About a week ago, the weather application stopped updating.
As it has always been, when going back to the home screen
my signal would go from 3G to H and update.
Now, the only way I can get an update is thru wi-fi.
No settings that I am aware of have been changed or altered
to cause this to happen.
Has this happened to anyone else?....btw my phone is Tmobile US.
Would appreciate any feedback and, moderators if that has been
covered before I do apoligize. Did search but, nothing relevant to
this particular problem.
How ironic?
You live in Lewisville, TX? I used to live there, went to high school there actually... but anyway, I posted about this EXACT same topic in the T-Mobile USA section for the HD2. Literally, our situations are identical. I am experiencing the same issue.
I cannot believe that I am not the only one.
Then again, I did find quite a few similar posts to ours on the official T-Mobile forums.
As far as a solution goes... your guess is just as good as mine is. I have no idea how to go about resolving this lame-ass problem.
Yeah, kind of really getting me down. Not getting the weather
update isn't the end of the world but, it's one of the phone's
main draws to me.
happens to me once in a while...
dunno what causes it, but if i go to:
Settings > All settings > Connections > Connection Setup
and go through that process, it all seems to work fine again...
I'm actually fed up with the weather location i use weather city editor now to add my town manually as the feature doesn't even work in my town, on Saturday i left my town and tried out the weather location and it told me i was in united kingdom, yeah no sh^t sherlock lol

Afternoon guys, been reading this forum with great interest over the last weeks but first post.
I have to say overall I am mightily impressed with this phone and am the envy of most people that have seen it. The camera appears ok to me (slight pink tint) but nothing too drastic although i am keeping a very close eye on it.
My concern at the moment is with my location on the home screen regarding the weather. I live in Glasgow and all was working fine...I then went home the other day to Perth and the weather location changed to this...was quite impressed and no problems. Since returning to Glasgow yesterday afternoon it still says my location is Perth and will not change despite trying to update manually etc.
Anyone have any ideas as to how to rectify this problem?
Thanks guys and thanks for all useful tips etc on this forum, seems to be my most visited site of recent weeks.
I would like to know that too !!!
+1 because that location service really sucks. it tells me I'm in a town that is 20km from my actual location.

Not quite the same for me but have a similar issue in the my home screen location has failed to update since the first time. So now effectively useless!
What I have done however is add a new location (closest one I could find to my actual home). This can then be set as your home page weather by selecting the clock on the home page, and then selecting the newly defined "home location" as your home. (Sorry terminology might be out as I don't have my HD2 with me!!!???).
Hopefully there is a fix for this but a sort of work round in the meantime.......
Hope someone can find another solution soon !!!
kick up google maps use gps in the menu for google maps wait until it finds sats then click blue dot to get your home location.
leave it running (ie press home button) then goto weather and update
well it worked for me
I don't know if this is helpful or not - other than to just demonstrate that this is not a 'universal' bug, and perhaps to narrow down what I'm doing differently. But, I've been in about 1/2 dozen countries since I got my HD2, and it hasn't had any problem updating my location once. Each city I'm in, it changes without issues, and now that I'm back home, it's changed back to my home location as well.
I'm on the stock HD2 from HTC (unlocked), stock ROM, and I'm on Vodafone UK.
I have disabled HSDPA, but other than that, no other tweaks to mention.

Does that stay after soft reset ? Or do I have to go toGoogleMaps every time after it changes connection ?
it has only stayed on a different location once for me
i never needed to repeat
after i did the above it has switched reliably since
dunno why ?
i am on t - mobile if thats anything to do with it
Desn`t seem to do the trick ...
After soft reset it went back to another city .... STRANGE !
Have you tried soft resetting the device mate? Or adding Glasgow as a location, and then switching back to My Location.
Might help. On my X1, My Location thought I was in Torrance...wherever that is.
Not got any problems get, but I haven't left Glasgow since I got my phone. Will be travelling this weekend, so will see what it does ^^
Soft reset the device of course ... but that didn`t help ...

