Oh, and is it a new thing that it is for 1.6 devices and up?
I have my N1 for about 2 weeks..... nice to hear this! finally!
Saw it this morning, one of the good news that i heard
Meh, still nothing for Asian countries
wish they would change the voice. changing it in the settings isn't doing it for me.

No, that's always been the case.
Awesom
Works well for me
Switzerland works now tested it and everything ok.
I tried it out today and put in the address of my office on the way to work. It worked well for the most part, but as I approach my work I have to make a left turn onto the side street my office is on and instead of telling me to turn left there the nav told me to continue to the next intersection, pull a u-turn, and then make a right turn once I got back to the street my office is on... Obviously I didn't do that, but had I not been familiar route I might have had to. U-turns at traffic lights is illegal here!
I don't think it's safe to replace all of the TomTom and other dedicated devices yet.

I suspect that Google rightfully has the Sh1ts with Australia at the moment. Doubt they will be rushing to give us NAV.
Now if we could just get Google Voice in Canada, I'd be all set!
Australians ride around on kangaroos and their offspring navigate from the pouch by pointing and barking " go this way "
It's too bad Australia wasn't included in the list, but I think I remember you guys getting paid apps before Canada did if that's any consolation. Map licensing is an expensive game, so it's probably just a matter of market size.
works like a charm in Spain, but it drains battery like hell! It's a shame that traffic info is not useful in Spain because that's one of the strongest points for me.
damn our Singapore government has given Google full real time traffic info ... c'mon google.
Android pushed the google map update to me, I'm in Canada and have tried it. It rocks!

Do they have an online service with daily or at least weekly map updates that doesn't cost a fortune?
If not - why bother.
Which company offers this for Sweden?

As far as I know - no one offers what I am asking for in any market :-(
Before it is available a GPS is just not worth the price compared to a standard map for car navigation. On a boat or in the wilderness - sure, these environments don't change that often.
Navigated from northern Sweden to Barcelona with TomTom3 without ever finding a broken route. It even kept us clear from the autobahn in Germany, because you can't drive a light truck with a light trailer on it on Sundays.. Strange.. Had to re-route manually though, but it sure got us where we wanted and we were back on autobahn about 5 minutes after the ban ended.
I agree that they should offer updates, but once every quarter would be enough, I think.

I guess you still followed at least b-roads?
To follow b-roads I don't need a GPS, my old map will do just as well as long as I have my wife next to me.
It is when there is a sudden change to the route because of road works or tragic jams I need a GPS to suggest an alternative route. But with maps and traffic information older than ten to fifteen minutes this is of little help.
I think 200sek (£15) is about what one month of constantly updated maps for one country is worth for a private user. And with constant I mean at least every 15 minutes.
B-roads? Hehe, We were directed on roads the Germans themselves didn't know existed But without a doubt, they were really fast when going from one bigger road to another.
I bet you'll not find those 15 minute map updates this decade. Traffic info in one thing (which TomTom offers, although not in Sweden), but changed maps.. I think not..
Ok, you don't need to actually update the entire map every fifteen minutes. But you should at least get an update everytime there has been a change to the real world that affects the map. And it should definitely be updated with accurate speed limits.
If you don't like it don't buy it!
I personally think it's a usefull tool, I'm currently looking to relocate to a new area that I don't know and have found TomTom a fantastic aid when driving around cities you don't know looking for property.
Just put the post code in and drive from door to door
Oh and if you subscribe to the Traffic service you can get Live Traffic information delivered to your device by GPRS........ well you can in the UK anyway
UK and Holland has the traffic info only..
Accurate speed limits would be great. I don't know any program that offers this though. About the map updating, It's TeleAtlas who buys the data from local companies and sells it to the makers of GPS programs. I doubt even the local companies update very often, but I read somewhere that TeleAtlas wants users to tell them about errors in the maps so that they can update and have more accurate maps for the next release.
I think the main problem is the price model. Instead of selling cumulative updates at an affordable subscription cost, whenever ther is a new version of the map you have to buy an entirely new map! This is how it used to work in the old days, when maps had to be printed in books and put on a shelf in a shop.
And why are the maps by country or region? Give me the entire thing and let me pay for what I use! Not until I view or route through a part of the map on the device should I be charged for it.
I noticed recently that Google Maps (web version) no longer has a copyright for Tele Atlas showing on the Canadian maps. I've also noticed some increased colour/detail in the maps. Previously when scrolling around the Tele Atlas copyright notice would show up as soon as you crossed over from the US border into Canada.
I believe this is an indication that Google Navigation is going to be opening up in Canada soon because map licensing was thought to be the reason it was only available in the US (and now the UK). Turn-by-turn navigation wasn't permitted with the Tele Atlas licence. It looks like the map data for Canada is now all Google's, so it should only be a matter of time until the switch is flipped.
This is just a guess of course, so don't get mad at if you go out and buy the car dock in anticipation and then later find out I'm completely wrong...
brut maps works good with google maps.... no need to wait... dont have to root your phone or and anything its just a .apk
Brut is pretty nice, but it has issues and the voice guidance is delayed.

