Back Button on Default Browser? - Desire Themes and Apps

For me Default HTC Desire problem is nice. I like it so much, faster and multiple windows. My question is simple.
When we open some sites and read more details some stories, when we push back button, it's look the browser re open the current site.
Is it possible if we push back button, the site will load instantly without reload to server?
How?

The Best Way to Download Youtube Videos (GUARANTEED)

I have finally discovered the best method to download youtube videos in the highest quality in playable format on our G1's.
I will update this as frequently as I can to make sure it stays current/works properly.
Alright, so steps 1 and 2 only need to be done one time.
1st: Go to the market and download MyBookmarks.
2nd: Open it, click import your bookmarks (type in 0420420420 when asked for your phone #)
Simply import the bookmark! (one by one or all at once)
3rd: Just go to the youtube page of choice on your stock browser, and once on it go to your bookmarks. Find and click the new bookmark (usually at the very bottom) called "YouTube Downloader".
Thats it. It'll instantly start downloading.
If you would like to rename the file, get a file manager such as ASTRO from the market. For Astro open it up, find the file in /sdcard/downloads and long press it. Then choose edit and rename..
Don't forget to 5* Rerwares great apps! Show them some support
Also Steel functionality has been added.
1. Go to www.xblight.com/tube.html on your steel browser.
2. Since copy and paste doesnt work too well on steel, do this. Hold down shift (arrow facing up, bottom left of keyboard) and start moving the trackball around until the code it all highlighted. Then hold down the track ball and copy all.
3. Now simply add a new bookmark and paste that in the bottom portion.
4. Now just do it the same way as before. Go to a youtube video page and click on the bookmark.
The good thing about the steel method is that it lets you rename the file on the fly
If you are on the youtube application, watching a video, and suddenly decide you want to download it, do the following. Hit menu -> share. Long press the link and copy all. Then just paste it in the URL hit enter, and click on your bookmark =)
I've also added several things which you can see below in the changelog.
Don't try to do it any other way, the steel code does NOT work in the stock browser and vice versa.
E-mail me at [email protected] with any suggestions or problems.
Changelog:
1.0 - Works and downloads the very highest available quality.
1.1 - Quick fix. Found out that our g1's don't like to play the HD videos so now it gets the highest quality that isn't HD.
1.2 - Now it will check to see if you are actually on a youtube video page. If not itll redirect you to the youtube homepage. (Code altered to work on steel)
1.3 [1-3-09] - It now gives you a message right before you redirect so you know whats going on =P. Also the name was changed to YouTube Downloader.
Enjoy!
Where does it store the stuff you Download? Just wondrin...
EDIT - Never mind - I had a go and it goes in the downloads folder on the sdcard an d it works WONDERFULLY!! Thanks for this
Dais xx
I have no clue how you got that to work but great job!
Can't you just cut/paste the bookmark here instead of us needing to get it from that saved bookmark via the import bookmark program?
My guess is it must just be a URL to a site that uses the previous URL you were at (I think it's called the Referrer URL)?
I would but it doesnt work.
If you copy and paste the code in a bookmark on android it'll instantly add http:// to the beginning.
The code is in javascript and adding http:// will render it useless.
This is the only way around it.
Plus its quicker for everyone
so you are just changing the url on the fly?
can it be done with a simple http referrer check?
if you are one of the people who setup one of those sites I think you could do it that way and then it would work from any browser/phone/pc without javascript
1. goto youtube.com/foo?goo=hoo&ioo=joo
2. goto someutubehack.com/getmedavid
3. script getmedavid looks at the referrer which is the url in 1
4. script getmedavid gets the vid and sends it back to you
5. you save it
6. profit! (sorry I read to much /.)
Yeah,
That works, but this way is the quickest way for android phones.
And yea, it just changes the url on the fly,
and if the video has HD available, it gets that version.
Meaning best quality every time =)
Go to the URL in my first post.
There are several methods to do the same thing.
This rocks! Thanks for sharing...
I had previously used another method for downloading, but how does it get any easier than this? You just hit Youtube, find the video, and hit the bookmark.
Only downside is needing to rename the video after download, but that's the same as with any PC-based downloader as well.
worked like a charm
EDIT- So do you have to go through step 2 again everytime? I had to because i couldnt find the "DL Youtube Video" bookmark in my bookmarks..??
If you downloaded it within the past 6-7 hours it will be called Youtube Downloader.
I updated it last night and found that name more fitting.
EDIT: New instructions added check above.
am I crazy or is mybookmarks gone from the market? Lost it when I did a wipe installing 1.41
You're carzy! hehe
I just literally downloaded it from the Market myself... maybe do a search.

