White bootloader screen.
If you see this it means it didn't find the right ZIP file.
Updating!
Root success.
First time seeing this pop up..
Waits here forEVER.
!!!
Just like new.
No Superuser app?! Did I do something wrong.
No problem! Didn't even ask for permissions.
Boot into Recovery.
Flashed new recovery.
New recovery up close.
Doing a Nandroid backup. A must!
That's what you end up with. Stock ROM, rooted.
Look a few posts down for Froyo update!
Starting Evo Froyo update!!!
Transfer the update ZIP to SDCARD
Wipe data and dalvik cache after reboot into recovery. To do this, boot into the bootloader (vol down+power), choose Recovery, connect usb to computer, run recovery-windows.bat
Choose Update from SDCARD
Ahhh so scary!
Success!
Boots just fine. Setting up...
FROYO HOMESCREEN!
What the, it automatically "Restored" my apps. Is Froyo getting smart?
New Market look. Automatic updating!
This is going to make the Market comments much more useful.
Buttons look different in Gmail.
HOLY [email protected]#K JIT is awesome.
Google Wave is probably the slowest, javascript-heavy site out there. It loads!
I don't remember being able to do this with the past browsers. V8 engine in the new Froyo browser.
Unable to Wireless Tether
I love the pictures
BTW, check and make sure wifi works, then go try the wireless tether for root users, I want to know if it works. http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/

Everything related to a sensor is not working (camera, accelerometer, light sensor for auto brightness). Roaming Indicator is always on.
^ Thanks for answering
sorry for my ignorance. In the rooting part of this thread what do you mean about the superuser app and the no permission needed?
Market Question
I've seen a lot of apps on the market say "doesnt work with froyo!" or "Doesn't work, N1"
Is this an N1 issue or a froyo issue, could someone find out?

Usually when you root your phone or install a custom ROM that incorporates root, you'll see the SuperUser app. That basically gives other apps permission to use root (or denies the root request). But in this case, the other apps can gain root as soon as they ask for it since the SuperUser app is missing.
I noticed that if I don't start using my phone as soon as I power it up, it goes through the "SPRINT -> 4G" startup sequence over and over again! Which is BIG a problem in its self but in addition to this issue, it plays through the external speakers (loud) even if the phone was on silent prior to being powered down, and EVEN if the headphones are plugged in!
Has anyone else had this issue?
PS: Is there a way i can de-sprint my EVO? I dont want any of this startup bs or their streaming nascar bull**** on my effin' phone

Reboot loop? That's not normal, never had that happen to me. And yes the Sprint bootanimation is obnoxious as heck!
If you install a custom ROM (like the Froyo rom), then your phone would lose all the Sprint stuff (bootanimation still remains)

It is worrying me that the screenshot that displays the version number is showing "test keys". Are protected apps not available through the market on rooted EVOs? I don't think that's been a problem on any other rooted device...

I'm on the road with my brothers, I'm Running wireless tether on my N1 and I am able to browse the Internet on this gorgeous big screen. I'm typing this up on it right now! My brother knows nothing about rooting or anything of that nature. So he is pretty amazed that my phone can do this that he now wants to get an Android phone. Possibly an N1 too.

The iPad is a great device. I played with it at the Apple store this weekend.
However, it's not much more than an entertainment device. The lack of multitasking, and a real file system kills it for me. Productivity is possible, but without those two, it suffers greatly.
Add those two, and a camera, and now we're talking.
I'll wait for version 2.0, or the Chrome Tablet. Check out the pics / video:

What have you done since you've gotten root access?
I rooted, and the only thing I have done is remove apps I don't want.
Same here, removed apps for now.
I look forward to a good custom ROM in the future as there are some aspects of the MT4G Sense I would rather not have.

All about the custom roms and kernels. Root was the prerequisite. Now that we have it developers can start working on the real stuff, as in the "life or death" stuff everyone is so excited about. I'll take it you're new to android/rooting? Wait and see, great things to come

Not only removing stock apps. It helps u bring a sense of originality & style to ur device with the full customation ability that Root access provides. In addition to that, making your device run smoother & faster & not being an eager slave to the creators of the smartphone world. In easier terms, not always waiting for the things u anticipate for that ur phone is already suppose to do. I was a sceptic at first, but once u decide to take that turn towards rooting u will be very satisfied.

