Need Help: HTC Sense to Android 2.2 - Nexus One General

This is a total noob question, I know, but how would I go about updating the phone to 2.2 Froyo? Everytime I plug the phone to the PC, the PC doesn't recognize the phone so I can't put the Froyo .zip onto the SD card. Any ideas?

Do you have the drivers?
Did you put debugging mode on?
Did you press the android button to unmount the card for use in pc?

markiebe, are you using a Nexus One?
I know, I know. That question shouldn't have to be asked. But if you are using Sense, it is assumed that IF you have a Nexus One, you have rooted it and flashed it with a new ROM. But if you are not sure how to get your phone connected to your computer and unmount the SD from the phone, I can only assume that you are not using a Nexus One. If so, I would recommend the section specific to whichever phone you have. But keep in mind that the 2.2 source code only just came out so 2.2 might not be available for whichever phone you are using anytime soon, if at all.
If you are using a Nexus One, please try the steps that Mike Blitz has listed to try and get your phone to be recognized by your PC.

Mike Blitz: Yes, I have the drivers and have put debugging mode on. I am not sure what you mean by the android button to unmount card..
obstacles: I am using the Nexus One and is rooted and unlocked.

Ok. Cool. My post wasn't being sarcastic or anything like that, just so you know. Just wanted to cover the basics since there weren't specific details.
If you are using a Windows based computer, try checking device manager to see if the phone is being recognized (try scanning for hardware changes) and make sure that it isn't showing that the drivers are incorrect. If it does, manually update the drivers and see if you have better luck.
I haven't gone through the manual update to Froyo yet (stock AT&T-band N1 ) so I cannot speak from experience. But if I remember correctly, the leaked Froyo builds from Google need to authenticate with a signed stock ROM on the phone. So you may not have much luck going straight from your Sense ROM straight to the stock Froyo builds that are out there. You may have to revert to your stock Eclair ROM and go from there.

So I got access to the SD card, I had to put the phone in recovery mode. Do you know where I can find the Eclair ROM?

[Q] HEEELPPP please

I have a Samsung Epic and i rooted it to put the wifi tethering. Everything had worked fine and i decided to try some rom's out and try to upgrade to 2.2 before my provider decided to senf my the download. Anyways i tried to do some stuff with odin in that regaurd and it would never work. I came to find out that it was not reconizing my device on the computer. I have had the phone hooked up before after rooted and it worked fine and i was able to see my sd card and do everything. For some reason no computer will reconize my phone. It installs only three drivers and reconizes all of them, but they are named different then before. It seems that something has happened to the internal program of the phone were it is not sending the correct driver look up to the computer. I dont get the ADB interface driver install to even pop up and try to install. I took my buddys epic and hooked it up to the same computer and it did the proper driver recognition and installed fine as well as the adb driver. I mounted his sd card and it worked fine. I plugged my phone in to same computer it did a totally different 3 driver download all sucessfull put they had different driver names and there was no ADB driver reconized or attempted to install. The proper drivers are already on the computer and every epic will connect just fine except mine. I have done a factory reset and data wipe as well as my sd card wipe and it still does not connect to my computer. The drivers that keep installing when my phone is hooked up is modem cdma technology driver and usb device. Who ever has an epic will know that when you first plugged your phone in you got the name of the drivers as they were trying to install well for some reason mine now say ( unreconized device ) on the three drivers and then downloads them from microsoft and all say sucessfull. Unfortunately sucessfull is not the correct word cause without that adb interface driver loading i cannot mount my SD card. I have tried this on 4 computers with different operating systems and none will see the phone they all load these three wierd never seen driver descriptions and none enable the sd card to be mounted. I dont know what to do i cant take the phone back to sprint to have the factory origianl program put back on it with the correct drivers cause the phone is still rooted. Factory reset did not un root it and i cant connect the computeer to my phone to unroot it. Any advise would be great. thanks
For odin to recognize ur phone you have to be in download mode. To get download mode you have to hold the 1 button the the keyboard and turn the phone on at the same time. Also connect your phone to you computer after odin is already running.
Ps. This should be in general
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
i did the download mode and odin to reconize the com of the phone but fialed right offf the bat trying to install the new pit file and tar for the 2.2 upgrade so i gave up on that but i cant get my phone to connect to a cmputer to even mount the sd card to save my life. I can wait to get the update from sprint to 2.2 before i can install roms but i cant do anything until my phone will conect to a computer
Recovery mode and factory reset and then restore your nand backup.
Please post questions in General section.
i went into recovery mode then did the factory reset im not sure what (nand backup means) can you be more specific. thanks

