confirmation of the tag I said.
The system IS working and the phone dials what I said, but i can't confirm while the pda is not in front of me
If I disable the "wireless stereo", I can hear the beep and the confirmation.
Does anyone know someting ?
Besides this the sound of the headset is amazing
Voicecall
Yes, I experienced the same thing with my WE-COM (cheap ) stereo bluetooth headset. If i want to make the headset activate the voicecall i have to first turn off the wireless stereo in the bluetooth connection screen. So, i leave the wireless stereo turned off most of the time. Only when i want to sit back and enjoy wireless stereo music or watch a movie using bluetooth, i turn on the wireless stereo.
I wish it can be automatic but i can't find any other ways other than manually turning the wireless stereo off and on acording to my needs.
Since my bluetooth is inexpensive, I am happy that both the wireless function and the phone function works. The shop person who sold me the bluetooth didn't know how to get the phone function of the headset to work with my u1000 at first. I had to fiddle with the pairing and setting up for quite a while at his shop. Suddenly it hit me that the pda was confused about the headset having 2 different functions and it doesn't know how to automatically switch between the 2 functions by itself. So i just have to use the bluetooth setup screen to command the pda to respond to just one of the function at a time. And it worked! So i bought the headset. And the shop was happy to make his sale.

Is there a such thing as Bluetooth auto-discovery?

I want to know if there is a feature in bluetooth so that any time I bring my phone into range of the BT device, that it will automatically reconnect, without me having to push any buttons on the phone, or device. I guess this could depend on the device and/or phone, so if someone replies "yeah, this is how my X device connects to my Y phone", then that will answer my question. Of course, this is a Vibrant forum, and I do have a Vibrant phone, so all the better if someone tells me it works on Vibrants.
I am not sure what initiates the connection, but when I start my car my Bluetooth connects automatically with my vibrant.
I have a jawbone headset That I use, if my Bluetooth is enabled, it automatically pairs with it when in range. However, if my headset is in off mode, then obviously it does not do That.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Hmm... then I guess it is a function of the BT device. I am using the blueant speaker phone, and I would really like it if it just automatically connects to my phone each time I get in the car. Right now I have to press a button on the speakerphone each time I get in the car to reconnect.
I've seen weirdness with bluetooth after I've paired more then one device to the phone. T-Mobile support told me the Vibrant simply doesn't support pairing to more then one device (not just active at a time, but more then one paired at all). That sounded like bunk to me, but it sure is how my phone is acting.
I've got a PLT510 headset as well as a LiquidAux stereo adaper in the car and Plantronics 903 BackBeat Headphones. Since the LiquidAux and the 903 both give Media support and the all three devices provide "phone" support the phone seems to get real confused.
Sometimes bluetooth devices auto pair and just work, but it is not uncommon for me to have to force them into pairing mode again and search for them as if they are new devices.
I am hopeful 2.2 improves the bluetooth support.
Interesting. My Blueant speaker phone is the only device with which I have paired my Vibrant, but I have had to reboot my phone a couple of times to make it connect. I would go in my car, hit the connect button on the speaker phone and the speaker phone would report "No phone found", even though the phone was turned on and less than two feet from the speaker phone. Reboot the phone and press the connect button again and what-do-you-know, it works.
I am also hoping that 2.2 gives me some BT improvements. Voice dialing will be very nice, but I hope they fix all the other BT issues that are affecting me.

They are great. I read lots of horror stories about the original red and black S9's and sweat, but I know there are an ungodly amount of Chinese knockoffs out there and I chalk it up to that. If you buy them retail I don't think you'd have any issues.
Just got my Vibrant yesterday and I was trying to pair it with my Jawbone 1 headset but it's not being recognized by the phone, I've turned them on and off several times but nothing seems to work.
It was working perfectly on my G1 as of yesterday so I know the headset works.
Any suggestions?
