While most of you are probably using the 2.1 flavor of android, I'm stuck on 1.5. This is only due to the fact the my home link to cell phone cannot connect through bluetooth with any of the 2.1 roms I have tried. So I was looking for opinions on 1.5 roms. Like any overclocking? themes? JIT? whatever. Right now I'm just on stock 1.5.
There is no overclocking of JIT on 1.5 roms, but they are plenty fast. gbhil's custom .31 Gumbo kernel makes any rom super fast. Try pairing it with Fresh 1.1 or Gumbo 1.5c or Cupcake or whatever, but it will be fast. Even if you are stuck on 1.5, rooting is still a good thing and there are plenty of options to make your Hero faster.

It seems most of the mods are 1.6. I was wondering if there are any Android 2.x ROMs that run at least as fast as 1.6. I don't want a ROM at the expense of the phone running noticeably slower.
Right now I am running cyanogenmod (latest stable).
thanks,
brian
King's AOSP 2.1
It's the fastest and most stable Eclair build so far. Well that's my opinion. Make your own.

Its quite fast but it sure isn't stable. I suspect its the new JIT-compilation that breaks stuff. Other ROMs have turned it off. Tried to boot mine today and had to wipe the dalvik cache in order for it to boot.
Is there one that is fast and stable?
Also, I see people mentioning Hard SPL. A google search brings up no links to it on the first page of results - just references to it. can someone provide a link?
thanks,
brian
What is your favourite 1.5 ROM for the Sprint HTC hero? If it isn't listed in the poll, leave a post below with the ROM name.
Edit: Uh, having issues with the poll LOL.
Just post it below.
your pancake rom of course! looking forward to you making an official 2.1 rom when it's released...you will still do that right?
Gumbo C Bare.
Fresh 1.1 was my favorite pre DC v1.0

Thanks , and yes, of course I'm doing a 2.1 ROM. I'm waiting until the offical one though. But I gotta tell you, the HTC 2.1 beta builds are VERY fast lol! Might not need speed upgrades!

I was running pancake before I move to the 2.1 section of the plane.
gumbo 1.5c with full senseUI has been my rom of choice
Bikcmp, I don't think I ever used your ROM.. I might of but my memory is still short term.
Gumbo 1.5c BARE was my favorite though.
pancake without sense is a super fast & stable rom...still running it as we speak.
TTG
not the newest one
see sig i mainly use TTG's tweaked to my liking
pancake is my choice. Nice and fast, super stable too.
Gumbo and fresh
Pancake 0.1 sense
Rolled my own 1.5. Basically took Modaco's 2.2 w/ Gumbo kernel and started editing APKs to update colors, transparencies, screens, etc. to my liking.
Now running DarchLegend V2 and started editing APKs yet again to make it my own.
Just moved to Gumbo1.5c bare..... i am lovin it.....its fast.....by far my fav 1.5 ROM
EASILY pancake, nothing comes close... i just added some visual elements that made it my own, but all the hard work was done for me thanks to bikcmp!
now i'm waiting patiently for the bikcmp's official 2.1 ROM-lease.
R
I run Gumbo w/sense.
Modaco was good too.
Pancake no sense wouldn't work for me. I forget why.
I stay fresh to death.... Lol
Interested in overclocking my cpu. I have heard of people doing this at 1.2 GHz and still maintain stability and good battery life. Currently installed is Kernel version 2.6.32.9 after granting SetCPU su permission (and checking always allow) I find that the max overclock is at 1 GHz. Obvioulsy this is not a Kernel that can be overclocked. I tried installing some random Kernel I found online using Odin. This however failed during install and "bricked" my phone. I was able to Odin back to stock, re-root, and re-flash this ROM. Does anyone know of a Kernel that will work with this ROM and allow me to overclock? I really like this ROM so far and I want to keep it!
Thanks in advance,
Your best bet may be searching the Epic's wiki page for kernals. The sticky link is located in each of the Epic's forums.

there aren't any kernels right now for froyo because of no source from samsung/sprint
we have to wait till official 2.2 drops
Thanks I appreciate it iSaint! Is it worth flashing a 2.1 ROM and Kernel so that I can overclock or do you think that overclocking is overated and that this midNIGHT 3.1 (which is blazing fast compared to stock) is fast enough!...... I guess will I notice a huge difference after overclocking to 1.2 GHz?

no problem...if you want stability and speed then you cant argue with ACS syndicate 2.1 but i use MidNight which IMO is very fast and i've had zero problems with it so far there isn't really that much of a difference to me on 1.2-1 GHz but test them out and decide what you like 8)
Looks like I'll just stick with midNIGHT 3.1 for awhile. Any tweeks you know of that will improve speed and performance?

the no journaling mod but i think that flashes with the rom(not sure)
and i delete anything i dont use before i flash the zip
open it up system/app just dont delete anything important or necessary things i delete are (swype, browser i replace with dolphin,launcher2,live wallpapers) thats all i do bro
Thanks a lot, I've allready flashed the no journalling mod. But thanks anyway. All in all midNight is blazing fast and I'm very happy with that ROM. Have a good day!

2 cents here.
Personally 2.1 oc'd to 1.3 ghz on acs gave me more speed than midnight 3.1. Rummaging through the phone the advantages of rfs over ext4 are evident. But Playing games and multitasking goes to 2.1 acs @1.3 ghz for me. The phone flies at 1.3. Just try it. you have nothing to lose and you can easily flash back.
Ill definately give that a try. Is that 2.1 include the gps fix?

Right know I'm running cm6.1 I also got the mytouch rom running
I use rom manager I don't see to much activity there just wondering if
There something better then cm6.1
it depends on if you want donut, eclair, froyo, sense or gingerbread. my favorite gb is cm7 magpie since it has cm features and it's pretty fast. i woul choose froyo by laszlo for froyo. i haven't tried many eclair/donut roms for g1. if you want a fast rom but don't care about features, go with xillius donut or ezgingerbread.
SenseLX good sense rom still getting updates

What is the fastest ROM for Magic 32A? I don't care about radio or spl I can change them. As for the rom I don't care about looks or super duper features, I just want it to be as fast as possible with all things working properly. Right now I think I'm using Ginger Yoshi 1.5.
Completely no one knows?
I like carz's CM7.1 port

try gy 1.5 with old radio the baterry long lasting, cm 7.1 have battery drain issue,
If you want speed, find a light donut or cupcake rom with as few features as possible.
Well, since this is probably going to just be an opinion thread, I'll give mine...
You probably don't want to go all the way back to a 1.5,1.6 ROM, because you will be missing out on a lot of apps that just are not compatible with the old Android versions.
But with the current version ROMS my suggestion is either the Ginger Yoshi 1.5 (2.3.5), good ROM, I've used them all the way from the 1.3
Or the Stock OTA 2.1 ROM with root, because it doesn't have all of the features packed in, but is a solid ROM, and since it is rooted you can still use tethering or whatever your purpose for rooting is.
I say 1.6 for speed...for some speed and batteries with features I said a nice eclair like super e or stock 2.2

Opinion time? Yay!!!
Best donut: super d
Best eclair: idk, haven't used it
Best froyo: dreamteam froyo by me
Best gingerbread: ezgingerbread by ezterry
All of these (maybe not super d) work with 32b and 32a old radio
I like SFM rom (gingerbread):
