I think there's more going on then Google releasing froyo with the new Iphone to piss them off.
Like I said in my other post, I think they will be removing teethering and wifi hotspot.
Why? to please the carriers.
I really hope Im wrong, but it just seems like its taking way to long for froyo to be dropped officially.

I din't think they would remove tethering, they know how pissed the android community would be, plus its already in the unofficial version. And a carrier can track whether you are using tethering so its the carriers prerogative to charge the user if they have a problem with it. What makes you think that they are removing this feature?
I ordered my N1 tonight... im so happy =)
why would they do that to please carriers? T-mo has a site dedicated to show you how to tether? When I had a BB, i called t-Mo up and they directed me to this site... Other carriers charge for this service... I def know Sprint does. What it does is gives you options, which is the point of Android. They should at the very least have a warning screen telling you that you can be charged depending on your carrier. If thats the case, Im rooted anyway.. Cyanogen FTW
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Internet-Connection-Sharing/bd-p/PhoneAsModem
as for the date, i dunno and dont care...my real wait is Cyan 6.0

I guess you're not familiar with programming at all. Do you really think dropping a feature takes that long? Compiling a build with feature enabled or disabled is about as simple as setting a global def, and the builds are tested in many configurations anyway.
Why are people so busy with dumb predictions? Google scheduled the final rollout in June. Well, June has barely begun, and they're fixing bugs, what the hell do you think they're doing?!

Could you please explain, how does a carrier track tethering? What is it different from phone's own data connection? They get down to IP protocol level for detection?
Hehe, I do agree with that. Froyo releasing during Apple's keynote should take away some of the people's attention from apple to android!

Yes, data is data, they cant tell where the data is going, as far as they know the phone is using it, but when data is sent back out through the phone it is sent out in packets (like all internet files) these packets contain everything useful in tracking a computer, based on these packets they can tell if it was sent from a phone or a pc, and the only way a pc signed packet could be sent through a phone is if it is tethered.

LOL Bastards!!! Its funny, I took the test and passed everything for the Rep position here in Rancho, but for some reason they never call me back. LOL They probably get scared when they see I worked for Verizon and at&t. LOL
the admins on the sprint forums already stated (many times) that the 9th was a date provided through false information. in other words, the mom people had pics of, was wrong.
I don't even think Dan Hesse knows when the update is, lol

Vince, different areas have different requirements, but I know that Verizon where I live will rarely hire someone with prior cell phone experience. They want to brainwash you with their ways and methods, for the most part. Not sure about AT&T, when I interviewed with them, I was so turned off to their practices, I pretty much told them I wasn't interested right then & there. Never expected a call back, nor did I want one. Going back to Sprint this week, so my sources will be in full effect, I'll see what tidbits I can get you guys.

Just a tease for y'all. Zifnab and I hacked this up tonight.
Notice no USB cord? Notice phone going to sleep on it's own? Notice the lack of connection because my Eris is a POS and has a bad radio.
Yes thats nexus one lwp full working, in nexus launcher (launcher2), with an unpatched Gallery3D with rotation working.
Yes 3D is no longer an issue on our phone.
PS My rooted eris is now officially dead, there will be no more dev work from me unless I can obtain a replacement.
that is freaking AWESOME, ill keep an eye out for the release.
but on the other hand it sucks that ur eris finally bit the big one..
on another note tho where the hell can i get that live wallpaper. I CANT FIND IT!
i got about 13 other live walls..but that one.
That live wallpaper is one of the previous non working ones. Hence why this is special. You can get it out of our next release.
As always, http://www.zifnab06.net for more details
we still need to rewrite the lwps to work more smoothly.
this poor underclocked processor cant handle these bad boys all that well. but this is a great start

I'm officially starting to get worried about the froyo update. Samsung has had two major press events in the past two weeks and haven't even mentioned a word about froyo. I'm starting to think only the European/Korean models will get froyo.
^^I believe Samsung never promised the US phones to have Froyo in sept, just the different forums members did. The Euro Galaxy S is scheduled to get Froyo, NO ONE said the US versions will be getting it in September

Why did you guys think this press release would be about their phones? Of course, you were probably thinking they would mention it somewhere in the press, but in actuality it was mostly about their Tab.

