Photo Albums in Mediascape - XPERIA X10 General

Hello,
I'm wondering if there are any customisation options in Mediascape that I'm missing. Now that I've started putting photos into folders, I've noticed some annoyances. The Albums categories show photos that I do not want there, such as Album Art from my Music. I know I can fix this by tagging/embedding the artwork properly, but it's still a pain. But the same problem applies elsewhere. For example, I use the Sync2Pix app for bringing Facebook photos into my Contact List. These photos now appear in Mediascape under a 'cache' folder.
Is there no option to specify where Mediascape looks for photos? Or does anyone know where it looks, the memory card only?
Any advice appreciated...

Hi
I use Mixzing for music - i deleted those folders in mediascape which held "album art" and it didn't affect the album art in mixzing.
I think if you went into your photos folders using pc companion you can move your photos around to different folders and change folder names, for the sort of thing you are downloading from facebook, i just made a folder called contact pics and stuck them in there.
Angie

I don't think I can change the Facebook contacts folder as it's the app that is setting it's cache folder. Surely SE can have a simple option to select or monitor certain folders only? Will check out Mixzing though, thanks.

hey how can i dump my own wallpapers in the default wallpapers??

Do this:
On PC, open notepad, then save as .nomedia and save as type: all files
Place that .nomedia file to the folder on x10 that you don't want mediascape to read and that's it.

Dejo, thanks a lot, I thought there might be something like that I could stick in the code, so glad you told me. Will try it out tomorrow. Thanks again.

Hello!
Does someone know how to manage pictures in the photo album, like rearrange pictures into folders?
I try to put folder in the My images folder, hoping they would appear into the photo album, but it won't. I would like to show someone, for exemple, only a couple of pictures, using this fabulous photo album finger friendly, but all my pictures appears...

Yep Same here.. moved all my pictures all in nice subfolders to the My Images folder.. but indeed.. the all appear without any folder structure.
Starting up takes a while now and finding the pictures is very hard.
Too bad.. i'm moving back to the old picture viewer.
Beeing possible to navigate through subfolders would be very helpfull.
Anyone know a 'hack' for this?
i'd like a hack for this as well, i synced my picture collection of over 300 images to my touch dual and i have to scan through all 300. would be nice to see folders
same prob here. i had to use tcpmp finally. what a pity for not able to use the touchflo features.
HTC photo album can only read from MyPictures folder in device and
DCIM folder in the storage (using digital camera format)
Thats not so I use it to view pictures from MY PICTURES on my SD card as I use the MY PICTURES on the phone for something else. May I offer a suggestion to the people wanting to use folders, why not just keep the individual folders outside of MY PICTURES till you want to look at it and than import that particular folder? That way theres nothing else but the pictures you want to show............HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
@sneakyp86
what do you mean by "import that particular folder"? a feature of HTCAlbum or just file movement? thanks
start --> programs --> pictures and videos
it's the only way i know if i wanna show some pictures inside a folder, sadly we cant configure it in touch cube

Htc Album with folder selector/folder ignore?

