Flight Mode battery drop - HD2 General

Hi,
How many % battery power do you loose, when you are asleep over night, in "Flight Mode" ?
I have a battery drop of 33 % in 6, hrs...
How many % loss is normal/expected in 6-8 hours?

Very little, knowing that with phone on and data connected a night is about 5-10%...
You have a program that prevents the phone from entering standby, i.e processor is running all night for nothing.

Interresting, but my task manager shows nothing...
I have now downgraded the ROM and Radio to stock HTC settings, giving the following spec:
Manila: 2.5.19211619.0
ROM: 1.48.409.1(71294)NOR
Radio: 2.05.51.05
Protocol: 15.28.50.07U
My friend has the same spec, and he charge his phone every 3-4 days...

If you are losing more than about 5% in flight mode over night then something that tells us that your problem is not wifi/bluetooth/3G related and therefore a CPU cycle issue. First thing I'd do is do a soft reset just before you test it again to clear any programs from memory which are taxing the CPU and see if that improves things. The second thing that I would do is REMOVE (not error check to know that this is the problem before solving it) the micro sd card as file problems there will make the HD2 go crazy.

I can only suggest the traditionnal:
- Task 29
- Flash a GOOD custom (won't advertise)
- Find the RADIO suitable for your AREA (no flight mode intended)
- Stop installing those pesky nasty feet-coded background service relied programs rolleyes unless you're willing for the tradeoff
- Don't overmod either....

Anyone elses Battery always losing power?

My battery loses 33% every night, it is switched off wih all of the phone, wifi, bluetooth switched off. Is this not a bit much to lose every night? Could this be a problem with my battery? Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Euan
Yes that's not right at all, I don't turn my phone radio off and still will only loose a few percent overnight. Are there any application left running, reminders or alarms that are waking the device up?
It might be more of an issue of the callibration of the battery monitor. Have you tried allowing a full discharge then a full recharge and see if that fixes what is reported, otherwise consider that you have a defective battery. Is it a new device or second hand?
this is an issue with Radio 1.08 and 1.09
As Gajet says check apps running in the background, the Camera app in my experience will drain your battery
I don't pay particular attention to what's running on the phone overnight now, other than I turn the wireless mode on so I don't get rung at 3am! Can't say I use the camera that much and upon looking at the phone in the morning, I'd be surprised if 5% has gone during the night.
I would certainly check that the cam app is closed before you leave it overnight. I presume nothing daft like Wi-Fi or a GPRS/3G connection is left running?
Cheers
Ant
EDIT - on the GPRS/3G note...do you leave the phone ON overnight and do you live on a GSM/3G signal boundary? I know that going back and forth into GSM/UTMS can cause battery drain as it's flipping between the two standards.

I am using radio version 1.09.00 but no battery power loss on mine.
1. Check if your previously used application(s) are not sitting in the ""Start->Settings->System(tab)->Memory->Running programs (tab)"" make sure there isn't any application sitting-down and sucking the battery power.
2. Check if your bluetooth is not continously on, bcs it really sucks the battery.
3. Check if your WiFi is not continously on, bcs this also drain the battery.
Also try "Spb Pocket Plus", this software has got a nice feature which close the application completely once you tap the "X" cross button.

battery drain problems with HTC softbank X01HT

I have an HTC Softbank X01HT windows mobile phone which I bought a few weeks ago while in Hong Kong january 2007.
It seemed to work fine when trying it out before buying in Hong Kong, (tried my SIM card to make sure that the unit was not locked) tried the basic functions etc. but since I have had it and after returning to Canada, I noticed that the unit was using up the batteries within a 6-8 hour period even when not being used. This was even with the phone, wifi, bluetooth functions disabled. I also tried to recharge the phone (which works fine), and put it on standby with and without the micro SD card in the slot, (nothing in the slot not even the plastic spacer), just in case there might be a power draw through the micro SD contact, and the same results, the battery discharges at a very fast rate regardless. I have noticed however that the phone remains very slightly warm at all times when it is in the standby (off, but able to receive calls) mode, giving me the impression that there is some kind of processor use or battery use going on even when the phone should be idle. I have installed B-idle and it does say that the processor is idle during standby so I guess there are no apps running and no processor use going on, and yet the phone stays as I mentioned ever so slightly warm to the touch. Also I have no second party or other programs installed.
I have tried doing soft resets and even did a hard reset to see if it might be a software problem all to no avail with no results. I have even tried to put the phone on standby with and without the SIM card in place also with no results.
It has happened twice that the phone did keep its charge, but I can't tell you why, it seems to have been completely random.
Once overnight when I noticed that the phone was cool to the touch and at 50% battery power that evening I decided to leave the phone on standby mode overnight. The next morning it was still at 50% battery power. (at this time I had no SIM card in the phone,) but after turning the phone off completely, then taking out the battery and inserting the SIM card and replacing the battery and turning the phone back on (on standby), the battery immediately began to discharge at a rapid rate again and was down to low battery in a matter of 4-5 hours. The other time that the phone seemed to hold its charge was after having performed a hard reset, and the phone seemed to feel normal and cool to the touch after an hour of sitting on standby and again the battery which had read 50% before performing the hard reset stayed at 50%. I then charged the phone and after taking it off the charge again the phone would feel warm to the touch and would loose about 10% charge every hour to hour and a half.
I have also tried to charge the phone with no SIM card in the phone and leave the phone on standby and still the battery discharges at a quick rate and the phone feels very slightly warm to the touch at all times.
It seems that there is no obvious cause for the discharging of the phone. I'm wondering if it might be a short somewhere in the hardware?

