Sprint Tv-ESPN Mobile Tv-World Cup Coverage - EVO 4G General

I just want to remind everyone with an evo that they have no reason to not support America in there world cup bid because now with Sprint Tv and Espn Mobile you can catch coverage on the go, and it streams pretty nicely on 4g.

Sprint TV was always horrible, at least with my vogue. plus, click on the wrong thing and sprint will add a 9$ charge to your bill. First app I will delete when I get comfortable with rooting this beast, then the rest of the sprint bloatware crap.
American football > soccer imo.

Chandler
I look forward to catching all of the games and might watch some while at work on my phone

I watched MMA live the other day and loved it. Only problem is that I do not get good service in my office and it will not work with Wifi.

I'm from Nigeria so I ain't supporting any other country . Anyway, I plan on following the games via tvcatchup.com. Wonder if it works on Android...

Sprint Tv on EVO with 4g goin isnt bad at all, its actually quite clear, and the espn mobile channel is free and the ui isnt that bad to where your gonna click on something and accidently subscribe. I do prefer american football over soccer but its hard not to like any sport imho. Especially world events. beside, i didnt know the NFL was goin on friday or Saturday, Whos playing????

They need to fix the syncing issues and I hope they do before the World Cup starts. They also need to bump up the resolution of the video so it matches our screens. The images just look horrible. It's a shame we're getting the same feed as a feature phone.

Samsung Epic demo model

I talked to my local sprint store representative about when they are going to have a Samsung Epic demonstration model available. After some digging he found that they are having a pair of Epics shipped to them by the 26th and will have them up for demonstration by the 27th of August.
I just thought I would share this with anyone who is interested in the phone, but wants a hands on with it. I am not sure if other areas will be putting up the phone for demo the same day, but this is what i was told in the sacramento area.
If your in NYC, go to the AOL Time Warner center on the 3rd floor. They have the Samsung Experience exhibition where all the latest Samsung products are demonstrated. You can have full access to everything in the "store". There are no sales representatives and thus absolutely no sales pressure. Its like going to a convention center, except its right in the city. There are people who can answer questions about the devices.
I'm sure the Epic 4G as well as the other Galaxy S devices will be demonstrated/featured in that place. Its a really nice place to go to just hang out as they have fun contests and giveaways from time to time. Sometimes even live bands go their and perform. Really cool.

Thanks for this info, I'm right up the block from them. I checked there site online and they have the Captivate and the Vibrant, but no Epic yet. The only sprint phone they have is the Moment, lol. Hopefully they'll have it early next week so I can stop by and play with it.
cool, im in sac too, i guess ill be hitting up the sprint store and checking out the epic. Only thing that sucks is i dont get my upgrade til oct 1st, ima try and ask the employees if i can upgrade early not sure if it will work though.
Very cool. I'm definitely interested but would like to see it first before I shell out the money. I'll have to call my local store

Which sprint store had a display model to play with?
I don't think I honestly care enough to drive to a Sprint store just to play with it for a minute. Its less than 3 days away now.
I am a sprint store rep and the advocate for my stores epic and I can confirm no display models till close of biz on the 30th available to the public on the 31st

They are, they're just not allowed to say. Cognitive is right though, we're putting out the demo models Monday night, after hours.
I apologize everyone, i realize that the demo models were not put out on the 27th, the sprint rep i spoke was misinformed and once he found out that they were going to get the Epic on the 26th he assumed they would set it up on the 27th. This was not the case, as i found out yesterday when i went to the store. Luckily, when i went in the sprint store manager was playing with one and said he wasn't supposed to show me the phone, but since i seemed enthusiastic he would anyway. I only toyed with it for about 5 minutes, but a few things i noticed were...
1) the keyboard is very comfortable and easy to type on, and in my opinion is about as good as the touch pro 2 in usability
2)the screen dwarfs in comparison to the evos
3)touchwiz is very smooth and had no lag in my use
4)the still pictures look fantastic as does the video recording
5)build quality and sturdiness seemed inferior to the evo, but then again the evo has no moving parts like the keyboard and we all know about the supposed glass separation, so idk
Anyway i know a lot of this has been covered, but these were just major things that i noticed.
On a final note, as much as i told the sprint manager i was interested in buying the Epic, he was very keen on trying to sell me the Evo right then and there. I wonder why?