That just means a Clockwork backup. You made one, right?
unfortuneatly i deleted my sd card where clock work was and also when i tried to do clockwork before doing all this it failed as well to make a back up. I have had horrible luck trying to do anything with this phone other then the simpple one click root i did when i got it. So yeah sounds like im screwed cause i have no clockwork backup to refer to. Is there a way to take the sd card out of the phone put whatever it is i need ot on the sd card and then place it back in phone and try running it from there..I have rom manager installed on the phone once i had set it back to factory defaults so i can install custom roms from that. Would putting a custom rom on the phone fix the driver reconigtion problems im having or is that stuff burried deeper into the phone?
Also is it possible to take my friend epic that i have here with me and get the needed files from hhis phone back onto mine. I would hate to think i have a huge paper weight now cause sprint is going to tell me to pound sand cause the phones been rooted. Would this also be possible, If i was to take my buddies sd card put the foryo 2.2 update.zip folder on his sd card or simply place his sd card that has his stock update.zip file on it and place it into my phone and do a update.zip in recovery mode would that possibly fix the problem im having? Something must have happeend to mine cause when i try to do the update.zip from my sd card wit the one that came with the phone i get this meesage while it goes through the verifying update package. (e.file signature invalid abort installation) i can see in that folder from my phone that there is a adb file inside the bin folder which im hoping will fix my problem if i can get the phone to compleate the update.zip install.

[Q] NAND Rom flashing

Don't be decieved by the title.
My problem is that I literally can't seem to figure out what I need to do to flash:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166948
The Dorimanx rom.
I've downloaded it. but how do I flash it on the phone.
What I don't understand is that my first rom, Dandiest, came with a package, had an installer and everything. Installer.exe, DAF.exe, the things I needed to flash it.
I downloaded the Dorimanx rom, and I couldn't find any of those things there.
Nor could I find a simple explanation on how to get it on, probably because it is assumed you know what you're doing before getting it.
I've read at least half a dozen threads on how to, etc. and I still am absolutely lost. It's just very confusing, even though I have actually read the "first flashing rom" guide thing.
Call me stupid, but I literally just do not understand.
lol, calm down .. and welcome aboard.
There is no reason for us to call you stupid, we were all noobs at a point in time.
And (I'm certain) you did your part of reading and searching.
All what you have to do is follow this tut by me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16528026&postcount=7
But swap step 8 with your ROM (obviously )
Over time, you won't need this.
[Presuming you don't want swap]

cheers mate, though. Unless I don't have more than 150mb~ left for apps I don't want swap.
As far as I understand, it's an extension for the internal memory? right now i have nearly 1 gig on the Dandiest rom.
Anyways, thank you for your post mate.

You are welcome, I am glad I was able to help you.
Swap is an (sort of) extension to the RAM, and not to your internal.
After flashing, you'll have more than 150 for apps, yes.

Unfortunately the problem now is that the application will not connect to my phone... How do I fix that?
It recognizes USB (Serial -> USB thing) but won't connect.
What's won't connect to what?
In which step are you exactly stuck?
Do you have the required drivers? if not, you can install them by pressing the "Drivers" button on the HD2 Toolkit.

I didn't install the drivers at that time, no.
Though, when I run the .exe's it just opens a cmd, runs some stuff, then closes. is that right?

Which exe are you alluding to? Within the toolkit? If memory serves most options should bring up another window that you need to go through. Make sure you've started the toolkit as administrator (right click). And if its not connecting properly you may just need to disconnect and reconnect.

Indeed, what .exe? is it the toolkit? if yes, then you must be doing something wrong. Because the toolkit has a GUI, not texted. Make sure you have installed it, and run it as an admin.

Not the toolkit, the drivers. You told me to download the drivers.
when I execute both the exe's, All I get is a CMD window, and it closes back down once it runs for approx half a second.
I was asking if that was correct, for installing the drivers.

