None of the new 2.1 roms has a working keyboard - Hero, G2 Touch General

I know this is not only happening to me.. But why is it that it is working for some ppl and others it dosnt?
I have tried serveral roms now and they all have the same problem.. No keyboard!
I have installed recovery image v. 1.5.2 .. After that i have copied the rom to the root of my sd.. i have then wiped: Data, Dalvik, SD:EXT, battery, rotation.. However at Dalvik and SD:EXT it gives me the error "Error: Run 'wipe dalvik' via adb!" and "Error: Run 'wipe ext' via adb!" .. Is it because of this and why is this happening?
I have then tried to continue however and flashed the newest radio from the thread and after that i rebooted and flashed the rom .. no errors here.. after rom flash i wiped everything again, but still got the errors at dalvik and sd:ext..

did you previously have davlik to SD. it certainly sounds like that may causing a problem.
do you have another SD card you could try...just to try it out? or format your card using the recovery menu, then copy the ROM.zip back over and apply.
I certainly have no problems with Keyboards.
I've never moved davlik to SD, only Apps.
Good Luck!

Try the rom on the Htcpedia forum, its the clean official update, but with a2sd and overclock which is optional, everything works fine for me

In other words.. i do not even know what davlik is, so i guess i haven't done anything to it as i do not know what it does or is..

Well i have tried that one.. Actually the first one i tried.. But it dosnt work in that rom either.. Don't know i must be missing something since you guys dosn't have any problems

I was having this same issue this morning,.. No matter which ROM I flashed the keyboard just didn't want to come up,....
This may be caused by skipping the touch input demo on 1st boot, I never usually bother with it, however,... Just flashed another ROM again, went through the demo, all working fine again!!!

The sequence has to be correct ! I had the same issue with VillainROM 10.
Found out, that the keyboard apk was placed in /data. Means,
if you first flash the ROM and THEN wipe, your keyboard has gone.
Correct sequence:
1. Wipe
2. Flash
3. Reboot

Tips on fixing my glitches?

I'm very new to android in general (Just got my Hero yesterday), and I rooted and flashed the Fresh ROM to it...I don't know if I did something wrong, or if the ROM is just glitchy, but certain things just don't work correctly...apps tend to close themselves on occasion, and if I try to open the "Manage Applications" it pops up a box saying it ended unexpectedly and makes me force close it.
In a sad twist of fate, I formatted the SD card thinking there was nothing on it, not remembering that that's where my Nandroid backup was...
Is there a way I can reflash the original ROM on there? I don't want to lose root, but I don't like the crashing-ness. Or is there a better ROM out there?
You sure can.

If you decide to root and flash Fresh again I'd recommend using Fresh Kitchen.

Just flash Damagecontrols latest ROM 2.06 it is the most stable ROM at this time.
So when I'm flashing a new ROM, what are the steps to do that properly? Boot to recovery, wipe, flash?

2nd running the DC rom. The fresh rom comes from one with a questionable character. Since you already formated your SD card create a ext partition to use app2sd. Wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik and wipe SD:ext partition. Go to USB-MS toggle and put DC 2.06 on. Flash zip from sd. Enjoy.

Full wipe, new Rom, old settings and apps

Hello guys.
I would really appreciate an answer to a question I have.
I installed leedroid 3.0.2 and I have the same apps and settings as before.
I think I haven't done a good wipe..
I rebooted to recovery from cwm and used the wipe before I installed the new Rom. (i was using the revolution 3.5 before)
After I installed the new Rom, when I booted on, all apps and settings were there.
Shouldn't the wipe thing clean everything and leave the phone "empty"?
Or, (most obvious) did I do something wrong and should do it again? Cause there is a little thing with the market that closes the process when I click on new released apps.
Thank you in advance guys.
Cheers !!!

Are you wiping data and cache in recovery?
"wipe data/factory reset"
It will then say:
Code:
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /sd-ext...
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure...
Data wipe complete.
Then:
"wipe cache partition"
It will say:
Code:
-- Wiping cache...
Formatting /cache...
Cache wipe complete
(second option is overkill)
Have you still got the setting to backup to Google servers ticked? Or any other app that you have backed things up with?
Whilst the last option wouldn't be instant (they would download again and take a good 5 minutes to appear).
And yes, you will probably experience issues if this is due to a missed wipe.
So, I will need to do a factory reset first, then do a cache wipe and then install the Rom?
(i don't remember doing all these for the revo Rom..)
Do I need to do these without rebooting the phone until everything is done?
Cheers !!!

Yes, you should always do the "wipe data/factory reset" before installing any new ROMs or if the dev has advised it, also between major update revisions.
You don't need to reboot. If using recovery to install the ROM just do the wipes then flash the ROM using menu.
Awesome. Thanks for the help.
Will try it now and I hope everything goes well. Hope I won't get stuck since am not in front of my pc.