Between the two, which one felt ergonomically better in your hand?
Epic is on limited release. Demos will be few and far in between. However, my Radioshack has had an Epic in stock since mid August hahaha

I found the epic to be more comfortable in my hand, however this is not to say the evo was uncomfortable, just that i prefer the epic.
My only problem with the Epic's keyboard is muscle memory. Coming from a TP2, the shift button is above the FN button. On the Epic the FN button is above the shift button.
Over the course of a few days, it's resulted in more than a few odd typos.
Given time I'll get used to it. Otherwise initial impressions of the keyboard are good.

That army of one video game was the ****! Well, as far as learning how to shoot and maintain your rifle goes. LOL...I used to fail at shooting just so I could sit in a nice warm room playing video games while everyone else was freezing and laying in the mud.
When I joined...they offered me a backpack and a track suit. Both of which I never received.
Through in a free case for that iPhone and you got a deal! Ya know ill need reception to call for back up. I can't wait to have those touching moments with the front cam like they do in the commercials.
So yeah, they will give you a free phone, but they are going to charge you for all your clothes and gear. That stuff is way more expensive than a phone. Back in the day, the gear was all free.
When I was at Fort Lost in the Woods I didn't get jack crap. I had a good time granted the learning of US weapons and explosives, and night training, and MRE's, and well physical fitness. But not a damn phone cheap bastards. I guess before the Bush admin we got a half-million dollar life insurance policy upgrade. So I always have that....

Anyways, giving your life away saving someone elses country will never be worth an iphone, evo, or a million dollars in my opinion. Too much worrying about what goes on in the world and not enough fixing our own country talked me out of a 50 thousand dollar sign on bonus for a 6 year enlistment. It just isnt worth dying over religious belief conflicts.

Here's something, ermm, interesting.

Saw this as a comment on an androidcentral post about the within:
Listen up and listen good cuz I don't lie or play when it comes to this stuff... Sprint Is kicking but this year and will continue that but kicking like none of you can imagine. I am a sprint employee work at the West Hollywood Store in CA. It's the flagship store for the west coast Dan Hesse frequents our store device's come through our store sometimes up to 5 months before a rumor about it hits the internet. This is a HUGE year for sprint if you understand business in the least bit you know corporate change takes time. If you can't see the changes sprint has made and continue to make for the better than your just blind or don know what to look for. I know some of you may call me bias and your right I am. But only to one thing and that's customer experience. I love that SPRINT by maintaining is price plans is forcing AT& T and T-Mob todo stuff like the 70 dollar unlimited data even if it is capped. Yes thee above pic is the GS2 i've held it. YES it will be 4G yes we are getting a keyboard version as well as the standard GS2. Yes that phone will also be 4G and dual core not single core. The its not for certain it will be the epic2 or called epic at all. Yes the GS2 is a vicious competitor for the Evo 3D from personal experience I still think the Evo 3D is better. I prefer sense over touch anything I trust htc more than samsungs when it comes to mobile anything and the internal update system htc uses not having to wait for sprint like the last two patches they did for the 3d speaks volumes. Add htcsense.com to that and better build quality and you begin to edge out the competition. Admittedly not by much with the GS2 but still its an edge. As far as the YouTube comparisons of the GS2 to the Sensation to gauge it again the 3D, don't make me laugh the 3D itself makes the sensation look the same way. In no way am I denying the amazingness that is the GS2 I just PREFER htc that's all. Last but not least the GS2 is really really fast it was a tad and I do mean a TAD faster than my 3D but..... My Evo is jam packed 6 email accounts syncing about 80 apps 7 custom scenes setup the whole 9 and the GS2 was but naked not even signed into a gmail account. I say that today this when you watch these comparison vids take into account what may or may not be on the devices in question in terms of data info etc... Once you get these devices in hand your speed milage Will vary depending on how much you throw at your device. It's a good time to be with sprint I'm not even going to get into the improvements happening to the network ill save that for another post. And oh yeah in case you were skeptical on the matter we are absolutely getting the iphone so tell all your apple juice drinking buddies that VZ and AT&T's are numbered it'll be here before you know it. The real question is will it be 4G and honestly even I don't have that answer................ Yet. PS if your in the LA area and you want to switch to sprint I can give you 125 dollar port in credit... Yes we pay YOU 125.00 bucks to KEEP your number give me a shout PM me. Duece

