I have the 8525 with WM6 installed. About 1 in 40 times, the End Call option doesn't display that the call ended (on my side). I attempt to still talk to the other person but I can't hear them, though. After about 2 minutes later, it finally ends the connection. I must do a soft reset to temporarily fix it; the only drawback is that the most previous call isn't shown as being made.
About 1 in 80 times, the call attempts to be made, but doesn't connect at all. I try to End Call, but it seems to "freeze" the screen. The "Close screen" seems to help, as in 30 seconds the device finally quits trying to connect.
Another thing I noticed, after the phone freezes, the antenna signal drops to zero and then returns to about 2 - 3 bars of signal, about 5 seconds later. I'm not sure if that is the cause of the phone hanging, or not. Is there any kind of software to resolve this issue? It's really annoying! Thanks for any help!
is that a cooked rom or official? what's your radio version and carrier?
I'm thinking u need a different radio verson...(u must have hardspl to flash another radio version)...
I got the 8525 as a reconditioned from AT&T about 3 weeks ago. It came with WM5, and I had the above calling issues back then too. I then was informed on the boards here to upgrade to WM6, which I downloaded from HTC, via the AT&T website link.
As for programs, I removed the AT&T "bloatware" via the hard reset trick. Later, I installed S2U2, HTC Streaming Media, HTweakC2.1b, and the PTTFix software. One other program on the 8525 is OCN8 -- for my iBlue 737 Bluetooth GPS device. There are no other files that I can recall, except maps, songs, internet .jpgs, and (camera) pictures/videos.
Settings:
ROM Version: 3.62.502.3
ROM Date: 10/11/07
Radio Version: 1.54.07.00
Protocol Version: 32.86u.7020.23H
I do appreciate and try to understand all of the replies that I receive, and I do try to respond within a timely manner. I understand that people are busy and may have other careers as well. However, the thing that makes me pull my hair out is when someone starts to assist my problem, then just ditches the thread after my reply, without so much as an "I'm sorry, but I'm not able to solve your problem" at the minimum! Normally, I give a 48 hour window for the helper or any more helpers to reply before I get frustrated, but it's been way past that timeframe now!
I've noticed that phenomenon on 3 of my prior posts, each are on different subjects. It seems that after the first reply, no one but the original helper responds! If that original helper is busy, or just forgets about the thread, then I'm screwed over.
Sorry to rant, but I tried looking all over the boards for the best Radio program. All I seem to find is best ROMs, but not really Radios. I've seen 2 other Radio programs in signatures, but I'm not sure what one would be best for my purposes. I've seen mention of 1.47.30 & 1.47.00.10 in some members' signatures, but I'm hesitant to just "trial and error" one, for fear it would damage my device. I currently have the WM6 default 1.54.07.00 version, but it freezes up on making some calls and more often on ending a current call.
Anyone else for ideas or opinions on what Radio program to use? Please back up your opinion with facts when possible. I am not an expert on the device, just a new user who is afraid to ruin my investment.
Much thanks to all who read this post and reply to it!
Hi, just saw your thread & did not know U were still hanging....
I would try radio 1.48.00.00 first, then 1.47.00.10 or 1.50.00.00 if necessary. Seem's a lot of at&t users liked 1.48 from what I noticed (don't forget hardspl - use mrvanx guide in the Mobile 6 forum section)...
Here's the 1.54 thread with pro's, con's, and 1.48 at&t comments...