I'm as bad a spec geek as the next, but I've yet to find any reason to OC over 1ghz on any recent phone I've had.
I would only OC when I was trying to pull the best benchmark and then back to 1ghz for me on my Evo...
Rooting
I wasn't aware that there was a root for this phone so quickly. Where is it located so that I can remove all this crap that I will never ever want to use. Thanks. Also What is mobile defense.
So far the only thing I've really done with root was change the Lock/Unlock sounds. I'm a huge Metal Gear Solid fan so now whenever I lock or unlock the phone I hear the codec open or close sound.
whats the easiest way to remove said bloatware again? titanium?
I've removed bloatware and the rosie.apk. Also, I'm waiting until u can actually underclock my processor.

This information must be shared, Snake!
I'm guessing Root Explorer would do the trick? I've never looked into doing that before. Mind sharing the location and/or the sound?
Anyway, removed bloat, used Setcpu, gave Juice Defender root access. And @flopie, mobile defense is an app that can track your phone if you ever lose it. Shows the gps location on a map at their web page. You can remotely lock it down or wipe the phone and sd card if you have to.
First off: Osama is Dead
2nd: I have such an awesome rom on my phone, bonsai rom
3rd: all this talk about sprints datas tiers and wireless tether scare thread are not needed. As i still have it have a no ciq rom and dont think i donwload over my unlimited 5gbs.
4th: Why is some people ***** whine and complain about updates, seriously its a freaking update people!!!!
5th: this debate about htc vs samsung who is the better hardware/support blah blah blah just pick whatever one looks best and will work out for u
6th: why do we need 10,000 roms when we have a blazing fast phone and stable roms right here.
7th: htc/sprint updates were just as slow when i had htc phones and i really feel that the speed between updates is really not important especially when we have great developers here
Im great, i dont know about you but i still tether, enoy the roms, no cop is going to check my phone and i dont have a criminal record so
EVERYTHING IS DANDY!!!!

MyBackup Root is what I use and it's simple and flawless. I felt Titanium was needlessly complicated. I suppose to each their own.
I use Titanium because it easy to just restore data to one app when I need it. You can also freeze memory hog apps from reloading with the paid version.
Do you BONSAI?
Titanium has schedules so I always have a fresh backup everyday cause it backs up at 3,4,5am while I'm sleeping, all different backups at different times

i certainly am, as a long time android user ( G1 crew!!) i have learnt my lesson too many times when it comes to OS updates. do not ever download and install them straightaway.
case in point- some people are experiecing USB and battery issues with the WW ICS rooted rom floating around.
better idea: wait a week for a dev to to their stuff and then jump in.

For the average user this is a good idea, but for someone looking to develop, the more you know the better, even if learned by troubleshooting problems you caused yourself by being too hasty..
eg how is your USB connection, can you connect via USB?

Same words I use when using any tech product, again have fun on HC.
Yeah, I am holding back too. But it is because I still haven't got an update. When I do get it, won't wait a single minute, there is nothing to loose, right?

My USB was not working but only because I wasn't doing the OTA update. Flashed that first ROM that was released with CWM. All I had to do was flash the new KWT US rom and everything is good to go. I could see your issue with not updating if you couldn't simply do a nandroid backup prior and then do a restore if necessary but I assume most patrons of this forum know how to move around between ROMs with ease. What a strange post in these forums, come to think of it.
I was holding back, but only because I had to go to work. I'm home now so let the hacking begin!
I am holding back because I dual boot and wont give up my Ubuntu boot for ICS when Prime is doing just fine for me.. And I have experienced ICS on my Mom's nexus and I am running it on my Thunderbolt, so the novelty has worn off for me..
However, once there is a nvflashable ICS port I will jump ship..
Holding back. Got the Revolver ROM 3.11.1 customized to my liking. I know I can backup and restore... but I just can't walk away from my config for an unproven and likely buggy first (and probably rushed) ICS release.
Ok, I made the switch- so far not too bad. Some things are zippy, while other things a bit laggy. Maybe a reboot will fix it.

i certainly am, as a long time android user ( G1 crew!!) i have learnt my lesson too many times when it comes to OS updates. do not ever download and install them straightaway.
case in point- some people are experiecing USB and battery issues with the WW ICS rooted rom floating around.
better idea: wait a week for a dev to to their stuff and then jump in.

I am using the WW ICS rooted rom. Pretty much everything is working fine.
No battery issue what so ever.
The USB issue is EASILY fixed. Doesn't make sense to hold back for this reason.
mine works perfectly except thumb keyboard has fc and goes into DEATH LOOP
took me like 15 minutes to uninstall the damn thing
I updated mine and still having the random deep sleep issues where I have to cold boot it I even did a factory reset any suggestions please and thank you

For the average user this is a good idea, but for someone looking to develop, the more you know the better, even if learned by troubleshooting problems you caused yourself by being too hasty..

I wish i had held back. The app i was developing on hc no longer works. No fc`s, just a blank screen. Looks like i`ve some work to do this weekend...
