I need help deleting some broken/missing icons.
For example, I removed the games and Transformers movies that came pre-installed on my memory card, but the icons are still there. I tried to delete them in file explorer but the phone will not allow me to do so.
Anyway to do this?
Thanks
Did you go to the window/startmenu folder and delete them from there. It should allow you to delete them from that folder in your windows folder. If you dont mind me asking why would you delete those things anyway?!

How can i remove the junk files installed in my /windows directory? i saw many but i dont know if it is important. is there any programs that deletes any unusefull files or junk files? Thanks
your windows dir is filled with the files that windows contain
most are located in rom and can never be deleted
Some files like when i install a software and uninstall it some files will not be deleted. (ie. Help files, images, .txt etc)
got some exampes ?
i know that sometimes shortcuts are not removed from programs
and it's temp dir is also likely to get some temp files once in awhile
but i havent had issues with alot of space being lost to files not being removed
suppose you could always make a backup using activesync and then try
to remove stuff and softreset if it cause issues with programs or windows stuff then do a hardreset and restore your backup
maybe i was wrong. maybe the files that i saw is important and not a junk files. Thank You anyway.
There are utility programs like SpaceMaker and MemMaid which will do housekeeping for you. They delete the "junk" files from your device.

Here's what happened...
There was an icon inside my games folder that didnt do anything. Clicking it just gave me an error (forgot the error already). I took the risk and deleted the icon. After a reset, my Games folder was showing up as an ordinary folder (no card icon below it).
Can anyone copy their Games folder and attach to this post??? Or maybe just give me the solution...
~ishtangli
maybe that's a glitch in the system files... why don't you just hard reset your phone? back up your contacts and calendar of course..
Attached is the file you have deleted. This file is the icon for the Games folder (it's actually a shortcut file). You can customize the icon of any folder by creating a file named "icon.lnk" with a content similar below:
1#ceshell.dll,-162
Using a 3rd party File Explorer (e.g. Resco), you will be able to see this file. Using the defaul File Explorer, you will only be able to see this file when you turn on "View All Files" option (tap and hold on any open area of the default File Explorer and this option will be shown on the context menu).
In my experience, this icon appears inside the Games folder when I go through Start -> Programs -> Games when the "View All Files" option is turned on. Try turning it off and this icon file disappears.
Have fun,
YajP
Marc,
It would take too long to restore all my applications and settings if i Hard Reset.
File didnt work. Placed it inside the Games folder and reset my device. Have you had experience restoring any of these icon files?
~ishtangli
Nope, didn't have such problem. I also deleted that icon.lnk in the Games folder before thinking that it was installed wrongfully by some of the 3rd party apps... to my surprise, the Games folder was reduced to an ordinary folder icon when I go to the Programs menu. So what I did was got that file from one of my colleagues, copied it to my device and tried to solve the issue of hiding that icon file. Below are the current screen shots from my pocket pc... hope it helps...
ishtangli, my ROM is still the stock one: 1.66 WWE... so am not sure if the functionality was changed in other ROM upgrades (1.72, WM2003SE) =)
that's a very possible suggestion! i think the functionality wouldnt change in other rom versions.. i'd say go with the RESCO solution
Maybe some kind soul could post their entire games folder...
~ishtangli
Here it is...
still didnt work. hmmm.... seems kinda simple but it just wont work. WM2003SE thing?!?! Whatever it is, im not hard resetting my device just to get some damn icon back. Thanks guys! If you find any solution, post it here aite...

Games Icon
Try this.
Download, unzip and copy the icon.lnk file within to the /Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Games folder.
It is a shortcut to target the shell *.dll file that contains the icon that is displayed for the games folder: shellres.dll,-8229
So that must be the difference, the link to the icon file...
from
1#ceshell.dll,-162 (ROM1.66)
to
shellres.dll,-8229 (WM2003SE)...
Yeah

