Hey,
I'm coming from JF 1.5 and since he has stopped developing I thought I better go to a new ROM, what do you guys recommend? How stable are the Hero ROMs for every day use?
Thanks
I would go with the latest cyanogen stable mod which is 4.04.1 one I believe, there are too differant threads for expermental and stable. My opinion is that I would not use a hero for daily use, too slow, pretty but some people say they have fast heroes
I would try either cyan or xrom. If you want to try hero I would go with jacxheroski but no matter what size swap you have you will get SOME lag and calls will come in slowly, it is all personal opinion though so you will have to see what fits you best.
I went from JF 1.51, to a Rogers, and then went from that to Cyanogen. I'd go to Cyanogen and stay there. It works well and is very fast.
Cyanogen is where it's at. I'm using his 4.1.1 experimental with no probs, but the stable is most likely safest 4.0.4.
whats a rom? is it like a firmware?
I suggest xRom, Quick, simple, easy to use and fast as hell.

lol
hero roms are fast and stable enough(for some people) however the maintainance and cutbacks such as no bluetooth, dim leds , and not being able to have many apps running are not worth it(for me at least) if you want a good stable rom i would recommend any of cyans stable roms however on weekends i do usually flash to a hero rom to see the progress that has been made
and yes a rom is like a firmware
A rom is a modified build of android based off a stock system with tons of good stuff like superuser and unicorns. The word roms were used back when we were are little kids using windows mobile and it just has stuck with us. I would have suggested xrom but that requires the danger spl but since it was asked what's a rom, I didn't think it was a good idea
Ps.. yes I said unicorns, mine has unicorns, if your's doesn't, then you got ripped off.......I would ask your rom dev for a refund
I finally took the plunge Sunday night, going from JF1.51 to CM4.0.4, and I couldn't be happier. It's like a whole new phone!
I installed the latest CM recovery image manually, then installed CM Update from the market, ran it, let it do its thing, and viola!
Hi - my Hero's !
Are U looking for a real hero ROM?
I totally agree with the quote from rdejager @ villainrom.co.uk/forum :
We can all face it - the hero is not made for 2.2 and even more 2.3 .... Our phones are just not made for 2.3 sense and 2.2 sense .... 2.1 sense roms run fine on the hero. and you can really see that they are made for it, cuss everything just works for it, the hardware is made to the software...

So - do U want to use the power of our long development journey in a fresh ROM?(based on WWE Android 2.1 with htc sense 2.1)
Good News:
-> Repack ROM from elelinux based on stock ROM 3.36.405.1!
-> VillainROM v13.0 Release * WWE * Android 2.1 *
-> other 2.1 roms
How do U tweak them? How du U like them?
Thankx for any helpful suggestions!
http://www.ekg-clan.de/pasta/hrdb/index.php?site=a21 choose the one you like most they are all good. but if you want only one named: Cronos 2.1.4.1 Sense Eclair
@iPasta: Thankx for the link - nice overview!
Like to try a 2.1 SenseROM again after spending a couple of months on Ginger & Froyo.
At first I want a speedy and stable build.
I have just tried to flash 7.0 v1.0 (Elelinux) - and no, it is still noticeably slower than Elelinux-6.2.0-RC0-Hero-Speedmachine rom (6.2). Slightly faster that 7.0 v0.9, but still far beyond 2.2. So; is it possible that a 2.1 feels again more faster?
Will report back my impressions - if U like!
I would suggest Mr. Bang's 2.1 Sense ROM. It is, apart of Cronos, the latest updated 2.1 ROM, and is by far smaller in size (nearly 30 MB!). In addition FlyKernel-12a is a good choice
@Krizp0 : Thankx! So:
Do U agree with:
"After a long time playing with 2.2-non-sense-ROM's, I returned to 2.1-Sense.
--> Nothing smoother than 'Mr. Bang's 2.1 Sense ROM' with FlyKernel 12a."
Well, I know I went from 2.3 Gingerbread to Mr. Bang's 2.1 Sense ROM and felt very satisfied with the speed and stability of good old 2.1, especially since Sense makes your phone full and not fragmented so you have to download widgets and other things to get it as you want. The only thing you may miss is the new functions and apps that require 2.2+.
Edit: I also encourage you to take a look at Tegro 2.5 RC3, it is very Sense-like, but I haven't tested it.
If you want a rom that is A sense rom 2.1 for the HTC Hero GSM and build for it and that just works 100%.
Use Villainrom 12. You can customize it with their kitchen. It may be old, but that doesnt mean its crap .
I myself flashed FlyKernel 11C BFS over it and it works fine here .