Thanks for the reply! I will do the hardspl first, then try to install the 1.48.00.00 Radio. I'll report back with details in a day or two.
My current Image Version is 3.62.502.3, and I am attempting to update it to 3.54.255.3.
I keep having errors while trying to install Radio Version 1.48.00.10 to my 8525, after opening RUU_Inside.exe on my laptop. I've even tried to install it from my microSD card, but I get the tri-color screen instead of the white background with text screen, shown in the online example. The 8525 ActiveSyncs to the computer fine, and the screen shows:
"Updating the ROM image on your PDA phone ...
Please do not remove the USB connection from the PDA Phone or launch any program during the update process.
Remember the operation will take about 10 minutes."
As soon as the above grey box pops up, ActiveSync drops after that box appears, then I get the following message:
"Error [260]: CONNECTION"
I've installed Hard-SPL v.7 onto the 8525 already. Not that it seems to make a difference, I believe, but other programs that are on it include: WMXL 8525 Keyboard Fix, S2U2 1.16, Resco Explorer 2008, PTTFix, MunduRadio, & HTweakC 2.1,
not sure, but did a "search" for error 260 & seems to be your pc usb port:
(use xda google search for any questions)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368624
btw, u are using XP & not Vista on u'r pc.
My laptop has XP (Media Center Edition). I did a search as well, but it was dated back to 2007; I wondered if there was a newer fix than the one on that page, as it referenced the prior version of Hard-SPL. From the sounds of it, I have to install WM5 again, change the radio version (which was the only thing I need to adjust, as the voice calls have been a pain since day one), then reinstall all of my programs again.
I've heard people create ROMs. However, the radio settings can't be included in them . . . or am I off-base with that presumption? I am not that experienced to cook my own ROM, as I am still learning the nuances.
Well I broke down and went on AT&T's online chat. Sounds like there is no software to install to fix the issue. I hoped the radio version switch would help, but I couldn't get it to install! I guess it's back to the Replacement Depot on Sunday. I should return my device to WM5, which I hope to find the thread for on the board.
If interested, here's the key parts of the conversation:
Me: Hi, my 8525 is giving me trouble making and ending calls. It sometimes hangs, and doesn't quit trying to place the call. Once I reset it, it's fine until I try to end the call, it hangs up the call, but not showing so on my side
AT&T: Can you try hard shocking the phone for me please? A hard shock is taking the battery out while the phone is still powered on, and then power the phone back on once the battery is back in the phone.
Me: I received it as a reconditioned from the AT&T depot in Pittsburgh, PA. About 20 minutes later, it did the same thing, so I upgraded to WM6 and still the same issues
AT&T: If you continue to have these issues with this phone, you will need to take the phone back to the Device Support place where you got it from.
Me: Is that a common issue?
AT&T: Sometimes it is with at reconditioned phone.
. . .
AT&T does not have an update for the Windows Mobile 6 at this time. However you may check out HTC website at www.htcamerica.net/support/default.html and see if they have an update for this software for this phone.
Me: So it's the phone, not the software?
AT&T: Yes that is correct. There is a defect within the phone that is causing these issues. If you continue to have these issues with this phone, you will need to take the phone back to the Device Support place where you got it from.
Me: Are you able to explain what causes it that the Device Center doesn't catch it
AT&T: I am not sure what causes this issue.
Me: Like should there be anything done to prevent that from happening?
AT&T: It is hard to tell with reconditioned phones. It may be something that can be fixed and it may not. If the hard shock does not fix this issue and the Device Support cannot, then you will be given another phone.

Ok, your signature is looking good and that is some conversation with good old at&t...bla bla bla
To answer your question above, the chefs cooked roms do not include radio (because everyone around the world uses a different one). But, the Official WM6 rom's do (posted wiki & wm 6 section). So, why don't u flash the official wm6 since u have hardspl now? This in itself may resolve u'r issue (if u don't get the driver pc 260 error)! why would u want to flash wm5?
I was going to return my 8525 to the Service Depot where I got it, is why I mentioned returning it back to WM5 status. However, I wanted to see if it could be fixed by software first, but considering the above online AT&T chat, I am definitely going to get it replaced again. So, I want the 8525 to not show my "3rd party software" to ruin the warranty. I had the 8525 to individually remove the CABs under Remove Programs, and then I did a Clear Memory to default for good measure. Hopefully the Service Depot won't say anything about the device being altered that way.
Oh yea, I am going to get it replaced on Thursday. I will try to get them to give me a new one, not a reconditioned. That is, if there are even any new ones around anymore! It'd be a miracle if they gave me a new 8925 Tilt instead . . . lol I know -- keep dreaming! Wish me luck with a new 8525 though!
Well, I exchanged my current 8525 for another reconditioned one. The repair guy actually asked if I heard of the xda website (for help with my device!), lol!! He didn't go into detail about what this site does, just asked if I heard about it, and I affirmed that I did. Possibly he found traces of programs that changed settings, but he didn't rat me out. He sounded like he was confident that he fixed the phone dialing issues, but gave me a new one "just in case".
As soon as he gave it to me, it booted right up, without the calibration screen. He flat out told me to calibrate it, but it didn't appear. I was trying to see if it would act up with the dialing again, but noticed it didn't save the numbers on my SIM! I then decided to get rid of the bloatware via the Clear Programs and that lead to the calibration screen, finally.
So far it seems to work fine! I made about 6 calls this time and they seem to end properly. There is a slight 30 second or so delay when I press the button with the "red phone symbol" [end call] before the screen lights up again though. Is that normal?
Oh, I've only loaded up S2u2 so far. I will reinsert the others onto my memory card today sometime before work.
Again, so far so good! Only real issue I see is that the ringer volume is very low when the device is in the carrying case I have it in. I will search on here for a ringer volume changer, soon!
Glad U were able to get another phone!
"red phone symbol" [end call] before the screen lights up again though. Is that normal?
No, should end in a few seconds...doesn't seem it's even assigned to the phone (U can use Schaps Advanced Config tool to do this and many more good tweeks).

