Google Latitude? confused. - Hero CDMA General

My friends and I were messing around with it today and its pretty good. But, it doesnt give you an exact address of where your friends are. It just says a general area and close to that area. I even hit give directions to " X friend " and nothing.
We both have location services on and have the privacy turned off. So its an automatic detect. I have a hero and others have the moment..
Any idea on why it doesnt give me an exact address?

GPS problems in winmo and android 1.5

With a previous version I had I could get gps to work in both. I have had to have that phone replaced and I went back to 1.5 because I need gps. I couldn't get it to work. Rebooted into winmo and can't get it to work.
I've tried changing the gps setting from 2 to 4.
I've tried a cab file I found and ran ppsd/ppst can't remember.
I've installed the SPCS_Internet&GPS_FIX.cab which has previously worked for me, and I still can't get any gps lock on.
I've tried with google maps and with the microsoft app that comes with winmo 6.1. I'm running winmo 6.1 stock.
Tech support told me to use sprint navagation, but I'm not paying for that.
Any other ideas? Should I take it back to the store as defective? Would a hard reset make a difference?
Thank you
In winmo try setting the GPS mode to 0 and the Enable AGPS and Smartmode settings to off.
This will ensure that the GPS is only looking at sats for position info and not using the cell network at all.
Then put the phone somewhere it should easily be able to get a lock, turn on Bing or Google maps or another GPS viewer and let it sit for at least 20 minutes.
You should be able to get a lock if the GPS chip is working.
Thank you for the info.
I know the enable agps setting, I'm not sure what the smartmode setting is. GPS mode is the one that is normally set to 2 that I changed 4 right?
I'll give it a shot. Shouldn't google maps be able to use agps or cellular connection to give me a rough idea of my location? I haven't even been able to get that much.
Yes, in theory it can, but if your phone is epxecting to see correction data from those sources and it is not there, you won't be able to get a fix even if the GPS is working just fine. By doing this we can see if the raw GPS is working first.
Thank you. I made the changes you suggested with no luck with either livesearch or google maps. GPS just keeps timing out saying weak signal or such. I am in a wide open space with nothing taller than trees around. So hard reset my phone yet again, and tried finding gps on the drive to the store, no luck.
I went to the nearest repair center which is 40-50 miles away from me. Took almost 30 minutes to see someone. I told her I couldn't get my gps to work and want the tech to look at it. She takes my phone, doesn't sign me in, doesn't scan the phone or anything and just starts messing with it. Asks for my last name and email address. I give it to her, she enters it into my phone so I ask her why. Said she was signing me into Sprint Navigation. I tell her I don't use that, I use Google Maps or Livesearch. She says oh and brings up live search. Of course the map comes up as data works. She sits there playing with it, ask her what she's doing. She tells me it works because she can search for places. At this piont I'm ticked off she wouldn't do as I asked and is just screwing around playing with my phone. She says it works it's showing where we are. It did not have the number of sattalites connected, didn't say searching for location or anything, GPS was not on. I point this out to her and she keeps playing with it. I tell her I have to get going because I have an appointment and leave before I really have it out in the store. Left the store and looked, I'm into the Sprint Navagation so I try getting it to lock on to gps on the way home. It wouldn't lock either with weak gps message. Got home, went to the same open spot and tried again, still nothing. Hoping I'm not charged for using Sprint Navigation.
So a 40-50 mile trip for that, I'm ticked.
So anything else I can do? This is my third vogue with gps problems.
Just got off an hour long talk to Tech Support. Lady asked how much phone signal I got. 2 bars of EVDO. She said maybe you just don't have enough signal for gps.
Am I missing something here? I swore the gps chip could work independently of having signal. I can surf the web and all at decent speed but not enough signal for GPS? Told me she couldn't do anything, would have to go to a repair store (knowing I already had) or sign another contract and buy a new device. Also said I wasn't eligible for my $150 upgrade until the 11th but thats the end of my contract, I've been eligible for weeks at least.
I'm not sure if I should call tech support again, knowing they can't do anything, or retentions.
edit:
Called Tech Support again, guy said the previous woman was wrong about the gps. Asked to go to account services. They said they couldn't do anything for me but upgrade me. I said no way. They then told me to go to a sprint store then. bah.
Went back to the store and had the tech look at it. He said that the gps was only getting to 40% and then stopping. Ordered me another refurb Touch. I'd think they'd give me something else by now, I mean if Touch Pro people are getting the TP2 for phone issues.

