I see $450 being thrown about but come on, that's too good to be true. I called Best Buy and was quoted $700.
sprint email
the sprint email i received said $499 was the price...direct from sprint...see my post under evo 4g launch event...i just left best buy and they told me they have nothing on the pricing yet!! (even though i was going to pre-order!!...they said it is whatever the rebate price from sprint ($199))

actually retail$450.$150 instant discount,u pay $300 up front then u get back $100 mail in rebate that leaves to $199 with new activation.
Wouldn't be surprised if there's a lot of misinformation floating out there, but I called a Sprint Store directly and they informed me the retail price is $449. He had to put me on hold to call corporate. $450 is ridiculous for something like this, and I still don't quite believe it.
What sucks even more is my 30 day window closes on June 2nd!! But if I can sell a brand new hero for $200 I won't mind fronting the other $250.
When the EVO was announced at CTIA I immediately signed up for news updates at the Sprint EVO site. Yesterday I received a promotional email FROM SPRINT that says "...$449.99 - $150.00 (two-year activation) - $100.00 (mail-in rebate) = $199.99 (final price).". I literally just now copy and pasted that quote from the email!
So, will Best Buy offer it at the same price or not? I'm ashamed to say, when I was there pre-ordering it this afternoon, I was assured that pre-orders were for unsubsidized phones as well as new service (or upgrades) but I forgot to ask what the non-discount price was because I assumed it was the same. Now I'm wondering...
I just pre-ordered my Evo at BestBuy today and didn't even think to ask what retail was. I just assumed it was the $450 like Sprint said.
Sure hope I'm right. I thought it was too good to be true as well but coming out of Sprint's mouth it was hard not to pay full price.
I preordered at bestbuy too.
occasionally they mess up and give me the lower out of contract price but either way...I'm buying this phone!
Return it

I have heard that what people are doing in a situation like yours, is that they are just going to return it, get another phone (like the moment or something) and then return it again for the EVO. Sure you'll have to pay restocking fees, but it will cost less then selling your Hero.
449 is probably the starting price based on signing a 2 year contract. It will likely be higher if you are going with a non-contract outright purchase. Our prices at The Shack work that way at least.
With Sprint from the past, whatever the price is before they apply the discount for new service, new line, or upgrade is usually what the price of the phone is. It is a little hard to believe this amazing phone is $450 but I've noticed one thing android phones tend to be cheaper than their WM counterparts, not always but usually. With that said I'm sure Sprints plan is to keep as many customers as possible as well as get more with this phone and they can always make it back with the cost of the plan. I also went to pre-order mines from best buy today but before I commit to it I wanted to make sure what the unsubsidized price would be but unfortunately the guy helping didn't know. He just said it would probably be about 600-700. The email as stated though says $450 so before I committed I wanted to find out what the real price will be before I commit to a higher price than what Sprint is actually selling for since I just used my upgrade in January for the Hero so I have to wait until next January. I have had the experience depending on who you deal with that even if you aren't eligble for an upgrade they would still sell you the phone at the upgrade price. Also a post above stated that they were going to get the 100 rebate still, is that even possible without it being a new activation or upgrade or were they just helping you out?
Chatted with Sprint rep today via website and confirmed...
...that the off-contract price is $449. If this turns out to be true...that's FU*KING GREAT!!! I really hope this phone ends up being the real deal. This could be an all-out effort from Sprint to extend what potentially is the hottest phone of 2010 to anyone who's interested at great price whether new customer or otherwise. Gain new customers and stop the bleeding of existing ones...makes sense.
there also seems to be a very gradual shift away from outrageous off-contract prices (FTC pressure maybe?)... nokia smartphones have been reasonably priced off contract (gsm models anyway) for some time now, and while 450 is a bit low it doesn't seem impossible.
Yeah, I'm going back to BestBuy today to cancel my preorder. Their are just too many rumors of BB charging $600+. Hopefully I will have luck on my side on June 4 when I go to the Sprint store to buy one.
$599 off contract confirmed at BB.$450 at Sprint. My Sprint store isn't doing preorders.. looks like I'll be taking the fourth off from work.

$450 from Sprint directly. Periord. End of story. Other retailers such as Best Buy and RadioShack have the ability to raise the price if they want, and it has been confirmed that Best Buy will be gouging it to $600. It has been reported that RadioShack will only charge the standard $450.
Can anyone confirm the 450 in writing from a sprint store after you paid for a pre-order?
I will go to 20 sprint stores in my area if one will do that for me.
THANKS!!

