Whynot just use Linda file manager or DroidExplorer(PC) to install the apks?

And you are certain that you are flashing with this update.zip ? Remember apps like RomManager also puts an update.zip in the root folder, so make sure that you are using the correct update.zip

Wildfire Bootanimators Help

i have a htc wildifire, which has been rooted and installed with openfire rom. But i would like to install a custom boot animator, after reading posts i have realised that you have to gain adb access to your phone if im right?

any suggestions are much apreciated.
same problem , you need to use root explorer , or this one ,adb, i download root explorer but dont now how to run it and try adb but it was difficult to me (adb, java, eclipse) ??????
ive tried using root explorer, but it dosent allow me to replace the bootanimation.zip.

dl a bootanimation.zip file you want to use
place it into your android sdk tools folder (im assuming you have the android sdk installed)
e.g. mine is C:/android-sdk_r06-windows/android-sdk-windows/tools (yours would be different obviously if you installed it somewhere else)
reboot phone into recovery (well i do anyway)
run a command prompt
CD to your tools directory
type adb remount
type adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zip
type adb reboot

NS 4G - Need radio image dump

Looking for anyone with a new NS4G to dump a copy of the radio. I messed up and flashed a rom that had a gsm radio attached. rendering my phone useless as far as phones go.
root
post a good root method and how to do the dump. I can have it hotlinked in 1 hour
i used http://jaxov.com/2011/02/how-to-root-android-2-3-3-gingerbread-on-nexus-s/
worked just fine.
Once you're rooted, do
Code:
adb shell dd if=/dev/mtd/mtd5 of=/sdcard/ns-cdma-radio.img count=12583040
Then upload that ns-cdma-radio.img somewhere ;D
?
ok thanks, i will link it when finished
the dumped file will be in my phone memory, correct?

You don't need the platform api, just the SDK tools/platform-tools , that'll save you a lot of download time.

instal drivers?
look to the 2nd rooting method i posted. the 2nd file you download are the drivers. you would install it when your phone is in fastboot mode then go to device manager and upgrade the driver
unzip the rar file and make sure to select x86 or x64 driver for your pc.
you should be able to type "fastboot devices" hit enter and it will return your phone if you have the drivers installed
Also the simplest method to get the drivers might be to put phone into fastboot mode, plug USB to computer, then install PDA Net (which automatically installs the phone drivers). I personally could not get the drivers to install manually on Windows 7, had to use the PDA Net method.
CMD is giving my a Permission Denied with this command

Try this: (I am assuming you've already finished rooting and installed superuser)
run adb shell
that should give you a "$" prompt in your command window (you've just shelled into your phone)
then type "su" (without the quotes)
On your phone, a superuser request should pop up on the screen, hit Allow
Your command prompt should change to a #
then type
dd if=/dev/mtd/mtd5 of=/sdcard/ns-cdma-radio.img count=12583040
*EDIT: made a typo in the original writeup of this post and left out the count parameter*
(no adb shell required before the dd command this time since you're already shelled into the phone)

i didn't do that i just ran ROM manager and flashed the latest Clockwork. you're backing up the old recovery. in that step, good idea, sure. needed, not really.

Actually the point of renaming that script is to prevent clockwork from being overwritten by the stock recovery.
The default stock rom is set up to re-flash the stock recovery from cache on bootup if it detects that it's been changed (which is very annoying if you *want* clockwork recovery).
thank you very much for uploading that for me
now correct me if i'm wrong netarchy but i would use fastboot to flash the img file?
I just want to double check before i mess up once again. i'm pretty smart and a quick learner but not a pro like yourself
worked?

