Hi, I was wondering does sprint nav cost extra to use?
Nope, as long as you have an all data plan its included on your plan
Nope, no extra charge. (It's pretty nice to use ^_^)
you guys like it better then Google Navigation?
I like both actually - the sprint nav is more pleasing on the eye I guess you can say.
If you are willing to pay for a good NAV program then I would highly suggest Co-Pilot - graphically and options wise you can't beat it.
The other two bigger names IGO and NAVIGON have not released NA maps or programs yet. I know with Free its hard to pay for something but I have been a Co-Pilot fan for a while.
i've got no problem paying for a good solid GPS app since i would use this quite a bit. i'll see if they have a demo i can play with before purchase. thanks!!
I like the Google Nav better as the Sprint Navs voice could be a lot better than what it is.

Do they have an online service with daily or at least weekly map updates that doesn't cost a fortune?
If not - why bother.

As far as I know - no one offers what I am asking for in any market :-(
Before it is available a GPS is just not worth the price compared to a standard map for car navigation. On a boat or in the wilderness - sure, these environments don't change that often.
Navigated from northern Sweden to Barcelona with TomTom3 without ever finding a broken route. It even kept us clear from the autobahn in Germany, because you can't drive a light truck with a light trailer on it on Sundays.. Strange.. Had to re-route manually though, but it sure got us where we wanted and we were back on autobahn about 5 minutes after the ban ended.
I agree that they should offer updates, but once every quarter would be enough, I think.

I guess you still followed at least b-roads?
To follow b-roads I don't need a GPS, my old map will do just as well as long as I have my wife next to me.
It is when there is a sudden change to the route because of road works or tragic jams I need a GPS to suggest an alternative route. But with maps and traffic information older than ten to fifteen minutes this is of little help.
I think 200sek (£15) is about what one month of constantly updated maps for one country is worth for a private user. And with constant I mean at least every 15 minutes.
B-roads? Hehe, We were directed on roads the Germans themselves didn't know existed But without a doubt, they were really fast when going from one bigger road to another.
I bet you'll not find those 15 minute map updates this decade. Traffic info in one thing (which TomTom offers, although not in Sweden), but changed maps.. I think not..
Ok, you don't need to actually update the entire map every fifteen minutes. But you should at least get an update everytime there has been a change to the real world that affects the map. And it should definitely be updated with accurate speed limits.
If you don't like it don't buy it!
I personally think it's a usefull tool, I'm currently looking to relocate to a new area that I don't know and have found TomTom a fantastic aid when driving around cities you don't know looking for property.
Just put the post code in and drive from door to door
Oh and if you subscribe to the Traffic service you can get Live Traffic information delivered to your device by GPRS........ well you can in the UK anyway
UK and Holland has the traffic info only..
Accurate speed limits would be great. I don't know any program that offers this though. About the map updating, It's TeleAtlas who buys the data from local companies and sells it to the makers of GPS programs. I doubt even the local companies update very often, but I read somewhere that TeleAtlas wants users to tell them about errors in the maps so that they can update and have more accurate maps for the next release.
I think the main problem is the price model. Instead of selling cumulative updates at an affordable subscription cost, whenever ther is a new version of the map you have to buy an entirely new map! This is how it used to work in the old days, when maps had to be printed in books and put on a shelf in a shop.
And why are the maps by country or region? Give me the entire thing and let me pay for what I use! Not until I view or route through a part of the map on the device should I be charged for it.
Hey there,
is there any free navigation solution out there? There is a german program called oe-navi, but it's not customed for TP2 yet.
Is tehre any compareable program, especially for germany, suisse, austria and norway?
Bye,
Christohper
Google Maps
But two be honest: if you want a good and working navigation --> go and buy iGO8 from NavNGo. Got mine from www.bitmart.eu and this soft is really great!
If you have an unlocked HTC version of TP2, your phone came with a special CoPilot offer: http://www.alk.com/htc/
Amaze gps. It's pretty slow but it works and it is free. It also has a pretty good coverage.