Yeah, I've printed a copy of that announcement from a link someone posted to be safe but what I'm most concerned with is trying to get a pre-order confirmed at that price. I don't want to have to wake up crazy early and then hope that they don't try to screw me that morning of by telling me they are only selling to upgrade customers since those are the people they make money off of. That could very well happen, that's exactly why I want to pre-order.
Appears that corp stores are NOT taking pre-orders. If anyone finds out different please post about your story.
Thanks
Will bb price match?
I just canceled my Best Buy preorder when they told me that they would not price match Sprint if they marked the price up.

When I called them they said they didn't know and normally don't know anything till the day before.
They were pretty much useless to me. Sprint has already announced the price so the chances are pretty slim they will just all the sudden increase the price.
My Sprint store would not let me pre-order. They said they would be happy to call me when the EVO arrives.
EDIT: Best Buy sold me a $ 50 gift card to use for the purchase of the phone or anything else in the store (or cashed in). In my opinion this is a no lose situation. If Best Buy decides to up the price (which I HIGHLY doubt) then I can just cash in the card and walk over to the Sprint store.
I also just looked at the Best Buy site online and the fine print keeps deferring back to the Sprint website for more details. To me this means the price will be the same, $450 unsubsidized - $150 upgrade - $100 mail-in rebate = $200.
EDIT-2: It's looking more and more like TheBiles is correct. More than one person has reported that BB is going to charge $600.

There has been a lot of talk that Best Buy will charge $600 off contract, which is what I'm ordering. They've done the price gouging in the past as well. Does anyone know the off contract price at Radio Shack?
EDIT: Apparently Radio Shack is only accepting preorders for contracted phones. They told me that they don't yet know what the final price will be. The Sprint store told me to come back in a week and they would probably be taking names for reserves. Though I'm not too worried about them selling out here.

I went into a Sprint store because Best Buy in Washington state will apparently not ever carry Sprint phones in store (they said they can only carry 3 major carriers and chose AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon) - I assume this is because T-Mobile US headquarters is in Factoria, WA outside of Seattle?
The Sprint sales manager entered some info into the computer (my Name, Social Security Number, Address, current phone number) and looked like he wrote my name and some sort of confirmation number on a post-it note. He said I have one reserved for the 4th and they will call me the 3rd to schedule an appointment to pick it up after the morning rush has died down. I expressed concern because I wanted to make sure I would have an Evo if they sold out, and he said not to worry, I will definitely get one.
I'll go to a Sprint store in the morning. The dude at BB said "you do know it's gonna be around $700 right?" .. uhhhh no thanks pal..

Yeah, my Best Buy was totally ****ing clueless. They were all like "Um, we have no idea what the price will be, but we do know that we will not match the price on it." I was like not a chance.
I work at a sprint store in WA, we are officially taking pre orders for the phone. I hear they have a ton in the warehouse, but with the magnitude of interested I'd get to it quick.

As a sprint employee, can you tell me if there's any "official" preorder process? I didn't receive a receipt or confirmation number, although the employee seemed to write something down after putting my info into the computer. I did tell him I would be signing up for a new 2yr contract as well.
There should be, I was told there was, but the link to whatever they are working on is broken thusfar. It should be up soon. What our store is doing is taking down names, numbers and emails, and then transfering them to the real pre order list once it becomes available. After that you will get an email with the pre order confirmation.
For anyone wondering if BB will raise the price, they will. Look at their off contract pricing for the Hero and Moment. $599 and $629 respectively. No doubt BB will raise the price. I need to see if Sprint will charge me a deposit to open my own account again instead of my family's account. If I can I pay my $200 etf, plus $199 and it still comes out cheaper than $450.
I am the primary number on a 3 line family plan and got the Hero in Oct.
I called today and the sprint rep said I was fully upgrade eligible for the Evo at $199. SWEET
I asked if I could pre-order and he said not until June 4rth. I asked about going to BB or the shack and he said that if I bought the phone there, if I have any problems with anything, I need to go back to them for service.
Questions:
Which is better for service, BB or Shack, or Sprint?
I have the $7 warranty from Sprint, can I get that if I buy at BB or shack?
If I do upgrade, do you think my Hero will be eligible for a buy back from Sprint?

