Hmm... just you 2?
When I get home I will investigate for you. Weird tho. Just checking but you both have desires? And bootanimation is in /data/local?
Stupid questions, I know but have to check these things.
EDIT: Ok, I have downloaded the file, and can confirm it works and works well, the file structure is unchanged and the bootanimation works absolutely fine on my and my cousins device..
So im not really sure what to advise??, You both have root?, I know tell me how you are both installing these animations? (exactly please).

Thanks for testing, i have root with DeFrost 9b. I have to put the bootanimations in 2 directories before they will work(/data/local, /system/media)
The thing is, when i boot my Desire, it first shows me the default white screen with the green htc letters. This takes about 5 till 10 seconds before the bootanimation jumps in.
So my guess is that the bootanimation could work if there's some way to remove the green/white htc logo from my phone.

Any chance you could do a version of the Matrix one without the green "loading" text? IMHO it is completely ruined by that.

Ok, then i still have no idea why it doesn't work here.
Is it possible to create one without the beating of apple, and only the one pissing on it?
I really appreciate that if you can.

Ha, was thinking exactly the same thing, I wanted only the peeing on apple loop, not the beating ... so here it is =)

Hi guys!
Have followed the guide in this forum and now i have defrost 9b.
Trying to get a bootanimation replacement, copied the file bootanimation.zip to the root of the device and followed the guide that states:
How to change boot animation
You need to have HTC Sync installed
Copy bootanimation.zip to SD Card
Turn off Desire and then turn it on while holding back button to enter bootloader(white screen)
Once in "white screen" press power button again to enter bootloader
Connect Desire with PC
Press Volume Down and than Power to enter Recovery
Open Command prompt/Terminal and type
Code:
adb shell mount /system
adb push C:\bootanimation.zip /data/local
adb reboot
Unplug your HTC and enjoy your new boot animation
"adb shell mount /system" does not work....
What am i doing wrong?!?
Appologies for my nubiness.

I am not saying it's not working....just the animation where the android pissing is not showing??
Anyway, for your question, yes, I have root, and I am running Amer Bravo V3. I am using the r5 method. And yes I am using Desire just like stated in my signature.

Lock screen

Does anyone know a way to get the regular lock screen instead of the Sense lock screen? There are pay apps out there for it, but I want to know if there are ways of doing it other then that.

+10 to that, I am looking whole day for this,
I would like to remind people that I've tried almost all of the methots out there and they don't work!!!!....some of them just result in bootloops.
I hope someone can give us a working update.zip or a terminal emulator command
The command:
su
# mount -oremount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
# rm system/app/HtcLockScreen.apk
.....is also not working.
It says that there directory is not empty???
So please a little bit of help
Ps. Lockbot pro sucks, it's not the real N1 lockscreen. When you charge the phone you can't see batt percentage.
im looking for a functioning N1 lock screen as well, looked into lockbot pro but decided against getting it for those very same reasons.
anyone know if this would be possible without having a rooted phone? i'd root my phone but im new to this whole android business and scared of bricking it.
@ Hodgy rooting isn't that difficult..... especially if your phone is not branded...
I believe there is also a vid tut out there
cool, well mines t-mobile branded slightly but i doubt that will be a massive problem, will have to sit down one day and try wrap my head around it will have to look out for a vid aswell.

BTW the lockbot is cool. I tried it but it kills the one feature that i love in the desire rom. When you unlock it does not show the fancy weather across the screen.
I really want to make the stock lockscreen work. I mean it kinda is lol but not the way i want it. Maybe some1 can help us here. It seems not many devs care about the sense ui rom around this forum.

Download the vanilla lock screen and push it to your phone. The file is just services.jar which goes to /system/framework/ after you've pushed it go back to /system/apps/ and delete the htclockscreen.apk and reboot.
Just apply this update zip through recovery and then the Vanilla lock screen replaces the sense one.

Change the z to p above
Credits go to flipz for the hero fix.
It works fine with Desire, just tested it myself.
Just make sure you use the stock clock and not the HTC clock for setting alarms...or you won't be able to turn them off.

