I use astro and in the home panel with all my folders there are a bunch of other things floatin around in there. Id like to know if i can get rid of them or even put them all in a seperate folder. Heres a list:
.thumbdata
Autorun
CDAinfo
com.handcent.nexts (2 of these actually)
default capability
memstick info
memstick
MSTK_PRO
Temp 16464 thumb
Really its just a matter of clutter....reg files mixed in with my nicely organized folders....very bad.

Rather than sending out a CD with the phone. SE have put all the applications you might need to access your phone, on the memory card. (PC Companion for a start).
I suppose if you make a backup of those files, then there is no reason why you can't make more room on the card and tidy it up a bit.
speaking of memory card.
does anyone know what the maximum size is that the x10 can recognize??
I think they mentioned 16gb but few people have reported 32gb to work an all

It will support 32gb. However you'll likely end up spending as much on the card as you did on the phone. I think they run at least $200 usd. Probably wont stop me from getting one when they arrive here in CA.
I've done format on XPERIA sd card by chance and I must to recover all data which were on card before format (inc. PC Companion instal, instruction, folders, files, etc.)
Do somebody can create copy of memory card and upload on server (rapid, hotfile, etc.) or send me on my private mail: [email protected] ??
It's very important for me, because it's not my phone.

Ok guys, you know how you can recover or fully delete files in your PC right? You can use a program like System Mechanic. System Mechanic can also do that to an external device like a digicam or mp3 player. When I say files I'm talking about pictures, videos and multimedia stuffs. I didn't back them up. I just deleted them and of course the occassional hard reset. Now I have some questions:
1. I cannot make my XDA II show as a removable device. I put it in the cradle but it's not showing up as a removable device. I was told that you have to put it in "Storage Mode" and not in "Sync Mode". Anyone who knows how to do this? Or make it appear as a removable device?
2. Do you know of any way to recover files deleted in my xda 2? or fully delete them aside from the system mechanic program?
3. Is there a way for me to reformat my xda 2?
4. When I hard reset my phone, does it delete files permanently and has no way of recovering it?
I would appreciate answers to my questions. Thanks!
your PPC makes use of RAM as a hard-drive, thus when files are deleted, they are deleted, they're not flagged as overwritable by the OS as you find with a physical HDD in a PC.
agree'd but that may not hold try for SD Cards if you just delete a file
being that sd cards have a limited number of writes before they go belly up
it would be silly to truely delete files when you delete them from the os
of cause a format should truely delete everything on the SD card
But how come my officemate was able to recover a file in his nokia phone? He used system mechanic. It showed up on system mechanic as a removable device.
Thx for the answer but I don't get what you're saying with SD cards. You mean SanDisk card right? Can u explain more?
SD == secure digital
and yes sandisk makes sd cards like they make pretty much all other
flavours of flash cards
not sure how logitech handle their systems internaly
one thing you could do to make sure that your pda really delete
the stuff is to get the program which makes your pda work
as a usb mass storage cntrl device in that case normal pc undelete programs should be able to access it like other volumes
Yeah that's what I'm trying to do. I have a system mechanic program on my PC. Unfortunately, my O2 XDA II won't show up as a removable device. ANy ideas on how can I do this?
As my first post, sorry for my bad english here. U can use softick cardexport. use googl....., and u can use as a removable device.
hhhmm..it says that it's for palm..wld it be compatible with xda 2?
Yes, you can!!!
You can do it, read here:-
http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=61620
that's for if you've had a piece of removable storage and the FS and/or files on the media have become corrupted (probably due to an incomplete write and bad timing) it is NOT for people who have intentionally deleted files from their card. neither is it for the PDA's on-board memory, which this guy has quite clearly killed intentionally, also mentioning that he has performed the odd hard-reset too.
secondly, just to point out a crucial aspect of your flawed logic;
if it is possible for files to remain in the memory of the PDA even after things such as a hard reset, then why is it that if you remove the battery from your PDA, then leave it in said state for about an hour (drained backup battery) the PDA will be blank after I put the battery back in?
I am no longer able to see my memory card when i connect my phone to my PC and can no longer see it when i go into file explorer!! Can someone tell me what maybe wrong or possible solutions. It was just working a little bit ago and then i can no longer get into the memory card through my PC or on the phone.
if i put a different memory card in the phone it will read it, it just wont read the card that came with the phone for some reason, what the hell is going on here?
Ehh not looking good here. While your phone is connected to the PC make sure 'Disk Drive' is selected and not 'Activesync'. If nothing still, I suggest placing the SD card in a USB reader and plug it directly into the PC. You should have your answer there. Good luck.
i just think its weird that my phone will read other memory cards and not the one that came with it, but when i put the 16gb card in a diff phone it is readable?
starkall, I would suggest copying everything that's on the card to your PC (using another phone or a card reader), placing the card back in your HD2, and doing a format right on the phone using the native utility for that (settings-all settings-system). This has cleared up the "disappearing card trick" for a bunch of people
when i use a card reader for my pc it wont even show up, can anyone send me the stock files that come on the original SD card. Thank you
i tried doing the facotry reset also and it still wont read the card, im lost i guess LOL
yeah sounds like a bad card. there should be a dl list of all the stock apps here on xda. look in the htc leo section, i believe there is a sticky on it and that you can dl each .cab one by one. the only thing that you may not be able to find here is the transformers movie files due to copyright. other than that, i'd hit up tmobile and get a replacement phone or sd card or both.
is there a way to delete all the icons from my phone that dont work now, like transformers, blockbuster, mobitv, barnesnoble etc... since i cant use them