Yes, I am aware of that. I was giving a solution to the person I quoted. Not to mention that engadget is reporting that the 3g versions will most likely be sold on contract, possibly meaning you may need a data plan. I'm suggesting (if it is possible), wait, let the reviews from actual 3g users come in, and then by the wifi tab cheaper and off contract...
As you all know the Nexus for Sprint is out and soon to be (my favorite) the Evo 3D. But with this new 10$ add on bill for any smartphone you get (even if you have the data unlimited plan) seems to let me down a lot on deciding if i should upgrade soon. I mean if you think about it every time you get a new smart phone 10$ is added to your bill. so theoretically your bill can be limitless. Ya i know 10$ is not much but hell, im only 20 and in school for a surg tech degree, i cant afford that monthly extra.
I really have no point in this paragraph haha. I guess just be blessed for those that are getting those awesome new tech. and il Duce, youre the only one i know so far that is moving on to the 3D, so please dont forget us HeroC homeless that cant afford it .
Hopefully Sprint will get rid of this mental add on. But in the mean time thinks for reading my rant
I'll most likely pick it up. Despite the cryptographiclly signed bootloader, kernel, and recovery, it will still kick ass. I looked through my apps and realized that there are only a few apps I have that require root access. I'll miss my wireless tether, but Mrs. User has a rooted hero, so I guess I could use hers.

From what I know about signed bootloaders and stuff, you can still root the phone - you just won't be able to put any custom firmware/roms/kernels/flash radios, etc.
That's why I'm straying away from the 3D as of now.. I compile my own roms and would go crazy if I had to stick with the stock ROM and not be able to load my roms, or at the very least load CM
But at least HTC said they'd "Review their bootloader policy" We'll see if they actually do anything about it though.

I don't think the carriers really have much of a word in things like that (well, except for AT&T with the whole not being able to (easily?) side-load apps), though it's interesting to see other manufacturers becoming more open with their devices, and HTC going the other direction. Hell, even Motorola said they won't release such locked down phones now.
Here's to hoping we get a variant of the G2x.... with qHD.
I didnt know it was coming with a signed BL!! where do you devs get this crazy info at. This might change my plans.
But Yeah the 3d sounds just like a beast, but im just so addicting to moding. Man this is a toughy. I thought HTC was pretty open to opening the BL.. hope they dont pull a Steve Jobs =(
If you want to boycott HTC and still want Sense, get the Nexus S

Not just the bootloader, but the recovery and the kernel are cryptographically signed. With 256 bit encryption. Virtually uncrackable without a leak from HTC.

For a 256, that would be something. But alas, we all have.to.wake up some time.

Only way I could see it being remotely possible is if we set up one of those distributed computing/"donate your cpu time" clients to have thousands of computers working on cracking the key at the same time.
256-bit keys are srs bisness

If you look at what our amazing devs have done already, I would be the least bit surprised if they did it in no time

no need, HTC is going to unlock, click link in my sig.
+1 for our amazing devs...let the shameless butt-kissing ensue. Seriously, they've allowed my little Heroc to live on far beyond it's natural life-span.
FWIW about the new phones though, I was tempted, but I'm holding off till the X-mas lineup comes out. As the commercial goes "...then we must teach you to wait." The Evo 3D looks like a solid contender, but I'm shying away from the Nexus S...1) no microsd card support, and 2) it's a samsung (I'm the "proud" owner of two Moments...uuuuugghh).
With rumors about the Nexus 3 being made by HTC and avail on Sprint, if it happens, that's what I'll jump for. Here's hoping!