The warranty is applied to whatever phone is on the account, regardless of where you buy it from.
Hmm, looking at the sprint site, it doesn't appear I am upgrade eligible. or I am reading it wrong.
How can I tell if I am eligible?
hmmm...
If I were you, I'd just walk into a Sprint store and speak with the person that looks like they've worked there the longest.
Then, go into a different store and do the same.
Sounds odd, but with Big Red I've walked into different stores and gotten different answers to my questions. Naturally, I made purchases at the stores that provided the answers I wanted
supossedly, according to slickdeals the best cheapest price is available at Sams Club since they give you an instant $40 rebate on new activations. so you could get it for $159 there
Best Buy offers insurance for 10 bucks a month (3 more than sprints 7). The guy told me that if anything happened to it by my fault, i.e. dropping it in in the doodoo station, they would replace it, no questions asked, with no deductible..
you can add the $7 Sprint insurance to your plan at anytime online through your sprint account.
does radio shack have anything like that best buy $10 a month insurance? If i knew about that I may have preordered there instead

no deductible is nice. but 36 extra a month. I've had my vogue for 23 months, haven't needed to use the TEP once . . . thinking about going it without insurance at all, but of course, that's when my phone will get stolen month 2
Purchase the Evo through BB but stay with TEP on Sprint (Total Equip Protection) this way your covered in any situation (liquid damage, lost, stolen, damaged beyond repair) and you still get it for $199 with the instant rebate and no mail in rebate that needs 14 weeks to be received ($100 off)

If you're the impatient type, remember that BB and the Shack are the only ones where you can preorder and be sure you get one on release day...without a MIR.
Hmm, Sprint CS says I am eligible for the $199 price, but I called Best Buy and they checked and said I am not eligible until Oct.
Guess I will have to wait until June 4rth and order through Sprint. Wonder why Sprint says I am, but Best Buy shows I am not.
Well bestbuy was the way to go but now they have made some changes like making you wait two weeks for a new phone when yours is broke even when you have insurance all its good for is an extra battery

I don't even know if I'm allowed to post this here...
But my name is Kyle, I'm the store manager of a RadioShack in Bellmead, Texas. You can preorder the EVO from RadioShack for a $50 down payment, we give you a gift card with the $50 on it you can use towards the price of the phone, and the company is throwing in $20 for accessories you can use at the time of purchase. Our inventory is being determined by the preorders we sell, so we are guaranteed to have at least that many phones in stock on June 4th.
I have personally had the opportunity to use this phone as part of inter-company training, and let me tell you: every rumor you've ever heard about this phone being fast as all hell is absolutely true. This thing is a beast. I've already pre-ordered mine, and anyone in the area is welcome to stop in the store. I'm not allowed to show anyone or demo the real deal before launch date, but I do have a dummy model that I'll be happy to show, so you can see how the real phone feels prior to launch.
Any questions, PM me. I'll be happy to share any info I got.

(Won class action lawsuit / settlement against toshiba)
But i will never trust those extra coverage from big chain stores.

I just posted in your other thread about my RS experience today.
The employee at my local store told me that all the Radio Shacks in the Austin area are completely sold out of gift cards due to the EVO pre-orders! He's not positive if there will be any more by the 4th.
EDIT: I guess I could always drive up to Bellmead and order from you. It's only a little over 100 miles from Austin!

We are going to get at least one EVO Shift 4G today and I'm looking for the best price (at a local store, not online). Is $149 + $36 activation pretty standard or are there better deals to be had?
We're in San Antonio, TX if it helps. Thanks!
I believe in store that's about it. The $149 is pretty well set from what I can tell. What sucks is the activation fee, if you order online you don't get it, but if you buy from a store you do. Technically I can't speak of BB and others, all I know is that at the Sprint Store, this is the going rate. I bought my wife's online and only had to pay the 149 (after rebate) then bought mine online and had to pay full price since I was less than a year into my plan, no activation fee for either. If you buy online today you'll more than likely get it at your house on Tuesday, they're pretty quick, but if you want it now then that won't work of course.
Bought mine and my wifes online to get free activation as well and the phones were shipped using overnight shipping free. I ordered them at 11:00pm when they showed up on Sprint's site on a Saturday night which means they shipped Monday and I got them by Tuesday.
Although I have gotten activation waved at a Radio Shack before just by asking.
as far as activation goes, just call Sprint and tell them you think the activation fee is ridiculous and you aren't happy about adding another almost $40 to your cost of the phone.
Mine was credited for my last 3 phones.

Both of those are for new service lines only, I think it was implied that the OP was upgrading.
I know you said YMMV for the price match, but I've never found a Best buy that would price match online prices, but can't hurt to try.

