Hello,
I can not change the video resolution of the camcorder. It is stuck to S(128x96)".
when recording a video the quality is bad.
If I look at the settings, resolution is "S(128x96)" in light grey so I am not able to select and change it.
I had the same problem a few weeks ago and did a hard reset which solved the problem, but I had to set all parameters, mail, ... again, and I don't want to keep doing that.
I read the post "Video recording not working in 640x480" but the solutions there (changing bitrate, deleting the registerkey,...) are not working
Changing MPEG4 to H.263 or H.264 is not helping either.
Is there a way I can unlock or edit the register to record in a good quality?
can anyone upload the registry order from the camera ?
than can everybody with cam problems download it and fix the problem
sry for my english
did you install Bsb? on yor HD mini?
BsB was not installed.
I installed it now.
There are more options for the video format, but the resolutions still is "S(128x96)" in light grey... This is so for all video formats...
Try to hard format the phone.
I did hard format the phone the first time I got this problem. It indeed solves the issue, but as I had to reinstall all extra programs and make all setting again, I would like to solve the issue this time without having to hard format (reset)...
how about try to restart your phone.
yes. restarted phone, even took out battery for some time. But it did not work.
I just noticed that MMS Video has the same problem. I can not change the resolution but here it is M(176x144)
I also stopped all running programs in the task manager, but it did notsolve the problem.
I presume some program is locking the resolution setting?

Im starting to get the feeling my phone never came with it. I can't find it anywhere.. does anyone know where it should be? Even a directory location would be helpful but i've searched the phone from top to bottom looking for it
coreplayer is not included software for htc hd2 (as far as i know)
Its not included, you can get it from http://coreplayer.com/
While I get 158% on benchmark and it plays really smoothly (in the benchmark) it then judders and is useless when not in benchmark mode, so I wouldn't bother with it...
I am having problems installing Coreplayer. Running the purchased pocketpc cab file it tells me my hardware isn't supported. I have been in touch with Coreplayer (who take at least 24 hours to respond) and all they can tell me is I need to use the pocketpc version, this is what I am using. I've paid for this and it won't run on my phone even after factory resetting, I'm getting frustrated now after 3 days of trying.
Has anybody else had problems? Are there any possible solutions such that I can install it?
Any help gratefully received
Ah cheers guys. I hate video reviews that show apps and claim that they come with the phone lol. Yeah i'm not reading great things about it though so I deffo wont be purchasing it.
It's working just fine with me, make sure you set GDI as video output.
Coreplayer works fine on mine... although it doesnt rotate or follow the GUI like it used to on my omnia.
This seems to be a failing throughout the interface... the rotation doesnt follow the device.
Is there any way to fix this
GG
Direct Draw seems better than GDI on mine, wierd
Coreplayer installs and works fine, however i am unable to enable A2DP functionality with with my headset. It recognises volume control but not pause, Forward or backward.
However i think this is a device issue, as i've tried installing S2P and it does exactly the same thing!
Anyone have any ideas?
I have the feeling that the image quality on HD with QTV enabled on Coreplayer is better when playing the same file on HD2 with GDI or RAW FB.
Anybody can confirm ?
I just found this thread and wanted to thank tnyynt as I had been using Coreplayer with the default DirectDraw setting and the playback wasn't so great but changed to GDI and it surpasses my Archos 5 IMT. Top stuff.
So GDI is better than DirectDraw ? haven't noticed any difference, at least for me. Although GDI takes advantage of hardware acceleration at some points.
In scenes where the camera was panning sideways with Directdraw you could see the image kind of wobble as it redrew the picture from top to bottom but with GDI selected this no longer happens. Much smoother playback of XviD's for me.
Can you guys please post details of the verions of Coreplayer you are using?
I ask I was 'acquired' a copy of v1.3.2 to test and it seemed fine. I then went and purchased a copy (latest - v1.13.6) however on installing this it seems dreadful no matter what settings I used.
Not sure if this is something to do with me uninstalling one version then installing another, or a ROM upgrade etc, however just wanted to check.
Cheers, Simon
CorePlayer v1.3.6 on HD2 only 50% qality rending any video !!!
The video image quality on HD2 with CorePlayer v1.3.6 GDI or RAW is lower with 50% !!! When playing the same file on HD2 with HTCvideoPlayer video image is the best !!!
is anyone having a video playback problem with HTC video player ???
I have, tried openeing a rather low-res MP4 video, and it wouldn't open it; the screen was black and it only said "loading" or whatever.