The "end call" does it's job, just that the screen is dim then it takes like 30 seconds to brighten again to show that the call is ended. Possibly it's something I have set up wrong. I notice the blue backlight for the keypad doesn't light up until a minute of my typing on it for a text; it's like a delayed reaction.
(I have the unlimited text/pix/vid plan, as of this past Thursday.) A bit off-topic, but are the Yahoo, AOL, & MSN IM programs considered a text or do they use kilobytes of data? I could use the programs over the Wi-Fi if I had to, but I don't want to pay extra for data kilobytes.
Lastly, I have never downloaded the Schaps Configuration. What all settings should I change? I know it's mostly based on personal preference, but what are some common alterations using it? For instance, I set the alarm to wake up to, but it's only a short beep sound. If I really was sleepy, I would probably sleep right through it! Does this program (or any others) configure any song on my device to be the alarm? I've already done that to the ringtone (where the first 30 seconds of any song is my ringtone).

Schaps has a number of Performance, Power, UI settings, etc., but no alarm ringtones. U may not need Since u'r using HTweekC.

I've got a stock that hasn't received notification or started to download the 1st OTA update. Can I help out in any way with grabbing the OTA file? I know some people try to logcat when the device has already downloaded it but it hasn't been installed.
My device hasn't downloaded anything yet and I'd be happy to parse out any log information if I can get some directions on how.

Yeah. I had been running aLogcat since i picked up my replacement and having it save to the SD card every fifteen minutes and still managed to miss the update, but I think I figured out why.
I was turning on/off my phone alot, and every time start aLogcat the first save will be 15min from that point. So when the update downloaded to my phone, I installed it before that 15min was up. So what I'd recommend you do is go ahead and install aLogcat and have it save like I was. BUT before you install the update, manually save the log.
Ahh, good catch - okay, I'll be sure to snap a log manually.
Also to double check my settings:
Level: Verbose
Format: Raw - I changed this thinking it might be better
Buffer: Main
Then Periodic Save: 15mins
Just got the notification for the update!
I can't update yet because my battery is too low. I'm charging now. Once it's charged enough, I will do the steps you suggest.

Actually, you have to be logging before you get the notification. The notification is for install, not download. That probably happened in the background, at least it did for me. Thanks for trying, though!
Btw, completely offtopic, how are you liking your MT4G?

Crap. That would explain why I thought it wasn't right when I hit the update and it powered off.
I am liking it so far. It's a very nice phone and I'm appreciating the performance jump from my Sprint Hero. I'm happy I went with the MT4G instead of the G2.
Yes, I'm logging prior to the 48 hour time period. I fully suspect I haven't missed the download beginning.
Anyone know if logcat still saves to SD card when the screen is off? Not the device off.
Tonight I'm disabling WIFI and leaving the phone in an area where I know it gets strong reception. I'm logging every 15 mins.
Called back in again and my "update not received" form was done on the 13th and it "can take up to 7 days" from the time that was done. So, 2 more days before I return this and get a new phone. Hoping to catch an aLogcat (still running) of things if they do go through automatically.
In the dev section of the forum there is a way to force the update and root. It works I did it myself because i never got the update and I'm now rooted w/ update.