For security sake I would remove your IMEI number
and your serial number from your post.
If you are still having problems with the battery try
this.
Try putting your phone in "airplane" mode and see
if the battery still gives you trouble over night.
If it does NOT then make sure your phone is not
having problems finding a signal (i.e. you're in a GSM
only area and your phone is searching for a UMTS
signal all the time which would heat the radio up and
kill off your battery.
thanks very much for your info. And also for the tip on imei number and serial number. Is there really much someone could do with that info?
I finally did send the unit back to HTC and they reflashed the memory with another version of operating system and the phone now is working fine. Was a very good idea to try flight mode. Didn't think of that. I finally did figure out that if I pulled the battery and put it back in the phone would stay on standby, (even with phone on standby), it was when I would make any call over ~1 minute or if I did any wifi that the battery would restart it's drain process and the phone would remain slightly warm. wierd. Anyway the flashing of the rom seems to have solved the problem. Now the new problem is that the vibrate mode seems to have given up the ghost. Any ideas?
thanks again for your imput

Fast Battery Drain over night

Hi guys,
I have a problem with my Jade. I've charged it last evening and I've barely used it. When I've went to bed it was 96% charged (ARIELbattery) and 10 minutes used.
This morning, when I've woke up, The battery was 33% and and the phone was 34 minutes usage time.
Something is wrong. Since there were no bluetooth, no wifi, no anything activated. And for sure, nobody played with the phone during the night.
This is not the first time when I see this behavior, but is the first time when the decrease is so big.
I suspect an app, but I do not know which of them. How can I see it?
Do you have other suggestions?
thanks!
There are some possible reasons:
Some SD-Cards seem to drain battery, so you can take it out for a test.
Some additional software is told to drain battery. Did you install something?
It is also helpful to switch to "flight-mode" over night. This normally reduces battery drain to nearly zero, if no additional consumers exist.
Hi,
Yes I've installed some software, like gAlarm, S2U2, icontact,ThumbCal, Skype, etc but last night none of them was started.
What can I do with the SD Card?! I need the SD-Card. Which card does not drain battery and which does?
I cannot turn off the phone over night.
Some clues here in this forum

I've read those before posting, but there was no answer to my problem. I have 67% drop of battery in 8 hours without touching the phone.
This is most likely that your device goes to screenoff or unattended power state instead of sleep. Your power settings might be corrupted. To change that go to your power settings advanced tab and change everything there (checkboxes and sliders), press ok and then change them back as they were, press ok. I'd suggest to keep the device turning off in one minute while on battery and none of the checkboxes for cord powered mode. There is a really freaky thing that even if you get your device to sleep with power button it will go back to screenoff mode after time specified by the turn off device slider while on battery IF you don't have that turn-off-while-on-battery checkbox checked there.

Thanks for the answer. But I do not really understand what you are saying here.
My power settings are: 30sec for Screen Light and 1 min for Device (on battery).
None of the check boxes is set for the case when the device is powered.
It could also be due to the battery defect. After some time the battery could lose its storage ability (because of the defect), despite the mAH stated.
As a comparison, my battery is nearly one year old. On full charge, overnight drawdown (on sleep mode) is about 2%-3% .

I have no own experiences with this programs but Skype for example needs permanent connection to internet when activated (be care of the background job!). This uses data connection and this drains battery. I can not quantify this in %. In addition Skype does not allow the system to switch to deep sleep because it needs permanent connection!
None of the app was started. I just have Skype installed, but it was not used.