Hey fyi 0420420420 no longer has the bookmark. Can you reup it or give a similar solution like you gave to steel users? It was working earlier today but I went to jf1.41 and forgot to save it. Thx
Use the steel link and copy the code and save it to your own bookmarks and upload it to your own number in mybookmark. I just did this and it worked. Plus now you have your own personal copy.
Yes, it appears someone has replaced the bookmark.
I put it back up, still 0420420420.
Don't know why anyone would do that.
Also, the steel code does NOT work with the stock browser.
The easiest and basically only way to get this working on the stock browser is like this.
sweet another reason to get sidetracked at work. good stuff.
Yea don't pay any attention to me. Whoa I got 2 now I'm on a row baby. Well thanks for this anyways, I can't stop downloading from youtube.

If this happens again then I will start constantly changing the numbers.

If you notice that someone has changed this one let me know here or email me asap and i'll put up a new one.
Don't listen to su3ng he has 1 post .

Thanks for the update, but is it really that easy to change a book mark, what a crappy way to set up that app then...
btw, you may want to tell people to do it one by one. cause when your old 420 bookmark was overwritten, there were about 25 bookmarks. i did one by one, and went thru each one hoping that yours was still there, but it'd be a total pain in the ass if you imported all 25 and had to delete them
thanks this is great. i love the fact that it downloads in mp4 format which is great for easy importing into your computer.
I just never thought anyone would overwrite mine.
So sad
I'm gonna talk rerware and see if theres a way to lock it.
EDIT: RERWARE IS GOING TO LOCK 0420420420!

Full website browsing?

To make this short, sweet, and to the point: if someone can tell me how to view only 'full sites' with the browser that would be great. Also, without using an outside browser app. Devs please feel free to delete when felt necessary. I tried a search but didn't come up with anything....
Thanks
Travis C
I suggest using dolphin browser, go into settings > user agent > desktop. I'm not sure about the default browser, haven't used it in a while, but I know a lot of times at the bottom of a site it will have the option to view full site.
Interesting it looks like the feature was removed. I remember on 1.6 you could switch between Android, iPhone, or Desktop.
I believe that was just on the custom browser made by Loccy(sp?). It was based off the regular browser source code, but was still basically custom made.
True. I guess that I had been using ROMs for so long that I had forgotten that the original didn't have that. Guess I will just have to wait a little longer. But some on the sites do have the option but some of them just load straight back to the mobile view on I select it. But no biggy.
MODs please feel free to delete this thread whenever. We can leave it at 'that option will probably be put into a future ROM'.

Try Steel, good browser, has user agent Desktop option.

Browser that actually stores pages in cache, does one exist?

My favorite browser so far is Dolphin, with the stock android browser running a close second. But, the only problem with both browsers is that they don't seem to utilize much of the cache when it comes to moving backwards and forwards through web pages.
For example, let's say I'm on the General forum of N1 on XDA. I click into a thread, then when I want to go back to the general forum. Instead of taking a split second to access whatever's in cache, it'll go through the whole process of downloading all the content again.
Can it not do what our computer browsers do and just read it straight off the cache?
Opera Browser does that.. is it worth the switch is the question.
You know, I always wondered why the stock browser kept such a large cache, but never seemed to load pages from it... not that I am giving you any assistance with your question.. more like adding one of my own.
Anyone know why this is?
Sorry it double posted me...