Yeah, I saw. Still fishing for the update link and I've got a few minor hardware defects on my phone too (vanity things, really -- bowed bezel, small chip on the bezel, bowing around camera lens) that the guy at the store wouldn't return it for because "well your phone works fine functionally". Waiting gives me the ammo to swap it anyhow.
Sorry for being vain, but I paid full retail for my phone so I'd like my shiny $450 toy to be about as perfect as it can be!

If you're in your remorse period they don't need *any* excuse/reason to exchange it. If you're not, you should be able to get tech support to put a note in your account to exchange it for not having been able to recieve the OTA (they are aware some people just aren't getting it).

Return, yes, for a re-stock fee. They would not exchange it at the store for a minor cosmetic defect, though. I already tried.
TMo store or other?
Most stores have a no questions return policy - can you simply do that and then get another somewhere else?

T-Mo store. Only one around I've seen so far, and AFAIK most places won't accept a return they didn't sell as it comes out of their sales numbers.

I meant return to the store purchased from. TMo won't let you just return it - I thought that was allowed by their terms and conditions?

They tried to get me to pay a re-stock fee once, but I think it was just $10 and that guy was a douchebag who was overruled by his manager when I made a stink about it.
Could always go with the good old "I'm taking my ball and going home" routine. Either they exchange the device for another and make you happy, or you are returning it completely and walking out the door with your cash. Preferably get a Manager around. If they still won't exchange it, I'd get my money back, then go to another T-Mobile store, complain about the service at the other for a possible discount, and re-purchase.

I'm not sure but I believe the file comes from google/android.
Do you know regex?
Possibly a search for .android. or .google. might be a start.
Grats on this - hopefully it shows up in there. I've been logging for the last two days and still ahve not received the OTA, thinking about doing a hard reset but I don't want it to start downloading before I get logCat running.. Thinking about how to hardreset, put the phone where it gets no signal, and installing logcat frmo the SD card. Not sure how to do this. Not sure how I would install an ADK without downloading something to do so.
The phone stock can't install from SD card can it? What if I move an app to SD card now, prior to hard reset?
Earlier, my G2 shut off on me about 5 times. -_-
First, I had it sitting in the car ,tried to take a pic but the stupid voice recognition menu kept coming up so I gave up and set it down in the console. When I got home, the phone felt warm and was.. off.
Then, I turned it on.. stuffed it in my pocket. A moment later, I pulled it out and YET AGAIN when I pushed the button I was greeted by a quick vibe and the HTC screen -_-
Then a few minutes later I ran a speed test (checking HSPA+ out in Vegas).. put it down on the table.. come back.. PHONE IS *(@#% DEAD AGAIN.
I HATE YOU! *glares at phone*
It's killing me because it either happens several times in a row, or doesn't happen for days! I've tried replacing the sim card, replacing the SD card.. moving the battery... no dice.
Maybe it's my SIM card? Would that cause it? My last phone did that -_- And I'm silly to have not yet changed the SIM lol
Good thing I have a spare sitting in my bag.
What battery are you using? Aftermarket? Is so, did you remove the sticker around the battery? If you did then make sure you place a piece of tape on the battery to avoid making contact with the metal sd card holder. The metal on metal causes it to shut down.

Interesting. I've also been having random shutdowns (not reboots, which I've seen mentioned elsewhere, due to a hardware fault) --
HTC Desire Z, using default battery, but I'll try isolating it anyway with a slip of paper or something.
OP you on a custom rom with overclock? maybe your clocking your phone too high or low?
Also if the phone for whatever reason gets too hot or cold it will turn itself off.
Please see this forum: Phone powers down and won't turn back on w/o pulling the battery
I strongly believe that this may be an issue with the GPS and/or Google Maps. Once I have the GPS off, this has not occurred. Can anyone else try this?
I have the Bell Desire Z NAM with stock HTC Sense 2.2 ROM.
It seems to be quite prevalent, see the bottom of this review: T-Mobile G2 is speedy sequel to original Android
I think you may be onto something with that GPS note, but my phone doesnt' need the battery pulled to restart.
Also, it's running the stock firmware, stock battery (just exchanged battery and got a new SIM card yesterday, and it shut off again today.. so those aren't the problem)... so any issues I'm having are 100% stock related...
This time it shut off after using Maps so....
i read somewhere (trying to find the source) that some G2's were experiencing random restarts / shutdowns due to low signal strength. Not sure how valid this is but you might want to look into this as well.