Hi,just setting up my M700 and need to transfer my themes over.Usually do this by just restoring from sprite backup. However this time I did a complete clean install. Problem is I cant find the normally present themes folder so as for them to appear in the today menu. Usually its in the windows folder but I cant find it.Where can I put them oe where is it located (the're a lot of them in a folder I created called themes) so as to be visable to the device ie usable/selectable as today backscreens? Thanx all.
The .tsk files should be stored in \windows
When you say that you can't see it, do you mean that you can't see \windows in the explorer on your PC when the phone is connected via ActiveSync?
If this is the case, then it might be due to the fact that the \windows folder is hidden and the explorer on your PC is not showing hidden files and folders.
Try also in My Documents.
Thanx for the reply, unfortunately didnt work
@Its : I can see the windows folder in both my trinity and pc
@MacGuy2006 : Have looked in my documents to no avail
Perhaps another way of posing the question would be how or where do I put additional themes so i can use them. I would rather not have them just put in like that in the windows or whatever folder as I'd like to keep them tidy and organised in their own sub-folder called themes. That way I can edit/remove/add them easily. What pathway or tweak if possible could I use to run them off the storage card to save on space?
Thanx again.

You can put the tsk files in the ROOT directory "/" of your miniSD card and WM5 will find them. I do this to save storage on my phone.

ok thanx matterhorn. May have to do that as its proving a pain.Just that I have more than enough space on the trinity itself.just cant get them to be seen
I download the zipped up tsk file to the storage card.
When I upzip it (by double clicking on the new icon shown in my storage card it gives the options of where you want to send it). I send it to the "my dococuments" on my phone. Then when you go into "settings", then "today" screen you'll have a choice of all your new tsk files added to the original ones.
Hi guys, i want to ask how can i delete files in phone memory from already removed applications???I mean when i remove some apps i can see that some folders are not removed, they remain in phone memory. When i search for them in file explorer i can't find them. Please help!!Thanks.
Try using Total Commander to delete the unwanted folders and files.
Thanks man i will try it.
Hi just got my X10 last week, a huge leap for me who owned an X1. I had read from another forum that someone suggested to modify the audio folder in the SD card and make directories into
SD card>audio>ringtones
SD card>audio>alarms
SD card>audio>notifications
This way my customized ringtones show up together with the list of the default tones, but they tones also show up in the mediascape. Is there a workaround to hide them away?
Thanks
Unfortunately I don't think that there is a workaround. I have a game that installed, in its own folder in the SD card, some audio files, and Mediascape show this files, too. Other media players on the market allow to select the path of the audio files on the SD card, Mediascape don't.
There is an UNSAFE workaround:
if there is a file with the name ".nomedia" in the specific directory, that path is not treated as media.
you cannot create the .nomedia files from pc, so you need another solution
(create an empty file and rename it with a file explorer or use a shell, change to the directory and type: "touch .nomedia" to create the file)
Maybe it is a problem that android hides ALL media file in the directory (others reported that hiding cover arts pictures also made the music disappear)
Please tell us if it worked...
Bax
EDIT: CAUTION!!!!!!
Just saw that there are problems with the Android Media Scanner deleting files that existed in directories before the .nomedia file was created (bug) http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3692

I added .nomedia file with Astro to the game folder (/sdcard/gameloft/games/asphalt5), then I unmounted the SD card and rebooted the device. However, all the .ogg files in that folder are still present in Mediascape. Somethiong is wrong or we need to force somehow the media scanner to refresh?
Edit: after some minutes the files disappeared. Apparently the media scanner needs some time do do a full refresh. No files have been deleted in the folder, but there were no JPEG files. I'll try also in the /sdcard/audio folder.
Coincidentally I had bought the same game lornova!
Thanks Baxxx for mentioning that work around! Did the same thing as Lornova and it seems to do the trick. I moved the file into the dir before Mediascape had a chance to pick up the files however.

Nice game! But I'm using it more to demo my phone than to actually playing! However, I play a lot to reversi
I don't know what i did to accomplish this but when I backed up my Sd card files, factory reset phone then replace all folders (only the folders in the root everything exe., txt. I left only) I no longer see it in my mediascape. Must be a list setting somewhere?
hi, I also have the same problem and I've tried the solution above, but it didn't work. I just took a silly game and renamed it to touch.nomedia. I've also rebooted, but I'm still staring at about 160 ogg files Did I do something wrong here??
.nomedia
I had the same "problem"
Open Notepad on your computer > Leave "blank" > File > Save as > File name: .nomedia > Save as type: All files.
Saved file (.nomedia) insert in the appropriate folder on the sd card. Turn off and turn on the phone.