I think that's allright.
To check if drivers are already there - enter bootloader mode (power + VolDown) and after that plug it via USB to your PC. If you hear sound of connecting device, i say its ok.
You won't have access to data on your phone, it won't show as a removable disc. In my case "My devices" shows my phone as "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM". So if you hear that sound, just go to another step, to MAGLDR install. It should work.
I use this ROM myself, and its awesome. Hope this helps

power + voldown gets me into the red/green/blue screen. Surely that isn't the bootloader.
Right now It won't connect anyway though.
EDIT:
I reconnected it into a diff port, now windows auto installed some HTC USB connect stuff. now it does recognize it. This was the required stuff?

As far as I know i'm using the very latest ROM. And haven't had any problems so far. It's absolutely lightning fast. even though I have no idea if I did it right with the memory selecting stuff. I just did the 150+5mb. And suppose that is correct.
But yeah, zero problems. lightspeed. so im absolutely pleased. But I suppose if your rom is working fine.

Clockwork Mod without USB

I know this is possible depending on the phone, but on the Vibrant I have not found a way to install clockwork mod without using USB. I saw that mobile odin was an option for some samsung phones but not the Vibrant.
My usb port is dead, no warranty etc. I bought it for 70 in like new condition with knowledge that the port was bad. I figured that the port needed to be soldered back down. But after taking the phone apart, I don't see anything wrong with it. Its not loose on the board, but the socket itself is loose inside.
The baseband is KA2 Eclair. I got it rooted with the oneclickroot tool.
On a side note, the phone also came with pictures of the seller and all his girlfriends naked . Not pretty
So let me review what you want to do, you want to install CWR without having a USB port. Seems easy enough.
Firstly, find a app that will let you connect to your phone to your computer, apps like Dropbox, Box, and this app i put up on these forums a bit ago will do more than just the job HERE
install one of those, which ever you like. I'll use the MIUI File Manager as a example throughout this post because its the easiest.
Open the app, go to the FTP and start service, go to your computer open MY COMPUTER and type in ftp://all your #'s
Put this file in your ROOT meaning just in sdcard/ no folders just drag and drop it in there. DO NOT RENAME,EXTRACT OR ANYTHING TO THE .ZIP just put it in the sdcard/
*Thanks for the CWR file from Woodrube and S15*
Now go into Recovery mode on your phone
Power + Volume up and down ( i think )
Press REINSTALL PACKAGES
It SHOULD say something like booting into clockwork recovery.
it will reboot, if it goes to clock work recovery, GREAT. If not, press Reinstall Packages AGAIN and it should directly go there.
Just reply if i'm explaining something wrong or if you need more help.
Or you could just download and install rom manager and flash clockworkmod through there. No offense xriderx, just seems like a lot of work to just install cwr that a single app can do as well.

To each his own, Rom Manager never has worked great on my phone. Even bricked it completely once and I don't believe it was user error.
Relevant guide, +1 cookie. One suggestion though, organize the steps a bit further so there is a clear distinction between steps.
ie:
• Now go into Recovery mode on your phone, Power + Volume up and down ( i think )
• Press REINSTALL PACKAGES. It SHOULD say something like booting into clockwork recovery. it will reboot, if it goes to clock work recovery, GREAT. If not, press Reinstall Packages AGAIN and it should directly go there."
Anywho, to the OP: Since it's rooted, why aren't you simply downloading ROM Manager from the market and installing CWR from there?
edit/ beaten
Don't get me wrong, your tutorial is spot on, I just never had any problems with ROM manager before so I threw it out as a suggestion.

As far as the port goes, Eugene, Krylon360 and myself all fried ours when we were porting the V4G - so you may not visibly see anything wrong with it at all.
Thanks guys, I ended up semi bricking the phone . Even though it was my 6th droid device. Not sure what I did, I was in recovery and everything was working, then went to reboot and it was stuck on the Galaxy screen, could no longer get into recovery. Too bad that USB port was out . I ended up just reselling it to a guy for parts and still made some profit off it. Shame though, that AMOLED display was beautiful. Ended up getting a G2X yesterday for 195, just missed one at 150 on craigslist. Already got it up with CM 7.2 with a minor OC. Hopefully towards then end of this year I might be able to get a Galaxy 2 for cheap.

Just a reminder to some who have USB port problems. I'm not trying to insult anyone's intelligence here but remember Samsung phones are picky about USB cables.
I know because my phone was Semi bricked while doing Odin. Turned out my original Samsung cable went bad halfway through Odin'ing a new bootloader. After two months of playing with it I tried literally 5 different data cables that all fully worked for other phones and a few cheap off the street cables. Some would not even charge my vibrant but would work fine for data and charge on my wife's LG Quantum. Hard to find good micro-USB cables here in Peru. Finally I ended up modifying my original cable with another cable's micro-usb connector and wrapping a separate ground wire around the shield to get it to work. Samsung phones must require really good shielding to communicate and possibly not all cables have the shield connected on both sides or are properly shielded.