That. And BTAudio just works. And I can't remember an app being installed in less then a sec.. ever XD.
Why not cook a VillainROM 12 + (12.1 / 13) !?
Thankx for the suggestions - looking again for VillainROM (i'm a donator)!
I'm impressed and feel backed in my plan to downgrade to 2.1 sense Rom.
My question now is:
How do we can make "VillainROM 12" or other "2.1" Roms more stripped and tweaked?
What do U recommend?
- FlyKernel 12 / Implement Kernel tweaks.
- OpenGL
- EGL
- Gallery 3D
- Latest Gapps
- Implement HTC Hero OTA update 3.36.405.1
So - why not cook a VillainROM 12 + (12.1) !?
I am trying to implement this OTA into VR12.1.
Will play with the OpenGL things too

Which kernel do U include into 12.1?
So far as I know a modded version of FlyKernel 11C Cuss 12A is buggy, for me it is unstable and I dont like it. now running 11C on Villainrom and well it runs smoother then 12A

Pulsar had a modded version of Flykernel 11C in his Froydvillain release. I was refearing to that.
What did I tweak. well the lockscreen, battery Icon, and I removed like 90% of the apps. and I updated EGL. And well I love it.
Now I am on Flykernel 12A M652-M176-noatime
I got awesome battery life.
I went back to Ginger for a test. and well no that was a no go....

RCMix is nice and all, but still even VR12 is bloated but RCMix, man... even if you remove all that crap. You can never get the speed of VR12.
@rdjager: How did you update the EGL in VR12?
Hi,
I'm looking for a very stable rom.
It doesn't have to be the latest android version.
I prefer android 2.2, but another version is also good.
I have tried villainrom 13 en froydvillain 1.7, but they have problems like battery drain or crashes.
Elelinux's Gingerbread ROM, maybe?
Elelinux gives my the impression that it isn't stable.
This is because of the many releases and they have sometimes experimental features.
Unless you know a version that is stable?
Does somebody has good experience with cyanogenmod 6 or 7?
Try Elelinux Speedmachine or Floyo 1.2.0, those are Froyo based and probably as stable as it gets
Is this the best version of the speedmachine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906552?
And floyo 1.2.0?

I'm on elelinux gingerbread now. I wouldn't say its the stablist. In fact I don't think anything past 2.1 on the hero is stable. Its very slow and I've had a lot of force close plus graphic corruption.
I'm going back to villain rom 13 soon.
Sent from my Hero using XDA App
Tegro 2.6 is my favorite. Ele's ROM and VillainROM are fast and stable, SalsaSense is interesting enough to try, but I keep getting back to Tegro 2.6. It's quite fast and I'm loving the themes.
Tegro 2.6 is android 2.1?

That fix somehow remove root/superuser for me. I know erasmux said that's got nothing to do with it, but I don't know what else could cause it, because I lost superuser as soon as I flash the fix
I think 1,5ROM maybe is better,,,
A lot of people may disagree with me when I say that Elelinux 3.2 (Gingerbread) has been really stable, but I had to do a lot of configuring:
Wipe Dalvik, Cache AND Battery Statistics,
Unchecked screen on/off animations,
CPU Max 652/ Min 245 (on-demand)
Use JIT
Lock in Home app (Go launcher EX or Zeam launcher work best for me)
Compcache 18%
Fix permissions using Rom Manager to avoid force closes.
I use this setup on a daily basis, and I never get any problems
I've tried Salsasense and have problems with the wifi but doing very well.I don't like Ele cos tend to become slow. I'm using Cyanogen nightly, is quite fast and stable.
Hi!
is there any good ROM for White ZTE Blade II from TeliaSonera (GEN2)

there is only ROMs for Blade which are not good: Quadrant 444 or more
ROMs for ext4... I didn't make new partition because now I use Win7 not ubuntu!
and it looks like I got it to work (GingerBread)
CM7 some features not work sometimes ex: touch screen!
I need good ROM which are most Stable and Fastest!

but thnx!

I use right now GingerBread (Quadrant: 890-980)
Enable Stagefright and you'll get a better quadrant score, not that it matters.
OK, thanks!
have you tried Blue Ginger v5 ?
I actually love it, but am not very experienced and have no idea what Quadrant is.
(note that this is the rom I am struggling to get boot sound on though)
just installed that Quadrant, standard edition
and it gives my gen 2 blade with blue ginger only 760 !
Blue Ginger perhaps no use to you then, but I love it nonetheless.