didn't work right now, somehow the weather-tab always shows me it's updating but when it stops the last update is still 2 days ago (date shown in the upper right corner of the weather tab). seems it's broken atm
This happens with me too, I have no clue how to fix it, so instead of creating a new thread, does anyone know how to actually GET RID off the weather on your home screen? I am over the excitement of knowing what the weather is like where I already am lol...
it updated the weather but the location is still wrong (around 20km off) and I can't add my location manually, the town is too small to be in the list. seem it just doesn't work for me, because the location service just sucks and doesn't really use gps.
Mine keeps changing the home location to any main location here in Bulgaria ... can`t figure it out !!! I`m in the biggest city and I still receive information of a city 400km away from my place , then from a city 130km from here .... and it keeps changing .... very strange !

I think you need to realise that not every single township, city, village, etc is available to Google for the weather location data.
For god sakes, I live in SOFIA , the capital of Bulgaria ....

Hi c0rp1, i also Live in Sofia and have another issue. My phone correct find my location but weather information is not correct. I think it's Espoo weather information.
Im not information how to resolve this issue. At the moment i add Sofia in Wetaher tab and switch it manualy every time when i make soft reset.
This is driving me crazy.
There is no rhyme or reason to it. It happens with any ROM, with any number of applications running and at any time. I can not pinpoint any specific activity that triggers it.
I'm on my eighth ROM at least and it is still happening, driving me crazy. Current ROM is Miri WM 6.5 21887, V 34.0, Radio is 1.17.25.09, SPL is 1.56.OliNex
My problem is this; I live in the Pacific Time Zone (GMT-8) For no apparent reason, after some time, my location for the clock only changes to Eastern Time Zone (GMT-5) My clock is then three hours off. I change the location settings under Time/Date back to the PST zone and it sticks for a short while but then later I check my time and BAM, it's back to thinking we're on the eastern seaboard.
If you have any idea what could be causing this please share with me. I've done hard resets up the yingyang, back to stock several times, etc. etc. Believe me, I've spent days and days trying everything I could think of.
Thank you so much if you can help me.
Just a thought: could this be related to the "My Location" feature ? I mean, if all the ROMs behave the same, it is, obviously, not a software problem and it cannot be a hardware problem. I'm thinking maybe the GSM towers, or maybe the IP address of your Internet connection are (erroneously) identified as being in the GMT-5 timezone. Try disabling My Location and all the services related to it (weather updates and stuff) and see if this happens again. I would really be interested to know if this will solve your problem, because I've had a discussion with someone concerning the My Location service and the possibility of such a problem occuring.
Hope to hear good news from ya !
I did try the location services on and off and it had no bearing on it. But, crazy as it is, it just stopped doing it after I posted this and has been good so far. I can't explain it. The only thing I changed in that time period was downgrading the radio so maybe that had something to do with it but I can't see how. I'm on 1.14.24.25 right now so I'm not going to mess with it.
Thanks for your suggestion, I should have mentioned that I did try deactivating the location services in my original post.
After applying the GPS fix I am having an odd issue. When I fist launch google maps it shows me in some small rural village in China. Once the GPS gets a fix it goes to where I am really am. This would not be a big deal except when I take pictures it Geotags the picture as being in this Chinese village which is kind of a pain. Also it screws up my weather widgets sometimes. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe it has to do with the server it is using to pull down the GPS data, but not sure.
I am having a similar issue, but not quite as drastic. Mine just simply shows me being the last place i was before GPS was turned on. Like right now, without GPS connected but using the towers to figure out my location, it shows me at the place i at lunch, about 3 miles away, rather than at work. Its VERY frustrating.
I'm having the same problem. My GPS shows me in a neighboring city that is 50 miles away, every time.
The best way to test this is to load the 'Maps' live wallpaper. It happens every time. Also, booting up the 'Maps' application will throw me into the other city for at least five minutes, before it realizes that the data is not correct.
It's a new "google fortune" feature. It's telling you you need to travel the world.
Same problem here, however, I was thinking it had more to do with the "Use Wireless Networks" not updating my location.
-If I have gps turned off and wireless network location on. My location doesn't update at all until I reboot the phone (although Latitude shows it as being updated within the last few minutes, even though it shows me somewhere I haven't been in hours and is 50miles away.)
-If I turn gps on, it will then get a fix and properly update my location.
I did apply the GPS fix.
lol mine switches between seattle and SPAIN! wtf.
I think it has to do something with the way samsung implements the gps receiver..a friend had a sammie moment..she would be right next to me..nyc...but her gps would say shes in havana, cuba..on good days..some place in estonia..lol...and now i see the issues being replicated here...i blame samsung...my old trusty g1 locks a signal and is very accurate within a min or 2..
Thanks for the info, sync3. That's starting to become my thought as well.
What a shame. I hope an official statement is released, either way.

