Unable to get ##778# menu after upgrade to 2.1 - Hero CDMA General

I notice that I am unable to get the ##778# menu after upgrade to stock Sprint 2.1 ROM (with the default dialer). I tried ##778 and call button also, which did not work either. Since others haven't mentioned about it I am not sure if it is happening for me only? I also notice that the menu for changing NAM is not seen in 2.1 - Is anyone else who upgraded to 2.1 also noticing it?
I am able to run other codes like ##786# and ##3282# which open fine but nothing happens for ##778#

##gps# (477) is also not working for me, nor is 778.
WHat exactly sort of functionality did this give you pre-2.1?

I want to change the NAM settings though the handset. In 1.5 there was an option to switch NAM in the Settings menu itself, which is missing now.

last time i checked... ##778# was for verizon phones... ##3282# should pull up the menu u r asking about. This is thru the stock HTC dialer of course.

Thanks but ##3282# does not have the NAM 1/2 switch option. Do you know any other way to achieve this through the handset?

Never thought I'd want to keep a branding but..

...it seems, if I use the Fit4Cat tweaker to turn off the skinning of the phone, the t-mobile dial pad goes back to being normal windows-look one, but the smartdial no longer works! If i choose the menu option, nothing happens and typing part of a number in doesnt do a contacts lookup. Does anyone know what went wrong?
I don't know the why's and where fores but I hear you on the ugly TMobile Dialpad.
I used one of THESE (the reptile_red one) to change thedial pad and I still have smart dial functionality.

Tips & Tricks

Thought this might be a good place to start listing any quick tips and tricks you might have discovered.
To Lock Device quickly
Keep finger on the Red (Call End) button and it will bring up some options including keylock.
Not sure if anyone's noticed this but when I end a call on my Dual there is annoying little delay of about 3 seconds before the actual call is ended so I searched the registry and found this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\PHONE\PhoneExtendSetting]
And I changed the value of EndCallTime from 3000 to 1000 re-booted and voila no more delays when ending calls
Hold the on/off button for soft reset.
Smart Dialing
This is an advertised feature but apparently not too many people are aware of it. Go to the phone app and start tapping the first couple of letters of the contacts name and the name matches will appear for you to choose from. I find this much easier than opening up the Contacts app and scrolling down to the name you need.
after pressing send for phoneapp u see last calls.
If u press left/right on the highlighted contact the phone switches through home/mobile/office...
HKLM\Software\HTC\Biotouch\Biotouch\ regulates the FPS of the cubeanimation.
Change "DownFPS", "LightFPS" und "UpFPS" to something higher for a smoother (and faster) animation.
Disable 3G, if not needed (it drains the battery faster than GSM):
Edit the registry key HKLM\Software\OEM\UMTS\OpMode and set it to "1"
Then also you could change that setting
Phone Settings --> Band --> Network Type --> GSM
To activate the changes, open the comm manager from the Cube, disable the phone and enable it again.
In italy with Vodafone I can't able to select also the Network Band GSM/UMTS to "GSM(900)" but I have to let it configured as "Auto" or "GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)"

Ello, new here.. no idea if this helps a few Dual owners but..
Apps found to work on the touch dual:
S2u2 (iphone slide to unlock app), works like a charm:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343256
HHC, HTC Home Customizer (name says it all), also working like a charm:
http://www.pocketemu.com/download4.html
gfreek, thnx for the EndCallTime key, works perfect and.. 1 less annoying feature to go
Things I'm still looking to solve:
1. Mp3 ringtone seems to fade out after picking up a call, for about 2/3 seconds the ringtone is still audible :S
2. Looking for settings for the Handsfree profile, i have an Lm959 bluetooth bracelet (how geeky, i know), works fine.. but only for calls, the device is capable of blinking the leds on receiving msgs, im looking for the settings to enable just that on the TD.
3. Polling frequency of the TD seems to be on the high side, f.e. it takes about 3 rings from someone before the TD starts "ringing", since voicemail kicks in @ ring 6 I miss a lot of calls.
I found a topic about just this problem with the touch(Elf) on sprint networks, with a quickcode (##7380# I think, well.. I'm not on sprint..so that doesnt work over here.. anyone with any clue would be welcome.. My current solution is disabling voicemail..)