Well, I did it again. Everything wiped out, started as new.
But still, new apps in market and battery history in spare parts give me a process termination...
Oh well, I guess that Lee will release an update.
Oh, something else I would like to ask. There is a new kernel for the Rom. Do I flash it the same way I flash everything? Through recovery?
Thanks again guys
Cheers !!!

I use Leedroid and don't have this problem. Today I have installed from scratch and gone back and forth between ROM's. i turned off all the processes that backup and restore apps and I get a blank fresh install.
I have to ask, the last time you installed Leedroid, did you use the downloaded one or a copy from your sdcard? is it possible you are restoring a copy rather than flashing a fresh copy?
And you don't have any apps that have backed up your apps such as Titanium? And you have turned off Google Backup and restore feature?
The thing is, it is handy not to lose data but we need to make sure your wipe is being done. Did you see the same messages in Recovery as I showed above?
gosh, it is sooooooooooooo weird...
i did it all again. factory reset, delete cache, installed the 3.0.3 version (which was released today).
everything seemed to go smooth. still, i went to market and clicking on the newly released apps list i get an error which is "com.android.vewnding" has been shut blah blah blah. and the same happens to spare parts. when i click battery history ""com.android.spare_parts" shuts down.
do you guys think it has to do with the kernel? should i flash lee's kernel (i couldn't find how to. i mean, shall i do it from the cwm recovery?)
i guess that the radio has nothing to do with all these, does it?...
thank you guys once again for your help
Cheers !!!

You have tried fix permissions in ROM Manager, yes?
eeeeeeeeeerm.... you got me. that is something i totally forgot to do :-(((
gosh.. i flashed the radio, sweet. tried to flash a kernel using jkoljo's tool and it stayed on the white screen (and of course cold sweat was all over the place )
but i flashed the rom again after clearing cache and the likes and (thank god) i'm in.
but the most weird thing is that, after all these, the kernel is flashed :-S
i checked in the phone info and the kernel is there..
anyway, am gonna do the fix permissions thingy and reflash once more. if it stays the same way, i'll have to live with it. it's late here in greece.
thanks again for your help guys, i really appreciate it )))
Cheers !!!
i did it all again but nothing happened.
did the permissions, rebooted to recovery, factory reset, cache wipe, install new rom and nothing.
i have to tell you guys though.. the problem with the market started when i was on the revolution rom. and it started just like that. one day everything was fine, next, bam. it didn't budge.
do you think there might be something wrong with the phone itself? (probably not and i'm paranoid)
other than that, everything works nice.
oh, and some other thing. there is this "full wipe 1.3" zip i had put in my SD card but never really used it.
should i use it this time?
this app should clean everything in the cache but not my files, right?
Cheers !!!
YouTube clip of how to manually full wipe everything.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCwr6Ru0yko
When using this method I've never had a problem.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
I did the wipe as shown in the video. The problem remains the same. New market apps list gives an error followed by a restart of it and spare parts battery history does the same (without the restart though)
I don't know, I'm thinking of trying a different Rom even though I like the one Lee released.
(could all this mean that I have a problem with the phone?.......)
Anyway, thank you guys for spending time helping me.
Cheers !!!

After Flashing New Rom, Settings are preset and apps already installed??

i started noticing that after i flashed a new rom, alot of my settings are set to the way i had them before. and some apps are already installed that would otherwise need a marketplace install..
keep in mind, i always do a wipe of cache/dalvik/sdcard
i think it started happening after i partitioned the sd card for those old sense roms that needed extra space.. cant remember..
but it seems like theres a portion of rom that isnt being wiped and all my settings are being carried over to the next rom flash..
how can i fully wipe my phone or get it back to normal?
this is weird, and i want it to stop. any ideas?
i just flashed back to amonra

Are you using ROMs that have Google back up enabled?
Also, if the zip isn't set to wipe /data and you're not wiping it then you'll still have all of your data.
That has happened to me too. Are you wiping sdext and android.secure in recovery. I always wipe those and haven't had that happen since I started doing that.
We're comin from a pure power source.
naw i turn off all that google backup stuff.
thats the thing, when i try to wipe sdext it gives me an error (from the last i remember doing it)
Hmmm. Latest version of amon ra?