This was true before we received the first OTA update. Since then though the problem has been fixed.
I think it was definitely the GPS, that said I just got done with a really long phone call about this and have a replacement on the way.. but that was way too much effort AND I have to pay shipping (it's not much, but seriously.) I'm not happy that T-Mobile was THAT big a pain in the butt about getting the phone replaced with a new one in the 30 day return period.
Going by the pointers one of my close friends on sprint (that used to be on AT&T) gave me, I'd say this could've been worse with another provider.. but it shouldn't have been. The reception isn't the best so the customer service should make up for that, and it sorta does.. but it sorta doesn't.
Oh well.
I have been experiencing almost the same thing for the past week or so. I have tried a few things such as lowering clock speeds, changing roms, and not using maps or GPS. Nothing has stopped the shutdowns. I cant seem to find a pattern in the things the phone is doing when it shuts off because it rarely does it when i have the screen on, also it never does it if music is playing or if i am watching a video. I will say that it seems to happen alot when i am in spots i know are dead spots for phone signal. I flash roms a fair amount so it is hard to say this has started after flashing a rom, but I will say it never did this before I flashed my first sensui 3.0 rom.
I am thinking its one of two things, something with the radio and/or its firmware or something with the sdcard because at least one senseui 3.0 rom said something about sdcard formatting.
I hope all this helps the smart people come up with idea on what wrong with our phones.

My Desire Z had the same problem and I returned it to HTC Service for repair. They said they change some cables? and a new battery. It has been nearly 3 days and I haven't experienced a single shutdown but there was one time it restarted by itself.
Yeah my only problem with that is, I am close to my upgrade date. How much did it cost. I may still do it so I can give this phone to my kid brother.

http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/T-Mobile-G2/G2-Turning-off-by-itself/td-p/513575/page/4
There is a conductive metal strip along the back of the battery that looks like it may be shorting out. Check out the link for detailed fix with pics. I take no credit for this, just posting it since I'm experiencing this problem too.
Talked to tmobile CS today and was trying to get a replacement because my phone would randomly reboot and shut off. All he told me was go and pick up a new sim card. If that didn't help then they would be willing to give me a warranty replacement.

Clicking your link all I got was an empty T-Mobile page with the message "Page not found" and some some java script error message when closing the window.
Is this possible fix something else than lining the back of the battery with a strip of paper?

Sorry about that, I fixed the link and it should be working now.
Cool, thanks!

I'm pretty sure mine is not caused by the metal strip since my battery's all proofed. I didn't have anything wrong with it until about half a month ago, and it always happened after using GPS and left it on. If I turn it off after navigation or any other app that requires GPS the phone won't go into SOD.
I switched back to CM7 RC2 around that time and starting to get the GPS no fix problem, and it could't be fixed by the dd=/dev/.... script. So I switched into Nightly 88 or something that at least I was able to get a fix but the not-so-random freezing started.
This morning I flashed the new 7.1.0 RC1 and the phone would just turn itself off (it used to just freeze and become hot), and I got really tired of it... My old G1 was much more reliable than this.
I tried the dd=/dev script again, so far after 5 min the phone is still on with GPS on....
@carcuote
Thank you! I haven't had this issue for months now. But the solution is so easy to do that I will try our anyways.
I had this issue the first month our so when I got the new phone, but went away permanently after the second month. Maybe the contacts in the battery got a little rusted? Don't know but the solution is simple enough to try...

Not sure when this started. I unlocked and rooted before I had even started up, and since then just used the Trinity kernel and toolbox, but apart from that completely stock. It was working, but now it force closes when bring up the results. For example if I ask for the weather it will be half way through the reply then back to the home screen. Happens both on typing and voice search.
Only two threads I can find are below, none of them have a fix
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784694

I have deleted the cache and disabled/enabled google search. Any ideas?