As far as I remember, the offer was (in the UK at least) for a free 15-day trial of CoPilot ... is it really worth the effort?
Looking for the same solution!!
Nav4all is free until 1-1-2010

free to use until 01/01/10 or free to download until then?
Bing has turn by turn directions, unlike google maps.
I recently tried Waze, Nav4All, and Amaze. While they technically worked, they were all slow, had routing problems (IE: driving down a major road, they would tell me to turn left into a housing area, drive 1 or 2 blocks, turn right, drive 1 or 2 blocks, turn right, then turn left back onto the major road), and in my opinion, they all had cumbersome interfaces.
I just bought Copilot Live 8 last night, and it is vastly superior. If you are in the US like I am, it is on sale for $20 (the sale ends tonight) at http://www.alk.com/copilot/

I bought the copilot since the reviews were generally good. Now I'll just need to wait for my phone to arrive
Excellent bit of kit
I've got to agree with shdwphnx, the TP2 combined with Copilot8 works brilliantly, shame that traffic is not available for UK yet.
I just use google maps it works fine for me and is most importantly accurate and free.
i'm in the market for an app (paid or otherwise) that can stream LIVE tv. when i saw that there was a trial membership for mobitv, i was excited...until i started using it. the resolution sucked, there's only about 4 live channels with the rest being saved replays...and tmo expect people to pay $10/month for this junk!? spbtv can do better. their channels sucked, but at least the channels were live. and it's a one-time fee.
does anyone have recommendations for an app that can stream live tv at a...respectable resolution? in particular, i'm looking for one that can serve my sports fix (espn, fox sports, etc). any opinions is appreciated
From what I hear Slingbox is pretty nice. Little expensive to setup but is pretty cool when you set it up. I don't think its actually live more of a DVR that streams to devices.
I got pissed off and called Tmobile and asked why the other 3 tele's have free tv and i got to pay for this. Then i found out I have to pay for telenav as well......I never had to pay for those services! Of course she just said "im sorry" But yea besides slow speed the mobile tv and telenav issue really bothers me.

well theirs no decent gps turn by turn voice navigation for free on windows mobile so I dont think their no reason to not pay if you want to use your hd2 as a car gps. The mobile tv its a rip off I didnt even bother trying it.
on my device volume controllers does not work when the application is open

This is why it sort pays to have 2 lines. Cause I have the g1 on the other line which has google maps and there's a free add on app that adds turn by turn talk navigation to it again FREE!!!! This is the only thing I hate about the HD2 as well as ALL OTHER Win Mo devices, everything worth having costs. That's where the iphone and droid based phones will ALWAYS excel beyond Win Mo devices.
Hey,which GPS software is good for G.Tab??Beside the stock GPS provide by TAB??
I have a tab on order but haven't gotten it yet. However, I have used copilot live on my g1, original mytouch, behold 2, and on my vibrant, and it works very well. It isn't free, but you download the maps to your sd card, so the gps works whether you have a data connection Or not... even in airplane mode.

I use NavDroyd From the market. It costs about $6 USD but well worth the money. Its not as feature filled at the big name packages, but serves my purposes well. It includes global map that you can download regions partially or in full. My only complaint is that it doesn't have street address info to search on, so I plan ahead and do it in Google Maps, then set a pin to the address in NavDroyd.
Another minor annoyance is it doesn't navigate you down one way roads properly. I found out the hard way in Manhattan last week
I still love it though. It gets updated often and keeps getting better.
I beleive for asean region. . . PAPAGO X5 is the only one good to go. However the navigation seems to be a bit out for our Tab. It brings u all over the place instead of a straight road. I am wondering why becos on another Android device it works well. All settings are the same

I've tried CoPilot and Sygic Mobile Maps 10 in the UK and CoPilot wins hands down between the two. Sygic does not scale properly on the Tab and isn't designed to use the soft keys for Menu etc. CoPilot looks excellent on the large screen.
try sygic aura 2.o its work perfectly on gtab

I didn't realise Aura was now available for Android. I might take a look at that.
I got Copilot Live 8 working last night. Looks quite good but it is rather slow, at least feels slower than on N1.
Just saw that copilot live has done special pricing for thanksgiving... north american version is 9.99, and the usa only version is just 2.99(i paid 29.99 for my copy of the NA maps 2 years ago)... I went ahead and bought the usa version last night even though I already have the north america version for my vibrant so that I can run one on my tab when I get it, and still be able to use the other on my vibrant... I've been happy with it on all of my android phones so far, I hope it runs as nicely on the tab...

