Hey all of a sudden one of my contacts shows a red circle like an alert or error or something on the messages screen. When i select the thread for only that contact it shows the red circle in the upper left corner right next to their name and number. I have tried deleting the thread and then sending a sms to them but as soon as they reply the red dot is still there. I am not sure what it means because i receive everything that they send.
If you guys have seen this before or have any idea what i did to make it appear any help would be extremely helpful thanks.

My only guess is all my Google contacts who are on gtalk comes online this will show an indication
thanks, you may be on to something now that you mention google talk. this contact is the only one who i have google talk with so could be the reason why i dont have it on the others.
Yes its definitely something to do with contacts have Google Talk
But I have noticed any of my Google contacts selected as busy while they are online will indicate such mark.
In a way its correct if they are busy on chat, why evening thinking to call or message?

So i'm having a problem with texting on the g1.
1) receive a text from someone not on your contact list.
2) add user to contact list
3) reply to text message
4) text message thread name shows as someone else
5) text goes to first person on contact list
6) delete text thread
7) compose new text, (select that new person)
8) text goes to new person
9) text thread shows as the same person from as person in #4
10) person from #8 replies and you receive it just fine.
11) reply to that text, but it goes to first person on your contact list. You don't even have to reply, when you open the text thread, the top left name shows a different name.
I have 2 contacts on my list that is linked all funky.
I have tried deleting the contact from gmail and adding them again, but I still get the issue with them.
oh if you leave the retarded thread sms there (that is displaying the wrong name) and compose a new text to the original person #8. it sends an email to #8 (that #8 cannot reply to) but shows up in your text inbox with "(no subject)" as the message preview
i know you probably sound crazy but i've had that exact same problem but good job on the description

factory reset fixes the issue with that user's contact, but now I have to reinstall everything.
I had a similar issue where I had an email via mms sent to my phone monthly. Like, [email protected]
Once that came in - any sms I received (when I hadn't started the thread) would say it was from that email. When I tried to reply it would go to the first person in my contact list (Aaron for example) rather than the [email protected] or the original sending party.
Only way to fix it (and this is TMo's advice too since it's now a known issue) is to not get the email anymore and do a factory reset. (Haven't had the problem since then, but will be nice when it is fixed.)

Hoping someone can help me out. Since I got my HD2 a few days ago, everything works fine, especially after installing lots of cabs from XDA, but since the thing has been switched on I've been getting weird text messages at random times. They'll have no content other than the "from" field will contain a small triangle and an @ sign, or sometimes it'll be an underscore like so: "[email protected]". In addition, on the RHS side in the conversation mode view for SMS, these messages will have a little picture of a SIM card above the time received. Anyone any ideas?

This is a voicemail message notification. You'll get another one when you clear VMs - it has a triangle I think.

Another one of many bugs mate, you dont get an icon on the task bar just that gobbledygook SMS

Well, it depends on your operator. On mine it works fine and I get the little cassette tape icon for a voice mail, but my Tilt used to give me the text messages. Funnily enough, reading some of the taskbar threads some people were getting the right icon but had never seen it before!

LOL same problem here. Texts with just "∆@" and "[email protected]" as the title with no body are received instead of a proper missed call notification from Orange.
Any fix available to stop this occuring? Is this anything to do with the first SMS hotfix?

You can change your voicemail notification by calling your voicemail and going through the options on there. Most providers allow you to change it, but one or two only allow notification or no notification. I didn't believe this at first, but I set mine to just show a notification icon and it worked.
Sorry if this has been addressed in another thread but I could not find it.
I am receiving a notification that I have received a text message, and a green ! next to the person who sent it. But when I go to read the message it is not showing up anywhere. I called and asked the person who sent the message if he sent one and he did. This happened multiple times in a row. Is this a common issue and is there a fix? Thanks

i've had this same problem on tmo us and it usually happens about midnight i even called tmo and asked them and all they could say was try a hard reset.but after all that whenver the msg comes in ive found that the msgs are usually towards the top of your convo list then later theyll start showing up at the bottom if the list
When I first got my Tab I'm sure the email icon would display a small red round circle with the number of unread emails in it. For some reason this seems to have stopped working. I think the dissappearance coincided with me reseting the device.
I'm beginning to think I imagined it. Does anyone have this feature and I'd be grateful to hear how I get it back. I'm on 2.2.

AFAIK it's a setting in the preferences of your launcher...
it just shows first account. every other account is ignored.

If I'm not mistaken, if you click/touch those it will delete that whole message history.
No, tried now , clicking this x sign just open the messages thread
And pushing it just open the same 3 menu options to delete or view contact or add to spam, which shows when u push on other message without this x sign

I believe it is related to the Gmail status - check if the contact contains a gmail account.
I get green orbs and yellow orbs there usually, but idk about your theme applied it could have changed it.
The screenshot is a custom ROM. That is not Stock.
I know that one of these names has gmail account but don't know about the other one, but still this never seen before, so why now?!

I thought it was related to your contacts Google account and if they are available for Google chat or similar. Test it out with one of the contacts
it COULD be related to one or more of your messages in that thread not being sent. I've seen something similar to that if I try to send a message when i don't have service, usually i've had to open that message thread and manually resend the failed message.
The strnage thing is: I did a soft reboot and the x sign disappeared!!!
soft boots prompt the phone to reconnect to the network, in which case the messages that weren't sent before might have finally gotten sent now. So your friends might have gotten some late texts from you