I tried 3 or 4 times, and during the last attempt it said something like "fatal error - blah blah - ARM11"
I didn't risk trying openening any videos again
No problems here at all - with mp4 files. Any other format is... disappointing. Except maybe if you install another video player app.
the problem, i am experiencing is the video recorded with the handset can not be played at all. i had to do hard reset couple of times just to have it work again. this happens after i install some applications. i tried uninstalling the apps, but in vain.
really appreciate if anyone can help me out here !!!

If it works after a hard reset, but not after installing some apps, do a hard reset and then try playing a video after each installation. That way you can identify which app is causing the problem.
Sounds like you'll need another hard reset afterwards, but at least you'll know the app that is breaking the video playback, and you can let us all know so that no-one installs it again!
I will bet you its right after you install the youtube app, because it uses similar files (you may notice the video playback uses a UI similar to that in the playback in the YouTube app) Would like to know if this situation can be fixed myself, without having to resort to flashing a rom and losing my warranty

You're spot on dude. I device was playing videos very well until I installed Youtube. Noticed straight away it was that causing the problem. I haven't removed youtube simple because of the fact its a brilliant app! works brilliant with wifi. Such a shame its the only place I can see video footage!
SOME ONE PLEASE FIND A WAY TO FIX IT OTHER THAN UNINSTALLING YOUTUBE!
remove youtube app and still watch youtube on opera
You may find this thread useful in getting opera to work properly when you visit youtube dot com. That way you can get rid of the app and still watch vids from there - you can even cue vids up in a playlist exactly like on a desktop pc.
I think I've done something somewhere... I can't seem to change the resolution for recording videos.
It seems to be stuck at S (128x96). It's all grayed out and I can't press it.
Capture format is MPEG4, but even if I change it to another format, the issue remains.
I've also applied the video tweaks posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638 but still no go.
Any ideas?
No one else is having this problem?
same here. anybody?
The Ultimate HD2 & coreplayer 1.3.6 setup, 3800kbps wvga (h264) no single frameskip.
This isnt a joke, i finally found the problem of coreplayer on our HD2,
this will solve all your problems with coreplayer:
settings:
go to select page then video:
Video Output: DirectDraw (before you change this make sure there is no video running on coreplayer cus it will freeze your device, otherwize,
go to DirectDraw page and change Overlay to YUY2, then change Output to DirectDraw)
DO NOT USE GDI and RAWFRAMEBUFFER- unless you like choppy or framy(lol) videos. (make sure you have 1.3.6 one to get max performance with DirectDraw).
now this is important:
go to select page then DirectDraw:
uncheck Overlay with colorkey
uncheck Use blitting instead of overlay
check Use device streching for blitting.
Overlay: YUY2
go to select page then Advanced:
Soft-Drop tolerance: 0.300 /0.200 /0.250 ( personally i use 0.250 it seems better )
Hard-Drop tolerance: 0.000
check Disable AVC deblocking filter
( EDIT: about AVC deblocking filter:
with h264 you can see some annoying squares on the video sometimes, now i recommend to uncheck this option and use TG01-D3DM drivers from chainfire, although in 3800kbps videos you will receive skips sometimes, but dont use such high bitrate with coreplayer XD tried 2000kbps one and works smooth with deblocking enabled)
after you have done all this coreplayer will run very fast,
BUT we havnt finished yet!!
playback will still have slowdowns, and this isnt related to the settings,
it is related to a bug inside coreplayer, which affects the autoscale feature of the snapdragon.
have you been wondering why benchmark is so high while playback lags a bit?
I explored this thing, i can tell you that when i check "Play movie in backgroung", and watch the cpu speed: it goes down from 768MHZ to 400-300MHZ randomaly then goes back into 768MHZ, interesting isnt it?
when it drops down to 300-400 it has lags, and when it returns to 768, the lags stop.
the final solution:
http://www.netripper.com/leo/cpuspeed/LeoCpuSpeed_v2.zip
this program will allow you to keep the CPU in its position or make it full 1GHZ.
all you have to do is open it then tap "Disable autoscaling" and you will have Full 1ghz speed.
you can explore yourself by re-enabling autoscaling ("(Re)enable autoscaling")
then activate movie playback in background through coreplayer, then go to this software and watch the speed dropdowns.
now the "Disable autoscaling" is perfect for coreplayer, it also use 1ghz instead of 768MHZ, and also does not drop down randomally.
it is recommanded to activate autoscaling after finishing with coreplayer, so you can use more battery, it barely affects the speed of everything else but coreplayer, because it automatically increases to 1ghz when you switch between apps, but does not stay 1ghz inside the app itself.