I saw this too - since I'm heading to Florida for a few weeks early next year, I bought the USA version. I've been using Copilot since it came out for Android and I think it's fantastic. At that price, words fail me!

Hmm can you use paypal to pay for Co-pilot?

I've been using Navigon in the US and it works very well on the tab
Now that you guys mentioned GPS programs for the tab, i will be going to the states for a month and a half ( yes really good vacations ), and since i am based on greece, i want a gps program that i can pre-cache maps on it without using my data plan since we all know that roaming charges are over the roof.
So i was watching closely at Google Maps that a user called Brut, modified and it supposedly run pre-cached maps on all zoom levels 0-14 from andnav and you can even download the tiles and put them on the sdcard and have them.
Well i dont really wanna bother the dudes at his thread because its somehow 300+ pages, and i wanna ask if someone else used it because i am gonna try it and see if it works.
Any help is appreciated.

Copilot USA is $2.99 in the Market!
Just buy it whilst it's that cheap as it won't stay at that price for long (Thanksgiving sale).

It can pre-cache maps and use turn-by-turn directions ?
Strange thing happened to me.
I just got a german SGT and D/L latest firmware (via kies - XXJK5)
I installed a Navigon .apk that I found somewhere and it automatically D/L'd and installed all the maps for Australia and NZ for free. Nice app as well.
I am saying goodbye to my ATRIX, At&t has ZERO 3g in my area. Despite their map suggesting "data" connection, I have to drive almost 2 hours to get off of EDGE. So anyway, I was wondering a few things about the XOOM if you guys don't mind sharing some knowledge.
Taxes and Extra fees: How much does Verizon add to your bill past the initial 20 dollars? Do they let you change your plan mid-month if you think you will need more data so long as you haven't already gone over?
Tethering: Does verizon allow the XOOM to create a wifi hotspot? Could barnacle or some other third party app do the same without all the fuss?
Gaming: Is it difficult to play games on the tablet? Is it too large to hit the buttons properly while holding it in one hand?
Mounting: Is there any easy solution to mount it to a dashboard? I would need it to function as a GPS device, movie viewer and gaming center while I am either driving or riding around.
Thanks for the input guys. My work pays for my phone, but they won't provide me with a smartphone. This seems like it is the most effective way to go.

standard taxes/fees. assume 15-18% to be safe and yes you can change your plan midmonth, no contract extension or anything. you can even do it if you have gone over and we will backdate the plan to avoid overages. just beware of standard proration. wifi hotspot is a feature in the settings. built into your plan, i.e no extra cost. some emulators are rough but games from the market are simple to operate. no nav mount yet, not in corp stores at least (im a sales rep.)

Holding it in one hand and actually using it is not easy. GPS works fine as long as you have data, no data no directions.
Sent from my Xoom
Dont know about taxes and fes but the whole billing process is a hassle. Its not as streamlined as ipad. Its like opening up a brand new line on a cellphone.
Gaming is fun currently and will be more so when more games are released
Movie viewing seems to be hit or miss depending on who you talk to. It possible and capable, but not right out of the box.
I hope when you say for driving your only talking about the GPS portion. Because if your gonna be looking down at your xoom to watch a movie or play a game while your driving ill be sure to stay off the roads in your city.

Hah, well I would need to use it as GPS, or maybe tether to another phone to use as GPS. So some kind of dash mount may be necessary. And as far as the gaming and movies I was referring to when I am a passenger. I tend to play emulated games more than anything really, so it is nice to just throw the thing up somewhere and pull out a wiimote.
(hopefully wiimotes work on this, unlike samsung)