I found some German threads that discuss a problem with this software and battery life. Some loose 10% over night others 50%. I think you should try to uninstall (and afterwards soft-reset!) for a night and see what happens.
Please keep us informed.
First of all, I've disabled the 3G. Now it only gsm with gprs. Since I've done this it seems the battery drop is ... super ok. If yesterday morning I've had 33%, this morning I've had 20%, so 13% drop in 24h, and the phone was used normally as before.
last night the S2U2 was not started.
I will wait until the battery level reaches 10% an I will do a full charge.
I will keep you informed. Thanks to all for advices!
Some clues here too ...

Hi,
So now, 2 weeks later... after setting my Jade to GSM only (no 3G) I get 7-8 days of normal usage. As I said, before I always had to charge it the third day.
Normally, i get -28mAh drain in standby. When the screen is on around -130mAh (for wake up) and then -70mAh. In a gsm call i get around -250mAh.
I did not switch the phone back to 3G yet, but I will and I will see again the battery drain.
PS: the values were provided by Mobadi.
i believe i have S2U2 installed... and my phones fine!
i have the overloaded rom... and battery life seems great only needs charging every 3 or so days and i do use it quite alot!
so...
after some time of testing and re-testing I still have, from time to time, the behavior that during night I see a massive drop in battery level and an increase of the usage time.
I do not know what is going on, but I suspect that some app is waking up the device to do some work (without turning on the screen), and the Jade cannot go to sleep anymore for a while.
I've notice the same behavior on a HTC Diamond 2.
Since none of the app I have installed on my Jade are installed on my friends Diamond2, I have no idea what app could do that.
If anybody has any idea, feel free .... I am idea-less!
I've made myself a little application to log the current values of the power data. So, I've saw that my phone wakes up each hour by himself, without turning on the screen, does some work (cca -70mA) and after 30sec goes back to sleep.
Any ideea about this?

Need to recharge ALREADY!!!!????

Can someone explain to me how, with the phone turned off (just the phone option in settings, almost airplane mode, but still using WiFi) and screen brightness set to lowest possible,
am I getting a 21% battery drain in 1 hour????? I just fully recharged this joker, and within 8 minutes it went to 99%, soft resetted, 95% at startup...soft resetted again, 90% at startup...within 15 minutes I had dropped 10%!!!
2 nights ago, I left the phone on standby at 65% overnight...woke up to a 2% battery charge!
I looked at task manager and there was nothing running...okay, just typing this and down to 77....I'll soft reset and update the %.....11:05pm...
okay...it's 11:07 and upon startup, phone batt. % was at 70%...I lost 7% just by restarting...
currently using Xannytech 1.7c ROM (yes, I need to change my sig...)
Any ideas?
i am no tech guy but i'll go with saying maybe your battery is dying or i donno have you tried getting a new one ? my battery reading is highly consistent and they sure as hell dont fall down as much as yours does in short time periods. mine after a full discharge charge cycle holds on every percentage like a m o and stays with me for two days.
performed a hard reset?
SR will only really fix lockups/unresponsiveness (like the reset button on your PC)
HR is effectively a full reinstall from scratch. will (or should) cure power management issues like you seem to be having.
ofcource, it could be the battery. A HR is free so i'd start there...
I treated my phone like a baby for its first three months, and the first day I left it unattended when I went to the loo, my friend spilled water all over it...
Now the (range of new) batteries I buy for it last only 7 hours tops before hitting 0%. So maybe, like mine, there's something in your phone that is rapidly draining your battery? (Still not been able to solve my problem six months down the line )
Morning...left the phone off overnight and woke up at 69%... Never spilled anything on it...maybe flashing to stock rom may help?Just reading your posts and I'm down to 67%. WITH PHONE TURNED OFF AND LIGHTING AT MINIMUM. Maybe flashing to stock may help? 66%
11 am...well, ended trying out a reflash of Xanny 1.7c...restores ALL programs through Sashimi. Went to do some grocery shopping (yes ladies, I cook too!), had phone on, playing music through headphones for about an hour and battery went down 5%...an improvement...will update if anything else changes
Ways your phone uses power
My phone got moist when I was running in the rain, and the power button (on the top of the phone) seems to be permanently pushed in. It looks ok and I can push it, but the phone doesn't notice. The result is that my phone is constantly draining the battery and I can only get about 4 hours out of a full charge.
Also note that some ROMs are configured to download data for multiple reasons/applications, at regular intervals. These include:
- weather updates
- My Location updates
- Twitter feeds
- email checks
- AGPS updates
- GPS updates
- updating phone's clock from Internet
- MyPhone synchronisation
- PIM Backup scheduled backups
Then there are numerous settings that may be set to run all the time:
- Infrared ("Beam" settings)
- Wifi, especially Wifi power mode (Performance vs. Best Battery)
- wifi router
- Bluetooth
- Vibrate (any time the phone vibrates, a small electric motor spins)
- enabling auto-dimming features such as auto screen brightness control
- Smart features that use the phone's light or 'motion' sensor e.g. Mute ring when phone placed face down or make phone ring louder if placed in your pocket
And there are settings that have a more pronounced impact on battery:
- wifi in a weak signal environment (more power is used to boost signal)
- wifi encryption type (none vs. WEP vs. WPA) (WPA uses more CPU than none)
- screen brightness
- volume
- screen dimming and blanking timeouts
I'm sure there's more, but these are ones off the top of my head. Some ROMs have some of these features enabled, some features are enabled by you when initially configuring after a flash. If you want to keep power consumption low, you need to check or consider all of these and make decisions that trade functionality for battery life.
And of course, your battery could simply be poor, wearing out, faulty, or low quality.

