Brand new HD2 user on Tmobile USA, questions - HD2 General

I'm having trouble understanding how to get videos, photos and music on the device. I am using an iMac and Double twist is sucking.

Can't you plug it up as a mass storage device and transfer stuff that way? I don't have a Mac so I can't comment on doubletwist.

Well yes I can use it that way but the photos and videos don't show up in that section I have to go to file manager and launch them from there. The music is actually showing up though. So not sure what the issue is.

make sure you are putting the pictures in \Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures.
also, if you want to keep the pictures in a "non-standard" folder, you can start the album and press the Left Softkey named "Albums" and pick your custom folder album from the list. once the album opens, press the Right Softkey named "Menu" and "Set Album as Favorite". after that step, this album will be displayed on the Photos and Videos tab of Sense on the Home Screen.

Should music and photos be name My Music and My Photos?

please read my post again. i have specifically mentioned the preferred naming convention for photos, i.e. \Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures.
for music, i have noticed that the HTC audio manager is not so picky. it is quite lenient...i keep my music in \Storage Card\My Documents\Music, but the convention is \Storage Card\My Documents\My Music. however, your observations agree with mine, because you are also stating that your music is showing up just fine. so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
go ahead and follow my directions for the photos and videos and you'll be fine.
HOWEVER, if you want pictures and videos subsequently captured on your HD2 to fall into the same album, then things get a little tricky. to achieve this, you have TWO options:
1. stick with \Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures (for pictures) and \Storage Card\My Documents\My Videos (for videos) and use a tool called "Schap's Advanced Config" to set the save folder for the camera to these same folders.
2. if you don't want to touch the camera's output folders, then use \Storage Card\DCIM\100MEDIA as the folder for your existing pictures and videos.
i prefer option 1 because the folder names remain descriptive and you can separate the videos from the pictures and thereby keep things a bit more organized.

Not to sound dumb but I downloaded the config tool but no idea how to get it running on my phone...
Ah I got it, nm.
However HTC's Picture/Video section is not pulling either from \Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures or \Storage Card\My Documents\My Videos even those I assigned them using Schap's.

Upping for help, hehe.

Download Syncmate here: http://www.sync-mac.com/syncmate.html . But you can still drag-and-drop if you want to.

did you follow the steps in bold from my earlier post (see the quote below in this post)?
if you follow these steps, HTC Sense will set the chosen album so that it can be browsed directly from the relevant tab in the home screen.

This seems more a hack not a fix, there's no easy way to get this working?
And movies just don't show up at all.

lol! a hack would be something involving jumping through unnatural hoops such as editing the registry (which you were fine with via schap's advanced config) or editing configuration files and what not!
this is no hack my friend, it is a functionality directly accessible from a menu within the album application. it means that HTC designed it so that the device begins with a default folder that you can change to a custom album folder as you please. once your chosen folder is set, its video and picture contents will show up in the relevant tab in Sense.
it really is easier than it sounds, just try it, it takes 20 seconds to do it (i know because i do it every time after flashing any ROM) and then it is all set until the next hard reset or the next time i flash a new ROM.
no hack sir! just the way things are!

Htc Album with folder selector/folder ignore?

Hi everyone,
My name is Carlos and i'm from Barcelona, and this is my first post here.
I have a HTC Diamond, and i would like to know if there is a way to ignore folders into the HTC Album, because i'm very tired of browsing on dumb folders when i want to see my real photos.
I've read in other threads about putting folders the "Ignore" entry in the registry, but it seems it doesn't works... or maybe i do not know how to do it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=404948
Is there a way to get rid of these folders that i do not want to see? Is there a new version of the HTC album with some kind of folder selector? Or any other third part software to do this?
I'm really desperate on this, because i love the HTC Album, but is really annoying to browse so long to find my photos amongst that crap...
Many thanks!
you can always select the folder you want to browse by clicking "album" (left softkey in htc album) and then select the good folder
Set the "hidden" file attribute on all jpegs in folders you want to ignore.
does the photo viewer pick every single jpeg on the phone by default or does it only show pictures from certain folders - i.e my pictures folder (wether internal storage or located elsewhere).
I got a load of photographs I dont want anyone to see (wink wink nudge nudge) just by picking up my phone and selecting photos.
Ive got to many to mark each one as hidden.
I remember I managed it to work before last hard reset, but now I forget how I did that... I'll look into it and let you guys know if if find anything out
That's just the problem, the album picks EVERY single jpg in the phone, and there's no option to avoid it.
Now I have about 200 folders when i click on Album list, so the album is not useful anymore, i do no not want to waste 3 minutes to browse down in the album list to find that pictures that i'm loking for...
The "hidden" option it doesn't works... too much folders to hide anyway...
The hidden option works absolutely fine on my Diamond. It's the files that have to be hidden not the folders.
if the photos are in internal storage, connect the Diamond to a pc as a USB drive and do a search for all jpeg files from the pc . Select all the search results (or just the ones that need hiding) and right-click to adjust all the properties at the same time.