How does this work with the music player? If have some music playing, do the controls show up on the lockscreen, or do I have to unlock it in order to pause/change track/whatever?

Yes, its in my post and also 7pellc's?
When i apply this zip file via recovery and then reboot, it shows it as what you referred to as the "broken" display. To get it to appear as normal, i take it i have to first run the commands via adb then?
Edit: from my understanding, i am to first install the zip via recovery, reboot, and then remove the htclockscreen.apk while running adb?
Thanks for your reply btw.
Another Edit: I think the reason for why this is not working for me is because the custom ROM i'm running from Paul includes an Odexed apps folder. When I do an ls in system/app, I cannot locate an htclockscreen.apk file to delete. But, when I do an ls in system/framework, it lists a htclockscreen.odex file.
Could this be the issue why the zip file is not working for me and all I get is the broken lockscreen? I have already contacted another member about this and he thinks this could be the problem.

I'm not to sure about the music player, haven't tried it myself. Im guessing that you'll have to open the lock screen then disable the music but it might work. With regards to the oxidised files, yes that could be the problem. However no you don't need to run any adb commands, just flash the zip and it'll replace the old lockscreen. Try payes Rom or mcr 3, there both de odex ed

Well if you really want it badly, just start searching for it. Maybe Samsung does it differently. I would look for any .gif file or any zip file that might be it. I plan on doing this myself when I get the phone up and running.

Yes, I've noticed this before as well. The png+ogg are effectively the boot animation in frame by frame format with the sound. Pity Soraxd couldn't even put two and two together and notice this.
In an effort to get rid of the boot animations entirely, I've moved/backed up all files and folders that appear to be relating to the boot animations and sounds.
Looks good up to a point - shutdown animation and sound is completely gone, startup video is also gone, but no matter what I do, I can't seem to get rid of the startup sound. I can't find any audio files that correlate with the sound that plays...
Any ideas?

Really? I would think the sounds would be in the same folder as the images, strange.
What folders did you backup?
I've found the power on sound, now I have no animation/sound at startup or shutdown (still get the Galaxy S initial bootup screen). Looks like deleting the shutdown video (or rather collection of .pngs) stops the audio from being played as well, though I've deleted shutdown.ogg as I don't need it anymore.
Startup sound;
/system/etc/PowerOn.wav
Startup animation;
/system/media/bootsamsung.qmg
/system/media/bootsamsungloop.qmg
Shutdown sound;
/system/media/audio/ui/shutdown.ogg
Shutdown video (directory of .pngs);
/system/media/shutdown/
What the heck is a qmg file? I would like to try to replace the boot screen, but I don't know of a program that saves in qmg format. Replacing the shutdown screen should be easy.
Thanks Squid for showing the folders.
There are certain files here too:
/system/bin
bootanimation 22.57kb
bootaniamtion2nd 22.59kb
when I ask for details using Astro File Manager, it does not give any extension, just the Permissions and MD5...
No idea what these are...
Wait I think they are script files?! :S
I didn't mention those because they appeared not to have any effect on the actual bootup, so i just left them in there.
i manage to change the shutdown animations
download For NewerROMs like VillainROM.zip
unzip For NewerROMs like VillainROM
go into /system/customize/resource
unzip bootanimation.zip
there is part0 and part1
see which animation u guy want change the file name to shutdown_0,shutdown_1................
use adb pull /system/media/video/shutdown c:/
open the shutdown delete all then file expect shutdown.cfg
copy the rename file into it
use adb push c:/shutdown /system/media/video/shutdown
what... ?! Did not understand... I thought VillainROM was for HTC phones...

It is, VillainRom is a rom for the gsm htc hero, the boot files however are just png's coupled with a config file that tells android how many fps it should play the animation at, the Samsung shutdown animation works pretty much the same way, so tom72022 simply replaced the shutdown png's with the bootup png's which resulted in a custom shutdown animation. Its pretty logical when you think about it, However in my opinion its pretty pointless to use a boot animation as a shutdown animation, and to be honest I can't see the point of a custom bootscreen on the galaxy s, even if we manage to replace the bootscreen what would be the point? the phone boots so fast that we would't see much of the animation anyway.