Someone help with root

ok everytime i go to backup the fashrec it says unable to backup or backup failed and i can no longer follow the directions on how to root the phone. Is there anything im missing? PLZ SOMEONE HELP ME!!!
that cause you need to downgrade for flashrac to work
and what version of android are you running
make sure you go into settings applications and unknown sources are checked
if you are running 2.1 you can just download androot http://bit.ly/dbsWmj. next on you phone go into the android market and download a file manager eg astro file manager then also download rom manager
put androot on you phones sdcard then open astro file manager and find where you put it on your sdcard click on it then open app manager then install the androot
open androot press root and make sure it is super user for 2.0~2.2 then your rooted then open rom manager and then flash clockworkmod recovery
if your on 1.5 do the same but don't download rom manager because it is not in the market when your on 1.5 so you download androot http://bit.ly/dbsWmj and astro file manager install androot then make sure it is super user for 1.5~1.6 then go to the market and download Android Terminal Emulator then download a recovery you like http://files.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=amon_ra/RECOVERY/&file=recovery-RA-hero-v1.7.0.1.img
then rename the recovery you just download recovery.img and make it is on the root of your sdcard meaning not in any folders then open android terminal emulator type in these commands su (press enter) when the super user permission comes up press allow flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img (press enter)
reboot recovery (press enter) this 1.5 guide was found here http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/howto-simple-root-install-a-custom-rom/

[HOW TO] Flashing ClockworkMod via ADB

So was helping someone flash ClockworkMod via ADB in another thread, just thought if I made a topic for it, everyone can see it so if people have any issues they can always use this method instead.
Anyway, here are the instructions:
The 'flash_image' is within the attached zip file! Use the file within the zip file, NOT the zip file itself
The 'recovery.img' is your chosen recovery file, get this off ClockworkMods website or if you have a copy use that. Then when flashing the recovery image where ever it says 'recovery.img' replace that with the name of the recovery file.
Put the recovery image and the flash_image on the root of your C drive.
So,
(make sure you're in the command prompt and have changed directory to where the adb file is)
adb push c:\flash_image /sdcard/
adb push c:\recovery.img /sdcard/
adb shell
su
mount -o remount, rw /system
cp /sdcard/flash_image /system/bin
cd /system/bin
chmod 777 flash_image
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
It has now been flashed successfully
Hope this is of use to some people
Thanks! Very helpful.

Dude i didn't know u weren't rooted yet. U don't need to use adb to root. Just Google z4root modaco and click on the first link. Install z4root and permanent root it. Don't forget to install rom manager and flash cwm from within it
Oh, well z4root doesn't work for me cause i got 2.3.5 i heard that the only way to root my blade is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319257
and that doesn't work, it freezes when i enter the command "adb reboot bootloader" it reboots and stay on the ZTE logo and freezes. :S

You need to install drivers for fastboot if you use Windows. Sometimes you might need to unplug the usb, then plug it back in again & try fastboot again.
It should at least give an error.

What's the point in using fastboot to flash clockworkmod, it's just another way of doing it, some may prefer other ways (yeah via rom manager is a lot easier i know) but spread the knowledge, may be of use to some people.

You don't need your phone to be rooted to use fastboot, it's a method for new stock roms that have all the common root exploits fixed.
So, what's the point in this method when using Rom Manager is much easier? If you've already rooted your phone then this has to be one of the hardest possible ways to install clockworkmod.

I was never able to get fastboot working for my blade, always had driver issues, yet adb was fine. So I was able to use this method to flash and try the clockworkmod recovery touch that was released for us (turned out to be useless haha) but that couldn't be done via rom manager (well yeah, but you had to pay and i'm a poor student) so that's an example of when it could be useful.
point aside this is just another way, I just want people to learn as i am here to learn too.
Permission Denied
I need to flash CWM recovery using this adb method since I dont have data on the phone(Videocon Zeus V7500.. a clone of Commtiva Z51).
I have all the files in the right places but when I put the first command I get the following error :
I:\>adb push c:\flash_image /sdcard/
failed to copy 'c:\flash_image' to '/sdcard//flash_image': Permission denied ,
What permissions do I have to grant?
Try adb push c:/flash_image /sdcard/flash_image
Sent from my RACERII using xda app-developers app
Nevermind I figured it out, the problem was that I had mounted sd card to PC and I guess that was causing the problems.
I got it to work and have flashed CWM recovery now
Code:
I:\>adb push c:\flash_image /sdcard/
751 KB/s (26172 bytes in 0.034s)
I:\>adb push c:\recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.3-z71.img /sdcard
2444 KB/s (3831808 bytes in 1.531s)
I:\>adb shell

# su
su
# mount -o remount, rw /system
mount -o remount, rw /system
# cp /sdcard/flash_image /system/bin
cp /sdcard/flash_image /system/bin
# cd /system/bin
cd /system/bin
# chmod 777 flash_image

# flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.3-z71.img