(im not a native speaker, i hope you could understand this.)
enjoy guys.
Core player does not work anymore!!
Followed these instructions to the letter.
Core player stopped playing videos!
Had to hard reset and restore. Beware.
Edit: I am using (and paying for!) version 1.3.6
I hard resetted because reinstalling did not solve the issue.
Hard resets are almost painless when you backup regularly (I use SPB backup... excellent).
maybe you are not using the 1.3.6 version of coreplayer
thats why it didnt play any video (DirectDraw works only on 1.3.6 and one more version - at the others you get green screen)
anyway why hard reset? you could reinstall coreplayer..
It worked for me though.
The benchmark for video with following properties reads 140%.
Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 848x480 23.98fps
Audio: MPEG Audio Layer 3 48000Hz stereo 128kbps
It plays smoothly. =)
glad this works for you,
dont forget the fix for the cpu slowdown, cus without this the benchmark is only a number, and the playback will be with lags.
can you post your bit-rate?
Thanks for the tip!
Btw, this might be kinda off topic, but do you know how to get the htc volume slider (volume slider as in HTC music player) to work in coreplayer when I press the volume rocker?
Currently, the video will pause whenever I press on the volume rocker to change the volume.
Umm i have no idea,
maybe you can search google, but i have another solution:
theres an option around coreplayer settings to make the video keep playing when it exits fullscreen, so all you have to do is increase volume, then go back to fullscreen and the video keeps playing..
working
"you are good, you are very good "
No more lost frames, works indeed but now quality is not so good, I see lots of artefacts on my lower framerate videos.
Maybe I messed up some settings ?
i guess you did, go over the color settings etc.. ( i use 0 on brightness )
there is absolutely no drop-down in the quality,
if i play the same video also in album - you cannot tell which is which if i show you both in fullscreen.
I made those brightnes settings and the artefacts are still visible .
???
Thanks for help
ummm i dont completely understand what "artefacts" is lol, (not a native speaker sorry, i used dictionary but the meaning doesnt make sense xD, maybe you should try to explain this better)
i do understand that the quality isnt like before, this means you messed up with the settings somewhere. i do not see any drop-down in the quality of my movies.
Artefacts are little squares on the screen when is lot of movement
Sorry for my poor english
got it, do you say these werent there before? actually this is common with flv files.
one more question: does it happen when the screen goes black?
yes these apear after your settings
I had first part of settings ( yuy2 ) and I guess they apeared after I did the second part of settings ( soft and hard drop )
nope this is defenetly not related to soft and hard drop, im thinking now with my hd2. but tell me if you mean those squares when the screen goes black, cus somehow in the past i solved this.
when the screen is black , the squars are not visible
when I watch any movie, video they are very ugly ( in some grey area )
i cant notice any squares, once i had them left on the black screen, but i solved this, there are no squares!!
try use videos with higher bitrate, usually low-quality videos cause squares, also i would recommend to go back to the default settings to see if theres any difference which i guess there isnt.
EDIT: try unchecking Disable AVC Deblocking filter, and tell me if this helps. (this massivily drops the benchmark)
strange because I did not see them before
How I can reset to the default settings ?
install again ?
Try enabling avc deblocking filter (in the edit last post)
im going to sleep... 2:00AM here, Cya.
when I enable avc deblocking filter those artefacts are not so visible
but now freezes the playback, is not so fluid like before
when I disable avc filter it is smooth but with larger artefacts
I give up and go to sleep, thank you a lot,
to be continued
Guys, my video recording does not work in 640x480 nor in 320x240. Sound is recorded, but no video... Only CIF works like expected (Video with sound).
Anyone else with that prob?
Thanks,
Marti
Hi,
i got the same problem.. there are only sound on the video recording..
The same after installing "ringtone-patch".
got the same problem. only works in CIF resolution with H.264
I do not have any problem recording video both on momory and SD card and with sound in 640x480 / MP4.
Could you explain how to reproduce this behaviour ?
I fixed it by deleting HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\recparam\MP4VGA registry key.
If you afraid of deleting, try to rename it.

YESSSSSS!!!
It works fine after deleting of this reg key.