to do this quicker go to settings => long press end key
and select automatically execute and then lock device
holding the red button then locks the device in one press
You can invoke s2u2 instead normal devicelock
just install s2u2, rename Slide2Unlock.exe to EndKey.exe and copy all files to windows directory, with resco explorer.
the ilock doesnt seem to be working on my touch dual. when i try to go to settings, the screen goes blank.
You need to disable directdraw, do it via the registry as you can't access the settings.

Go with Total Commander to:
\\registry\HKLM\Software\HTC\CommManager and change the key
"SupportedFunctions" from 4 to 5
then make a new map named "5" (without the quotes)
go to that map and make a STRING named "default" and the string must
be "3G" (also without any quotes).
Then turn the phone off and on again and there is a 3G setting in your CommManager. I did not manage yet to add a icon in front of it
(and also not tested the working of the new setting)
Thanks, someone also pointed me to Schaps' app that has that setting http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070

ah found it, at least for UK Orange people:
Please bear in mind that the following code is only valid for phones on the Orange UK network.
The code to set the length of time your phone rings is:
**61*07973100123*11*??#
Where ?? is the time in seconds, e.g. to set the ring time to 30 seconds you would type the following code at the standby screen then press the green send button:
**61*07973100123*11*30#
To make your phone ring for only 10 seconds:
**61*07973100123*11*10#
The code works in 5 second intervals, i.e. you can set 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 & 30 seconds.

Does this exist?

When you are on the default dialer page..instead of having to hit the call history button to view recent calls is there a program that would let you just use the scroll wheel to cycle thru them? If it doesnt exist would it be that hard for someone to create?
mine does this already....from dialer, scroll up for call history, scroll down for speed dial. btw, I'm on dcd 3.0.1, not sure if this behavior is on stock rom.
interesting, that is not in the stock sprint newest rom. wonder what that is?
fyi, yesterday I restored my titan from backup and the behavior described above stopped working. I was sure it was working before, so I looked at my config from an earlier backup and noticed I was running a dialer skin called Wizard reTouched. With that installed, the scroll wheel started working in the dialer again. For now I'm figuring that this dialer skin is what is doing this, not the dcd rom.
Yeah I installed dcd yesterday and it didnt work.
I believe the program you're looking for is called Smartskey. There's a cab for it floating around or you can build it into your rom using the kitchen.
I checked and it was htc dialer.zip that added the functionality for me.

How do you change the mobile number?

I have a Touch 2 and ported my old telephone number when switching mobile providers. The phone still shows the old number in a few places such as SIM Manager, and in Settings>Personal> Phone.
Where is the number held, and how can I change it?
Thanks
Kevin
I think you might have to reset your phone and/or remove the sim temporarily. But i've only had experience with non phone versions of Windows. Someone else may be able to give you a better answer.
try open sim manager and go in menu->tools-> list your number (menu tools is not visible without gesture from down to up). In this menu you can change number

[Q] Service menu, PA Gain State, any info on this or defaults?

Hey everyone, doesnt seem to be but 1 thread on this with the service menu. I was looking into it to see if I could see the same sim unlock menu that I used on my S3. Instead on key input, it 1 time changed the field "PA Gain State" to a different value. Now its just at a "1" I dont know if thats the default or not. One other thread says "0" is the normal. However seems now, that field wont change for me. So can anyone let me know if you really can do stuff in this service menu? If so, whats the defaults and how on earth do values get changed and other times, like now, just stay at the value they are at without being changed any. Making sure I didnt just mess something up here. Dont even know what that field is, or the rest of them. (I am assuming PA field is for volume gain table tho), so just checking on if something really could get messed up here. Thanks.
