I'd videochat but for some reason, the market place can't find "Qik Video" or "Qik" so I can't download an update. Bummer

Qik is only available for 4G?

somebody should be able to pull the apk and post it, if it's available anywhere.
edit: i found this
Download Qik on your mobile phone by going to http://d.qik.com from your mobile browser.
you have to make a qik account first
2nd edit: nevermind. that just sends you to the market, where you get pname:com.qik.android not found
3rd edit: just get fring and you can video chat by connecting your skype account to fring. works like a charm skyped my buddy with my phone earlier

in the select list is it the max4g?

Fring for me has worked great. Qik came preinstalled on my Evo and it does not work (it forces close everytime). How can I remove Qik from my phone? I tried to go to Applications but it does not allow you to uninstall the app.

Qik just showed up on Android Market!
I just upgraded it and can do 2 way video chat now

I have been getting that problem too. I wonder why?

I continue to get an error stating I am not connected to the network but I do have internet. Also my shortcut says the linked program is not available.

Skype for Android

As many of you already know the official Skype app has been released for android. I have been using this app since it was released in beta for Verizon and I was hoping that there would be a video chatting feature with the final release. The app itself drains battery and only makes calls over wifi (lame) but does anyone see Skype adding a video feature anytime soon? Or is there anyway we could write an app to videochat with Skype users on their computers?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
It seems that you'd have to be authorized by Skype to use it. I think that was the downfall of Fringe - they cut them off. So writing one would probably be a no go.
I've also seen it mentioned that Verizon's deal is still in play. Skype MOBILE (over mobile data) is still exclusive to Verizon but a WiFi only app is okay for everyone else. I think Skype could add video chating to the app but we'd still be limited to WiFi only until Verizon's US deal with Skype is over.

That sucks

From my knowledge, skype to skype is alwasy free.
My son went to Europe in the spring, took his netbook, and we used skype to Fring when it was still working, to video chat. No charges.
He used hotel Wifi, I was connecting to my EVO on 3g.
Nimbuzz allows skype calling over wifi and 3g, and it doesn't drain your battery.
No video chat = not interested.
Does anyone know how to get the notification bar icon to go away?

[Q] where the heck is the video chat app for galaxy tab on at&t

So, I buy this thing hoping to video chat and there is no app installed that I can find. So I download qik and there is no video chat option. What am I missing ?????
Thanks
Try "Tango" which is in the Market or "Fring" which is also in the Market.
Also the Yahoo Messenger has a video Chat add-on if you use that.
I have the At&T tab as well and was quite disappointed to not have a stock video chat app, but tang works very well. Much better than fring imo

What really pissed me off last night is that there is no free tab to PC video chat option! The only option is probably...yahoo messenger? ( didn't check that ) and "clearsea" which is a paid app...
It's ridiculous really...
Att looks to make everything other than the iPhone and iPad fail. They hold everything elce back. When the day comes that the iPhones moves to another US carrier (verizon) AT&T is going to wish they never made theses kind of choices. It will be there un-doing.
Yea. Than they want a 10% restock fee. This is bull ****. They should take it back without a restocking fee since it does not do what they say it does. They clearly put on their web page that to video chat click on the app icon to do so. Its a green icon with a handset on it.

Skype buys QIK!

Just saw this article...

Skype bought QIK, does that mean we'll get skype with video chat soon!?!!? If so, that would be AWESOME!
yeah, was announced a couple of days ago. however skype already does video chat and has an app for verizon for new LTE phones, so i don't know what the hold up is

or do we lose video chat with qik and skype locks it down to one carrier?
probably the case, skype blocked fring from using their protocol(?) earlier when the evo first came out as that was how fring was touting video chat

I hope not. There are rumors that Facebook will be integrating Skype as it's video chat solution; that'd pretty much guarantee Skype's ubiquity as the video calling standard.
It seems like there are lots of mentions of the new Verizon Droid Bionic having Skype video chatting but there's no mention of the AT&T Atrix having it. Seeing as how both are Moto's, this is not a good sign. The iPhone 4 on AT&T already has Skype video calling so this may be another Verizon Android exclusive. We'll see though.
I guess I was looking at the whole pc to phone thing...which I think would be pretty damn cool.
You can video chat from PC to phone using ooVoo on the Evo.
Everyone is carrier locking like a bunch of money grubbing pansies so rather than seeing anything awesome we will still be stuck with waisted potential.
Where's NET Neutrality when you need it? Oh thats right: Google sold out on that one.
[throwhissyfitincorner]
Say good bye to Qik. Verizon locked up the Skype video calling.
Google talk should have video chat sooner or later anywhos
Theres also still yahoo video chat, I guess, although I can't wait for google to come out with one.