This is the EXACT problem I am having. I dont know how to get it to update my location.
I have the same issue. I also had applied the GPS fix... I've tried reverting to stock settings, tried enabling skyhook and tried a few other things.
The only way I've been able to properly get my location is to turn off the network assist and tell the GPS to operate in standalone mode. It takes a heck of a lot longer for a fix, but it's accurate if it does get a lock. Doesn't work so well indoors though.
Who the heck were the field testers for this device? its full of more bugs than an entymologist's labratory.

That was one of the first things I tried. It didn't help.
My main concern is that this is unrelated to the GPS software issue and that this is actually a hardware issue. Does anyone agree or disagree with this?

I agree this is hardware related because others have reported exchanging their phones rids them of the GPS issues.. :-/
I work in Houston and sometimes while at work GPS says I'm in Pawcatuck, CT.
The question is when not using gps what function of the phone updates your location? Could it be a network issue? How do you force it to retrieve tower data that marks your location?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Well, i exchanged my phone last night because of this issue and the new one is doing the same thing. So either this is a problem inherent to this model (hopefully the software not telling the phone to refresh tower data) that can be fixed with an update or i am extremely unlucky.

Just had my 3rd call with TMobile- she now assured me that this is a software issue (which i made her mark in my account incase it winds up being hardware later) and that all phones with software # T959UVJFD have it. She said tmobile is working with samsung to fix. I told her all Galaxy S series, domestic and international, have GPS issue and samsung has yet to fix any. She said well that is something you need to consider.

Wow, very helpful information. How they get this fix released ASAP.
So has anyone had an issue with their HD2 Leo giving the wrong time? I was visiting family back in Richmond TX for the week and everytime I went to Richmond TX my phone would move up an hour and when I went to check the time it would say Eastern Time Zone. Im assuming it thinks im in Richmond VA. Does this everytime. THen when I would go back to my other home in Sugar Land TX it would move back the hour to the correct time.
Anyone has a wierd issue like this with your phone? I would figure only people possibly living in a city that has a name common in other states might have this issue. I was in another town called London while I was riding and my phone would think I was in London UK.
im in sugarland, and my phones time has been acting weird all week, maybe its due to my android install but its too strange that this could be a coincidence..
you have to set the phone to local time and you can do that by going to the alarm clock and selecting the world clock and then put the green dot on "my location" and then the phone will automatically adjust the time based upon where you are.
I'm having the same problem. It seemed to go wrong after I tried to install andriod. I have re flashed the stock ROM but the phone is still acting very strange as far as the time is concerned.... Help?
DST?
im in the UK, and we have juyst put the clocks back by an hour after British Summer Time has ended (DST) on sunday 31st October.
since then my HD2 has attempted to reset the time and keeps randomly changing it, yesterday is was showing as no longer on BST and still showing me an hour ahead, today it has randomly changed from 10:30 am to 1:30pm.
not quite sure what is going on with it, when ever i request carrier time it keeps reverting to 1 hour forward but not on BST.
hopefully it will reslove itself over time. if not looks like will have to turn off some of the location services and stick to manual city location within world clock.