Hi everyone,
My name is Carlos and i'm from Barcelona, and this is my first post here.
I have a HTC Diamond, and i would like to know if there is a way to ignore folders into the HTC Album, because i'm very tired of browsing on dumb folders when i want to see my real photos.
I've read in other threads about putting folders the "Ignore" entry in the registry, but it seems it doesn't works... or maybe i do not know how to do it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=404948
Is there a way to get rid of these folders that i do not want to see? Is there a new version of the HTC album with some kind of folder selector? Or any other third part software to do this?
I'm really desperate on this, because i love the HTC Album, but is really annoying to browse so long to find my photos amongst that crap...
Many thanks!
you can always select the folder you want to browse by clicking "album" (left softkey in htc album) and then select the good folder
Set the "hidden" file attribute on all jpegs in folders you want to ignore.
does the photo viewer pick every single jpeg on the phone by default or does it only show pictures from certain folders - i.e my pictures folder (wether internal storage or located elsewhere).
I got a load of photographs I dont want anyone to see (wink wink nudge nudge) just by picking up my phone and selecting photos.
Ive got to many to mark each one as hidden.
I remember I managed it to work before last hard reset, but now I forget how I did that... I'll look into it and let you guys know if if find anything out
That's just the problem, the album picks EVERY single jpg in the phone, and there's no option to avoid it.
Now I have about 200 folders when i click on Album list, so the album is not useful anymore, i do no not want to waste 3 minutes to browse down in the album list to find that pictures that i'm loking for...
The "hidden" option it doesn't works... too much folders to hide anyway...
The hidden option works absolutely fine on my Diamond. It's the files that have to be hidden not the folders.
if the photos are in internal storage, connect the Diamond to a pc as a USB drive and do a search for all jpeg files from the pc . Select all the search results (or just the ones that need hiding) and right-click to adjust all the properties at the same time.

WOOOOOW !!
Davey101, that was a pretty brilliant idea!!
I thought I should hide folders, not individual files. I follow your instructions to hide all the undesired jpg files. I've seen other folders in the Album with bmp, png ad gif files, and they were also hidden.
Maybe is not the best way to definitely solve this matter, but it seems there is no other one for the moment, and the result is that now i've just have what i want in the Album list. Cool
Many thanks for your help!
Folder Seleting
Also,Dont know if you already know but every photo album folder listed from the album button has the setting to select it has your favourite.Your favourite album will then be accessed from the "photos and videos link from tf3d.Saves searching through lots of folders!

Album covers show up in the gallery app - Is there a way to prevent this?

Hello.
Does someone know a way of hidding the album covers showing up in the gallery app? I know the way of putting a ".nomedia" file inside the music folder but that prevents the music from showing up in the music app.
Thank you for your help.
I would also like to know if there is any answer for this? It is irritating to go into gallery and sort through a couple of hundred pictures of my albums.
Embed the art into the mp3 files themselves so you con remove the JPG art files.
There is only one way I know off to stop this and it means going through your music comprehensively.
You need to edit the music files in iTunes or similar, and assign the album art to the individual music tracks rather than just copying a .jpg to the folder.
If you right click on the music file or files (you can edit more than one track at a time) and then click on 'albumart'.
you then find the file you wish to use and click okay.
EACH track then has an assigned album art picture embedded.
It takes time though, I've done 120Gb of my 300Gb of Music!!
21000 tracks and counting so far.................
Personally, I use TagRunner. Downloads the tags and art automatically (and embeds it).
IMO Weak workarounds.
Pisses me off the Gallery wont let you select specific folders.
I once dled a sign language App only to suddenly have 100+ pics in my gallery.
Id you .hide them...the App wont see them either.
Terrible setup by Android , no idea why this hasnt been addressed.
Super noob question,I can't figure out how to add music to my n1.I hooked it up to my PC,do I need software to sync up to? Thanks

drag and drop after you mount your sd card
Um, you guys know that you can just drop a file called .nomedia in any directory and the music/picture/video finder won't index it, right?
Yes that was discussed. but if the album art is in the same folder as the music, you dont get to listen to the music. And if you put that file in the albumthumbs folder, then the music player wont show it either.
OP is looking to eliminate it from the gallery only.
Are the music files and artwork in the same folder?
If they are you can't do anything about it.
Properly tag the files folks...
Now if the artwork is in another folder you can make a 1 byte file with the name ".nomedia" and place it in the folder.
None of the Media Scan routines will process the folder; this means in the folder images *AND* music will be ignored.
Placing the .nomedia file in whatever folder has the images (music folder or albumthumbs) will most likely prevent the album are from being seen in the music player as well.
I agree that properly tagging the music is really the best way around this. I use mediamonkey for my media management and tagging on my desktop.

