how to install android on tytn ii? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

is there an easy way to do this?
ive istalled xdandroid, but the screen isnt visible?

is this in the wrong place? ive managed to find this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5602064&postcount=1195
am i right in saying, as long as i run from sd card it wont flash over windows?
ive since managed to get 1.5 working but not sure i dare install this as i dont want to ruin the tytn ii?!

Don't worry, running Android under haret does not touch your windows install.

ok thanks.. sorry about all the questions, but to get this polymod 2.1g running i need to do the following:
get the base files
whack them in a folder called andboot on sd card
paste androidinstall.tgz in there
change default.txt to point to zimage-eclair
run haret
when promted hold dpad
this gives me that same as the fat32 picture on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5602064&postcount=1195
(this is as far as i dared go)
pick 1.install system ?
then select yes wipe system?
and thats it? i dont have to point it to androidinstall.tgz anywhere?
and just to confirm it will only give me the options to install over windows if i run from the internal memory?
sorry again for the q's, just want to be certain i do it right and dont muck it up...
also what is not fully working in this release?

and thanks for your response also...

sorry to keep posting on here, does the above sound correct?

[Tutorial]Beginner Android setup

Hey, since there is many requests for how to setup the android on you'r HD2, i was thinking "why dont i make one?" So here it is.
PS!!! My english is not the greatest.
First download this radio if you dont have it (recomended): 2.10.50.08_2
And install it, boot up you'r HD2. A stable ROM is also recomended.
Second download one of the builds from: Here
Third: Clear you'r SD card (Only if you have a low mb sd card) You dont really have to, but if you do, u might get some smoother speed.
Four: Extract the build you downloaded to you'r desktop on you computer and Copy the files inside the folder you extracted to. ALL files. and past them into you SD card. (VIA USB) once done, unplug you'r usb cable. (If u choosed the froyo build, just put the whole android folder to the root of you'r card)
Five: Disable the auto backlight in the WM first before you start android, Select file explorer on you'r HD2 (or simular programs) And go into you'r SD card Run clrcad (for the sound, If nothing happends, dont worry, dont supposed to) and run Haret. Then after the build has booted, plug you'r USB cable in you'r HD2 again (Android drains battery atm).
Six: Enjoy!
Note: If you'r screen turns black, turn off auto backlight. If it's still black, change radio. AND!!! This dont kills you'r winmo.
I'm non genius but i made this to help you guys.
Please correct me if i am wrong.
Cheers!
Hi,
Thanks for the info but I have done all that without the radio update. I'm running a stock vodafone ROM. I manage to get the haret launched and all the code scrolling but then the screen just fades to black and doen't finish the boot up... Is it the lack of the radio update doing this?? I'm not very clued in on this stuff.
Cheers!

No need to clear your SD card (I never did). It does make it easier to switch between builds, though, since you can just delete everything and copy over the next one you want to try.

Yes, most likely. What you're reporting sounds like what other people had before they installed a compatible radio.
Just want to add:
1. depends on the build, you have to extract the content to SD based on the instruction. (for example, the Froyo build you have to extract all files to a folder named "android" at the root of SD)
2. Must disable the auto backlight in the WM first, else you will some times get the "black screen". If you look carefully or under strong light, you'll still see things on screen, there is just no back light.
2. Run clrcad before Haret to get the sound working.
Cheers Meptik
I am looking to update the radio version... it that like doing the full ROM thing, in that it will re-set everything to factory default? Or is the radio update not as 'back to square one' on the phone as doing the ROM?

Updating only the radio shouldn't reset your HD2 to factory default, unless perhaps if you flash it using a stock ROM Update Utility.
Use the radio that FreddernLFC links to from the first post; it includes a CustomRUU, which should flash the radio to your HD2 without restoring it to factory defaults.
Hmmm.. will have another look at it. Ran through the updater and 5mins into it it errored so had to go through the recover process. I'll try again later. Cheers

Mine didn't work with stuff on my 8Gb card so I copied the whole card to my PC, reformatted the card, copied over the Android stuff and it then worked. I the copied all the back up stuff back and Android stopped working (tty error).

You try again. Common issue.
Hi Everyone, just wanted to add a few things. i would recommend you turn off sense from the device, then power off the device, once it powers on again go straight to your file explorer and run the process. you should notice the cursor at the bottom blink at a slower pace, if its in hyper mode the system will crash. it has been helping me, hopes this helps to all
what is this hyper mode what causes it i had to down gade my radio to 2.10.50.26 to get rid of the super fast un usableness of the 2.12.50.xx but i did like my 2.12.50.xx radio wish there was a way to make it work with that radio

winmo still remains there but sometimes you might need to hard reset
just switch off the phone in android or take out the battery and reboot, you are on win mo again.
good luck
How long does it spend? Because I am waiting for a long time.