yer im useing the new one today and it tells me at the last second to turn is that normal... is there anyway to change it
No, that's just how it is. Guess it's a side-effect of modding the program.
I remember checking a few weeks ago when the UK navigation was released, and it was a mix of Google and TeleAtlas copyrights in Vancouver and Toronto. With only TeleAtlas in Calgary where I live as well as the less populated areas.
Now I can't find any place with TeleAtlas
Can't wait.
Hell ya! I travel to the states every other weekend and immediately sold my garmin gps when I got the N1. You can imagine my surprise and confusion when I crossed the border and I thought my new phone already **** the bed :-(

Those of us with 403 area codes have had Google Voice for a while now. Unfortunately all of Google's numbers are US based and thus long distance.
Hey,which GPS software is good for G.Tab??Beside the stock GPS provide by TAB??
I have a tab on order but haven't gotten it yet. However, I have used copilot live on my g1, original mytouch, behold 2, and on my vibrant, and it works very well. It isn't free, but you download the maps to your sd card, so the gps works whether you have a data connection Or not... even in airplane mode.

I use NavDroyd From the market. It costs about $6 USD but well worth the money. Its not as feature filled at the big name packages, but serves my purposes well. It includes global map that you can download regions partially or in full. My only complaint is that it doesn't have street address info to search on, so I plan ahead and do it in Google Maps, then set a pin to the address in NavDroyd.
Another minor annoyance is it doesn't navigate you down one way roads properly. I found out the hard way in Manhattan last week
I still love it though. It gets updated often and keeps getting better.
I beleive for asean region. . . PAPAGO X5 is the only one good to go. However the navigation seems to be a bit out for our Tab. It brings u all over the place instead of a straight road. I am wondering why becos on another Android device it works well. All settings are the same

I've tried CoPilot and Sygic Mobile Maps 10 in the UK and CoPilot wins hands down between the two. Sygic does not scale properly on the Tab and isn't designed to use the soft keys for Menu etc. CoPilot looks excellent on the large screen.
try sygic aura 2.o its work perfectly on gtab

I didn't realise Aura was now available for Android. I might take a look at that.
I got Copilot Live 8 working last night. Looks quite good but it is rather slow, at least feels slower than on N1.
Just saw that copilot live has done special pricing for thanksgiving... north american version is 9.99, and the usa only version is just 2.99(i paid 29.99 for my copy of the NA maps 2 years ago)... I went ahead and bought the usa version last night even though I already have the north america version for my vibrant so that I can run one on my tab when I get it, and still be able to use the other on my vibrant... I've been happy with it on all of my android phones so far, I hope it runs as nicely on the tab...