Man with CM7 you get a new nightly every night! So every time someone suggests you and you reply 'I try Nxxx, I try Nxxx' - there is no way out!
Also, Quadrant scores are rubbish, pointless and baseless! I won't go by that.
None of the Gen2 2.2 will give you a better score than CM7 or any other gingerbread based ROMs.
When you enable stagefright, overclock etc - you might get closer but then you will lose battery WAY more quicker! - so not good enough for daily use.
If you are fussy about Quadrant scores - CM7 is your best bet.
If you are fussy about 'everything must be stable' - then GSFB19 or SSRL5 or Flb Froyo R12 are your best bets. GSFB19 is 2.3.4 and other two are 2.2
If you are not fussy about having fast and smooth phone - then GSFB20.
I know you might say, "Now I use CM7 N162"

the nightly ROMs: yes every night/day newer!
but so what, if the nightly is working more than the normal 7.1 RC then I use nightly older or never!
I wait when they make 7.1 stable or 7.1 RC then I use it!
Froyo 2.2: Quadrant sucks + overlock is not nice for froyo, difficult to ROOT, some ROMs can't to be ROOTED, Froyo stragefright: not faster!
So I use CM or GB ROMs which works fine!
I think CM stable releases only mean the CM specific are stable, not the entire build.
Which Froyo ROM's are hard to root/can't be rooted?
Stagefright was disabled as it was giving ridiculously high quadrant scores IIRC and was subsequently determined broken. The main advantage of enabling it on Froyo was to play Gameloft games without the broken textures, probably not to improve overall speed.

The CM Nightly's are not Stable! bur I use that ROM which works much better than other stable!
in nightly (newest) only wifi and other fixes nothing really much else..?
Froyo: I hate froyo because I think that froyo is not finished version..? Many froyo ROMs have too much problems which is not nice!
All Froyo ROMs Which I used (Stock) them are so hard to ROOT! need to add missing root files and other files to get ROOT to work fine even with z4root!
in Froyo Stock ROMs the superuser not work fine!
stable and other Froyo versions: maybe them have good ROOT files so then works normally!
and froyo have too bad quadrant, many games lagging, easily slowing down, many froyo ROMs don't have good apps2sd files to get files to SD card!
if the stragefright is enabled in froyo then: quadrant is something 500-800 P on Blade!
And gingerBread: stragefright not enabled almost same points 500-800 and some can get more than 900 and with enables stragefright: quadrant points are: 900-1480..? I got some day more than 1430 P on CM nightly (with stragefright..)
So I use CM nightly when there is newer Nightly where is better files!
P.S. If I flash to newer CM nightly then Do I need to do wipe and all if the newer don't have new apps?
I don't want to download all apps and games again to my Blade... :/
SORRY IF I WROTE TOO MUCH!
I need to go school so I don't have time to check this text.. -.-
I find N161+ (unofficial nightly), find it on MoDaCo very stable, battery life is also good. You may want to give it a go. It has a proximity sensor calibration app for those who have problems with it e.g. Me and a few other people.
When you update to a newer nightly then just wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache from ClockworkMod recovery, all your data/apps will remain.

I have i9505 though. I don't think it's compatible?
Once you're rooted and running custom recovery you can multiboot it, (run multiple custom Roms) all information is in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2864469
Alucard's kernel should give you good perfomance.
Or Hulk kernel. With hulk you can overclock the up to 2.1 Ghz. But I feel like Alucard gives you better performance (when running 1.9).
As for the roms, they are all pretty much the same.
I've tried Sabermod CM12.1, Resurrection Remix, AICP 9, FlexOS.
They pretty much have the same performance (judging by the UI speed).
Haven't tried the SlimLP builds yet.
I also tend to return to the GPE rom. It's 5.0.1 though.
The reason I keep coming back to GPE is that I have pretty much no problems with it. Very stable.
In benchmarks you will get the same score on all roms. I got an average of ~32000 on all the above mentioned roms.
So, in the end it will come down to how the rom feels (fast ans smooth or slow and laggy) to the user.

Not necessary but yo can
ooer! woa there cowboy! It's new. Take your time to explore and understand how it all works then once you get that feeling that you're sure this or that could be better that's the moment when you can think about rom flashing.
I loved the phone when I got it. I then thought hey, I'll flash cyanogen on it. That worked well for a time (and they're getting better and better with each version).
I then went a while with a danvdh's excellent google edition rom (imho a very good compromise for the minimalist).
I finally came full circle back to a TW based rom (for info the Imperium v9) with which I am most happy.
Through all that I discovered that what I wanted most was an excellent camera, good video player and good battery life, all of which come included in TW roms.
The Imperium or other roms bring nice tweaks and optimisations all of which came from that famous itch that every geek has for making things that bit better.

In bechmarks both roms give the same scores. So there isn't much to say about that. CM does feel a bit faster in my opinion. But I don't know if it offers any noticeable advantage. Unless you're willing to run android 5.0 and ktoonsez kernel (which offers CPU and GPU overclock and Is only available for CM).