I'm doing this, when I rename the file, it vanishes. Is this right? If I try make it again, it says it can't as a file with that name exists, so I guess that's how it should be.
When I go to album, these folders are still there though. Is there a way to make it refresh?
EDIT: Okay, I rebooted and this worked

gallery ignore folder

Hi Guys,
I googled a way to hide folders from showing up in the gallery, because i have some folders with pictures that i do not want to see in the gallery, such as scanned documents etc.
I came across this fix of adding a blank '.nomedia' file to the folder i want ignored.
However, i then ran across this issue where adding nomedia file will delete all the media files in that folder (http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3692)
Does anyone know if this has been fixed in Froyo? because i don't want to risk putting this .nomedia file and then losing all my documents.
thanks
I haven't heard of the issue of nomedia file issue but I do know that you can create any folder with a "." at the beginning and the gallery and media players will ignore it.
.photos or .scans will make the folder hidden
I've never had that probem with .nomedia either....but you can try what was posted above.
what about album arts? I want it to show up on music player, but not photo and video gallery, which it has unfortunately picked them up.
how do i turned off the display of such media files in gallery?

I use photovault to hide images i dont want to show up in gallery. It works like a charm. It costs 1$ but it's totally worth it.
btw would it be possible to only use specified folders for media files? like putting .nomedia in the root-directory and then something like a ".ThisIsMedia" file into the videos, photos, mp3 folders?

[REQ] exclude media from various apps?

I haven't found any way to do the following. (Please correct me if I've passed over anything)
But I'm looking for both a music and gallery app, that allows me to choose the directory path that I only want those respective apps to scan. I.e. if I wanted to exclude my downloads folder from showing up in the gallery. Or my saved voicemail folder from showing up in music.
Honestly I'd love this to be native functionality I'm afraid it's not, but if it could be worked into cm7
Anyway if you have any ideas on how to achieve this, please chime in!
in your sdcard try to find a ".nomedia" file and just copy and past that into any directory you dont want media to be picked up from
unfortunately I don't think that will work for what I want.
Here's an example:
as a result of my ocd like tendencies for music organization, every folder of an album has a jpg or png of the album art in it. (yes I could delete this file, but I'd prefer to leave it on account of being stubborn and I think that's how my album art shows up in the music player.)
If I put the .nomedia file into that, I would lose the image from showing up in my gallery app, but it would also stop the music from showing up in the music player, wouldn't it?
That is why I would love to have the option to have my music (from settings) only search my "music" folder, and have gallery only search "dcim" and say "downloads" folder.
I know this is kind of nitpicky, but I really think it should be an option. Maybe I'm not so much looking for an instant solution, but rather others opinion on whether or not this should be available functionality.
Also correct me if I'm wrong about the .nomedia file in the above mentioned instance.
Late night bump.
Am I really the only one bothered by this?
If you have a .nomedia file in a folder, it will be excluded from music and gallery searching. There is no way to choose specific folders to include with stock apps, so just create an empty file with that name in the folders you want to skip.
Delete the album art JPG/PNG files; all modern music players for PC allow you to save album art to the media a tag instead of a seperate file. The seperate file is proprietary Microsoft invented crap.

Thanks, deleting the files worked. I'm just trying to remember when and how I embedded the album art into the songs
I still think android could improve how it handles media. But maybe that's just me.
Give MediaMonkey a go, if you're as fussed about your music collection as I you will fall in love the batch tagging and organizing features are unmatched.
Edit: If you want to use autosync/autoconvert in MM it will require the paid registration for gold features. Also, AAC encoder is an extra paid addon... but it can encode MP3 and WMA native. It does ogg, but ogg has non-standard album art embedding... which Android doesn't pick up.
Edit: if you want just a batch converter that can embed album art, try dbpoweramp - mature, industry proven, and also freeware. Its miles ahead the bloatware/shovelware converters out there!

I'll definitely look into it thank you
