Im not sure about everyone else but I believe in Froyo. I beleive that when the official versions of Froyo and Flash are released that they will shoot Android to heights never before conceived. But all this negative publicity and "froyo is slow" threads on the UNofficial version of 2.2 is making me rather angry. Because people are stupid, (especially non tech savy people) I have bad feeling that anything negative said about this unofficial Froyo may taint the views of the official Froyo before it i even released.
So my fine friends here at XDA, what do we say about calling it somthing else help distinguish if from the official fixed version of froyo. Perhaps we could call it "Yoplait" because as we all know frozen yogurt is always better then regular yogurt. Except to Micheal Weston.

shuld be saved for the official release - if it turns out to be applicable.
On the other hand, identifying "issues" now, may be beneficial in allowing Google to see and fix them. Preventing them from being in OS2.2 when it is released.
Fear Not - people will judge the end product, whenever it actually eventuates.
Even though what is out there is not actually a hacked version, I have taken to calling it froyohack as a way to remind myself that it is not the real deal.

Not many tech-savy people are running Froyo, but how many people look up things and if they stumble upon XDA and see 10 or 20 "froyo is slow" threads they may get a bad taste in their mouth.

Haha! Nice! Especially the "I can't believe it's not FroYo".
My opinion, it's still a Froyo build, so there's nothing wrong with referring to it as such. Windows 7 beta was still windows 7. People still called it Windows 7. Tech savvy people called it by it's build number. We could just call this build off Froyo FRF50. . .many already are.

100% agreed.
Actually I'm sure people will stop calling it Froyo and just call it 2.2 when it's officially released. People soon dropped the name Donut when 1.6 was officially out. Similar thing happened with Eclair. I'm fairly certain the Froyo name will be dropped soon enough in favour for 2.2 after official release.
All I know is that right when this test build was released I flashed it to my phone and haven't looked back once.

Uh, why?
Whether Google adds more features or changes anything in the official 2.2 update or not, you can be guaranteed that the leaked version *IS* at least 90-95% (or even 100% of what the real version will be.
Are you expecting that the official version will be dramatically different or something?
It is froyo, FRF50 build. It's just an early build.

Right, I think (or hope) that there will be enough difference from 2.2 leak vs 2.2 official that it will be very distinguishable, but still similar to where its not 3.0 yet.

2.0.1 and 2.1 are both eclair.
That's the point.
I've said before that the release will be a diferent build number, but they see both already "froyo" builds. The changes that are coming are behind the scene things anyways, you will hardly notice them.

Thank you for the update. It is appreciated. This definitely deserved a new thread.
Some of us are looking forward to 2.1 roms without random audio problems, etc. The official Sprint release will instantly mean an enormous number of fixes for the roms that everyone here uses (nearly all of which were based on the Sprint leak anyway). So we most certainly do not "already have 2.1 and all the goodies we need" from my perspective.

Agreed. Even the most stable of the 2.1 ROMs based on the Sprint leak, are still pretty buggy. In my opinion, the leak that all of our ROMs are based on is nowhere near final code. I will honestly be happy to have a stock, fully functional ROM with some minor speed tweaks. To date, I still think Gumbo 1.5c was the best Hero ROM, I just can't bring myself to go back to 1.5. I just love some of the 2.1 features and apps too much.
Getting kinda hard to believe that they were this close to releasing the consumer version of 2.2- and still no dice. With this kind of delay I really hope they have added a few surprises. With that being said, my only change would be to allow custom colors of the notification bar (hint, black) and custom color track ball colors. With these improvements I would have no reason to root....
Peace.
I changed maybe a dozen lines in my build.prop and this thing might as well be final. My phone is faster, more stable, and has more features than with the "current" official build. I'm content to sit tight and recommend you do the same

Google has stated that hey are working quite hard on Froyo, and making sure all the kinks are ironed out before the official release. I read this in my news reader, and therefore do not feel like going back to grab it. Rest assured, they are actually trying.