Weather not updating.

About a week ago, the weather application stopped updating.
As it has always been, when going back to the home screen
my signal would go from 3G to H and update.
Now, the only way I can get an update is thru wi-fi.
No settings that I am aware of have been changed or altered
to cause this to happen.
Has this happened to anyone else?....btw my phone is Tmobile US.
Would appreciate any feedback and, moderators if that has been
covered before I do apoligize. Did search but, nothing relevant to
this particular problem.
How ironic?
You live in Lewisville, TX? I used to live there, went to high school there actually... but anyway, I posted about this EXACT same topic in the T-Mobile USA section for the HD2. Literally, our situations are identical. I am experiencing the same issue.
I cannot believe that I am not the only one.
Then again, I did find quite a few similar posts to ours on the official T-Mobile forums.
As far as a solution goes... your guess is just as good as mine is. I have no idea how to go about resolving this lame-ass problem.
Yeah, kind of really getting me down. Not getting the weather
update isn't the end of the world but, it's one of the phone's
main draws to me.
happens to me once in a while...
dunno what causes it, but if i go to:
Settings > All settings > Connections > Connection Setup
and go through that process, it all seems to work fine again...
I'm actually fed up with the weather location i use weather city editor now to add my town manually as the feature doesn't even work in my town, on Saturday i left my town and tried out the weather location and it told me i was in united kingdom, yeah no sh^t sherlock lol

Help! Lost my phone - Stolen

EDIT: Phone was definitely stolen.
What (if anything) can I do to try to track it? Didn't have any apps installed for something like this
also, is there a way to access my SMS's that are coming in? Contacts are all stored in Gmail, so that's not an issue at least.
From your PC download "Plan B" by going to your account. As soon as the phone gets a signal it will install. You can track it remotely with another phone.
Sent From Rob's ATRIX.
I did do that...hopefully it will get on there but haven't received any email yet with a location. I am very interested how i can quickly send and view my SMS's
VERY IMPORTANT for work reasons.
There is also Cerberus which works excellently, but I don't know if it can be installed and activated remotely.
Sent From Rob's ATRIX.
You can set up AT&T "family track" on your phone and it will go into effect immediately so you can get an exact location of your phone (if it is on). Even if you don't have AT&T I'm sure that rogers and other phone companies offer something similar if not the same thing.
MOTOBLUR's "track my phone" might work? And if you can't get it back at least you can initiate a remote wipe as you seemed to hint that there is a security issue or something there.

what about getting to see the SMS's on the phone? gonna call ATT now.
So annoying

it's not the iPhone 5, is it...?
Honestly?..........Sorry to tell you but it's long gone if someone took it. Best bet you have is someone found it and is honest, but that doesn't happen often. Ignore the posts about installing apps..............you don't have your phone, not gonna happen!
Did you have it locked? If not you can't have been too worried about the security.
Call your carrier, have the phone logged as stolen, they will track it if it is turned on and active. They don't deactivate phones right away for this exact reason. If someone uses it they will try to track it through the numbers called on it.
If it has a stock ROM and you had a screen lock, your messages should be safe.
Your settings are tied to your Motoblur account.
Log into the Motoblur website and issue a remote wipe.
it was Neutrino Rom, pretty new install so not much private info on there...no screen lock or anything setup
I'm pretty sure you can install Lookout Security remotely to try and track it.
About checking the text messages, I think you're outta luck there. I've never heard of remotely checking texts, but hopefully I'm wrong for your sake.
So, I wasn't able to get any response from Plan B, but i installed ATT's Family map program and it is seeing the phone, which means at least I know it is still on.
What should i do?
I was about to give up and have it deactivated and turn on an old handset, but now that i have a general location on it i'm not sure what my next move should be

go get it?
If sound was on, start calling it in the vicinity with another phone.

sound was not on.....
The location looks like it's all commercial, i don't see houses or anything. So i am guessing the thief brought it to work with them?
also, it says it's only accurate to about 30 yards give or take. So if it was in a development or apartment building, kinda hard to key in on where exactly it is.
If, however the person with it lives in a bit more remote area, i MAY have a chance to narrow it down...but still hard to be certain and all

Then destroy target.
isn't there an app that can remotely turn sound up on the phone?
call the cops. you have the serial number and all that right? file a stolen property report and then tell them you've narrowed down the location of your phone using an app.