You need this thread
The fix using reg edits seems to be the most effective one......
hope that helps.......
Hello,
I'm new here, so forgive me if this has been answered before. I did a search and couldn't find anything that helped with my issue, but maybe I just missed something.
I have a new HTC Surround, originally locked to Telus, but now unlocked and on the Rogers network.
Everything is working great except that the timestamp for incoming text messages is incorrect, and off by about 5 hours. The minutes in the timestamp is accurate, but the hours is off by 5 hours.
For instance, a message sent by me has a timestamp of 4:22p. The reply to that message comes in with a timestamp of 11:25a.
I've seen that this has been an issue for other HTC phones in the past, as well as possibly a problem with Rogers' network but I can't seem to find a fix. I was previously using a Sony x10 on Rogers (hated the phone) and never had this problem.
I sent a message to HTC customer support, but was hoping somebody here would be able to help me faster.
Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.
I had this issue with Bell Vibrant Galaxy S on the Fido as well, and had to use an app called SMS Timefix.
btw Wepeel, who did you use to get the phone unlocked? I'm still trying to find someone to do it for me. I'm in the Toronto GTA area.
Thanks for the input. I don't think there's an app yet for wp7 (at least nothing in the market). I got a response from HTC and they said it was a network problem. However, I've never had this problem on Rogers before. I've only had the Surround for 3 days, and the x10 I had before (for 2 months) never had this problem, and neither did my iphone.
I'm going to contact Rogers tomorrow and see what they have to say about it.
As far as unlocking, I won the phone from Breakfast Television and was given the unlock code directly from Telus. However, depending on where in Toronto you live, you should check out the Pacific Mall (Steeles/Kennedy in Markham) or craigslist.
The Pacific Mall is a great place to go to get anything unlocked, and its usually pretty cheap. There's also an ad on CL right now advertising unlocking for the Surround for $29 (which I find pretty expensive).
Hope that helps.
Same issue, same situation.
I have an unlocked TELUS surround on Rogers, and the timestamps on the TXT messages are -5 hours from the real time.. Obviously the phone is expecting the carrier to timestamp the messages in UTC and the phone is correcting.. there should be an OS tweak for this somewhere.
Oh, and MyNameIsWepeel;
If you think this is fun, wait until you search for something in the maps.. I searched for TELUS in maps hoping to find the local telus dealer and it came up with Telus, Russia. (It's a city apparently). It seems if your phone is configured for Canada (eveything under Region & Locale) the maps search doesn't work correctly. You need to set it up for US to get it to work.

The problem with that though, is the market will no longer download apps. Or at least it didn't for me. I changed my locale, which did help with searches in maps, but then I couldn't download any apps. I just kept getting error messages. Changing my locale back to Canada fixed it immediately.
I just changed my locale last night to all US, and I was still able to download apps. Albeit I got an error message occasionally, but then I just restarted the download and it all worked. I figured it was server related.

I'll have to check it out again, maybe it was just server problems. I'll admit I wasn't very patient with it.
On an unrelated topic, how are you guys finding the reception on the phone? I've noticed I'm getting slightly poorer reception in some areas that my x10 got great reception.
Well I'm not the best person to ask about reception... I'm coming from an iphone.
My major beef with this phone is the battery life; it's simply unacceptable. I always end up coming home with 20% or less... Either an aftermarket upgrade will need to show up to save the day or I'll be forced to switch phones.
Ive had similar battery problems, but it charges so fast it hasnt been an issue. I throw it on the car charger for 20 minutes and im good for the rest of the day. But back on topic.. i have a similar issue with text messages, except my time stamps are about 30-45 seconds slower which sometimes causes my device to send texts before one is received. its not a huge deal though, but still kind of odd.
Prior to this phone, I had an iPhone 3G, 3GS, Nexus One, and Samsung Galaxy S - all with the same carrier.
This phone has the best reception so far. On my home from work today I tested it out. There's always an area my bars go to zero and my calls drop. With this phone it was the first time I never dropped the call completely. In fact, the signal was completely strong. I'm happily surprised by this.
Well, I finally found out what was causing my reception problems. This phone, or mine anyway, has a very serious deathgrip issue. Any time I would hold the phone at the bottom (where the antenna is) or with both hands, I would lose at least 2-3 bars. A lot of the time I would completely lose signal. As soon as I moved my hand up to the top, right back to full bars.
And since you need to hold the phone at the bottom to text and talk, it pretty much made the phone useless to me.
So I sold my Surround (for $500) and I'm going to get something else.
