So, I had a G1 prior to the MT3G. Back when we were all mad because 1.6 wasn't pushing yet, but could any day, we had threads goin waiting for a status from someone that they were getting the OTA. The first people that got it were over seas, UK I believe. Within hours, that version of 1.6 was pulled, posted, and we manually updated to it. If I remember correctly, there wasn't a need to root to run the TMo pushed 1.6. So, my question is, why couldn't someone pull 2.2 w/ UI, and then we install it, especially those of us with the perfect SPL. Is that possible, or is it prevented by hardware/firmware incompatiblities?
Any thoughts?

Not quite sure i understand you, but a rom has to be made for each specific device. So with the g1 is t-mobile US didnt relelease 1.6 for g1 but t-mobile uk did then it didnt matter, same device it could just be flashed.
We have to wait for someone to release 2.1 rom for MT3G in any country before we get an official 2.1 rom, rather than aosp roms and ports

Even with HTCSync I couldn't get the drivers to work. I also tried on both a laptop and desktop. I got the numbers of the card using terminal on the phone, made the gold card, didn't work. Maybe that's because it's a sandisk, dunno...

Can't we just begin a Flash of the latest 2.1 leak onto the device and find a point in the middle where we remove the battery causing the device to lose the build number. This would allow it to put 1.5 on because it has no build number and would assume 1.5 is an upgrade...
Has anyone tried anything like this?
It may be a dumb idea that will just brick the phone.
As far as I know this would just brick your phone
would result in a brick.

I tried the battery pull on my Eris during a flash. Didn't work for me maybe I pulled it out at wrong point.
I think the boooader is still newer so it would only allow me to flash a same or newer image.

wait.....what??
I would STRONGLY advise against pulling your battery during a flash.
A few individuals tried this for us while we were trying to find a downgrade and we ended up with a few bricks and NO successes, so the chances are pretty high that you WILL BRICK IF YOU DO THIS.
Downgrade from 2.1 to 1.5
I'm sure we would all love to know how to do that

You mean you had a rooted 1.5 then loaded a 2.1 rom then loaded a 1.5 rom i assume? Since 2.1 isn't rooted yet so you can't go from 2.1 to 1.5.
I think Failure is confused, and is confusing others in the process. Use identifiers like 2.1leak or 2.1root to avoid misunderstandings in these threads that are viewed by both leakers and rooters. I think he meant he has 2.1root and either went back to 1.5stock or 1.5root.

Yeah. I tend to be a pretty heavy lurker in the 2.1leak root project threads and don't remember anyone saying that there was a downgrade available. I'd have been all over that in a heartbeat.

hes slightly mistaken
as 11BE-5 mentioned, that downgrade is from ROOTED 2.1 to 1.5. there is no downgrade for leakers.
Would there be anyway to get another 2.1 3rd party ROM on there? I have a friend with a 2.1 Eris that was updated via RUU from someone internally at Verizon. Tried to flash it back to 1.5 and the RUU would say it couldn't communicate with the phone after a minute or so once it started trying to flash. The 2.1 ROM isn't a root ROM, so is there anyway to go back to 1.5??
Hi! I've my HD2 with Android Group 2.2
Android inform that are an update but I can't install, because it ask to reboot, after reboot it inform again that there is an update.
How can I solved this situation?
Is there another room of Android to my HD2?

By update do you mean an firmware update or an app update? If firmware update, you shouldn't really be updating your device as the hd2 wasn't meant to receive that update in the first place.
When I choose the option to search for a update, it found one. Then I try to insyall, because it have to reboot I never get the chance to install.
I also haverá problems to make a call when connected to my Parrot.

Not only that, but the HD2 is not a native android phone. Android is hacked onto it. It's a port. No official updates from HTC or any carriers.