Best regards to all,
Marti
is it really working?
when I bought HD Mini the recording in VGA quality worked fine. I did some customizing (nothing unusual- just installed some apps and tweaked manila to my liking) and.... the VGA mode stopped working. It records audio only. I tried to delete the MP4VGA registry key and after this HD Mini records video in VGA but:
1) the video quality is very poor when compared to the recordings before problems. I checked the files- the resolution is the same (640x480) but the bitrate is drastically lower- it is 375 and used to be 1441. it looks awful
2) the funny thing is that when I opened the registry editor the deleted key is back again. I am a newbie to registry editing and have no idea if I deleted it the "wrong" way and how it restores itsef. I tried several times and after soft reset the key is back again
My most important question is: mrmartischmi and darknos- can you record a high quality files ( hi bitrate?) after the tweak?
thank you
@robertszydlo:
Sorry for the late answer.
You are right:videos have a very low bitrate and thus are of bad quality.
Its false to delete the folder MP4VGA.
I restored it from my backup and set the key "Bitrate" to 1500000.
This made my Videos look much better and the Bitrate returned to be about 151 kBps instead of only 40. Higher values did not work though.
Hope this helps, I am investigating more at the moment...
(maybe someone can post the complete "original" keys of the MP4VGA folder?)
Thanks so far,
Marti
yeah! this one really works (Thanks mrmartischmi!) but it gets me even more confused
after setting the value to 1500000 my phone records great looking videos but the files and the bitrate(well over 3000 now ) are huge! I don't have a problem with large files - it just makes me think:
-what was the original value ( can someone please check and post?)
-why in the world it stopped working? can I expect now to work continuosly and not fail while recording my masterpiece video ?
thank you
@robertszydlo:
I only got 151 kBps, how can yours be 3000?
Did you check on the PC with Quicktime or something else?
Could you post the size, duration and bitrate of a sample video so I can check with the parameters of one of mine?
I am pretty confident, we will understand it in the near future
reg keys

I'm using 1.32.479.2 WWE ROM with the last HTC hotfix installed. Bellow is MP4VGA key folder, exported from my registry and a screen with info about a short video i've just made.
I've checked the "bitrate" key and mine is 1500000 too.
Hope it helps.
EDIT: the keys have the original values and i don't have any problem with video recording.
mrmartischmi,
I am not any math expert so I can make mistakes- that's why I don't try to convert bits to bytes or do any math I just give you the numbers I see on my mac screen when I "get info" about the new file (value in registry set 1500000) it says it is 640x480, codecs MPEG-4 Video, AAC duration 00:16 audio channels 1 , Total bit rate 3,217. It is probably the bitrate of audio+video in bits? I am not sure how it compares to your 151kBps but your bitrate can be video only expressed in KB.... there are probably many guys on this forum that can enlighten us
ci6i,
thanks for help, the one thing that is strange to me is that before any tweaks my phone recorded files with much smaller total bitrate ( get info says 1486) so maybe in my rom the original registry value was lower?
anyway, yesterday I recorded really long files and everything works, so I am happy
@robertszydlo:
Sorry, it was not my intention to bother you with maths... I was just wondering, why the rates are so different although using the same keys in registry. Could you post the filesize of the small clip you mentioned before so I can compare these parameters to a clip of mine?
@ci6i:
Thanks a lot for your help. I compared the values of the reg key to the ones I have now and they are ecactly the same.
So the question is: why did robertszydlo recorded videos with a much smaller bitrate before the tweaking? Maybe there are other keys to change ...
I'v discovered days ago that this bug is generated by using BsB Tweaks with option "Video MPEG4 Bitrate" enabled or HD2 Tweak with corresponding option enabled..........don't use this tweaks utils if not certified with HD MINI....
hi mrmartischmi,
I uploaded 2 videos- nr 1 is recorded the first day I got the phone, no tweaks
nr 2 i after the last tweaks (value 1500000 in registry) ... bigger bitrate ant bigger file. Can I see difference in quality? well- I am not sure- see for yourself
@ SoftWord: you are probably right! I switched the bsb bitrate tweak on, and this could cause the whole problem, thanks for your input
The best quality I got when remove all keys from MP4VGA registry folder except one: BitRate = 1500000. but 15 seconds video is almost 6Mb on card
Notice: If you leave FrameRate = 20 or 30 in MP4VGA, video file size will be about twice less and quality will be worse.

def that's the problem why the video recording not working. without it my video recording's working fine.
watch out with this setting, guys!