I trust nothing of what that guy wrote. Everytime someone claims to have advanced knowledge they are wrong completely. Why the eff would sprint bring rumored phones around a retail store before they are even announced? That just makes no sense. I have dealt with enough sprint employees who "have the scoop" and turn out to be collosal nitwits before to believe that some random sprint store employee got the scoop on sprint getting the iphone.
I do think he is a sprint employee though because every sprint employee I have ever dealt with is a huge fanboy of the evo.

I haven't heard the details he has shared, but my corp rep brought the regional network rep out who knows all the tech updates and all the phone releases. He said the biggest thing sprint has in the pipe is the network updates. Everyone is getting phones, they are rolling out new tower hardware making speeds, signal quality and increase the number of clients able to hit the servers. He told me it would be a 2 year rollout, but we had 36 tower updates last month. He said there are about 40 new devices rolling out and they would rock!

I work for a regional electronics and appliance chain, that is becoming a full device sprint dealer this fall. At a training event for sales reps the sprint trainer brought up an iphone 5 variant for sprint a few times. Interesting to hear it from this guy as well. Although if I had to guess, they are both misreading it, and all we are likely to see is the new prepaid iphone version coming out for virgin.

I hate when people say the EVO 3d is a better phone than SG2 even though across the board SG2 eats 3d. Granted htc sense 3.0 is sexy, but MIUI is better
Sprint's overall phone lineup is strong with or without the iPhone. It has been for a while. The issues are that they have to quickly maintain and improve their network and hold prices and plans to the attractive level they are now. I don't believe in corporate hype, I believe in underpromising and overdelivering. Sprint did that in the years I've been with them.
Now they have to continue so they can grow and poach away customers who get sick of being robbed by Verizon and AT&T. But without the network that's going to be even harder to do. Take my neighborhood for example--coverage here is poor, Sprint probably has no customers other than people like me who figured out how to force roam, or those who have Airaves. And it's doubtful any new towers are planned, so they better get busy on these network improvement miracles, because reasonably priced unlimited 4G makes no difference to those who can't get it.

GOODBYE!!!! <Tears>

Wow.. it's actually true.. I am going to get sad..
Unlike a forum for a certain car, like My old Mustang or M3, I know this will be a forever goodbye as I will never get another EVO..
I'm leaving..
After enough BS with Sprint, the promises of 4G, I'm done..
T-mobile, which is lightning fast for my area (down load speeds of 9-12 are not un common)
is having a sale this weekend.. Free phones.. any of them..
i'm getting the GSII
and pretty excited.
But I realized.. For over a year I've been modding and theming, roming, kerneling and radioing with you guys..
Now, its over..
It sucks because there is almost no development for the GSII on T-mobile..
I was gonna wait for the Nexus that Sprint said was going to come this month, now they say mid 2012..
Plus, ZERO LTE.. I don't trust them..
Either way.. I'm out..
thanks for all the help and to dev's you guys are awesome..
P.S. selling my EVO for 50 bucks..
Good luck and totally understand why you're doing this. What I find truly sad is that an awesome phone like the Evo sells for $50, yet an outdated POS like iPhone 3G still sells for $200+ on craigslist.

yeah its crazy what sprint's doing (nothing). I moved to a new town, a few towns over from where I was living, and last year it was great, the data speeds. A few months ago, garbage. Still, garbage. I've been with sprint for 12 years...and i'm considering moving to another carrier. Not ALL the TMobile phones are free. The G SII is 229.00, according to their website
Totally understand the need for speed. Here in eastern NC, we're never gonna get 4G of any kind, so I'll stick with Sprint, as their service in this area is second to none and their prices are outstanding.