Using file explorer (either on the phone or through activesync), just navigate to windows/start menu. There you will find the .lnk icons for everything you find on your start menu and in quicklinks. Delete or rearrange those (into folders for example) however you wish...they're just links.
EDIT: for mobitv, blockbuster, etc (everything except the movies really) you can download and reinstall the apps...they're all available at the thread ryan562 mentioned, and here's a link to it (it's also stickied at the top of this forum section):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=663845
Just look for the two links there with "extracted cabs" in the title
the movies is what i wanted most LOL i called HTC and they are sending me a new card but are out of stock at the time being, BUMMER i know!!!!! I put my buddies SD card out of his HD2 in my phone and everything works so hope i get my new card soon, my son loves to watch transformers.
When I copy old 16gb card to new 32gb, the new 32gb it gives me defective card notification, but if use it as blank works fine, I guess some of the files I am copying causing some error.
dito33
may be the card. i got a bargin off E-bay and it turned out to be junk. the next one from Amazon was more epensive but did work proper.
That's what I thought at first but when inserted as blank formated works ok I can take pic, view, copy some file etc, but I need to transfer all my stuff from old 16gb original card, I guess I go pick and choose items.
On second thought when inserted first create files that are different from original and causing some problems I am working currently on that deleting those files and copy all stuff back in not sure if gonna work.
dito33
It's probably a fake card.
Same problem here. I spent a lot, so I hope its not a fake. It will let me transfer a couple gigs of data, but after that the stuff vanishes.

copy the stuff from the 16 to your PC. Put the 32 in, mount it and copy stuff back a little at a time, maybe that way you can narrow down if there is a set of problem files. I wouldn't put the "Android" folder back on the SD - thats where the apps 2 sd stuff is pushed and it probably won't work right.
That's what I did copied 16gb to PC then copy back to 32gb WinXP couldn't copy all but Win7 let me skip some skin files when put in epic error but if format in epic first then copy just video files around 5gb its ok. I gonna try narrow down what causes copying little at the time.

I just switched from the iPhone 4S 64 GB AT&T to the Note 3 32GB AT&T and put in a Sandisc extreme 64GB microSDXC.
I had problems with the iPhone freezing and crashing. Doing a factory reset, a lot of my programs disappeared from iTunes. It was getting to be really annoying.
On the Note 3 I love the screen (size and resolution) and many other things. Asphalt 8 and RealRacing 3 look and play great.
While I had to call AT&T to block my outgoing Caller ID, I could do that from the Note 3.
There is no sales tax on purchases from Google Play store in Texas, while Apple always charged me 7-7.5% (I know because there is no "retail presence" of the Google Play store in TX).
Bad annoyance: I did, for as many programs as I could, the "Move to SD Card" and now I have ugly default android gray icons with SD in the right lower corner. How do I get the original icons back without transferring back to "device memory".
I am trying to upload music files to the SD card.
When I use Samsung Kies 3, will it upload the files to the SD (did not see an option for that anywhere). If it does not install it to the SD card: where are those files uploaded and how do I transfer the files over to SD and how do I play the files/playlists? Is there a way to directly transfer the files from the computer to the phone bypassing Kies. How and where do I upload books (pdf and other formats)?
Anyone know if there will be a combination extended battery/wireless charging case in the future?
My 14 days return time frame is not over, but they would have to "pry it from my cold dead hands".
The way I would do it is to just take the SD card out of the phone, stick it in the computer, copy and paste. The music player should find the songs automatically. As for the icon thing with the "move apps to SD card".... I don't know about that one. I haven't seen any reason yet to do that.
Welcome to Android, where you can use any file explorer on any OS to copy any file you want to any location on your phone.
You don't need to use Kies for media. Just use the phone and SD like you would any usb storage. In the music app you can then either select the specific folder, or let it scan the entire device.
Also no need to convert files, it plays pretty much anything. (and if the stock player won't, another will. For video I suggest Diceplayer from the start.)
Kies is for backup and sync, everything else you can do the good oldfashioned way. Most of us have never even installed Kies.