actually finding out what it's looking for in the card is the key for fixing the problem.. like for example, if it's looking for the rootfs.img, then that means it's looking for the wrong folder and/or you have to edit your boot parameter to correct it or move certain files to the folder to get it working correctly.. so make a note of what it's looking for when you boot it up again and then come back here and let us know to get a better response on how to fix your problem
It's booting that there is no Rootfs.img in the SD but i checked it, even tried putting new rootfs file and deleting the old one... same thing happened. I can only get into Android on First boot any after that it gives me no bootfs.img in SD error ...
I'm having the same problem. I have tried restarting immediately after booting into linux without loading any apps and I have tried downloading apps. It will always boot correctly the first time and then it will freeze at Root.fs
One Solution I found is that when you go into the SD card and delete the Android folder it works again... so far there is no harm to anything yet, all you do is delete the android folder then restart haret file again and you are back into your android OS with everything saved the way you left it... must be something in the startup files in a lot of these builds. anyways if anyone knows how to fix it without deleting the android folder please let us know.

hmmmm.. why do you have to delete the Android folder?? what android build are you using?? where did you extract the Android build on your card?? is the haret.exe and clrcad.exe inside the same folder as the initrd.gz, rootfs.img, data.img etc??? one way to find out is make sure you extract the "Android" folder on the root of your microSD card.. also, make sure that there's no subfolder named "Android" inside the "Android" folder, as i know some build compresses the Android folder inside another android folder or sometimes inside the folder of the builds name.. also, copy and paste your startup here so we can see what folder is it looking for on your android build.. because, if you're getting the can't find the rootfs.img error, it means that it's searching for the wrong location or the haret.exe is not inside the android folder or in the same folder as your rootfs.img and initrd.gz etc..
Are u running directly off root? I think the builds you are running are expecting to run within an android directory off root?

The problem is very easy. When you have the USB cable connected on an active connection to the PC, most WM-roms will not show the storage card on the phone itself. Try a normal powersource, not a computer, and it should work just fine.
Right now i was looking for a plugin/hack so the storage card stays visible even though there is a computer-connection. I know some roms do this, but can't find the individual files to do so.

[Q] complete novice having problems... sorry!

hi all,
first of all, sorry for my lack of knowledge..
im trying to get an android build working on my hd2, ive hard spl'd, and updated the radio too one everyone seems to say works fine, copy the decompressed files on to the memory card root, labeled android (two sub folders labeled data1024 and data512) run clrcad and then harat, some tiny text appears, its then changes to a black background with htc written on in green. it stays on this screen indefinitely..
I presume im doing something wrong.. ive checked another memory card, reformatted etc but no change, Im hoping not to need to task 29 it.

You need to move one of the data files into the android folder then delete the 2 folders - try that.
thanks for the reply, still is stopping at the boot stage... am I going to need to flash a new rom? thanks!

You are aware that files are to be copied to a folder, in general called android, and not to the root of your SD card?

first check the SD builds forum - easier as no flashing required, then pick one (e.g. ACA my personal favorite), read the installation instructions (usually just create Android folder on your SD card, then copy the build there), then run using any file manager clrcad.exe and haret.exe which are the android folder, wait for 10-30 minutes until 1st boot is finished, and done

links are marked by brownish font by default, check my previous post,
as for SPL, HSPL etc., you don't need to bother as long as you run Android from SD, that's the beauty of SD builds, enjoy full functionality of android, without the hassle and risk of bricking your device
some general FAQs here and here, but if you want to start fast, you can read those later, installing an SD build is safe

what's more to know for the start?
- no need to reinstall from now on, it's just that for now your device will always restart to WinMo, however: find yourself so called "android loader" to automate android loading, there's few of those to choose from, e.g. Android Loader v6.0
- connect android with your google account so your contacts and emails are synced (Settings / Accounts etc...)
- install Battery Monitor Widget, so you always know how much mA your device uses and how much battery is left,
- also search xda for tips on conserving battery power (e.g. disable 3G if not needed, switch off GPS, tweak backlight autobrightness in CM Settings etc.)
- be aware that for now the USB file transfer does not work, to copy files to your HD2 use WinMo or Card Reader or File Expert
- backup often: 1. invest in Titanium Backup, 2. from time to time copy data.img to your PC
- browse through the ACA FAQ and thread (I know it may be hard to read all 14995 messages at once)

All apps are installed on your card, the whole idea of an SD build is that WinMo still sits in ROM, while Android basically consists of two files (sitting in the SD\Android folder) which are mounted at the start: system.ext2 (all system files and apps) and data.img (all user apps and settings). From user point of view you won't notice the difference. Additionally, once you run out of space in your data.img, you can always resize it, there are tools for that, but lets put it aside for now

all links are in my previous post, click on the brown text "Android Loader v6.0" to open,
installation is standard for WinMo: while in Windows Mobile, copy the .cab file to your SD Card and run from within any file manager, then it will guide you, also when in doubt search its thread for more info
i have downloaded it there is no cab file when i extract it from the zip folder.