I'm having this problem as well with my Nexus 7. I'm not sure what's wrong with it. it's just so frustrating. I tried to download the offline language pack but still didnt work. Like u said no other post online available for this solution yet. Wondering if many people get this.
However one thing did happen, my nexus 7 ran out of batt and turned off by itself. I then plugged it into a power source and turned it on. I run an app and suddenly some blur screen like the TV tuned out came on and all i can hear is some buzzing sound. then i plugged off the power and i charged it again and everything was alright apart from the Google Now thing!!!!!
when the batt ran out, all the memories seems to be wiped out... such as time and date.. seems strange when they built such high tech stuff and they do not have memories to keep track of time and date?!
i really hope this gets resolved soon

Another N7 user
New version of Google Search downloaded today seems to fix
hello, not a noob for installing stuff just reporting some issues im having with this rom.
So currently the install went fine on the focus (ATT device running on Tmobile). the device is rebooting at random times, i would watch it flash the goodbye screen wait for a few seconds then the samsung screen comes on. Another thing is my connection is reporting to be on the E (Edge connection i guess) even though im rated for 3G with tmobile but at the time i just recently turned on my data so maybe when my new pay period kicks in that would change so that ones iffy. Other than that the rom seems to be running fine.
Until your area gets a network upgrade on TMobile's 1900Mhz band, you are going to see 2G.
As far as the reboots, I have 3 focus's running this Rom on Straighttalk. NO reboots.

i know i get 3g before cause my father turned off the data plan when i wasn't working (and before i flashed the rom incase anyone asked), like i said i won't know until a couple of weeks as theres alot of extenuating circumstances which i can pin on Tmobile (my voicemail was kinda jacked up when i first joined).
Yea the reboot was just weird, i would just take it out of my pocket and i would noticed all of my pass tasks were missing even when i wasn't running anything on the background still does it, then last night i was on my computer look over to the right to my phone and it was restarting by itself . Also before i flashed, i had the same issue but not too frequently maybe once per 2 months.

I had similar issues when I was on T-Mobile about 6 months ago, but I am not sure but I don't think your issues are because of T-Mobile, try a reflash.

i cleaned before and after but heck reflashing helps too, i'll give that a shot tonight. Yea this rom is awesome, makes my focus still look shiny new
Here are the bugs I found:
1. The Clock Hub seems to flash every other time I look at it, as if it was flickering and loading up just then, not smooth.
2. The Clock Hub's code needs to be fixed to show AM and PM properly when the hour is 12. 12AM is shown as 12PM and the other way around too. Soon as it hits 1PM or 1AM, it's ok.
3. XBox avatar wakes up on the wrong side after shaking him down and he tries to pull the screen to the side. Shake your avatar, make him fall down, watch him get up pissed and pull the screen to a side. On the older stock rom, he pulled it correctly from left to right. In this ROM and the Tango ROM I got from here - he pulls it wrongly from right to left.
4. When I connected the phone to the computer, it detected it as a Samsung Omnia 7, instead of a Focus.
5. The image in Zune is a generic Windows Phone image, not the Samsung Focus as it used to be shown before.
6. When there's a phonecall, earlier it used to say "slide up to answer", why not anymore?
7. No charging sound/vibration when plugged in.
One request:
Can anyone find the original image from the stock rom from the 7 album, which had the person crossing their leg to form a 4, instead of the Mango image that has the latch with the 4 over it?

I found that the network profile does not work. The voice search does not work, also when u have a custom SMS tone it will not silence and also it will play when u are talking on the phone, and if you get more than one text it will play the sound for each sound all at once.

Your phone probably has bad NAND sectors. Aside from getting a new phone the only thing you can try is getting a very large SD card and hope that most of the data gets written to the SD card instead of the NAND. This is a common problem with the Focus I have noticed.

The Dynamics ROM uses a lot of Omnia 7 files as well as it's newer firmware which can cause problems, such as changing providers with the diagnosis app via the provxml trick. The reason voice search doesn't work is because of ultrashot's SearchKeySettings package. If you want that to work you will have to use a ROKM that doesn't have that included.