Best Buy in Indianapolis price matched our Heros at the end of 2009. Can't hurt to try. I've heard Radio Shack might as well.
I actually got my shift from Best Buy for 124.99 + $36. I started off printing off an advertised price from wal-mart that had it for $99.99. Took it into Best Buy and asked if they would match, they called the local wal-mart and they were told they didn't carry them in store. So they would not price match them. I told her, if she would sell it to me for 124.99 I would buy it from them, otherwise I was going to radio shack (Which just happens to be next door to my Best Buy) and ask them to honor the price or give me a discount. She went and asked a manager and he approved it.
I use to have a friend who was a car salesman, he always told me, "If there is one in stock there too much supply and to ask for a discounted amount". He would get discounts everywhere, even his apartment rent he negotiated a lower price.
Remember it doesn't cost you a penny to ask for a discount. Don't be rude or mean or seem uptight, lay out the facts. If you do A I will do B, if I'm not asking for a crazy discount 9 times out of 10 I will get it. Now if I could only talk Sprint to lower my bill....
Yes, call and politely ask for the activation fee to be waived or credited. I've only been told NO once, and called back right away and suddenly it was 'YES!'.

Now that's not a very constructive or generous addition to our discussion. I was simply making everyone aware that Sprint does credit for the activation fee.
No crying involved, simply stating that I don't appreciate this charge and each time ask what the cost is supposed to cover, and not one person can give me a decent answer. They just say they will credit the activation fee.
Please only post if you have something that will add to the conversation. Thanks!
Over the phone today, I got it for $229 (before $100 rebate) plus tax. Everything else was waived.
I did have the complaint of a blown lcd to help me out as well, though.
Is Sprint still charging $249.99 and giving you a $100 rebate? Just curious. Got mine at best buy since I didnt' have to go through the rebate hassle.

You can get the activation waved if you call them and say they said they would wave it. I was told being an AOL member that they would wave it when I called customer service. I called and they said there was no such deal but did it for me anyway.
I told Sprint my place of employment, and got 20% off my monthly bill + free activation. Didn't even check my pay stub or identity.
You could check to see if your place of employment has a deal on something like that.
RadioShack.com
RadioShack.com has the Shift for $119.99 upgrade price.
That's the cheapest I've seen. Hope someone benefits!
So I have a Captivate now, and I was wondering where I can get the best price?
I'd be using my girlfriends upgrade and she would get my Captivate, so I'd be upgrading and not a new purchase.
Should I just try to talk Amazon/AT&T into giving me a larger discount or price matching with something such as Costco's 119.00 dollar deal?
I got my atrix from costco yesterday for 119. I love it. So fast and flash plays SUPeR smooth and crystal clear. Att wontacknowledge the costco price unless you get real lucky and are getting a whole new line as opposed to upgrAding (since it gives more commision).
I went to a bunch of atts first and gave up since 149 was the lowest I was able to get them to lower it. At the moment, costco will have the best price and I doubtany store would match them.
The CostCo price looks great, but don't you need a membership at CostCo to buy the phone from it?
I got mine last week at the At&T website for $100+tax, next day delivery. I posted the link in some other thread...
If you arent eligible for upgrade att is the best price 500

I was in an AT&T store trying to get a better price on a dock and the salesman told me that with this being a high profile release and only the first week management has been given instruction not to give away discounts so easily. They have an approved reseller list that they can match price from, otherwise good luck. I know Amazon had the phone for $129 if you were a new contract, otherwise $149 for an upgrade. Unless Costco is on their list and you have proof of the price and the contract terms being an upgrade, I'm doubting your luck with AT&T or Amazon to get lower than $149.

Costco isn't actually the company that sells the phone, it is membership wireless in conjunction with costco. I ordered 2 today through them and do not have a costco membership. Order processed successfully. $127.91 after taxes, etc.
So you ordered them via phone or website?
Look in the local classifieds.
I was able to get an unopened one for $420.
Retail store employee won it in a sales competition and didn't want to part with his iPhone.
For those who are already with AT&T I've had quite a bit of luck calling in to them. Talk to the Customer Relations Dept. (this is the dept. for cancellations). Told'em I was going to leave if they couldn't do better on the price of the phone. They ended up selling it to me for $125, free shipping, free activation, and $180 credit on my cell bill.

When was your contract up?
I talked them down to $299 online, and not eligible for new contract upgrade until 2/12.
I then had another opportunity arise with adding a line to my account. it is strictly a dummy line for business calls, and they switched me to a family plan with combined minutes, etc. They allowed me to use new line phone upgrade on MY number, even though it was only a dummy line being added. I brought in a print-out from amazon for $149, she said they only price match best buy, but gave me $25 off. so basically cheated the system and they were ok with it and walked away with the phone for $175

It was set to end in October of 2011. Typically through AT&T your eligible for an upgrade after 1 year. I have gone the rounds multiple times on multiple phones and have found that calling in to them always produces the best results.
