Not showing SMS texts - HD2 General

Sorry if this has been addressed in another thread but I could not find it.
I am receiving a notification that I have received a text message, and a green ! next to the person who sent it. But when I go to read the message it is not showing up anywhere. I called and asked the person who sent the message if he sent one and he did. This happened multiple times in a row. Is this a common issue and is there a fix? Thanks

SMS prob
i've had this same problem on tmo us and it usually happens about midnight i even called tmo and asked them and all they could say was try a hard reset.but after all that whenver the msg comes in ive found that the msgs are usually towards the top of your convo list then later theyll start showing up at the bottom if the list

Sent SMSs and call history don't get saved anymore

Hi all,
since a few days ago, the text messages I send and the calls I make/miss don't get saved in the Sent messages folder and the Call History menu. I have no idea why this is, as I am not aware of doing anything that could have caused this. I am running the 1933.18533 Thingonaspring ROM v 3.2 if it matters. I in fact have a large number of messages saved (about 2.6k received and 1k sent ones), but I have plenty of free memory both in the device and on the card. And yes, I do have the "Keep copies of sent items in the Sent folder" option checked If anyone has an idea how to solve the problem, please let me know. Thanks a lot!

Solved
Alright, I solved the problem myself in the end.
For some reason, from 17th to 24th January, the phone saved sent messages and call logs as if it was February. So now everytime I opened the Sent items folder and thought the message I just sent didn't get saved, it actually did, but I didn't see it, as I have the most recent messages displayed first and the phone naturally thought that the message from 24.2.2008, for example, is newer than the just-sent one from, lets say, 26.1.2008. So I kept seeing the same messages again and again while the ones I actually sent got saved behind them
I have no idea how the date change happened though, and the weird thing is, that it didn't affect the incoming messages..just the outgoing ones and call logs.
Anyway, now I'm happy everything is working again And sorry for spamming the forum

Hero and SMS

I've had two episodes where I sent a SMS to my dad, and the SMS shows up in the list of messages sendt to my sister -> My sister got the SMS.
Another example: I sent a SMS to my friend, and it shows up in the list of messages to my uncle. My friend answered the message.
Anyone else experienced something similar?
Is there a fix?
Can't say that I've ever had that happened unless I mistakeningly sent it to the wrong person. Human error rather than device error.
I'm sure you uncle must have enjoyed the message.
Have you thought that maybe your numbers are messed up?? Or maybe all your contacts are switching with each other to mess you up.
Yep, chedked the numbers. This is definately a device error.
I had this self same problem yesterday! I thought it was me.
I sent an SMS to a friend called 'Ross', it showed up as Ross in the 'To' field but when I went into my sent messages it had gone to a friend called Robert. This occurred twice - but hasn't with subsequent messages.
Weirdest thing isn't it?
Now, how do we go about fixing this?

You need to email HTC support like with any issues / bugs you find or they will never know about them. Then hope they bring out a software fix. If we don't tell them, they will think its only a handful of people and not bother to do anything.
Also make sure your contacts' numbers are correct.
I have had the same problem, but the message hasn't actually been sent to the wrong person. It seems that it gets confused about who the person is. In my example the person I texted began with Dan and the second Theresa, so not next to each other in contacts. Theresa didn't say she had received something from me.
Same problem here
I did report this to HTC along with not getting sms and getting multiple of the same sms. All they suggested I do is a hard reset (already done) which did not change anything. Not very happy with them they didn't day it was a software fault or a fix was coming
They gave me the same response (although I only reported not getting all messages). If the hard reset didn't work they said to get the phone replaced. Its definitely a software fault so I am not replacing it, seeing as others have had issues with dead pixels etc...
It's only a display problem, you just close messages then reopen it, or go to the messages tab of the contact you sent the text to then click on the message and it'll correct the names.
I've had a similar issue once! Strange experience: I actually thought I had sent all kinds of SMS-es to the wrong person ;-)
In my case the names changed back automatically after about 30 bewildering seconds. Never had an issue since.
I have uninstalled Handcent SMS that caused several conflicts on my Hero, inclusing SMS-es not arriving at all. I might have had the 'wrong name' issue when I had Hancent installed. Don't really remember.

SMS timing issue

Hello,
I seem to be having an issue with the time stamps on my text messages. The ones that I send are okay, however the ones that I receive all have different times on them. For example:
If I send a text at 8:15PM and receive a reply right away, it'll show my text sent at 8:15PM, but the reply will have a back dated time... Maybe 5PM, 4PM... something like that.
Any ideas why?
Thanks!
I find this but its by no means universal. some messages I recive are an hour ahead others are not. I recived two messages at almost the same time & one of them had the wrong time. I can't wait for the new update to fix all of these little issues
I've seen this problem since my G1. It's still suffering from it, as is my Magic and my Hero.
I'm still having the same issue.
My received text messages show a time of 4 hours behind.
So if I send a text at 6:30 and receive a reply at 6:32, it shows 2:32 as the received time.
Does anyone know if there's a fix for this? I have updated to the latest (leaked) firmware, but still no luck.
Thanks!
Are you all on the same network? Might not be the phone because i've never noticed this