Lost my phone and Android Lost isn't working

Hey guys, I lost my phone 30 minutes ago and unfourtnately since I have never lost a phone in my life I didin't think I would loose one now. I don't have any "find my phone" installed on the phone so I went to the website http://www.androidlost.com and I pushed the app to my stolen phone and I also pushed the Jumpstart app. I also tried to send a message "androidlost register" to the phone, but nothing sems to work.
Android Lost doesn't register the phone. The first thing I did when I came home was to change my Google account password. If I'm correct, isn't that a misstake? Because now when the thief turns on the internet, the password is changed so he can't login to the account? Is this correct?
Does the phone have to have WiFi or mobile data enabled?
Since you changed the password I don't think pushing apps from the playstore will work anymore. Even if you change it back, the login link is broken and you'd need the device to log back in.

Lost or stolen? Lost, there's still hope. Someone might turn it in somewhere, there are still good people left in this world.
Stolen, probably goodbye. First thing he'd do would be to remove sim or turn off.
As far as i know androidlost will work if everything is turned on; if there's a data connection, if gps is activated, etc. I'll surely get corrected if not.
Changing the Google password will prompt to log in again, yes.
Sucks though mate.. :-\
The funny thing is, when I call it, it calls for the full duration, and also they haven't taken out the SIM card. I tried it with my moms Galaxy Nexus the exact way I did on my Nexus 4, but the only difference was she had internet connection on and it worked... What I fear the most is I changed my Google account password, Maybe it's not possible to retrieve the phone via androidlost because of this?

Im afraid el daddy's post is confirming exactly that..
Well if the phone is stolen the first thing they might do is take it to the nearest cell phone shop to get it wiped .. Or maybe you left it somewhere ... Retrace your steps...

Is there a way to like enable latitude on the web or something to remotely see the location of the device? or something like that? Because I'm pretty much screwed because I changed the password on my Google account, very very stupid of me, but I panicked
I know it's to late know, but next time you should try Cerberus app; best in line for tracking and remote controlling devices
Because of the WiFi bug it's affecting anti theft apps. The theft will need to switch the screen on before Google play will download the app you've pushed. But once that's done it is still hit and miss whether the web interface will be able to connect to the phone to track its location unless the screen is kept on. I know Cerberus and lookout can't.

i think call your phone and speak with the one who find it to return it back ..if it not works make a price for your stolen phone and buy it from the thief
Use this.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alienmanfc6.wheresmyandroidcupcake
Install it and text "wmd gps" to your phone.
If you don't have another phone, use this: http://textinghome.com/smsemail.php
It'll send the reply to your email. (put "wmd gps" in the subject box, and three random letters in the message box)
(I tested this one on my phone)
EDIT: ****. I just read that you changed your password. Big mistake. Try changing it back to what it was before, even though I doubt that would work.
As a last resort (when you accept it's gone for ever), report the IMEI number to your GSM provider and hope they blacklist it.

[Q] GPS and Google's Location Service on stock Kitkat 4.4.2 ROM

Every time I turn on the GPS through the notification panel I get a message asking me if I want to use Google's location service. No, I don't, I never have and I never will. However, if I tick the box that says "Don't show again", the "Disagree" option gets grayed out and I'm only left with the "Agree". Since I always disagree, every single time I turn on the GPS the same message pops again. This is annoying. Is there a way to bypass this? I'm getting the feeling that the Gestapo division of Google is trying to convince me to let them track my life by insisting so much that I get fed up with it and give up my privacy (willingly, of course). This might not seem much of a deal but if you use the GPS 3-4 times a day, it can become quite irritating. Thanks.
Anyone?
I would love to know myself as it's driving me nuts as well.
Tweaked rom fixes it so you can have it no show again.

TweakedN3 3.95 - UVUDNF9 - UPDATED 10/30/14
Thanks, but I'd rather stick to stock ROMs.
Google location service is in with the GPS hence it asking, it's annoying but that's how it works afaik.