Working on Skype Video Calls on the Thunderbolt

Hey guys,
Found VZW_Skype.apk in an old RUU before it was announced that it would be pulled from the Thunderbolt, when installed it tries to download a file called com.skype.merlin_mecha (Found this from baksmali'ing it) but fails to download as the file was pulled from the market (along with a similar file called merlin_bionic) so without it we have no video calling.
http://pastebin.com/hsuX1WCC
Now this file, when looked up on AndroLib seems to have 5-10k plus installs, if you can help me in finding it (google didn't help much) then we may have a shot at video on the TB using Skype.
Thanks
This would be better off being reposted in several other device forums. I was looking at the comments on Androidzoom and apparently an Evo user has/had it. Try asking there. Hopefully the user has a xda account and still has the apk. Long shot, but a shot worth taking...
Did Fring ever turn back on video chat?
Tango seems to work decently. Called my wife's iPhone 4 from my Tbolt without issue. Skype would be pretty sweet though!
I noticed there were a lot of programs in the older RUUs that are not listed. Good luck on the search as I would love to try it out!
Fring and oovoo both work but the it wold not register the front facing camera.

+1 for Tango. I can call my wife's iPhone with it and it works great. Can use over 3G too and not limited to wifi and 4G.
yahoo messenger works well also. does video chat. video part could be better . what is the quality on tango?
I seem to have audio issues with both Tango & Yahoo video calling. I am calling to my wife's TBolt. Any one know how to correct this ?
Thanks
Tango seems to have an issue with tbolt to tbolt calling. Works great calling tbolt to iPhone though.

This was just a dummy app directing you to the app store. Only FW .96 had Skype video but the quality wasn't that good. If you rip the .apk from .96 Skype Video should work.

If someone gets Skype working, I will definitely be donating. I am the only one with a Front Facing camera in the family.
Add me to the donation list..... Maybe we should start a bounty. The first dev to get skype video calls working with decent quality would get the bounty.

It is most unfortunate - but I'm betting someone will come out with a "compatible" app in due time, if Skype doesn't wake up.
Alternately, I'd take an official Google Talk video chat solution.

I have found that ooVoo works really well.
Hopefully Skype will do something with Qik to get around their exclusivity with Verizon.
Or even better, Google get off their asses and start using the video call framework that's been in the API since at least 2.1. They bought Gizmo5, who was doing SIP video calling using h.264 on my Nokia n810 back in '07. It was essentially what Apple's FaceTime is now.
I've been using Yahoo Messagings video chat because my wife doesn't have a smart phone that does video, so being able to connect with a computeri s a must for me, but the video is sideways. Does OOVOO not have this problem?

ooVoo is the best around. It has a small footprint, displays correctly and works (when it does) flawlessly.
My only problem with it is it's inconsistency making calls. Sometimes it will show the user online; sometimes it won't.

Not surprising to me really. While I like a lot of things about Google their 'statup' operation strategy with lots of independently operating teams leads to this.
I say the same thing all the time with official Google apps for Android. Where's my official Google Analytics/AdWords/Docs/Talk app? I know all of these can be addressed in various ways by 3rd party apps or tertiary functionality in other apps. But I'd like to see some official Google apps for some as their official apps usually tend to be good quality.
More than likely video chat on google will be release at Honeycomb and hopefully with some devs help we'll have it for our froyo devices.

i've tried a few and like Tango the most. it's just the easiest to use and most streamlined and just works.
+1 Tango! Simple to use, and it streams extremely well on either 3G or 4G (best). I've use Yahoo, Qik, etc. and found those apps can be quirky and probably worked best on Wifi.

My problem with ooVoo was a perpetual attempt to sync, draining my battery. Their support said they'll be removing that from the next release but until then it's staying off my device.

+1, same here, drains battery fast.
I've had that same issue with Oovoo, it's literally killed my battery extremely fast to reach and sync with nothing. But other than that it's the only logical choice for Video chatting until Skype and Verizon stop screwing everyone over with Exclusiveness.