Was just going to ask this... What network are you on, have you set network location to automatic by carrier, if so, set it manually to the city / country you are in.
I'm on O2 and have been using the network provided values.
I've set it to manual and text someone at 12:44. The reply came in a little while after and was stamped 12:45 so no issue there it seems. Strange.
I'm now getting issues now with texts in fairly quick succession.
The time stamps can be the same i.e. 21:17 but a reply from someone will sometimes appear before my original text in thread view.
Also a reply came in to one of my texts with a time stamp before my original text. This was displayed "correctly" as before my text, but the fact its timestamped in this way can't be right.
Anyone else seen this?
It's like the phone is looking at minutes for accuracy, not seconds. Also taking the timestamp of when a text was sent from the other person's phone as the time received to my phone. Hm :/
I get this on Orange when I receive a message from the US. All my outgoing messages are listed at the bottom of the conversation, while the one received from the US are at the top.
UK based conversations are all threaded correctly.
Ok thanks.
It never used to be like this so I'm wondering after prolonged use the sms database gets a bit corrupted somehow?
For me it seems to behave like this: for outgoing (sent) messages I see the time that is set on Hero. For incoming messages, however, Hero shows the time on the network provider.
I assume there is some header in SMS message containing the time, and Hero uses that instead of using the time Hero has when the message arrives.
I started using the Network Provider time (automatic) to get rid of this.

New Text message glitch

im afraid to ask any iphone friends if they have the same problem(s) as i do its hard enough to convince them the nexus isnt an iphone "wannabe". So I dont know if this is sort of a common issue regardless of OS, although i dont think this happened on my g1 or mytouch.
I receive a text message from "Bob", I open it and the thread has "Jenny" as the name in the actual conversation. In other words, one contact's name is at the top, and is the contact in the screen with all of the threads, but when i select it the text is actually from a different contact, and that name is the one that is followed by a colon and then the actual message. I dont recall this on my g1 or mytouch but its super annoying.
Also, i believe it only has happened (about 6 times total starting about a week ago) when im in the middle of a conversation with, say, person "A", and at some point they send a reply and its received as a new thread from person "B", but person A is still the name in the actual conversation. Theres a ton of bugs in 2.1, but i love the phone and Android and only wish for it to improve, which i understand takes time. This is just particularly frustrating because it started only recently. And yes i clear out the threads regularly but other than restarting the phone thats all ive tried. I dont doubt there may be an easy solution but i cant finger it out. Anybody? thanks
I saw this last night for the first time in the two weeks I have had the phone. I just hit the back button and then returned to the conversation and it was fixed, but I was confused. haha.
Speaking of weird glitches, I once got 5 aces in windows XP solitaire.... I have a screenshot somewhere....
good lord. i just got a text from one of my buddies that said "goodnight sweetheart want to tuck me in?"
then i looked above that one message and the rest of the messages in the conversation had come from my wife who's out of town, and it was in her thread. The phone just decided to make one of the messages from one of my guy friends.
I pressed back like you said and it was fixed but this is NOT cool...

HAHAHA. That's hilarious. What happens if you reply before it gets straightened out? I've only seen this once, so I haven't been able to test it...

This is actually another bug, that message was meant for your friend.
Sorry to break the bad news to you.

Oh no, it happened to me with my girlfriend, and a buddy of mine
Nexus One: Cheaters beware.
I'm going to guess you all have SMS popup installed and delivering notifications?
I was having this issue until I uninstalled sms popup and switched to handcent.

Not sure about sms popup being installed (if it's from the market, then no I do not have it), but I have delivery notifications turned on and I am using the stock messaging application.
I can confirm this happening to me as well and on multiple occasions. From what I can tell I would be texting with "Mike" and I would back out to do something else. Then I would recieve a text from "John" and it would show up with his text but with Mike's picture and name as well as name in the thread. It was very confusing before I had realized what really happened.
Ive has this a couple of times, the message does get sent to the right recipient though i can confirm.
Just hit back, open the thread again and itll be fine. Sometimes happens when you get a message from someone when your composing a message.

I experienced this problem today on my n1... and I experienced it before on my HTC Magic running official sense UI... I reported the problem to HTC at the time and they couldn't replicate the bug in their labs..
same issue here as well
I'll pile on and confirm this bug, but it seems to be limited to the stock messaging app. I haven't seen the problem replicated since I switched to Handcent last week.
I think it was actually just a little different for me though. Mine bugged out when I would go to the "quick messaging" option in the contact list (the thing where you tap on the contact's icon and the little list of ways to get in touch with them pops up) and hit the text icon. Once I hit that icon the text app opens with the contact I intend to text at the top, but the thread contents are that of a different person's thread - usually the last person I was texting.
Weird, but I guess a non issue since I like Handcent a lot better anyway.

Deleting Delivery Report Issue

I recently upgraded to 1.66 ROM and since then I have kept the delivery notifications on to see if the previous SMS issue has been resolved, (which it appears to have been)
However, I now have a new problem. If I delete a delivery report from the HTC sense message tab, rather than opening the conversation and then deleting the text, I find that the device still thinks I have a message from the person I sent the text too.
i.e. it still says 1 in a green box next to the name of the person whose delivery report i deleted.
Anyone else getting this problem.
Obivious solution is to turn of delivery notifications, however, while it is not a problem on my end one of my friends has a problem receiving messages so I find it useful to have on now.