Well said.
Your phone will never be recognized as an Android HD2... cause it doesn't exist.
So you're trying to update the NAND of another phone... you're lucky it doesn't work
Update via the thread of the build you used (or with another build).

actually if the rom is taken from another phone and not changed at all except to boot on the hd2 and is only rooted i could see it trying to get updates
OK, so I used to have the MT3G before 2.2 was out, went with the HD2, then the MT4G, and now I'm back to a TMo US MT3G without the 3.5 jack, non-Fender. I user to know the process for root, but now I'm clueless. I can't even remember which is the 32A and which is the 32B (which do I have?).
So, what I need is WiFi tether for my Galaxy Tab, but I'm not sure what to do. This MT3G I bought (from someone on CL) currently has Android 2.2, however I do NOT know if it is stock or rooted, or how to tell. I am not worried about having custom ROM's and whatnot since I have the Tab, I just need WiFi tether...
What should I do? lol
Google the Universal Androot method. That'll get you root then you can get Barnacle from the Market.

Two Things:
1st: When I plug the USB into the phone and PC, it does not do anything. The typical notification is not there either. It acts as though nothing is there, yet it does show to be charging. I can't find an option for this.
2nd: Saw this on XDA in the Nexus One forums for this method of rooting: "EDIT2: Since Google patched the loop hole in 2.2.1, this app is no longer working for newer builds." Does this mean it will not work with a MT3G with 2.2.1, which I have?
***Edit: I emailed the file to my phone, it did not work after multiple tries. Just says it failed... Could I go back to like 2.1 somehow and get it to work? I am needing the WiFi tether STAT... lol
Anyone? I need to do this ASAP if at all possible. I'm at work till 6pm (4:30'ish now) and would like to finnish before I leave...
OK... All the sudden USB mount works. Ran SuperOneClick, it finished saying it's been rooted.
*** NM, figured it out, I'm an idiot... lol
Thank for the help...
Thing is, this SuperOneClick root method is pretty limited. Im afraid to partition my sdcard and wipe it. I just got a refurb MT3G 1.1 mailed to me after I told them my old mt3g was in a loop and i "tried everything". I was hoping to get a 3.5mmm jack 1.2 or some crap. Guy at t-mo store said Id get one if i returned it. Nope. same old mt3g. Came w/2.2.1 so Im having trouble. DO I need to partition my sd to root correctly? Thankx
to the op- take the apk from google dev/labs or off an older rom. adb push it to phone.

Hello everybody! I'm new to the forums. I also got a really big question to ask. Well I usually root my phone with Visionary using a TempRoot. Then I updaed my Evo Shift via OTA, or going to the HTC Software update thing and now I can't really root my phone I guess. Is there a solution to root my phone even though I have Gingerbread? If not right now, maybe soon? I really want to use the tethering app to tether to my PS3. PLEASE HELP!!!!
As of now no there is not. And it might take a while before there is one. Idk if your phone already came with the ota update, but if it didn't you could have waited cuz the same day the ota went live there was a rooted version here already.
Just about 2 hrs later it was rooted.Pretty much a fundemental, if htc or sprint push out an ota update it will unroot your phone.

You can use the sprint RUU to downgrade to froyo and then root it, worked for me, I'm not on my computer so I can't link it but it shouldn't be that hard to find. And instead of temp rooting it there's a nice gui in the dev section that will perm root it pretty easily then u can flash the rooted 2.3 update through CWM

You will need a computer but if you remember setting up your gingerbread update it asks if you want to back up your device on google..... Use ruu to go back root and flash a rom like cm7 and you can restore your device or you can use titanium backup to... Well... Back up and restore your apps. The RUU can be found in the Evo Shift wiki by going to the following URL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Speedy
Luckily the RUU pretty much walks you through the process itself. You'll need the HTC sync drivers if I remember correctly in order for it to find your phone. You should be all good. Good luck, dood

Good question! I'm assuming the OP just means that it's "official" in that it was made by HTC and hasn't been modified. I haven't read anywhere else that the 2.11.605.0 release will be the OTA release.

They will be termed "buggy" in my opinion until the VM notification is fixed. If you're using this phone in a business environment it's more "catastrophic" than "buggy".

I beg to differ. I've gotta bug (that could be the result of user error, but I don't think so) When I get a call, no one can hear me unless I'm on speaker or Bluetooth. I haven't seen any posts from anyone else with that issue, but it's been only since I flashed this leak.
Edit: I noticed someone else had the same prob on the previous build and wiping then reflashing fixed it. My 4g is working much better... Hopefully voice and sporadically missing texts are fixed too.