[MOD] Custom Boot Screen (for Gingerbread ROM's)

Well I had been getting asked a lot lately about the GB ROM's and my original boot screen packages that I had created where I modified a param.lfs to contain no boot image and allowed a script to place whatever image you wanted in it's place for a custom boot logo. In the past I had edited the param.lfs for the AT&T i897 bootloaders which does not work with the GB boot loaders.
This is not the boot animation, nor the kernel logo, but the first logo your phone displays when it's turned on.
Anyhow, I re-wrote the param.lfs to allow a blank for the logo.jpg that Gingerbread calls upon in the bootloader and it works great. So for all of you that used my boot screen package in the past for i897, i9000 and t959 2.1, 2.2 and 2.2.1 ROM's, here it is again for 2.3+ ROM's.
This should also work fine for Vibrant but I will check in case any T959 people are scoping this out.
These will not be compatible with CM7 (due to the proprietary fs used on param.lfs)...
Big thanks to TRusselo for being a BETA tester, tossing in the latest ODIN package and writing the readme as well as contributing the JPEG's offered in the package. I decided to keep the Canadian boot screens for you northern neighbors on the Roger's network up there...
Donations are always welcome but not required, press THANKS, follow me on Twitter or like my cause on FaceBook.

Done, soft-bricked (Odin failed) but got back into DL mode and re-flashed. I've got the i896 logo up there now.
Thanks a lot!
yeah odin sometimes does that... the newer odin does that LESS.. lol.
i soft bricked a few times using this.
just keep forcing the params until it passes, no need to go back to stock!
with GB button combos, and the soft brick, i found:
Vol Down + USB = Download mode
Vol Down + Pwr = Soft brick screen.
hope that helps.
Just an fyi to anyone not familiar with it, but you will have to make sure you have your screen active when running the batch file so that you can click Allow to the superuser permission request when it attempts to mount the partition.
This wasn't noted in the readme, someone without much experience might miss it.
Just a question but why are there some screens with "AM HUNG" as the name and not Samsung?

Have you rebooted the PC? ADB is known to get stuck sometimes. Also retry the process but make sure to close all the adb.exe processes using task manager.

OK I restarted the comp and made sure their were no adb processes running and still your tool does not work it says killing all adb processes and then says adb is not recognized as an internal command. I know adb works because I used cmd:adb devices and it showed my phone. So what is the deal with this program? I am on 7 but I used run as administrator so it should work.

watch the boot animation here: normal and with dots{WVGA}
{QVGA}:
it plays just like windows phone7 but repeats it over and over..
its for hdpi and ldpi devices...
for wvga screens: 1. normal: View attachment bootanimation2.zip
2. with dots: http://db.tt/NHDJong
for qvga screens: View attachment 655882
how to apply?:::::
option1: place it to data/local via root explorer and give all permissions(if s-off) and reboot
option 2: place to data/local via adb:
Installing custom boot animations (Credit to jcase from XDA):
Windows:
1.) Download the desired animation, rename the zip file to "bootanimation" and move into your Android SDK/Tools folder.
2.) Run the following adb command to push the animation into the proper place:
Code:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/
3.) Enjoy!
Mac: (Thanks to Pitamakan)
1. Open a Terminal window, and run the following command. (This is assuming you installed the SDK in your Applications folder.) Replace "username" with the correct user name for your machine:
/Users/username/Applications/android-sdk-mac_86/tools/adb
You should get a screenful of command syntax in response, which will confirm to you that adb is running and ready to go.
2. Put the bootanimation.zip file into the same folder that contains the adb file, and then run the following, again changing the username as needed.
Code:
/Users/username/Applications/android-sdk-mac_86/tools/adb push /Users/username/Applications/android-sdk-mac_86/tools/bootanimation.zip /data/local/
And that should do it!
---------------------------------------------
Reverting back to default boot animation
1.) Open an ADB Shell using:
Code:
adb shell
2.) Remove bootanimation.zip from /data/local using:
Code:
rm /data/local/bootanimation.zip
3.) On next boot you'll have the red VZW animation back.
loving it... its great..
was expecting it since months....
and its here.........
it would be nice to see for mdpi also
how about this???? (watch the dots below)
Why the f* would anyone want that? I had to doublecheck the top of my browser to make sure it DID say "Android".