I cant believe how so many people are impatient for 2.2. It's not owed to you. It releases whenever it releases. If it does not, oh well, you still have a great phone. Getting a free 2.2 upgrade is just an added bonus on top of what you have.
For build.prop need root right? Debating going back after my swap put me on 2.1 again
The FRF50 build that was leak was barely put together.
In three weeks they have moved 19 new builds. FRF69 is the latest.
They were never "close to release".
In my opinion Google has LIFETIME immunity from complaints for being such a generous company and making Google Maps Navigation free...

I'd expect this kind of attitude from an iPhone user and not some one in the Android camp.
The Android platform is still young and needs to evolve a lot more, especially in UI refinement to become a mainstay mobile platform. Updating Android to 2.2 is not an 'added bonus', it's a necessary incremental evolution if Google is to compete with Apple, Palm/HP and RIM.

Yeah... answer to this question please.
Courtesy and respect go a long way. One other thing. Nothing you get from google is free. It charges for its services and the products you buy have those costs built in. Maps is not free, nav is not free, you pay for it every day every time you buy a product. There is no free cup of coffee. Ever. Corporations are in it to make money and nothing else. Google is not your friend, nothing they output sees the light of day unless they believe the profit is there. They fully plan on getting their pound of flesh and we owe them nothing. Anyone who thinks otherwise has yet to attain their 14th birthday.

Then nandroid, and go back to 2.1. 2.2 is obviously not official yet. It will be released soon though, and I have a feeling it will include a lot of hidden features. Perhaps they sent the current 2.2 as a BETA for people like us to test. We say "I like it, but I want ____ feature" and maybe they will add it in the official release. Who knows.
But don't complain about it.
JCopernicus, if there is such build as one past the current FRF50, then go ahead and point us in the direction? If you're lying, shut up and leave.

Any major difference between FRF50 and FRF72?
According to a head moderator at the CM forums (Source: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/8302-the-state-of-the-galaxy/page__view__findpost__p__85578, Team Douche has the same leak that Whiskey received. That means, CyanogenMod 6.1 progress will be accelerated and maybe we will get some Cyanfryoyo soon
TL;DR Version:
"As of last night teamwhiskey and teamdouche both got access to a 100% working tmo vibrant froyo leak. Expect much quicker progress now."
Yeah dont forget about Eugene373 also got it too. Im pretty sure it was Sombionix and Eugene373 who were the first ones to receive it. Just thought i include Eugene373 into your list because it seems like you forgot him.
I hope the stock rom is available soon. It certainly gives a little credence to the November 11th rumor if a official T-Mobile version leaked out.
At this point who cares about cm6? We got froyo thanks to eugene and sombionix. The way I see it the only reason were getting cm is because of them.

I didn't forget Eugene. I was just quoting what the CM forum moderator said. I wasn't sure if Eugene had that same leak or if he used some magic to get his GPS working. But, for the sake of giving Eugene some well deserved love:
CM has the same leak that Bionix and Eugene have

According to a post from Som (I believe, may have been Viral) on the TW forums, the agreement from their source was that his name stay out of it. I believe it's likely due to him being worried about his job, as he's probably a T-Mo employee. If that's the case then I can understand him wanting it to stay anonymous.

Like I said, I'm repeating the little I read and not adding any rumors too it. They are both saying 3-4x faster, fixing the IO problem before and showing 1255 quadrant bone stock, just rooted. Also thought I saw a mention of a POSSIBLE upload tonight.
I thought I remember reading that 2.2.1 ditches RFS for something else.
I'm Pretty certain their talking about android 2.2.1.
Sounds like changes to I/o for faster Vibrant's too.
Theyre saying touchwiz 2.2.1 which yeah it's just android 2.2.1 and just the corresponding touchwiz that skins it. And no, still RFS, they must be pretty firm on that, but they have optimized it, like I said 3-4x faster theyre saying it feels like. I'd like to think these guys have tried enough ROMs on their vibrants to know what 3-4x faster feels like, so I'm pretty confident this is great news.

so are leaks like this (or previous 2.2 leaks also) leaked from samsung or tmobile? I know we have all been blaming samsung for the delay in releasing 2.2 to us, so im wondering if samsung has released it to tmobile?
Basically, who is holding us up on the official update, Samsung or Tmobile? (or in other words, who to blame?)
either way, these developers are amazing. i would have thrown my phone in the toilet if it we not for the developers here at xda
looks like they are making some good progress
I think they just need to release whatever they have and stop teasing/hoarding it. This is supposed to be a community. It's actually quite ridiculous.

