You just need to update your drivers pal. There is a guide in the development section by BTDAG, must be somewhere on the 1st two or 3 pages in the dev bit.

This is a total noob question, I know, but how would I go about updating the phone to 2.2 Froyo? Everytime I plug the phone to the PC, the PC doesn't recognize the phone so I can't put the Froyo .zip onto the SD card. Any ideas?
Do you have the drivers?
Did you put debugging mode on?
Did you press the android button to unmount the card for use in pc?

markiebe, are you using a Nexus One?
I know, I know. That question shouldn't have to be asked. But if you are using Sense, it is assumed that IF you have a Nexus One, you have rooted it and flashed it with a new ROM. But if you are not sure how to get your phone connected to your computer and unmount the SD from the phone, I can only assume that you are not using a Nexus One. If so, I would recommend the section specific to whichever phone you have. But keep in mind that the 2.2 source code only just came out so 2.2 might not be available for whichever phone you are using anytime soon, if at all.
If you are using a Nexus One, please try the steps that Mike Blitz has listed to try and get your phone to be recognized by your PC.
Mike Blitz: Yes, I have the drivers and have put debugging mode on. I am not sure what you mean by the android button to unmount card..
obstacles: I am using the Nexus One and is rooted and unlocked.

Ok. Cool. My post wasn't being sarcastic or anything like that, just so you know. Just wanted to cover the basics since there weren't specific details.
If you are using a Windows based computer, try checking device manager to see if the phone is being recognized (try scanning for hardware changes) and make sure that it isn't showing that the drivers are incorrect. If it does, manually update the drivers and see if you have better luck.
I haven't gone through the manual update to Froyo yet (stock AT&T-band N1 ) so I cannot speak from experience. But if I remember correctly, the leaked Froyo builds from Google need to authenticate with a signed stock ROM on the phone. So you may not have much luck going straight from your Sense ROM straight to the stock Froyo builds that are out there. You may have to revert to your stock Eclair ROM and go from there.
So I got access to the SD card, I had to put the phone in recovery mode. Do you know where I can find the Eclair ROM?
Two Questions
No mount option now. Does the phone automatically mount to a PC once updated JI6?
Use a mac and in order to connect need to turn USB debug on. Anyone know where they moved it to?
xda - This forum is awesome. Could not wait for the official update. Took me 10 minutes and phone is running great. My first use of Odin but went very smooth with following instructions provided here. Just wanted to say thanks to all..
I've bought 2 x LG GT540 phones for my son & daughter..
Both are from the Carphone Warehouse and both are Android 1.6
I've downloaded the LG support tool & USB Drivers and have tried then on Win XP & Win 7.
Windows detects the phones and we can mount the SD Cards, but the LG Support Tool doesn't see either phone.
So how do I upgrade them ?
I have 2 kids pestering me to upgrade them then they can install their apps etc..
Merry Christmas
Thanks..
Use the Kdz updater!

eclair
as i know update is stopped by lg at the moment and promised to launch it again by the end of month but i dont believe them
try lg pc studio IV,should work
I used the instructions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864769 and it worked well first time.
Doesn't that flash a non standard LG ROM ? I don't want to void the warranty.
Some people have suggested LG Support Tool, Others Kdz.. do they both do the same thing and can they both flash the official rom ??
Thanks
I have got the same problem. I can send apps or other files to sd card and I can use phone as usb. But when I use lg support tool or lg pc suite IV it doesnt connect my phone with that program. I dont want to root my phone, because it is new and I need guarantee.
Install all supplied driver in the suite, make sure usb mass connection only in uncheck, restart ur device
When i was at 1.6 it's indeed rather hard to connect to pc suite, 2.1 fix this prob.
My suggestion is u dl the cpw official rom manully (if there's any, i think i read about it at modaco) then flash it using kdz..no one will know the diff

I dont know where is problem, when I start phone update it says my phone is not connected to pc, but it is. I have installed all drivers, phone ist not "mass storage only". My computer finds the phone, but that LG program not.
Ok I did it. You need all drivers installed, must be in login as administrator in windows. Then only run lg support tool and in the phone turn off mass storage only. Then connect phone with computer, it finds the phone automatically. Update procedure will start. But it is possible your download will not start for first time, then simply restart phone and connect and run lg support tool again. Probably you have too install three drivers: LGUnitedMobileDriver, LGSmartPhone_Modemlink, LGWindowsMobile_USBDriver. I have done this and my phone is updating.
You can also try it with LG pc suite IV, but the procedure is same. Im sorry for my english I hope it helps
Hi
I've never got around to this.. but I should be doing it this weekend..
Can anyone point me to the exact files I need.
The phones are currently on Car Phone Warehouse 1.6
I'd like to get them to 2.1 or 2.2 if they will run well at that..
Thanks
A simple search on google :

Root
You can always un-root your phone. A simple flash of a Stock ROM should return your phone to the way it was when you first bought it.
I have been trying to root my gf's new epic 4G and after a few complications I am pretty sure I am facing the same issue I had with my Evo.
There were the instructions I used to fix it on the Evo: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
Would this same fix work on the Epic or would changes need to be made? Thank you in advance.
Idk and this belongs in the q and a form

For further clarification:
I was using the one click root after connecting the phone to the computer with win7 and getting drivers installed so that it was visible through adb with "adb devices". After beginning the rooting process it says it should take about 2 minutes but if it takes more than 5 to reboot the phone. After 20 minutes I rebooted the phone but now when it is plugged into the computer I go into devices manager and the phone no longer shows up with adb and mass storage, it shows up as a non-functioning device. When trying to update the usb drivers it says that they are already current and that the device is not functioning properly. After rebooting the computer and the phone I tried to connect it with adb and it identifies the device but shows it as offline no matter how many times I try killing or restarting the adb server. The only solution I have found to this issue once it happens is to go into recovery and wipe everything out and start from scratch.
After some searching it is clear there are tons of users out there that have apparently run into this same situation. Unfortunately all of the recommendations are "you need to update the usb driver" or "restart adb" and after the OP says that doesnt help then the thread goes dead and the OP typically resorts to using an sd card reader on their computer. This issue plagued the Evo for a long time until someone figured out that the recovery was setting the Evo into USB debugmode and fixed the issues for everyone with the above post. I am pretty android savvy and I am friends with a couple developers that I asked first but they said they werent sure and that I should ask the devs of the Epic. If I am in error mods please move or delete this post.
Anybody know how to get my gs4 to recognize my pc. I have drivers installed through Samsung kies, and since my phone updated itself to mk2 im just trying to re root. But yes, usb debugging enabled, developer mode on, I can see the gs4 in the menu, but it wont tell me to authorize the computer with its rsa fingerprint
Try going and re installing the SDK from the website (I can't post links, sorry.)
The computer authorization feature is fairly recent and it is most likely that your version of ADB isn't new enough.

Could also be the usb cord your.using. also try different usb ports
don't use kies. i don't need safestrap, but keys caused me issues on the phone being recognized. never needed it on an i337, older mdl version.

Yes! 15 Second ADB installer saved me. Our computer was having a hard time installing anything for the gs4, but the installer helped it finish. As soon as it did that it magically recognized each other and I authorized and rooted my device! going for battery life tweaks without changing the stock kernel as I can't...> Right now after 20% bat used I'm on track for 8.5hr theo. which will probably give me about 7+ on screen with about a 16 hour day. I'm excited. imagine that they say the new chips for next fall use 25% less power. One Of those devices rooted with a custom kernel would last a long time.