Battery issue

I have read some threads about htc devices and their battery- life and behaviour and i didn't really read about the problem i'm having.
The device (topaz) is about 2 weeks old and i'm fairly satisfied with the batteryperformance. Playing with it for about ten minutes would make my battery drop about 5% which is very reasonable.
But lately - speaking of 3 days - i have this weird issue; the battery drains like hell; when i send 1 text message the device can drop 5-6%; which is quite much and absolutely a heavy fall suddenly, compared to what it used to be.
Also, when charging the battery, from 0-70% goes very fast, like about 10 minutes. The other 30% go slow.
I configure the device like this:
- GSM mode
- No wifi
- No bluetooth
- no data connection
System: beam is switched off, data only goes through 'my work network' and band is switched to GSM (which means no 3G - again)
My experience happens when i have no other applications (like GPS) running, and I also have G-light enabled (polling 100ms, mostly 40% backlight, and i have this running since day 1)
I did switch my rom quite often; but I always performed hard-reset and battery calibration afterwards.
installed in current order:
- Touch InCall
- Tomtom navigator
- ageye g-light
- TD2 tools (large cache settings)
- Taskbaricon 6.5.3
- Zenyee disable HTC messaging
Roms used: Dutty R6-R7
Radio: 4.49.25.17, 4.49.25.57
There are some rather aggressively power hungry ROMs and the culprit is mainly Touch flow/HTC sense.
Turn it off for a test and see if there is a difference!
Well, I do experience similar problem. My battery charges for 70% very fast and at 70% it seems to stay forever. (whole night) I haven't done anything to my phone yet. I have it just like it came from T-Mobile. I didn't install any additional application besides sbp backup. I do keep my memory running at around 40% all the time. I have Win6.1 and TF3D on. TF3D is T-Mobile customed, so not sure what manila it is based on.
Please, anybody, do you have other suggestion as what the problem may be?
I want to flash the ROM, yet with these issues I am still reconsidering. If it is faulty battery I would rather go and exchange it as it is still in warranty.
Thanks in advance for your help.

"Battery calibration is simply done by running it down completely until the phone shuts off by itself. Then remove the battery, wait 10 seconds, insert again, repeat. If the phone shuts off again in less than a few minutes you're done. Remove battery and hold power button for 1 minute, then insert battery. Don't switch on the phone. Plug the charger and recharge the battery fully until the green light is on. Then remove battery, hold power button for few seconds, insert it and switch on the phone..."
thanks for the tip. will try that. Still, a link for battery tips? I remember a post where a member explained how the battery works I am interested in knowing if it is better to drain the battery or when the battery is lo/very low it would be advised to recharge ...

Here is a link on the Wiki regarding battery consumption.
With Li-Ion batteries it is not recommended to discharge completely as it is with NiCad every 30 cycles.
If you have flashed another ROM that has changed your radio ROM, i.e. you've flashed an official ROM, the Radio ROM will be your culprit for increased battery drain. A weaker radio will constantly have to search for the best network and thus use more battery.
For a few power saving tips;
1. Setup sync times instead of pushing emails.
2. Make sure your data disconnects after use (a few programs out there for that)
3. Set your power settings to turn device off at select times of inactivity
4. Increase your file cache size.
5. Enable auto screen lock
how do you enable auto screen lock? I'd rather not use TD2 Tools. is there any other way?