Then go look at their site, they show a video of where LTE will be installed.. not even in my state..
I got this phone today.. Its sexy as hell.. My download speeds which I've done about 30 now, lol, vary from 22 down 5 up to the lowest of , 6 down 1.5 up..

NetworkVision is going to make some huge improvements in 99% of places guys. Leaving sprint now is like leaving at the absolute worst of times and you'll miss out on the great times in the near future.
LTE will spread like wild fire and be complete by next years end.
Now if you have no problem going and paying more elsewhere and having data caps/throttling then more power to ya.

at the moment im looking into switching carriers to to lack of any cdma (at that sprint) towers in my area so my evo will be demoted to a voip phone using grooveip (actually it already has been so i can still use to to make calls) and keep my google voice intergration to have texts still come through. and other than that it will be a glorified mp3 player with its 32gb of storage .
so is it gonna be a paper weight or how are you gonna repurpose it
I will put it in a frame and hang it up in the living room LOL

donate it to a dev in EVO forum.
I will be adopting mine into a new and loving family, where I believe it will continue a long and happy life, flashing and re-flashing and getting new mods... *sigh* they grow up so fast...
Since my wife will continue to use her OG, I'll be keeping mine as a backup.
In fact, I probably won't even be using my new LTE device at all until after LTE rolls out in my area. Since I have such good 4G where I live and travel, I think I'll just continue to keep my OG activated, and use the LTEVO as a Wi-Fi only device until I can get LTE on it. And hopefully, until it's fully unlockable.

I'm actually looking at doing the same thing since i'm going to be moving back to an area that sprint basically doesn't exist.I have been checking out Verizon phones but haven't found one that I would be 100% happy with. So idk what i'm going to do. And the Evo will still be used to flash roms and a media player (32GB SD FTW!)
Grooveip has been a savior lol sucks to be with out data when I'm out and about

I've never tried GrooveIP is that like Google Voice? Google Voice has saved me alot of times haha. Comes in handy when flashing roms too never have to back text or voicemail.
Keeping it Just like I kept my G1 It is hiding around somewhere in this house

I had considered trading it in, but I decided I'm going to keep it for development purposes. I'm moving on to the LTEvo but can't imagine not having a ROM in the works for the OG. I think we are far from maxing out the potential of this device and it will remain a proving ground for up and coming developers.

groove ip uses your google voice number as a real phone number. such as i have set up the full voice intergration with my number so as long as i have a data connection or roaming data when im out i will get a phone call and of course if i turn data off it will just revert back to the standard method of phone calls but as i said i have zero signal at the house so it allows calls over wifi like some gsm carriers can do and other things like skype and what not but without having to give a diff number out.

and thank god my evo loves your roms lol
Well since I'm the most poorest guy on this site, it will take me 1yr to save up 300bucks for a new phone. I have no contract since my phone is og evo with boost mobile network. But if I have an upgrade I'll say use this as a play phone so I can still show off my phone.

we have three evo s in the house. two are used as phones and the other is a rescue from the drink a few months back. Its currently living on as my XBMC remote and a back up if ever one of the other two goes down.
these phones rock and have the specs to stay in use for years to come.

I still haven't messed with Google voice. Can you just make up a number, leave wifi on use it for home phone? What's your plan?
Thanks

Mine will probably just go back in the box, like all of my other phones that have been retired. I am thinking about keeping it out just to try out the new roms that come out in the future.