I've been using Navigon in the US and it works very well on the tab
Now that you guys mentioned GPS programs for the tab, i will be going to the states for a month and a half ( yes really good vacations ), and since i am based on greece, i want a gps program that i can pre-cache maps on it without using my data plan since we all know that roaming charges are over the roof.
So i was watching closely at Google Maps that a user called Brut, modified and it supposedly run pre-cached maps on all zoom levels 0-14 from andnav and you can even download the tiles and put them on the sdcard and have them.
Well i dont really wanna bother the dudes at his thread because its somehow 300+ pages, and i wanna ask if someone else used it because i am gonna try it and see if it works.
Any help is appreciated.

Strange thing happened to me.
I just got a german SGT and D/L latest firmware (via kies - XXJK5)
I installed a Navigon .apk that I found somewhere and it automatically D/L'd and installed all the maps for Australia and NZ for free. Nice app as well.

It is only available via play store. If amazon uk has it, so does ours. The only restriction is the god damn play store and I am sure it is some retarded law interfering with the release.
Seriously consider buying it via http://www.borderlinx.com/, did the same with my Touchpad. Proxy and BL -> N7 is mine! But not yet decided.

Problem is google checkout only takes credit cards from the country you're ordering, so if you are ordering via borderlinx to USA or UK you would need a american credit card or a UK one... Which is the problem right now.

but i want it on the first day ;-)
perhaps we find a way and can make a german xda bulk order
Well they want to regulate which country gets it.
The biggest reason with the Nexus 7 probably is the limitation of Play store functionality in most countries. It's limited to only apps in almost every country in the world except USA, Canada and UK.
They announced it pretty heavy about how it is the ULTIMATE Google Play device, so releasing it without full functionality might heart advertising and credibility of future devices. Even though many nerds here (including me) would want it anyway the majority would want all the functions people have in the US.

i opened a thread where i want to collect all buying advices
I´m austrian and i´m also trying to figure out which is the best way to get it.
Fighting with some Webproxies didn´t get me very far.
I guess it´s not very likely that amazon will sell it in the near future (it´s clearly the main competitor of the kindle fire.).
So please post it if you found a good way to get the tablet to central europe.

hey even I am waiting for the update it is really strange why Samsung keeps doing this there is not much difference apart for changing the wireless services
I would have expected the 3G one to be harder to push updates through because it's through wireless services.. :/
No its the same you push it through Wifi or 3G there is no difference it connects to update server and downloads the data does
Someone care to post the build date. I know from the K that its newer then J9 firmware but its still nice to know.

When is Samsung going to realize that no one living outside the USA is a real person?
Well I think the largest base of Note for Samsung is outside US so they very well know what they are doing

You know - if I honestly thought you were being serious - I'd write a nice long explanation as to why a lot of companies just prefer to pretend the US doesn't exist.
For one thing: Americans tend to be 'trend' buyers. So they buy Apple products WAY out of proportion relative to the world. Macs, for example, are about 6.8% of the world market, but are over 15% of the US market. Stores like Best Buy carry Samsung (heck, they even have Samsung mini-stores in many outlets), but if you actually try to buy accessories for Samsung prods - you're screwed. Now, you want an iPhone case? No problem, two entire racks of those babies.
So, if you're Samsung - who do you invest in? The US, which is a large but almost antagonistic market - or *the rest of the world* who actually likes your products?
Meanwhile, up here in Canada, we get the worst of both worlds because we're too small a population, and too closely associated to the US.
Then again, the first Samsung permanent retail outlet in North America is here - in Vancouver - so I guess this is Samsung's way of saying 'Canada - we know you're not the US... " (Ok ok.. it's really because Samsung sells a much smaller range of products in Canada, so that makes us a good 'test case' to try out a retail store in NA)...
Personally, I'd rather have the ROM update.
Actually, is the same in Europe. You can get a lot of accessories for an icrap and close to nothing for most other brands. I guess the sellers have a bigger cut from the huge prices of apple products, and they are also counting on trends.