[Q] [HELP] PC does not recognise my phone after upgrading to Jelly Bean

Ok phone specs first
SGS I9000
Devil Kernel
I9000XXJVT Baseband Version
JRO03H Build number
Not sure what else is relevant.
My problem is that since I upgraded to a Jelly Bean rom (can't remember which one) my PC no longer recognizes my phone. It won't charge when connected by USB. I've tried different USB ports and checked that the cable is fine with another phone. Also, the micro(mini?) USB port on the phone is fine as I can charge from the mains.
I can't find the phone on Device Manager/My Computer and not even Odin recognises it when I plug it in. What's wrong? I've installed Kies to try and reinstall drivers, that hasn't sorted it out.
What do you think the problem is and how can I fix it?
Also, I have an idea of which ROM I may have used, but I'm not allowed to post links yet. If you search "How to upgrade the Galaxy S I9000 to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean via a ported stock official ROM" in google, it is the second link that comes up.
Thank you for your help.

Try a solution from My Android Solutions
But First powerdown, pull out Battery, SIM CARD, and EXT.SD card, press power button for a minute, than powerup without SIM and Ext.SD Card....
(Do remember to backup your contacts, data, images etc and also your EFS folder before flashing a ROM and make sure you have more than 50% battery charge before you attempt any sort of flashing.)
Ok, tried pretty much every thing there except messing with hardware. Nothing has worked.
Is there anyway of transferring files wirelessly to the phone? I can live without USB connection, but I do need to be able to stick music/files on there.
Thanks for pointing out that link btw, I'm sure it will be useful again when something else goes wrong >_>

Wiped Phone, OS is gone and phone is unrecognized

Hello everyone,
I have wiped everything using the TWR recovery boot option in a really poor attempt to unroot my phone since it was behaving strangely.
Now it look like my OS is gone and the phone cannot be recognized anymore by my PCs even if I install the appropriate drivers manually.
Since it is no longer possible for me to attempt to flash the phone with a stock firmware using odin, I have attempted transfering the file on the phone using the sd card and installing it through the TWR recovery menu however it does not seem to be a possible option.
Does anyone have any advice to propose to restore the phone with a working OS?
It should still be able to load a recovery file from TWR, I am just unsure where I could get these since they differ from ROMs available everywhere else, I can also make change directly to the device drive using the file explorer so worst case scenario, I suppose it could be possible to copy past all the content of an image over there via the sd card.
Thanks
what happens when you put it into download mode and connect it to a computer? can you even get to odin mode? there is a way to ADB an OS onto it , but its pretty particular and usually not necessary.

The download mode seems functionnal on the phone, however the phone is not recognized by any PC which render it useless. My guess is that some files or driver on the phone side got deleted and it is no longer sending the right information to the machines it connects to.
Loading ADB into the OS seems like a neat idea, I didnt know it was possible. I am just unsure if flashing from within the phone is functionnal, my guess is that it probably work, but it is perhaps just a little riskier than doing it from an external device.
Thanks, I will try that, if you have any further advice, let me know
Edit : Oh I just realized you said to ADB an OS into it, yeah I don't thinks its possible, since nothing recognize the phone.
Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers on your computer? Tried a few different computers? And, more likely to be successful, a few different cables?

Yes, it also worked perfectly fine a minute before everything get wiped. I am pretty confident the only way to get it back working would be to copy the files into the phone manually, I am just unsure what files I should copy to the root since I have never seen how it usually look.
That's weird because I don't know of a way to wipe stuff in such a way to remove the capability of Odin connecting to a computer

Hmmm I went on cyaogenMod and installed it on my device using the sdcard. Unsure why the stock OS wouldn't work, but at least now the phone is functional.
The phone is still not recognized but it seems like it is slightly better, it now displays as Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). Which is better than getting disconnected right away from the computer. Now it probably just is a matter of fixing the drivers or the phone further since I have messed around a lot since everything stopped working.
Alright thanks a lot, it didnt occur to me that I probably could install other roms. Im still unsure whether or not I should stick with it but thats the least of my worries right now