You should be wiping data as well when flashing new roms.
I flash vrsuperwipe everytime I flash, but I use Google backup, so when I flash a new sense ROM it saves a lot of my settings, and my SD-ext apps automatically appear. Good feature imo.

still wondering about other options before testing some new roms
same thing happened to me so I tried repairing sdext and then re-partitioned my card and left it ext2 instead of ext3,wipe data/cache/dalvik cache/system flash superwipe, then flashed rom. don't know which one worked but it stopped. Also I noticed it mainly happens when I flash 3.0 roms but it has happened on CM7 to

You did not wipe data. If you do this you will preserve all of you apps (if they were not on card), data and system settings. This may work for you if the new ROM that you are moving to is similar enough. It can cause big problems if the structure of the ROMs is too different. You can end up with a phone that lags and has wakelocks (at best) or is not functional at all due force closes all over the place.
You should really wipe data as well before flashing a ROM and then do a selective restore of data on the new ROM.

[Q] A2SD problems.

Here is a story about me and my phone:
I'm using this rom for about 2-3 months and it's great!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817793
But when I was updating some apps with the Play Store I got error 492.
Googled it and I found a thread on XDA and it said that I had to clear some caches.
So I did that and a Dalvik Cache wipe and I fixed permissions.
But it ended in an endless boot. So wiped everything and I did as an extra a Task 29. I flashed my rom installed INT2EXT+. The first boot after I flashed INT2EXT+ something weird happened: The WiFi just didn't turn on. I just turned it on but the slider bounced back after 5 seconds. Reflashed still that problem. So here comes the question how can I fix it?
Wi-Fi issues are sometimes connected to too small system partition. Perhaps caused by bad blocks. Make sure your system partition is bigger than needed. I usually add 10/15 mb above what the rom requires

Did what you said but when I let it start up I just see just a FC of Settings that's it. :crying::crying:
I rebooted it several times en every time it boots up I see ''Android is Upgrading''.
did you do a 'wipe data' because although the partitioning will clear out all teh nand, there may be stuff on the sd-ext/fat that are left over. a wipe data / factory reset clears those out too.

Yes, it's called A2SD you will have to flash something trough CWM and partition sd card. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124

That's because int2ex need its own script for wiping dalvik, using the one provided with CWM will cause bootloops: both of you can find the right one on the first post of croniccorey's thread. Just search for "Dalvik-Cache Wipe Tool" then make it run from install zip from sdcard entry.

If you have int2ex installed then download and run that zip because if you use normal CWM wipe-cache-dalvik, you'll get a bootloop. this may help you?

[Q] CROMi 4.2.1 Install Issues

Got a question here on installing CROMi 4.2.1, love the ROM when I get it working, my problem is, whenever a new version is out and I try to install I run into all kinds of issues. I'll try to outline the exact problems I'm having here. It goes something like this, I will download new ROM, throw it onto SD card, then boot into recovery and attempt to install. Now if I try to install without clearing any caches/data etc. it will say it installs, but then it won't boot into the ROM at all, just sticks at ASUS screen. So I go through and clear everything, internal, system, dalvik cache etc. Then I try to install again, usually it will fail at least 5-6 times, sometimes it just won't do it at all, so I'll reboot, go into recovery again and try it, still no go. Then I'll use a different SD card, still won't work right, then I'll clear everything again and go for another try and after 3 or 4 or more failed times it will finally install and boot. So I'm curious if there's just something obvious and dumb that I'm missing here, or if it's just a normal issue with this and something that will always be there? It just doesn't make sense to me that it would fail so many times and just work for no apparent reason? Any pointers would be much appreciated!
I assume your using twrp 2.4.4.0-4.2 as your installing CROMi for 4.2.1 and on the 4.2.1 bootloader (10.6.1.8)?
If so not sure this is the issue but I have had & read of other's having issues with some micro sd cards using twrp 2.4.4.0-4.2
You could try in twrp doing a full wipe (cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, system, internal storage) then in twrp file manager copy the CROMi rom zip from your micro sd to your internal storage and install the rom from there and see if that works without issue.

Yep those are the versions I'm working with! Didn't realize there were sd card issues, thanks for the info. One last question, where should I copy the ROM to on the internal storage? Don't want to accidentally copy to a place that's gonna get wiped during install.
Sounds like you have something corrupted.
I'd do a full wipe of internal storage (making sure you have all your backups on external storage), flash the rom and see if that helps.
Also if your ext card is causing issues try booting without it in after the first flash.....

The famous sbdags himself responds! Just wanted to take the opportunity to tell you that your ROM is incredible, puts the Transformer on par with, or better than the iPad. Installed RC2 this morning and it is running great! Thanks for all the great work. When I was having those install issues I would do a full wipe of internal, system, and all caches, but installs would still fail extremely often. The strange thing is, that after a few wipes, and numerous times trying to install, it would finally work and boot and everything would work fine. I'm thinking it has something to do with how the SD card interacts with the recovery system but maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. All that I know is that I downloaded on my tab this morning, and ran the install from the internal storage, and bam, flawless install the first time around. So I'm going to give some kudos to pjc21 because I think it was just an issue with the SD card interfacing with recovery.