WOOOOOW !!
Davey101, that was a pretty brilliant idea!!
I thought I should hide folders, not individual files. I follow your instructions to hide all the undesired jpg files. I've seen other folders in the Album with bmp, png ad gif files, and they were also hidden.
Maybe is not the best way to definitely solve this matter, but it seems there is no other one for the moment, and the result is that now i've just have what i want in the Album list. Cool
Many thanks for your help!
Folder Seleting
Also,Dont know if you already know but every photo album folder listed from the album button has the setting to select it has your favourite.Your favourite album will then be accessed from the "photos and videos link from tf3d.Saves searching through lots of folders!

[Q]MANILA - Music Tab(Music Player)

A mod can probably merge this post with:

There's a registry entry that declares a folder which is not scanned by Audio Manager. It is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\C onfig:ring_tone_path
By default it would be "\My Documents\My ringtones\" (don't know for sure, I'm on a dutch ROM atm). You can change this to another location if you like, but I it won't take a location on your storagecard, unfortunately. It means you will have to keep ring-tones in the device memory. For me this is no problem because I only carry a few dozen tones with me.
thx for reply.i have done this by using Resco Explorer.all the folders that contains ringtones and files i do not want to show up in music tab i simply set as hiden.that did the trick for me.manila will no longer pick them up.

Thanks for this, this has helped improve matters somewhat, but I still have a folder full of audio books (very large, so needs to be on storage card) that still show up and I would rather they didn't. Any one know of a way of hiding these from Audio Manager?

Album Images

Hi:
Whenever I load my album app, folders appear where my pics are categorized.
The problems is that I see a huge list of folders, incluiding album art of all my music, and thumbnails of other apps. So as you can imagine, a pretty long list which takes a while to load each time.
Is there any way to choose what folder to see?
I will like to see: Cam pictures, dowload pictures and video. NO MORE.
I can´t get all the other sillion of folders out!!!
Any suggestion or idea?
Thanks in advance.
I also would like to know how to do this.
Do you have your Music in the folder sdcard/mp3/ ???
You must do that, then it works well.

Hi,
'
Does it matter if the folder is sdcard/MP3?
Is it case sensitive?
EDIT I change de folder name from sdcard/MP3 to sdcard/mp3, turn off the phone, turn it on, and the same thing happens...any other suggestions?
Thanks
Simply create a file and name it ".nomedia" (without quotes). Put it in every folder you don't want to be listed in Albums (or Player)

I´ve connected my hero to my PC, enter the SD Card, enter in the folder where a I have my MP3 sdcard/mp3 an created there, with the note creator, an empty .nomedia file. But it didn´t work....do I hacve to this for all my MP3 folders? Which programs should I use to create de .nomedia file?
Thanks.
I didn't create it myself, found somewhere on android forums. I've attached this file (extract it to desired folder). It worked for me
Excellent!!! It worked!!!
Thanks.
EDIT. .nomedia inside my mp3 folder means no infinite list of album art in the image gallery, but it also meant NO MUSIC DETECTED IN MY SD CARD!!!!!!
SO...there is no way to have both working!!!!!
??????????????
Question
Does it works also in subfolders? 'Cause otherwise it's hard to copy this file everywhere....
You do not need the album art image (jpg) to display a cover in the Musik player at all. The htc music player supports the album art as a tag in the mp3 file. That means you need an mp3tag program to add your cover.jpg (or folder.jpg) to the mp3 file directly. Afterwards you can delete the cover.jpg. Then you have clean folders with mp3 files only in it meaning that the HTC Album does not show the covers anymore but the Music player does.
A great free program for this job can be found here: http://www.mp3tag.de/
The page is german, though;-)
Cheers

Sense music ignore folder setting??

Like the title says is it possible to point the sense player so that it only scans a certain folder or ignores certain folders (like the photo viewer can)??
I have ringtones etc in my player!
yes it is.. look in the sticky tips thread..!
oops sorry, that's for pictures and videos..
if you set a file as ringtone, it's copied to the ringtone folder.. no need to keep it on your storage..

Photo Albums in Mediascape

Hello,
I'm wondering if there are any customisation options in Mediascape that I'm missing. Now that I've started putting photos into folders, I've noticed some annoyances. The Albums categories show photos that I do not want there, such as Album Art from my Music. I know I can fix this by tagging/embedding the artwork properly, but it's still a pain. But the same problem applies elsewhere. For example, I use the Sync2Pix app for bringing Facebook photos into my Contact List. These photos now appear in Mediascape under a 'cache' folder.
Is there no option to specify where Mediascape looks for photos? Or does anyone know where it looks, the memory card only?
Any advice appreciated...
Hi
I use Mixzing for music - i deleted those folders in mediascape which held "album art" and it didn't affect the album art in mixzing.
I think if you went into your photos folders using pc companion you can move your photos around to different folders and change folder names, for the sort of thing you are downloading from facebook, i just made a folder called contact pics and stuck them in there.
Angie
I don't think I can change the Facebook contacts folder as it's the app that is setting it's cache folder. Surely SE can have a simple option to select or monitor certain folders only? Will check out Mixzing though, thanks.
hey how can i dump my own wallpapers in the default wallpapers??
Do this:
On PC, open notepad, then save as .nomedia and save as type: all files
Place that .nomedia file to the folder on x10 that you don't want mediascape to read and that's it.
Dejo, thanks a lot, I thought there might be something like that I could stick in the code, so glad you told me. Will try it out tomorrow. Thanks again.