its about customizability...
i am proud of android that i can make it look like iphone, htc sense, wp7 whatever i want.....

Agreed. I don't get it. That's like buying a Jaguar and putting a VW emblem on it instead. Weird.

No, that's like buying an Escalade and putting spinners and subs in it. Still the same phone, just customized for what people want. WP7 has a fantastic UI in my opinion and many others' so a lot of people like to have things that are like it.
Why are you guys complaining anyways, if you like it then download it and use it, if not then don't and don't waste the thread with posts *****ing about it. Nobody is making you use it.

Thank you very much!! It totally fits with my WP7 style ROM for my LG Optimus Black.
Gosh damn I love this.

Agreed... But a phone with with WP7's UI and Android functionality would be beyond words.

The time looking for it.
Finally WP7 interface with more functionality from Android
Thanks man!
I've made some corrections in bootanimation file (with dots) - now there is looping of dots: "Windows Phone" appears once, and after this moving only dots.
Here is download link: http://goo.gl/VPnjH
Sorry for my bad english
screw the haters i think its great!
I haven't delved into boot animations yet, so forgive me if this question is noobish... would it be very difficult to take one of your boot animations, decompile, modify, and recompile to work on mdpi? I'm not asking you to do it, but just if it's possible to do with an already created animation. Thanks.
*Great work. btw

A bootanimation is not an apk. It's just a zip with images, so you can't decompile, just extract and resize the pics.
I'm not saying you are allowed (that's not my word), but you can do it as easy as that.
@abhi0n0nakul would you mind if I include the qvga in my next theme? Giving proper credit your work & a link to the thread here?
Thanks for your consideration

[BOOT ANIMATION] CyanogenMod 9 CM9 for MDPI devices...
Works on Optimus One...
Taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510557
Just changed a small line in the desc.txt... Tried downscaling images, but didn't work out... So left the images at 360x640 resolution...
All credit to original creators...
EDIT: Updated Boot Animation to show 320x569 pixels... Since we cannot see more than 320x480 pixels, some of the top and bottom part of the boot animation gets cut off... But still looks good enough...

Just changed a small line in the desc.txt... Tried downscaling images, but didn't work out... So left the images at 360x640 resolution... Looks slightly egg-shaped... I don't really know how to make boot animations...
I hope someone can improve over this bootanimation though...

Android Logo went off center... Would it be possible to readjust the boot animation images so that Android remains at the center of the screen, instead of being at the top?
Also, your boot animation ends a lot more quickly, before the phone gets enough time to boot up. The older boot animation I had posted lasts a lot longer, until phone boots completely... I don't know how it all is supposed to work...
When I try to install it from ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0, the installation has aborted. What's the problem?

The problem is that you have to put it in system/media trough a file manager(like root explorer or es file explorer) and then change the permissions to rw-r--r-- (as said in the first post....)

It's just because the one who made the boot animation didn't make the part which makes the boot animation loop.
Now I'm making one with centered android logo (partly) and loop. Stay tuned. But anyway, I'd like to thank those who brought this awesome animation to P500

cm9 boot image
I instaled it and looks awesome
It looks great, although on "weaker" devices is not so smooth, but it is still great tho.

I haven't the video folder xD I tried to uninstall some system apps and now the free space is of 8 Mb. The bootanimation is only 3Mb, but root explorer advises me that there isn't enough space still.
EDIT: I've the Beta 3 still.

Guys, if you are on CM7, just place the bootanimation on data/local folder. No need to replace the original one from system/media.