Desktop browsers do the same thing. It's just a lot faster.
There's no way to load a webpage 100% from cache.
I open new windows/tabs 95% of the time. And that's BOTH on my phone and on my PC. I rarely use the same tab, and have been middle clicking etc for years.
I hope cyanogen can add this functionality, possible with an adjustable time frame. Say to only poll server side if it's been more than 5 minutes since you last loaded the page.
It's frustrating having to wait for a page to reload like the subscription list page.
what is stopping you from loading pages in new tabs like paul was saying. that seems like it would accomplish what you want.
Just to clarify because this may not be common knowledge...
Opening a link in a new tab is activated by long pressing on the link

I used to do that on the desire rom when I had it loaded, because switching tabs was easier and faster on the HTC broswer.
Default browser is kinda of a pain to change tabs, and the press/hold to get to the open new link shortcut is one second to long and moves into cumbersome territory.
I browse a little different on the phone than I do on the desktop. I've been on opera's nuts for years since they first introduced tabs to the world. =D

Why does Google on the sense tab work differently than on the Opera browser?

I don't know if anyone else has tried this, but the google box that you can bring up on the Sense tab (the one for internet) is different than the one when you open the Opera Browser that is right under the address bar. The difference between the two is the one on the Sense tab gives you the results of the search, but anytime you click on any of the links for your results its TEXT ONLY. The one on the Opera Browser has links that takes you to the site, but still lets it stay as a "desktop" looking site. Anyone know why it does that? Is it a glitch? Can it be fixed?
I agree. I would like to know as well.
In the tab: you can change it in registry to the following and it will do every google search in desktop version :
google.com/search?hl=en-US&output=html&q=%s
however, if you are in the browser already, and did a google search, it will come up in mobile search results.
How can we change the one in browser to desktop searchers?
Hmm never noticed this before, might be a good idea to
change it to give proper search results
The search bar that you refer to invokes Google's specilaized mobile view rendering service. Essentially what Google does is to take all the websites out there and convert them to a mobile friendly version before diplaying it on your screen.
That's why it is different from the Desktop View and even the Opera Mobile View because Google is dong the conversion, not the browser.
It's quite handy if you want quick access to text information.

custom user agent.
as you are now opera is telling google it is a mobile browser. spoof for example the FireFox desktop use agent and you will see desktop google.
as for the search tab, as mentioned above you can force the results and even use a different search engine if you like.

Browser: Load all pages as 'desktop' ?

Is there an easy way to make all pages 'think' that the browser is a desktop? Like if I go to google.com I want it to take me to classic instantly, and any other sites that automatically adjust to mobile sites if it detects a phone.
If you use Dolphin Browser you can set the user agent to desktop and it will load all pages that way.
EVO on Tapatalk
How does dolphin compare to the stock browser?
Dolphin HD is slow in my opinion, you could also try opera mini 5.1.
I still prefer the stock browser.
here is a trick to always view your favorite websites in desktop view. I don't know how to make every site open as desktop, just your most frequent ones.
Go to a website.. such as www.google.com
it will auto open mobile view...scroll down in the website and click on desktop. once desktop view opens.. set this page as a bookmark... now everytime you access the pg via bookmark, it will go to desktop view.
another option, if you want to set google.com desktop as your homepage.
again click desktop, when desktop google comes up, copy the link, paste this new link as your homepage. and your phone will automatically go into desktop google everytime you open your browser.
you can bookmark many webpages, so just set up your most favoritely frequented sites to be bookmarked as desktop view. simple!
There is a code you can enter into your browser that gives you more settings. One of those is the ability to make your phone appear as a desktop, not a phone.
However, I tried this and my browser crashed and I had to delete all data and cache to get it to work again. This DID work on the Nexus One when flash came out (allowed us to watch hulu.com)
The string is about:debug, then go to web settings. Last option is ua string. Change to desktop. Again though, I DO NOT recommend doing this.

I don't know about everyone esle but i like SKYFIRE browser from the market: allows you to choose between Android, Desktop or Iphone i think as your default loading method. It's very speedy to load in desktop mode. Try that out

Yep, this works well. A few pages still detect the presence of a mobile browser, but 9 out of 10 pages load the desktop versions.
I always experienced Skyfire on other phones as laggy. Does it run as fast as Android stock browser?