The leak is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865701
They're not hoarding or teasing, its not for the vibrant so it probably needs some massaging to get it fully working.

Actually this is NOT what eugene and barak are tweeting about. They are tweeting about JL4 for the Vibrant. As to where they got this leak, well eugene has been able to get hold of leaks before so this isn't really a surprise.
As to the charges of hoarding or teasing, I don't recall eugene or barak ever owing me anything or anyone holding a gun to my head to follow their tweets.
Looking forward to seeing this in firmware myself, and I'm sure we all will have the opportunity soon.
Ya here is a shot of it

Of course they don't owe use anything. But that's like someone discovering new firmware and choosing to talk about it rather than let everyone have a go at it. Wait, that's exactly what it is. No one else seems to have a problem with posting any new leaked firmware as soon as they discover them so why is this different?. The sooner it is posted, the sooner other devs can begin developing. That's the whole point of a community. Even if it is buggy I'm sure other devs are willing to sort it out for their releases.

They already released their source.. what has been done with that? Just because someone has something others don't,releasing it to the community guarantee's nothing. Eugene and Barak do plenty for this community, even when they are being harassed about it which is not cool.
Ok, based on a few suggestions, I am starting this thread as an Android 2.2 rumor thread for the Epic 4G. This is to be the ONLY thread complaining, whining, commenting, or asking about 2.2 on the Epic! Report all other threads about 2.2 rumors on the Epic and I'll merge them into this one. Also, repeat offenders who make more then one new thread about 2.2 outside this one will be infracted/and or banned for trolling. Thank you for your cooperation, and happy posting

Woo! More unsubstantiated rumors.
With each failed attempt at guessing a release date, our chances of being correct on the next guess improve, right guys? Guys?
So EA17 means that it was completed on the 17th of January. So either they are clueless how to release this OTA without bricking devices or they are really testing the **** out of this one then. I hope its the latter case.
I feel like Charlie Brown going to kick the football. Surely Lucy won't pull it away again this time...
I think this one will actually be the one, theres already proof with that picture. Now Now, I know that it can be edited, but still, it seems like this date will be the one we were actually waiting for.
I just don't get it.
EA17... so it's already done.
It's not out because it's being tested.
So why is there a release date?
- If they know it's fine, it should be out already.
- If they expect it to fail, then how do they know it will be ready by a certain date?
If I had my way a lot would be different... but I don't understand how/why the final release will not be a build dated maybe a week before the actual release date, a date we will not know until it happens.

It makes perfect sense. They are going to test whatever they release for a while to make sure its polished. The rumor that AC received was probably that IF they dont find any major bugs in this version, it will be released on the 21st.
If they are so sure it's fine, they should release it now...
And if they DO find an issue, they'll disappoint everyone AGAIN.
This is nothing more than predicting the future, and they've been doing it poorly for 6mos now, why does Sprint think they'll get it right this time?
Releasing it at such-and-such date assuming all's well is what they have been doing since August.

Sprint isn't leaking the rumors. It's individuals that work for Sprint who want to give us an idea of when we might expect it (then they find some bugs)... or just douchebags that want to throw out rumors for laughs. Again, Sprint doesn't say when they are releasing updates because that makes them look worse if it's buggy or they don't follow through.

I am running 2.2, it has some issues, but works remarkably well. No FC's, and only slight screen rotation lag. So I can wait for Froyo... I am willing to wait because I want them to fix any and all bugs... Whether that be GPS, keyboard misses, screen rotation, whatever..
I am not a Sprint Lacky, have no stock in the company, but how people can get so emotionally attached to a software upgrade is beyond me. I can only imagine what people will be saying if they released a rushed buggy version.
Those of us that flashed the FroYo DK28 will still get this OTA if/when it comes out, right?
Still getting used to this phone. The Nexus One I used to have was a lot different.
I'd be happy with a new leak that's better than DK28 instead of "release dates" for froyo.

Not exactly. You will have to flash stock DI18 for the OTA to come through and install. But I recommend waiting for our dev teams to get hold of it first to tweak it.