OK first you need to release the mindset of itunes for everything as in with Kies. DONT USE KIES lol
Just plug in your note 3, open up the folder you want, it will say phone or card
Drag the files you want. If thats not cool with you, there is an app called iSync that can copy your iTunes playlist over to your phone.
Also I think you should leave your Apps on the phone memory and not on the SD. Use the SD for media and your internal for apps and such. This way if you need to replace the sd or whatever you will be good.
Historically Google removed that option from android because it causes issues like for example the corrupted icons you've experienced. Samsung only added it back in with the 16 gb s4 because the system rom got so big it left users with less than 9 gb available space.
As the poster above said chuck all your media files on the external card. The 25 gb you will have initially available internally is more than enough for all of your apps unless you install a dozen or more high end games. Likely you'll only ever play a few at a time and then remove them when you get bored, at least I do.

Thanks for all the tips. I will try it tonight.
Welcome to Android, enjoy the coming months of playing around and finding out what you've been missing out on! I was an apple user until the Galaxy S2, since then I've never looked back! One little warning though, customisation becomes addictive... Flashing Roms, kernels, rooted apps/services.
Xda has some amazing devs contributing and as always they are happy to help a friendly fellow androider.
Back on topic though, I wouldn't even bother moving your apps the SD card? 32GB is loads of internal storage! Even tho we only see 25(ish)of that, below is my games folder and I have 8GB of internal memory left! But if I feel like freeing up space I'll simply use Es file Explorer and copy the game files from Android /data to my SD card (if rooted, use titanium backup app to backup the apk of the game) and swap back in at a later date if I wanted to play again
Hope this helps

I saw iSyncr in the app store for $3.99 but there were a lot of 1 star ratings.
I will do the direct copy via Windows.
Internal storage is a constant struggle. Now that it's rooted, is there any way to make the tablet view the external storage and internal storage the same?
You could have always moved apps to the external card - just go to Settings->App Manager->SD Card, pick the app to move and click the "Move" button. There is also a way to make it so that you can move ANY app to external SD card (search for it) - or I can post a link later.

Thanks for your input. It would allow some apps to be moved, but def. not most of them. I have done a search to find what you're referring to. If you get a chance to link to it, that'd be great!
Thanks.
There are many tutorials on how to do this - here is the first one that came up in a Google search. Just be careful - this will allow you to move ANY app to SD - even apps that shouldn't be moved! Also, if you use a widget for an app, you shouldn't move those apps either as it will break the widgets.

Folder mount is one which works on all android based rooted devices (from 2.x android to 6.0)
Hi all! I am having the same issue. I bought my children these for Christmas, and I was shocked after we installed a couple apps and ran out of space! I put in a large uSD in one of them, and I could not move 90% of the apps over to it! Again, I was shocked.
I am SO glad I found this thread. So can anyone elaborate, like using Folder Mount for example. It sounds like I MUST root their devices in order to ever achieve moving apps to the uSD? Are there any other non-root alternatives, etc?
Thanks so much!
I used a free app from the store called Apps2sd. You have to create a second partition on the sd card, but then you can move/link all apps and associatec data to the sd card. One big thing to keep in mind is sd access times... depending on your sd card, it might be several orders of magnitude slower than the internal memory. I bought a UHS3 sd card and it offer acceptable performance. Hope that helps.
